Arsenal Wins FA Cup To Qualify For Europa League

Chelsea had been ahead after just five minutes through Christian Pulisic.

After the break, Pulisic broke forward looking to add his second of the afternoon but instead was soon going the same way as his captain, limping off with a hamstring injury after shooting wide.

Pedro entered the fray in his place as Chelsea started to wrestle back control of the contest. That was until Aubameyang struck once again.

Hector Bellerin burst forward down the right and Christensen’s heavy challenge saw the ball break to Pepe, his pass picked up by Aubameyang who turned on to his preferred left foot to lift the ball over Caballero.

Osun PDP Threatens Protest Over The Suspension Of State Chairman

Aggrieved members of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ijesa North Federal Constituency on Saturday threatened to embark on a protest at the PDP National Secretariat over the party’s refusal to recall the suspended Osun State chairman of the party, Mr Soji Adagunodo.

A statement released on Sunday, “Ijesa North PDP threatens to embark on protest against refusal to reinstate Adagunodo,” was signed by Rotimi Odugbemi, the leader of the group.

The members noted that if the suspension of the chairman could not be reversed, then another loyal party member from Ijesa North Federal Constituency should be appointed to complete his tenure.

The group said the silence of the national leadership of the party over the issue was becoming an embarrassment, insisting that it would soon storm the PDP national secretariat in protest, if its demand were not met.

The statement read in part, “We members of the party (Ijesa North Federal Constituency) are set to stage a protest at the National Secretariat of the party in Abuja. We are demanding from the national leadership of the PDP the reinstatement of Soji Adagunodo as chairman of the party in Osun or the appointment of another competent and loyal party man from Obokun Local Government Area, where Adagunodo hails from as chairman in line with the dictate of Section 47; sub-section 6 of the PDP constitution.”

Lagos Reopens Worship Centres Aug. 7 as Clubs Remain Closed

The new directive comes weeks after reneging on his decision to open religious centres back in June.

In a media briefing that held earlier today, Sanwo-Olu revealed that the state’s decision to reopen some businesses follows the reduced number of positive cases recorded in the state.

Religious centres will however not be permitted to hold activities for more than one day in the week and must comply with the 50 percent capacity rule. Restaurants and some social clubs will need to be certified by the state’s safety commission before resuming full operation. Upon approval, they must maintain the stipulated capacity.

The governor also increased the number of persons allowed in a public gathering from 20 to 50.

Clubs, cinemas, games arcades will remain closed but a review will hold in the coming weeks for possible reopening.

Recall the state shut down churches as well as major public gatherings back in March due to the coronavirus outbreak

Fire Guts Foam Market in Mushin, Lagos

The foam market in Ladipo Street, Mushin, Lagos State of Nigeria gutted fire today at exactly 1.30pm.

The incident which led to many properties and shops razed has been tagged double jeopardy by the market women whose means of livelihoods have been seriously affected due to the ravaging COVID-19 pandemic that has dealt a deadly blow to the economy of the State and Nigeria at large.

The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwoolu while appealing to the market women called for calm as all necessary measures will be taken to ameliorate their sufferings.

Polytechnic Students Protest, Give 14-Day Ultimatum To Reopen Schools

POLYTECHNIC STUDENTS EMBARKED ON PEACEFUL PROTEST, CALL ON FG TO REOPEN SCHOOLS WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT

In a statement released today by the President of National Association of Polytechnic Students NAPS while protesting. The NAPS President said, “We can not continue to keep mute in the face of bad policy, most especially that has to do with the education Sector.

COVID 19 has come to stay with us, whether we agree or not,there is cure or there is going to be cure to it like Malaria, all we need from the Federal Government is to stop partaking in the global politics and come out with a specific date for Schools’ Reopening, FG has given a guidelines on schools’ reopening and everybody is ready to adhere strictly with the guidelines, we have seen some Polytechnics that have displayed their readiness.

Federal Ministry of Education should wake up to the task on provision of preventive measure materials across the tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

If ASUP is not ready to go back to Class, their Salary should be stopped henceforth, no work no pay, but if the Federal Government refuses to give a specific date between now and next 14 days, the entire Polytechnic Students across the country will not hesitate to mobilize in millions across the streets in Nigeria, we are ready to stop the economic activities of the Country”.

NAPS Leadership staged a peaceful demonstration today 1st August in Ibadan as a pilot scheme for the mass action perpetual closure of tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

Activities Crippled in Oluyole Factory Over The Death Of UI Student

Following the death of Gbadebo Richard, a 300-level University of Ibadan (UI) Student at the Oluyole factory, the management of Expand Global Industries Limited has suspended the production at its Oluyole Estate factory.

The undergraduate who was a casual staff in the factory was said to have slipped into the soap-making machine and died. Meanwhile, many human right activists have been calling on government to ensure that justice prevail over the death of the young guy.

It will be recalled that in October last year, thousands of human right activists trooped out to protest inhumane treatment meted on staff of a SUMAL Company in Oluyole, Ibadan particularly the casual staff.

It was also learnt that Casual workers in the company also joined the human right activists under the aegis of SPN, CDWR and others to demand an improvement in their slavery working condition.

Summal Food Company, located in Oluyole Estate, Ring Road, Ibadan, Oyo State, is a Lebanese owned company which produces biscuit, coffee and sweet gum among others. It is also involved in environmental and event decorations, digital photo and video coverage services. Summal has a number of high profile subsidiaries including Yale foods and Vital foods which produce digestive, Malted milk, Robot Gum among others.

Currently, over 15,000 youths, who are between the age of 18 and 23 years, are used as casual workers in the company. Every casual worker receives a meagre daily pay of N800. This is after working between 9 and 12 hours in a precarious job without avenue for break and company medical facilities even in case of any emergency. Every causal worker in the company compulsorily works from Monday to Sunday without any remuneration for overtime.

It was the accumulated mass anger and displeasure against this kind of slave working condition that triggered the October 2nd mass protest that paralysed both the production and administrative activities in the company for three days. This struggle which broke out in the early hour of the day was, at its commencement, directionless and uncoordinated. However this huge challenge was later overcome with the help of a quick and skilful intervention by members of the Campaign for Democratic and Workers’ Rights, CDWR, and Socialist Party of Nigeria, SPN.

Olumide Akpata has been declared the President elect of The Nigerian Bar Association NBA in its recent election held on Wednesday, July 29th of 2020. The result of the election goes thus: Julius Oladele SAN had 881 votes, Babatunde Ajibade 1049, Olumide Akpata 2319. Olumide Akpata having got the highest votes was declared the winner of the election.

The statement further read “We must bear it in mind that we have no country that we can call our home other than Nigeria and we must ensure that we coexist in peace and tranquillity. The Nigeria of our dream can only be achieved if we all play our role in a patriotic way.”

Resumption of schools is ill-advised – NMA

It is no longer new that the South West Governors and the Federal Government recently had a virtual meeting where they concluded that students who are in exit classes should be allowed to resume on August 4 in order to allow them write their final examinations particularly WAEC which is slated to commence on August 17.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Medical Association has berated the level of preparedness of the Federal Government for ordering the schools to reopen for studies amid the surge in COVID-19 cases.

The NMA says the recent study has shown that schools’ closure had been linked to reduced COVID-19 infections and associated deaths in hard hit countries.

The NMA expressed worries over the recent decision of Federal Government to reopen the schools for the exit classes on August 4.

The NMA President, Prof. Innocent Ujah, said, “What is the level of compliance of the citizens in terms of regular hand-washing and other safety protocols?

“At the moment, many of the schools don’t even have water. Obviously, it becomes very difficult to say that schools should reopen because you have to wash your hands regularly.

“Again, I don’t know how the teachers would be teaching with face masks and all the pupils will wear face masks.

“If you are not used to face masks, you may not breathe well, particularly if the one you have is not standard,” Ujah said.
