In the extract of a petition letter sent to the BoT by one of the candidates that contested in the recently held NBA election, Mr. Dele Adesina SAN calling for the cancellation of the election.

Mr. Adesina said “My fraternal greetings and profound respect to the Chairman and other members of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Board of Trustees.

I send this Petition to you with all sense of responsibility and in appreciation of the motto of the NBA which is – “Promoting the Rule of Law” – with a clarion call that you rise up and save our beloved Association. In writing this Petition, please I beseech you to have attention to the following fundamental observations as regards my person:

I am writing this Petition because of my heartfelt desire to redeem the image and integrity of our Association that is consistently being beaten and battered every two years by electoral fraud.

b) The NBA as a generational Association is supposed to be and is presumably composed by men and women of honour, honesty and integrity. These ethical values have to be exhibited by the Association at all times. Please recognise that these ethical values are not just in words only, they are in consistency of actions.


It is against the foregoing background that I am compelled to present this Petition to the Trustees with a view to letting you know that the conduct of the NBA Election of July 29-30, 2020 is not only a violation of all the known values of our Profession but is also capable of bringing disgrace and dishonour to the Association and the Legal Profession in general and I will be urging your Body to take a stand with respect, promptly.”

Ajimobi’s 40th Day Fidau Prayer Holds Today

The 40th day fidau prayer of the immediate past Governor of Oyo State, Abiola Ajimobi will hold today.

This was announced in a statement signed by the former media aide to the late governor, Bolaji Tunji on Wednesday.

The statement read: “the 40th day Fidau prayers for His Excellency, Senator Ishaq Abiola Adeyemi Ajimobi will hold August 6, 2020 in Ibadan.

“In line with Covid-19 protocols as laid down by NCDC, the event will strictly be a family affair.

“However, there will be a live coverage of the event on NTA from 11am onwards. He stated further that the event will be streamed live.

Oyo Approves Funds for The Take off of Amotekun

…Keys into FG’s National Development Plan

Oyo State Government on Tuesday approved the sum of N59, 783, 437.50 (Fifty nine million, seven hundred and eighty-three thousand, four hundred and thirty-seven Naira and fifty Kobo) as grant for the take-off of the State Security Network Agency, codenamed ‘Operation Amotekun’.

This was disclosed after the state’s 19th virtual executive meeting, where the executive council approved the fund for the procurement of 3000 units of uniforms, combat boots, lanyard, baseball hats, security belts and worsted socks.

It will also cover the production of logo for the personnel to serve as identity and distinguish them from other security agencies in the State.

The Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Dr. Wasiu Olatunbosun, while disclosing the outcome of the meeting, said “further on the establishment of the State Security Network, codenamed ‘Operation Amotekun’ and for effective take off of the agency, the State Executive Council has approved the procurement of 3000 units of uniforms and accoutrements such as combat boots, lanyard, baseball hats, security belts, worsted socks, production of Amotekun and Oyo State logo for 3000 Amotekun corps to be recruited into the agency at a total sum of Fifty nine million, seven hundred and eighty three thousand, four hundred and thirty seven naira and fifty kobo.

“The uniforms and accoutrements which will be given to each recruited Amotekun Corp will serve as a form of identity for the corps and will distinguish them from other security agencies in the state.”

Olatubosun further stated that the council also approved funds for re-accreditation of Adeoyo Maternity at Yemetu in Ibadan as a full fledged teaching hospital, as the accreditation initially gotten was withdrawn for failure to have necessary equipments in place, saying it was in conformity with the present administration’s passion to revitalise the health sector in the State.

He said the hospital would henceforth serve as residence training and gynaecology centre to add value to the iconic health institution and improve the image of the State, adding that the move would lead to procurement of medical equipment for the teaching hospital at the cost of Seventy-five million, eight hundred and seventy-seven thousand and six hundred Naira (#75,877,600.00).

“In pursuant of this lofty goal, the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria has visited Adeoyo Maternity Teaching Hospital and the team has notified the state government of their intention to give re-accreditation to Adeoyo Maternity Teaching Hospital.

The equipment to be procured includes six hydraulic delivery beds, two theatre electronic/automatic tables and one Laparoscope plus one hysteroscope. Others are one Colposcope, two CTG, two Ultrasound, four Angle Poise Lamps and one bowl anaesthetic machine.

“Summary of the equipment for re-accreditation of Adeoyo Maternity Teaching Hospital at a total cost of N75,877,600.00, the facility is expected to be ready for reaccreditation before the end of the year 2020.”

The Commissioner also informed journalists that the State government, through the Executive Council, has keyed into the federal government’s preparation for a long-term plan tagged “Nigeria Agenda 2050” and a medium-term national development plan 2021-2025 which he said would succeed the Vision 20:2020 and the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP) 2017-2020.

He said the decision is consistent with the development process as obtained in countries like China, South Korea, India and Malaysia. He hinted that preparation for the State Plan 2021-2041, the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF), Medium Term Sector Strategy (MTSS) and Medium-Term Budget Framework (MTBF) would commence from August 2020 and span a period of 133 days at a total sum of N83,571,725.00.

The University of Ibadan Ventures Limited (Consultancy Service Unit) has also been appointed as the consultant to support the process.

According to Dr Olatubosun, “the plan will be anchored on six strategic thematic areas, namely, Economic Development, Human Capital and Social Development, Infrastructure, Science and Technology, Resources Mobilisation and Financial Management, Security, Governance and Service Delivery.”

“The plan is to emphasise on the development agenda of the current administration as encapsulated in the Roadmap to Accelerated Development of Oyo State.”

“In line with best practices, the State would adopt an all-inclusive and participatory approach to preparing the home grown State Development Plan.

“In order to enhance the broad-base ownership of the implementation of the Plan, key stakeholders with include all MDAs, Local Government Areas, Local Council Development Authorities, Civil Society Organizations, the Academia, Research Institutions, DAWN Commission, Development Partners like UNICEF, DFID-PERL among others.

In its reply to Minister of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi on the controversial $5.5Billion Chinese Loan, the pan-Yoruba sociopolitical group, Afenifere Says No Inch Of Yoruba Land Will Be Ceded To FG’s Creditors.

The pan-Yoruba sociopolitical group, Afenifere declared that no inch of Yoruba land will be ceded to creditors of the Federal Government should there be reasons for its creditors to make such demands.

Afenifere was reacting to reports that the Federal Government had signed an agreement with the Chinese government, which contains a clause that compels Nigeria to waive its immunity for itself or its property in case of a breach of the agreement.

$5.5Billion Chinese Loan- Afenifere Replies Amaechi, Says No Inch Of Yoruba Land Will Be Ceded To FG’s Creditors. In a statement by its spokesman, Mr Yinka Odumakin, Afenifere described the disclosure that a clause in a loan agreement signed by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government ceded the sovereignty of Nigeria and its assets if the nation defaults in payment as worrisome.

Odumakin said: “The Yoruba nation will not allow an inch of its land to be taken over by any foreign interest to which any government that is loan-crazy must have concessioned the sovereignty.

We are not aware of any such authority given to any government to do such. “Let lenders beware so they don’t give loans beyond what any regime can repay in its tenure.”

The controversial clause in the agreement says: “The borrower hereby irrevocably waives any immunity on the grounds of sovereign or otherwise for ITSELF or its property in connection with any arbitration proceeding pursuant to Article 8(5), thereof with the enforcement of any arbitral award pursuant thereto, except for the military assets and diplomatic assets.”

Osun PDP Threatens Protest Over The Suspension Of State Chairman

Aggrieved members of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ijesa North Federal Constituency on Saturday threatened to embark on a protest at the PDP National Secretariat over the party’s refusal to recall the suspended Osun State chairman of the party, Mr Soji Adagunodo.

A statement released on Sunday, “Ijesa North PDP threatens to embark on protest against refusal to reinstate Adagunodo,” was signed by Rotimi Odugbemi, the leader of the group.

The members noted that if the suspension of the chairman could not be reversed, then another loyal party member from Ijesa North Federal Constituency should be appointed to complete his tenure.

The group said the silence of the national leadership of the party over the issue was becoming an embarrassment, insisting that it would soon storm the PDP national secretariat in protest, if its demand were not met.

The statement read in part, “We members of the party (Ijesa North Federal Constituency) are set to stage a protest at the National Secretariat of the party in Abuja. We are demanding from the national leadership of the PDP the reinstatement of Soji Adagunodo as chairman of the party in Osun or the appointment of another competent and loyal party man from Obokun Local Government Area, where Adagunodo hails from as chairman in line with the dictate of Section 47; sub-section 6 of the PDP constitution.”

Ondo Election: Akeredolu Names Lucky Ayedatiwa Running Mate

Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, the governor of Ondo State has just announced Lucky Ayedatiwa, a former representative of the state on the Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) as his running mate for the October 10 election.

Oduduwa News confirmed that Mr Ayedatiwa’s name was sent to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Tuesday.

He is a native of Obe-Nla, an oil-bearing community in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State.

Confirming the development, Mr Akeredolu uploaded a graphic showing his name and Mr Ayedatiwa on Twitter on Wednesday.

JUST IN: Oyo Assembly Approves Revised N174bn 2020 Budget

The Oyo State House of Assembly in its Plenary today unanimously approved the sum of N174billion newly reviewed budget for the year 2020.

The newly approved budget came to realization having amended the earlier quoted budget before the outbreak of COVID-19. The State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde having realized that the earlier passed 2020 budget could not be achieved due to the ravaging COVID-19 Pandemic and the resultant effect on the economy of the State went to the State House of Assembly to present the newly reviewed budget.

In the meantime, N70 Million was approved for The Oke-Ogun Polytechnic, N210 million for Traffic Management Board, N1billion for Housing Corporation, N20 Million for Civil Service Commission among others as read by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Debo Ogundoyin.
