Makinde, other G5 Govs paperweights, incapable of influencing APC victory, Nabena tells Tinubu

A chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC, Yekini Nabena, has described the five aggrieved governors of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP as confused, handicapped and lacking in capacity to sway election victory for any candidate in next month’s presidential election.

Nabena cautioned political leaders, especially in the APC who are still romancing with the five governors to have a rethink. The governors include Samuel Ortom of Benue state, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu state, Seyi Makinde of Oyo state, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia state, and Nyesom Wike of Rivers state as their leader.

The “G-5 governors” emerged after Wike lost out to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar at the PDP presidential primary election, and after the former was also bypassed for consideration of the vice presidential slot of the party which was offered to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state.

The group is, however, demanding the removal of the PDP’s National Chairman, Iyiorcha Ayu as a condition to support the Atiku, even though it is yet to announce its preferred presidential candidate. Speaking at a brief interactive session Friday in Abuja, the former APC spokesman said except for Governor Wike, the other four governors have not lived up to the expectations to deliver reasonable votes for any presidential candidate.

According to Nabena, unless INEC delivers election materials to the state government house directly and allows them to manipulate the process, the forthcoming general election is beyond the reach of some poorly-performed serving governors like Ortom, Ikpeazu, Ugwuanyi and Makinde, except Wike.

Meanwhile, as at the time of reporting, Oyo State Government has not released a statement on it.

Atiku, Okowa, Others Storm Ibadan As Makinde Shuns PDP Presidential Campaign

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State was no where to be found at the recently held presidential campaign of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Atiku Abubakar, in Ibadan

Atiku was in the state to campaign for Oyo electorates’ support as parts of effort to actualise his quest to become the next Nigeria’s president.

Seyi Makinde was among the five, aggrieved governors of the PDP, who vowed not to support the party’s presidential candidate unless the national chairman of the party, Senator Iyiochia Ayu resigns the position.

The five governors led by Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike are Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), Samuel Ortom (Benue).

Governor Makinde was not present at the campaign rally held at the state capital.

It was also reported that the National Assembly candidates of the party in the state were all around at the event.

Desist From Campaign Of Calumny Against Tinubu, Oyo APC Warns Jumoke Akinjide

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo state has expressed its dismay over alleged calculated attempts by a chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, Oloye Jumoke Akinjide-Pategi, to discredit and run down the APC presidential candidate in the next month election, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, with a view to winning the electorate over for her choice candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

Oloye Jumoke Akinjide-Pategi, a former minister of state for the Federal Capital Territory, had appeared on some local radio stations in the last one week to mobilize support for Atiku Abubakar and in the course of her submission and assertion, she reportedly made Senator Bola Tinubu an object of verbal attacks and blackmail.

In a statement issued on Thursday and made available to journalists in Ibadan by its Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, Oyo APC condemned the the former minister who it accused of promoting campaign of calumny against an established political figure whose time has come to rule the country and move it forward as desired by patriots and we’ll meaning citizens of the country.

“We have been inundated with unpleasant feedbacks from members of the public who had listened to all the sponsored interviews granted by Mrs. Akinjide-Pategi in the last few days wherein she made futile attempts to tell barefaced lies against the person of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu who is the presidential candidate of our great Party in the next month election. This is nothing but unacceptable malfeasance coming from a fry with a shameful political background.

“It is a height of insensitivity for somebody who has neither won any election in her life nor has someone in her family with any electoral victory now trying to pull down an accomplished personality who has never lost any election anywhere. It would have been better for her (Akinjide-Pategi) to find a better ploy with which she could earn patronage from Atiku than seeking attention using Tinubu’s name because no amount of smear campaigns and character assassination from unscrupulous elements would make voters turn against Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

“With this development, it is easy for Nigeria to conclude that history is repeating itself because the unfortunate role played by the father of the person, in question, in 1979 and 1983 when Chief Obafemi Awolowo was denied the chance to emerge as the nation’s President has a big space in the book of history. Also, another eminent Yoruba son (Chief M.K.O Abiola) had his popular mandate annulled in 1993 and the whole world knows the culpability of the same family the one waging war against Sen. Bola Tinubu now.

“If money and political patronage is what matters to Ms Akinjide, we urge her to remember the fate which befell her and others in 2015 when they travelled similar route with former President Good luck Jonathan and got humiliated at the poll. It is on record that a huge sum of money regarded as campaign funds which she collected from Abuja was mismanaged and this caused her to be arrested and prosecuted by the EFCC and we have not seen the end of that case up till even after she had pleased for plea bargain in apparent admission of corruption and stealing of public funds.

“If what most citizens across the country demonstrate as show of support and endorsement for the Tinubu/Shettima 2023 Project on account of competence, track record and promise does not appeal to the likes of Mrs Akinjide-Pategi, we would encourage them to thread softly and stop fighting dirty in the political space over a lost cause. Nigerians want Tinubu as their next president and there is nothing which the enemies of the country can do about it this time.” Oyo APC stated.

Meanwhile, Oyo APC has applauded former deputy governor of the state, Engr. Rauf Olaniyan, for “his recent heroic activities aimed at achieving all round victory for the APC at this year general election. It is worthy of note that His Excellency, Engr. Rauf Olaniyan, is doing a wonderful job at the moment to mobilize support for Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Sen. Teslim Folarin as well as all other candidates of of the APC and we shall not take this for granted.” The statement concluded.

Lai Mohammed Snubs Tinubu’s Kwara Rally As APC Candidate Tells Supporters ‘Vote For Freedom’

Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, on Tuesday snubbed the presidential campaign rally of his long term political associate, Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Mohammed was Tinubu’s Director General of campaign in 1999 leading him to victory in the governorship election of that year.

He emerged as Chief of Staff to Tinubu before becoming the spokesman of the Action Congress of Nigeria, which emerged from Alliance for Democracy.

Mohammed and Tinubu formed a strong political association that led to his emergence as the spokesman of the newly formed APC due to Tinubu’s recommendation.

Tinubu was also alleged to have recommended Mohammed for appointment as Minister in the President Muhammadu Buhari administration.

However, the pair reportedly fell out following failure by Mohammed’s candidates to clinch party positions in the state and Tinubu’s tacit support for the governor.

The minister was consequently overlooked as a member of the APC candidate’s presidential campaign council.

The minister and his associates since the beginning of the campaign have not been seen campaigning or endorsing Tinubu’s candidature.

At the campaign which took place at the Metropolitan Square, Ilorin, the minister and his associates called ‘APC Loyal’ boycotted the rally.

Some of the members of the faction opposed to the Governor have been defecting to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and Social Democratic Party, SDP, where some have emerged as candidates.

Speaking during the rally however, Tinubu noted that, “Our freedom in a democracy” is sacrosanct, adding that there is no other choice than him.

Flanked by the APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu and Abdulrazaq, Tinubu said freedom is democracy and can only be guaranteed if he’s voted in as president.

“No other choice, you don’t vote anybody else, you vote for me,” he implored the people.

Dancing to the blaring song eulogising him, the former Lagos State Governor enjoined the people to “Vote president, APC, Senator, APC” and “House of Representatives, APC” on the 25 February elections.

He also implored the people to vote on “March 11, governor, apc, House of Assembly, APC,” pointing out that, “You will have agric processing, vote for me.”

He also promised the people that, “You will get commodity exchange, vote prosperity.”

The lawyer was buried at the Vaults and Gardens (Mayfair) cemetery.

Atiku Denied Access To MKO Abiola Stadium For Ogun Rally

The presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has been turned down by the Ogun State Ministry of Youth and Sports in a request letter by the Peoples Democratic Party to make use of MKO Abiola stadium for rally.

The request in a letter by The PDP to the state Commissioner for Youth and Sports on January 3, 2023, ahead of the rally slated for January 19.

In a letter signed by the state secretary, Sunday Solarin, PDP recalled how an earlier request for the use of the stadium was not obliged by the state government.

The letter read in part, “It is pertinent to mention that the use of this state asset was sought in April 2022 vide a letter dated 5th April 2022 requesting for the use of the facility for the conduct of our party primary.

Our request was kept in suspension to date which translated to tactical denial. We will like to put this unwarranted denial behind us, we wish to vehemently emphasise that the use of state assets should be to the benefit of the general citizenry irrespective of any leaning.

“We, therefore, once again formally write to seek the usage of this facility for the purpose, and on the date indicated above.”

In response to the party’s latest request, the Ministry of Youths and Sports, in a letter dated January 10, 2023, said the stadium could not be available for use.

According to the Director, Administration and Supplies For Permanent Secretary, I.A Kuforiji, the stadium was undergoing a major renovation.

The letter read, “Further to your letter of 3rd January 2023, in respect to the above subject, I have the directive to inform you that the MKO Abiola International Stadium is undergoing a major renovation of the spectators’ seats and other important areas within the premises.

“As we are all aware that people of high profile in the society are expected to be in attendance and the facility is not yet in good condition to accommodate events until it is completed and ready for use.

“In this regard, the ministry would not be able to accede to your request for the above-stated reason.”

A report comes that the same stadium hosted a football match in the Iseya Cup Competition on Sunday.

2023: APC Is Using State Agencies To Intimidate Voters In Lagos – PDP Raises Alarm

JThe Peoples Democratic Party PDP Lagos State chapter has raised alarm over an allegation that some state agencies are being used to intimidate voters.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Publicity Secretary of the Lagos chapter of the party, Amode Hakeem and made available to newsmen as read in part:

I”Address you today to call your attention to the ongoing voter manipulation being embarked upon by the ruling All Progressive Congress in Lagos state. The manipulation has reached a proportion where it is now been aided by the state government apparatus and we found it imperative to call your attention to the misnomer.

“We are aware of the ruling APC government officials using their position to collect voters’ information and requesting the submission of photocopies of Permanent Voter Cards – PVC as a prerequisite for work permits in transport parks and trading in the markets. We view these directives and actions as hoodwinking and an attempt by the ruling APC government to manipulate the 2023 election ahead.

“The Peoples Democratic Party in Lagos State is hereby calling the attention of the Independent National Electoral Commission, the Inspector General of Police, and all well-meaning Nigerians to the electoral fraud being committed before the conduct of the 2023 election by the ruling APC government in Lagos state.

“In consonance with the promise of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari to deliver a credible election which we have seen the demonstration in Ekiti and Osun state gubernatorial elections, we are using this opportunity to call the attention of the President, the Chairman of INEC and the Inspector General of Police to the voter’s manipulation anomalies currently going on in Lagos state.

“Recently, we got a report that some unscrupulous INEC staff are colluding with members of the ruling party in the state to deny some groups of people access to collection of their Permanent Voters Cards. One Mr. Muyiwa Mojeed Yusuf, the INEC head of ICT in Lagos was alleged to have connived with the APC to clone the faces of voters through his privileged access to the PVCs. We were also informed that a staff of INEC in the Ojo area, one Miss Balogun. A. Olasunbo (Ojelabi) allegedly married to the State Chairman of Lagos APC, Mr. Cornelius Ojelabi, is using her position to manipulate the distribution and collection of PVC. We are currently investigating the report and we would appreciate your distinguished eagle eye to assist us in conducting an investigative assessment of our claim.

“Our campaign has suffered several onslaughts from the ruling government and we have remained resolute in mobilizing the grassroots voters who are directly affected and had endured the harassment, intimidation, and highhandedness that is synonymous with this administration. We cannot afford to continue to allow the ruling party to continue the display of entitled hegemony in a democratic society. We believe the people have a say in whom is elected to form a government and the sanctity of their choice should be respected and protected under the electoral law and process.

“We have had our ward tour campaign threatened in the Alimosho area by gangs of hoodlums working for the state agency. Our ward campaign tour entourage was attacked by the same group of hoodlums working for that same agency in the Badagry area of the state. When our team went for a road show to sensitize people in traffic in the Mile 2 area of the state, another set of the same hoodlums working for the state agency attacked them which resulted in hospitalizing two of our members who sustained various machete injuries. In Alimosho and Apapa local government areas, markets women were threatened and intimidated to submit the souvenir we gave to them. We found this absurd because the apron we gave them is to aid their trade and we are yet to understand why the ruling government detests the ordinary people living in the state to extent of trying to subdue them to their whims and caprices even when it is not comfortable for the people.

“Members of the Lagos Transport and Motor Parks Administration in the state have continued to forcefully intimidate transport operators to adorn the campaign stickers of the APC on their vehicles and to submit their PVC to continue to operate in the state. We found this directive inimical to a free and fair election and also another attempt by the ruling party to manipulate the 2023 elections.

“Our party is also aware of the removal of our banners from the highways and replacing them with that of the ruling party. We have been reliably informed of the usage of an agency of the state, the Lagos State Signage and Advertising Agency (LASSA) to remove our posters in several locations in the state.

“Distinguished Gentlemen of the Press, I believe the sustenance of our democracy depends largely on respecting the choice of the people in a free and fair election. I am by this address requesting your cooperation in protecting our nascent democracy, our innocent voters, and our future which our governance depends on. It is my assurance that you will lend your voice to protecting democracy and individual votes”.
