A yet-to-be-identified person has died in the Ojota area of Lago State.

A source told ODUDUWA NEWS that two groups, suspected to be Oduduwa Peoples Congress (OPC) and Yoruba Nation agitators, clashed in the early hours of Monday, resulting in one casualty.

The source said police arrived the scene and shot teargas to disperse the crowd.

“Ojota is up in smoke,” a source told ODUDUWA NEWS . “Police are shooting teargas, and one person is dead. There was a clash between OPC and Yoruba Nation.”

When ODUDUWA NEWS called Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, he said he did not have specific details but was aware of the clash and the police were on ground.

The Management of The Polytechnic, Ibadan has suspended the Students’ Union Executives of the institution and postponed the first semester examination intended to commence today, Monday 9th January 2023 as a result of an unwarranted and politically motivated protest embarked upon by the students.

A statement from the Institution signed by the Registrar, Mrs Modupe Theresa Fawale disclosed that the examination has been postponed until further notice while the Students’ Union is suspended indefinitely.

Describing the protest as ill motivated and politically inclined, the Management noted that the students’Union body has no formal complaint before the Management concerning the examination slated to commence today and therefore, their protest to the State Secretariat is questionable.

The Management further noted that the students’ Union breached the rule of decency by locking all the gates that lead to the Institution and thereby causing unwarranted hardship to their Colleagues, to the Staff of the Institution, to their host communities, to the neighbouring university of Ibadan, and to the general public at large, most especially those that have official transactions with The Polytechnic Ibadan.

It is on record that The Polytechnic , Ibadan students pay one of the lowest tution fees among their contemporaries in the south west. Payment of tuition has been made flexible and convenient as students pay sixty percent of the tution fee during the first semester and pay the remaining 40 percent during second semester. The Institution has not increased tution in the last couple of years.

Protesting on a day that they should be sober and commence their examination which is a major academic activities leading to the award of their diploma is ill advised, politically motivated and therefore of no reasonable value to the students and indeed to the development of education.

The Management is reviewing the situation and will issue a statement on when the suspended examination will commenced. We appeal to the students to return to class and prepare for their examination. We also appeal to the parents and guardians to call their wards to order.

All roads within around the Oyo state Secretariat is block. Students of the polytechnic Ibadan are protecting the increase in amount payable for hostel fee.

A student, who craved annonynunity as he was not authorized to speak, said the “we normally pay #30000 for accommodation every season but for those who don’t want to stay in hostel they paid #5000 refusal fee, but the management just woke up and said that it has increased the refusal fee from #5000 to #15000.

The students also said they are tired with the use of consultant in running affairs of an institution.
In their large numbers, they chanted ANTI-GOVERNMENT SONGS, saying that the activities of the consultant has slowed the growth of the school.

I’m Ahmed Shuaib Adeniyi Ejalonibu, a native of Saki, the headquarters of Saki West LG.
I’m a graduate of Political Science from Obafemi Awolowo University and a retiree from Oyo State Local Government Service Commission. I served meritoriously for 35 years before I retired early last year (2022).

Q: Why are you contesting for senatorial seat?

I’m from Oyo North Senatorial District, also it’s my civic right, and I believe that I’m qualified to contest.

Q: What are the expectations of the people of Oke-Ogun and Oyo North at large from you?

Before now, Oyo North is underdeveloped in terms of infrastructural development, be it education, health and other infrastructures that are supposed to be done by Federal Government. Our roads are in a very bad state, we are fortunate to have NTA station in Saki at the same time with Oyo & Ogbomoso, it’s saddened that since then Oyo & Ogbomoso own are perfectly working while Saki own is nothing to write home about, aside that, there are other institutions and parastatals that should be available in Oke-Ogun because of the distance of Saki to Ibadan & Ilorin.

Principally, I want to talk about the passport office, I’m privy to the fact that the Federal Government has given Oyo State another Passport office, according to Information, it has been located in Ogbomoso, the question is what is the distance between Ogbomoso and Ilorin and what is the distance between Ogbomoso and Ibadan and probably the distance between Saki, Igboho, Sepeteri, Ago Amodu to Ibadan and Ilorin that made up the logic that the passport office should be located in Ogbomoso. These are the basic questions begging for answers and that motivated me into contesting for the Senate seat.

My Constituencies, Oke-Ogun in particular is far behind in the comity of developed communities in Nigeria. By virtue of my position as a retired Director in the Local Government, I had the opportunity to travel far and wide in Nigeria and within West Africa. It will surprise you that some countries are not endowed and famous as Oke-Ogun but they have basic amenities. Oke-Ogun suffers quality and efficient power supply and I mean electricity that would be useful for the people, for example in some part of Oke-Ogun, whenever they bring light, hardly can you use it to charge your phone, it’s bad as that and if I am elected, these are the things I will work on to emancipate my people.

Q: Can you tell us why you should be elected for the seat?

Oyo North can be divided into there, Ogbomoso with 3 Local Government, Oke-Ogun 1 with 4 Local Government and Oke-Ogun 2 with 6 Local Government Areas. Ogbomoso with 3 LGs namely Ogbomoso South, North & Orire LG has produced Senator for 3 terms, Oke-Ogun 1 consisting of Iseyin, Kajola, Iwajowa & Itesiwaju has produced Senator for two terms while Oke-Ogun 1 consisting of Atisbo, Saki West, East, Oorelope, Irepo & Olorunsogo has produced less than one term Senator, by this I mean Late Chief R.B. Koleosho from Saki who always say it that it was Ogbomoso people that voted for him, that was why I said less than one term Senator because his tenure was half Ogbomoso half Saki. So, with all this, I think it’s Oke-Ogun turn to represent the people of Oyo North because they have been seriously marginalized and this does not mean representation alone but on Infrastructural facilities and development.

Q: What have you been doing for the people before seeking elective post?

Like I said, I am a retired public officer, there’s little that could be done because I wasn’t an elected executive officer. It’s only an elected executive officers that have that opportunity to have the resources to do projects, but in my own case, I can only influence, and to God be the glory, I have been able to facilitate the grading of my local roads, I mean the area I live, that’s Rishard Community 2, and on yearly basis, I make sure that I use my influence to bring grader to my area. Though, I only fuel grader for the road leading to my area and when other streets are contributing for theirs, I do support them even beyond the amount each individual asked to pay.

Secondly, I was able to influence the construction of a large bridge constructed by Ogun-Osun River Basin, the executive officer there, Professor Hamidalat Bola Olaniyan was one of my school mates who we graduated together from Ansa-rudeen High School in 1981. With the support of my people, we were able to reach out to her and they constructed it. She used her influence for us, the bridge is there for anybody to see.

Again, to God be the glory, I have a borehole in my house and I ensured that I made extension outside for people to tap from it and get water whenever they want it. Be that as it may, I’m the Chairman of the Security Committee of Richard Community 2, and with my position as Chairman of the committee, we have been able to organize vigilante, that’s for the protection of lives and properties in my area. Before then, there had been cases of burglaries and other vices, like seeing some young guys smoking Indian hemps and other hard drugs on a broad daylight and ever since we have that security Committee, we have been able to subdue those social vices.

Late Agbo Godwin, Dispatch Rider with Jumia Online Shopping, was riding his motorcycle, when he was knocked down by a man following an argument on Friday, 6th of December, 2023.

Following the incident, the victim was rushed down to two neighboring hospitals but rejected. The driver was taken to Oluyole Police station, and later transferred back to Iyagunku Police Station.

Police officers from the Iyaganku Police station visited the scene at Mobil axis of Ibadan, took the corpse to Oke-Ado Hospital.

On Saturday, residents and traders around the scene confirmed that the incident left the community shocked and devastated because the rider left the main road, and the driver followed him to where he was eventually knocked down.

Forte Oil attendant, Ambrose, noted that “the driver was driving at a very high speed, and Godwin’s bike was in the front. When he drove away after hitting, and passed through the one way as a bid to escape. Luckily, a trailer was making a U-turn and this how he was caught by the two riders that ran after him.  

Another eyewitness, Sunday ,who is a shoe trader, confirmed that the driver was rescued from an angry mob. According to him, “The victim was still alive at the point he was crushed. I begged the people to help take him to the hospital, and we did but he was rejected. I was the one that sat with the driver on the same bike. When we got back to the scene from the hospital, he attempted to run away.

“This was when we took him to the station at Oluyole. We were given two police officers to follow us down to Iyagunku. It was the police that came for the corpse”.

According to the wife of the deceased, Taye Agbo, “We were eating together in my shop, and he received a call, which seems to be an order. He told me that he would be back, and by the time I called him to take us home with our three children. I was told that he had an accident. I rushed down to the place, in order to take him to the hospital, and I saw his dead body on the ground.

“The people held me back, H heard many stories. I was told that he left the Express road, and the driver followed him at a very high speed. People saw his actions, and we begged the world to know his intentions. He was killed at the entrance of Forte Filling Station at Ring road, Ibadan. They prevented me from moving close to him. This was when I called his sister, Esther Agbo to come down to the place.

The deceased’s Mother also noted, “I sent my Grandchild on an errand, and the child came back to tell me that people are saying Goddy is dead. I was not comfortable, and I told people to help me call him, and I was told he is not reachable. I was worried because his wife’s number was not reachable, so I started seeing people. I knew something must be truly wrong. I was told that he was hit by a car.

“If I don’t see him in the morning, I won’t have my rest. I lost my husband in 2019 with a son the following year. This is the third person I am losing in the family. I am pleading to the entire Nigerians to come to my rescue. This is a burden, I don’t have strength to bear.

From the office of Oyo Police Public Relation Officer, SP. Adewale Osifeso, said, “The matter is under investigation. Updates would be provided to the general public, accordingly.”

The only suspect apprehended in connection with the m¥rder of CBN staff, Kehinde Fatinoye has escaped from police custody in Ogun State.

It is reported that on Saturday the Ogun State police command had cracked down on the gang that perpetrated the gr¥esome m¥rder of a couple, Kehinde and Bukola Fatinoye and their son, Oreoluwa.

It is reported that one of the two prime suspects arrested in connection with the m¥rder of the ex-staff of the Central Bank of Nigeria, his wife and their son on New Year’s Day had escaped from police custody.

According to reports, one Felix who lived with the Fatinoye family had raised the alarm that he recognised the driver of the couple, identified as Lekan allegedly participating in the m¥rder of the family. Felix had reportedly raised his voice when he was taken to the river side where Oreoluwa was drowned, indicting Lekan who was the late wife’s driver of being involved in the dastardly act.

Lekan was subsequently arrested and taken into the custody for questioning. An eye-witness reported that the two suspects were actually in police custody until Friday when one of them, Lekan, escaped and bolted away.

The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) has announced notice of planned power outage between 8am-5pm daily, starting from 9th January till 3rd February, 2023, in some parts of Ibadan metropolis, Oyo State capital.

In a statement signed by the management read, “Dear esteemed customer, kindly note that due to a planned routine maintenance on the Ayede – Eleyele 132kV line by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).
