Dr. Ayodele Ajayi, his wife, and their driver were taken hostage by gunmen who are believed to be kidnappers. He was the former provost of the Federal College of Education (FCE), Osiele, Abeokuta.
On Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at around 7.17 p.m., the event reportedly took place in the Odeda Local Government of Ogun State’s Ikija village, Olodo region, on the Abeokuta-Ibadan road.
The kidnappers then released Mrs. Ajayi, and left with the former provost and his driver.
Five people had reportedly been abducted in the previous week, according to a source who told the publication that the hoodlums’ operations in the region was growing daily.
According to the source, the shooters attacked their victims after emerging from the bush.
Two of the five people the gunmen kidnapped yesterday were eventually released.
Additionally, three fatalities occurred last month. A well-known businessman who ran a sizable farm along the axis was among those killed.
“The Olu of Odeda in Odeda Town, Oba David Olorunisola, was almost kidnapped this week while his driver was shot and is still receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC),”
Help is needed; this is becoming too much. The insider continued, “Our security agencies need to take responsibility for their duties since our people are no longer protected.
Omolola Odutola, a spokeswoman for the State Police Command, verified the event and said that the police and other security personnel are looking for the kidnappers.
The Nigeria Police Force has said it would punish skitmaker Abdulgafar Ahmad aka Cute Abiola for wearing a police uniform in his skits and for desecrating the Nigeria Police Force uniform in the process.
This was made known in a statement signed by Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, and shared on Thursday.
Adejobi said, “In as much as the law grants Nigerians the right to enjoy their fundamental human rights, the same law prohibits an individual, under whatever guise, from rubbishing the police institution or grossly violating its provisions with regards to the use of uniforms.
“We, therefore, vehemently condemn the contemptuous act displayed by comedian Abdulgafar Abiola, popularly known as “Cute Abiola,” in two recent skits posted on his social media handles on 20th and 24th July 2023. The skits in question show a highly disrespectful and derogatory portrayal of the police uniform, an action that is in direct violation of Section 251 of the Criminal Code and Section 133 of the Penal Code Law. Such acts are not only offensive but also undermine the integrity and dignity of the men and women who wear the uniform in service to the nation.
“Abdulgafar Abiola will be investigated and possibly prosecuted for his deliberate acts as the NPF had already warned skit makers and filmmakers to desist from desecrating their uniform or accoutrements. The Force is committed to upholding the sanctity of the uniform and will pursue due legal process to ensure accountability for any individual or entity that seeks to bring disrepute to the uniform or the institution it represents. We call on all members of the public, including media personalities, to exercise their freedom of expression responsibly and avoid engaging in actions that could erode public trust in our revered law enforcement institutions.”

A traditional ruler, Olu of Onibuku in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State, Oba Abraham Olusegun Bankole, was crushed to death by a truck.
The monarch was said to be aboard a tricycle, otherwise known as Keke Napep, when the liquor-laden truck ran over the tricycle along the Ota-Idiroko expressway, close to Winners Chapel on Tuesday, July 25, 2023.
The Oba was said to have died on the spot when the truck with registration number, EPE 252 XF, crushed him while trying to alight from the tricycle.
The spokesperson of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun, Florence Okpe, confirmed the incident.
I was informed of the incident today,” she stated.
Okpe, however, said she was yet to be fully briefed by the FRSC in Ota Unit.
The remains of the monarch have been deposited at the General Hospital, Ota while the truck was moved out of the road by police officers.
The spokesperson for the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, Babatunde Akinbiyi also confirmed the incident.
Akinbiyi said his officer had been briefed over the fatal accident.
“Yes, it is true. There was an accident in the area today and it recorded a casualty,” he said.
“Corps Commander and Chief Executive Officer of Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency commiserates with the Kabiyesi’s family and entire inhabitants of the community,” he added.
A first-class Oba in Ogun West, who confirmed the incident to newsmen expressed sadness over why the monarch decided to commute in a tricycle instead of a personal car.
There are speculations that Oba Bankole might have parked his car due to the hike in the pump price of petrol.
A renown actor, Mr Muyiwa Adegoke (a.k.a. Londoner) yesterday led the representatives of about nine communities under the auspices of PIAOGECO General Community in Oluyole local government area to pay a congratulatory visit to Hon. Waheed Akintayo who is representing Oluyole constituency in the 10th Oyo State House of Assembly.

Oyo State Governor, Engineer Oluseyi Makinde (FNSE) has commenced the issuance of the 2021 Promotion letters to eligible workers, across all Ministry, Department and Agencies in the State.
The Chairman, Civil Service Commission, Alhaji Aderibigbe Kamoru Abiodun, made this known in a Statement, released in his Office on Wednesday.
The Chairman, declared that about Two Thousand, One Hundred and Sixty Six (2,166) eligible Workers in all Ministries , Departments and7 Agencies have been receiving the promotion letters, from the beginning of the week.
Similarly, His Excellency, has approved the year 2022 Conversion to Six Hundred and Eighty-Eighty officers into various Cadres in the Civil service of Oyo State.
He disclosed that the Executive Governor of the State, Engineer Oluseyi Makinde holds, and will continue to take the well-being of Workers as great priority.

The Oyo State House of Assembly has condemned in strong terms the recent kidnap of a Medical practitioner working with Baptist Medical Centre in Okeho, Dr. D.O Lawal and a young lady by the name, Kafilat.
The victims were reportedly kidnapped on Sunday 23rd July, 2023 in a Micra taxi by unknown men along Okeho/Isemi road in Kajola Local Government and since them their whereabouts have remained unknown.
The kidnap case was brought before the Oyo State House of Assembly on Tuesday by member representing Kajola State Constituency, Hon Musibau Azeez (Action) in a Matter of Urgent Public Importance.
Hon Musibau Azeez states “that the rate of insecurity, especially kidnapping in recent times in Oyo State is alarming. It has become a matter of major concern that requires urgent attention. Despite the efforts of the administration of His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde in providing necessary logistics and support for security Agencies to work with in making sure that crime is reduced to the bearest minimum in Oyo State, It is quite unfortunate and disturbing that some wicked elements are bent on destabilizing the peace and tranquility being enjoyed and also rubbish the efforts put in place by the Government from time to time.
” Aware that despite the frantic efforts of Security Agents, nobody could trace the whereabouts of the two victims and no phone call has been heard from the kidnappers to request for ransom or otherwise.”
” The unwholesome and negative occurrence has threatened peace, security and economy of Okeho, Kajola Local Government and the State. If care is not taken, this may send negative signals to local and foreign investors who are willing to partner with Oyo State thereby having negative effect on our economy. Observes that people living in Okeho in Oke – Ogun Area of the State now live in panic and fear, farmers are afraid of going to farm, people are afraid of being engaged in their daily business activities because of fear of being killed or kidnapped. The House resolved with a call on the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State and other Security Agencies to urgently swing into action and secure the release of Dr D.O Lawal and the young lady, Kafilat.
The lawmakers also urged the Adhoc Committee on Security to expedite action towards organizing a Security Summit that would serve as a platform for all the Security Agencies in the State to deliberate on the security challenges facing the State and proffer necessary solutions.
The Oyo State House of Assembly equally called on the Executive Arm of Government through the Ministry of Public Works and Transport to put necessary machineries in place towards the installation of CCTV cameras, security light and other gadgets in strategic locations in the State in order to expose or identify faces of criminals in the State.
In a recent and deeply disturbing incident along the Ado/Iyin express road, the police have taken into custody three suspects: Ogunsusi Damilola, Olorunnisola Segun, and Sekoni Tunde. The arrests were made in connection to the suspected murder of an 85-year-old yam farmer, whose life was tragically cut short.
