NYSC Threatened By Insecurity, Says Olubadan

The 42nd Olubadan of Ibadanland,Imperial Majesty Oba Dr. Sen. Mohood Olalekan Ishola Balogun, has promised to play a fatherly role to corps members deployed to the state and the NYSC Scheme.

The Monarch gave the assurance during the courtesy visit to the palace by the NYSC Oyo State Coordinator, Mrs Grace Ogbuogebe. He stated that having ascended the throne of his fathers that he will ensure that he builds on the legacies of his predecessors, thereby creating an enabling environment for corps members diligently serving their fatherland outside their states of origin.

e lamented the insecurity in Nigeria as being major impediment to the success of youth service in Nigeria.

The one- time Research fellow at Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, appreciated the intent of National Youth Serivce Corps which is to unify the nation since the end of the civil war, thus upholding the ideals of the founding fathers of the Scheme. He lauded the services rendered by the Scheme through the corps members who ensure that they impact on their host communities.

Earlier in her brief, the NYSC Oyo State Coordinator Mrs Grace Ogbuogebe congratulated his Imperial Majesty for ascending the throne of his fathers, saying it is a well-deserved honour. Ogbuogebe in her remark intimated the traditional ruler of the various projects carried out by corps members to ensure the socio-economic development of the state.She requested that the Monarch should lend a support to the Scheme to make NYSC Oyo a Pacesetter to all other NYSC formations.

She further attested to the success story of the Scheme since inception that the mandate of the founding fathers to unite this nation is being carried out with the activities of the scheme.She however called upon the society to be the advocate of NYSC for greater achievements.

Panic As Suspected Cultists Kill Popular Area Boy, Tommy In Abeokuta

There was palpable tension among residents of Oluwo area of Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, following the killing of a popular area boy known around the area as ‘Tommy’.

Tommy was reportedly hacked to death late Thursday night at Panseke area of the state capital by suspected cultists.

It was learnt that, the assailants had slashed Tommy in the head and other parts of the body, leaving him dead.

There are reports that he might have been killed by members of the Aiye Confraternity, as many believed he belonged to the rival Eiye cult group.

On Friday morning, there was tension in Oluwo over fear of possible reprisal attacks. Our correspondent confirmed that shops and residential buildings were under lock and key.

The students populated environment was deserted with many planning to travelnewtelegraphng.comMar to their various homes.

At the time our correspondent visited Oluwo, people were seen running helter skelter as some stern-looking men moved about on motorcycles. “There is going to be serious fight in Oluwo Abeokuta. That man killed is not going to die like that. He is a very popular man in Abeokuta. Please take cover and stay safe,” a source has said.

The Ogun State Police command has confirmed the incident, saying it was a cult clash.

Cocoa dealer escapes from kidnappers den after abductors slept off in Ondo

A popular cocoa dealer in Supare Akoko, Akoko South West Local Government Area of Ondo State, Idowu Shaba, miraculously escaped from his kidnappers’ hideout when they fell asleep.

The 55-year-old cocoa merchant and others in his car were on their way to Idoani in Ose Local Government Area of the state for a church programme when they were ambushed by gunmen between Afo and Idoani.

The kidnappers took Shaba and a female passenger in the car into the forest.

According to a source, the kidnappers had demanded a ransom of N10 million before the victims fled their den.

The source added that Shaba had feigned to be deep asleep and snoring heavily in the night alongside the female victim.

While craving anonymity, the source said, “That must have made his abductors, who believed that their victims were deep asleep to also take their time to sleep comfortably.

“Shaba seized the opportunity to carry their weapons. He took his abductors’ AK-47 rifle, cutlasses and other dangerous weapons in their possession and also rescued the other lady.”

The source added that the rifles had police inscriptions.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in the State, SP Funmilayo Odunlami, said investigation had commenced towards nabbing the kidnappers.

OAU Student’s Death: Adedoyin, six others finally arraigned in Abuja court

ODUDUWA NEWS has gathered that the owner of Hilton Royal Hotel, Dr Ramon Adedoyin, and six others have been finally arraigned in Abuja High Court over the circumstances surrounding the death of Timothy Adegoke, the MBA student of the Obafemi Awolowo University, who reportedly died at the hotel on November 6, 2021.

Adedoyin, according to a statement on Tuesday, is being charged with the offence of unlawful interference with a dead body, while the other six accused persons are charged with various offences ranging from murder, conspiracy, altering receipt, along with other stated offences.

According to the case summary and proof of evidence filed by the Police, Adedoyin is being charged for illegally disposing of Adegoke’s body, altering and cancelling his payment receipt and the removal of the hotel’s CCTV cameras with intent to destroy evidence.

Others charged with the educationist are, Adedeji Adesola, 23, Magdalene Chiefuna, 24, Adeniyi Aderogba, 37, Oluwale Lawrence, 37, Oyetunde Kazeem, 38, Adebayo Kunle, 35 and others still at large.

One of Adedoyin’s lawyers, Abiodun Williams, said the legal team expected the development as it was an indication that the Police had concluded their investigations which also signified the beginning of the legal battle to prove and establish the innocence of the accused persons.

He said, “At least the charges have now cleared Adedoyin of the grievous allegations of murder and ritual killing peddled against him; thus setting the stage for him and all the suspects to prove their innocence before the court.

“We will like to restate, most emphatically, that Adedoyin ought not to have been dragged into this case in the first place. We will, therefore, leave the rest to the court to decide according to the proof of evidence placed before it.

“Hopefully, the media, especially the online blogs and those sponsoring lies and rumours, will stop their unfounded allegations and allow the court to dispense justice to all those involved according to the facts and evidence adduced.”

One Feared Dead, Others Injured As Youths Clash In Idumota, Lagos

ODUDUWA NEWS gathered that there was heavy gunshots and serious fight in Lagos Island yesterday evening resulting to the loss of one live leaving many others injured.

It was learnt that some hoodlums called Area boys engaged themselves in free for all where they were seen brandishing several harmful weapons.

The fiercely looking youths were also seeing throwing broken glasses and stones while commuters were scampering for sfatety.

It took several hours of fighting before Police were mobilized to the scene to ensure security of lives and properties.

An eyewitness who spoke to ODUDUWA NEWS under the condition of anonymity said, the fight had been like that for years where Idumota boys would group themselves to take on a fight with Kosoko/Oluwole/Martins/Balogun boys.

She however called on government to find a lasting solution to the menace as they could no longer engage in their business activities peacefully.
