Ondo Election: Akeredolu Battles for Survival, APC Petitions CP

Recently, there have been intrigues and political manoeuvering in Ondo State owing to the forthcoming Guber election. Several plots and gang-up against the candidacy of the State Governor have been revealed in the past two weeks.

Yesterday, the Ondo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress and Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, have written a petition to the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Bolaji Salami, to investigate an allegation of electoral fraud made by a former Secretary to the State Government, Mr Sunday Abegunde.

Abegunde, who resigned from his position last week, had granted a media interview claiming that he and some others committed electoral fraud to ensure victory for Akeredolu in the 2016 governorship election.

The APC and Akeredolu through their lawyer, Mr Femi Emodamori, subsequently asked the police commissioner to investigate the claim.

In a petition dated July 14, 2020, the ruling party said Abegunde’s allegations were diametrically spurious, false, reckless, senseless, and criminal.

The petition read in part, “Consequently, we have the instruction of our clients to call on your office to set all the necessary machineries under your control as the Commissioner of Police in motion, to unravel the truth or falsehood in the allegation(s) of Abegunde, by conducting a thorough investigation into the allegation in this petition.”

Dapo Abiodun inspects road projects, vows to complete inherited projects.

Dapo Abiodun in his statement released today as thus: It is naturally expected that the good people of Ogun State will be patient with us, as our Administration fixes all roads in due time.

I stated this today when I inspected the progress of work done on the reconstruction of the 14.5km Ijebu Ode-Epe Expressway, one of the many road projects we have undertaken in the one year and a month of our time in office.

At the flag off in February, I had stated that the Expressway project would be completed early 2021, but by reason of the COVID-19 pandemic, it will now be commissioned by this time next year.

During today’s inspection, I mentioned that we did not create this problem of bad roads. We met it here. However, we have so far completed over 20km of the record 80km of roads we have been working on for the past one year. The roads are there for all to see.

Currently, we are prioritising critical roads such as the Ota-Akute and Ishashi-Ojodu-Akute/Journalists Roads, whose projects are in their 2nd phases which would start soon.

Having first the interest of the good people of Ogun State at heart, I want to reassure everyone that one after the other, all our roads will be worked on, and we will not leave anyone abandoned. I share the pain of the people, so rest assured, the situation is under control.
