JUST IN: Oyetola heads to tribunal with fifty lawyers over Osun Guber poll

Gboyega Oyetola, governor of Osun State may engage no fewer than 50 lawyers, including senior advocates, to challenge the victory of Ademola Adeleke, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, in last Saturday’s governorship election in the state.

Kunle Adegoke, a member of the governor’s legal team, gave this indication on Tuesday.

Adegoke who spoke in an interview said that they were still reviewing the results declared by INEC.

He said, “We are still reviewing documents and the legal team is actually working. In an election of this nature, the documents will be so many; so it is important to look at them critically before we make a decision and that is exactly what we are working on right now.

“Dr Biodun Layonu (SAN), is the leader of the team. The legal team is not complete yet because there are so many others that will still come in.

“In the meantime, the two members of the legal team we can reveal are Dr Biodun Layonu and Kunle Adegoke. Others that may come in are people we may not know but as soon as we are ready to move, we will notify the press.

“The membership can’t be determined as many lawyers are interested in joining the team. You know election petition is a special case. So, we allow as many lawyers that are interested to come in. We may run into 50 or more members.”

Meanwhile, on Tuesday the PDP and the governor-elect, Adeleke warned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) against allowing the All Progressives Congress to tamper with election materials.

This is as David Adeleke, a popular singer popularly called Davido, revealed on Tuesday that his uncle was yet to receive certificate of return from the electoral umpire days after winning the Osun election.

The electoral body had on Sunday declared Adeleke the winner of the governorship election in the state. The Returning Officer for the election and Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, said Adeleke got a total of 403,371 votes to beat the incumbent APC governor, who polled 375,027 votes and 13 other candidates in the keenly contested race.

Ogun Govt hurriedly provides furniture for schools days after bashing

A day after being captured with their promotion exams being written on the ground, students at St. Kizito’s High School in Iwopin, Ogun Waterside, received classroom desks from the Ogun State Government.

Festus Ogun, a lawyer, posted images of the pupils on his social media accounts on Monday while criticizing the Dapo Abiodun administration.

Ogun uploaded images on Tuesday showing that new furniture sets had been brought to the school.

Ogun remarked the most recent event, “It is commendable that the Ogun State Government quickly sent chairs to the kids at St. Kizito’s High School in Iwopin. While I applaud this intervention, I respectfully argue that the humiliating display could have been avoided in the first place.”

Residents Knock Dapo Abiodun As Ogun Students Write Exams On Bare Floor

Residents of Iwopin in Ogun Waterside Area of Ogun State were on Monday outraged as students of St. Kizito Senior Secondary School, a public secondary school in Iwopin began their Third Term promotion examination on bare floor of their classrooms.

According to some of the residents who showed Tribune Online round the school premises, the condition of learning at the school is unacceptable and very degrading.

Speaking with the Tribune Online on Monday, the Chairman, St. Kizito High School Alumni Association, Mr Kabiru Abass called on the Ogun State government to attend to the issue of lack of infrastructure at the school and some other schools in Ogun Waterside Local Government.

According to Mr Abass, “This is an issue that has been ongoing for a very long time now. I am the Chairperson of the Alumni association of the school.

“At the Alumni level, we have done a lot. We are the ones that renovated the whole laboratory for the students. We ensured that the laboratory has all the necessary facilities to provide a conducive learning environment for the students.

“We (alumni) were also responsible for the renovation of the Corpers Lodge, where National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members are lodged when they come here for national service.

“We are also currently doing some desks and chairs, but not in large quantity due to funding. Members of the Alumni made pledges according to their ability.

“We have met with the Parent Teachers Association (PTA) of the school about three times, and have urged them to support the school to provide a conducive learning environment for the students.

“We have also met with officials of the Ogun Waterside Local Government, but they keep telling us that education is free. That they cannot do anything except it comes from the Ogun State Government.

“This is a school that has produced notable people in Ogun Waterside Local Governments. A serving Commissioner in Ogun State graduated from this school. The current Deputy Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly finished from this school.

“It’s a shame that people still see education has been free. This is not helping our children’s future.”

Another resident of Iwopin who simply identified himself as Mr Tayo explained the situation ”is unacceptable. Just about every stakeholder here is culpable. It shows the school’s management is unenterprising. “Why didn’t they look for local assistance? How did the parents manage to allow their wards to go through this? Just because they want free education?

“Let’s not even talk of the government. We need to rethink our concept of education in this country. *We need to accept the sad reality that free education may no longer be possible or worthwhile if we want our kids to be truly educated.”

I am an Executive member of the school Alumni, 1995 Set, and an active member of the Alumni.
As members of the Alumni, though few of us are active, we are doing our best but most of the old students of this school are not interested in the Alumni.

I am using this medium to call on all the old students of this school to join the Alumni and let us try our best to give back to our Alma Mater. Please come and join us. We need you. St Kizito’s needs you. Iwopin needs you. Come let us work as a team.

Secondary school students sitting on the floor;
this is too shameful and unacceptable. We are appealing to the government, Iwopin community and goodwill individuals to wake up and save the deplorable condition of our school.

Osun Election: Aregbesola’s Men Worked For Me – Adeleke

Ademola Adeleke, governor-elect of Osun state, says some associates of Rauf Aregbesola, minister of interior, worked for him during the governorship election.

The governor-elect spoke in an interview aired by Channels Televison on Monday.

On Sunday, Adeleke, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was declared winner of the Osun governorship election.

Adeleke secured 403,371 votes to defeat his closest contender, Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who polled 375,027 votes.

Prior to the election, Aregbesola and Oyetola fell out over the tussle for control of the Osun APC leadership.

The minister was also absent during the party’s campaign in the state, and did not vote in the election.

Speaking on the claim that Aregbesola supported the PDP, Adeleke said he did not work with the minister on his governorship bid.

“I did not work with Aregbesola. I didn’t even talk to him, but all I know is his associates, for example, Kolapo Alimi, one of the lawyers that represented Oyetola at the tribunal,” he said.

“Then, anytime I saw him (Alimi) in court, because I’m a civilised person, I will go to them and greet them and say ‘how are you doing?’ It was later he apologised and said ‘he was thinking ‘why is senator Adeleke greeting me? We are trying to mess him up and he is still greeting me’.

“But he later told me that while I was greeting him, I didn’t know that I was giving them poison. They knew that I won the election and they rigged me out and I was still greeting them. I believe that Aregbesola and Oyetola fell out.

“He (Alimi) came to me and said he has watched me and that he wants to join our party and we accepted. But Aregbesola directly? No. But we know a lot of top APC that joined.

“Assuming that I had been talking to Aregbesola one way or the other, then I would say that maybe he gave them go-ahead to support me.

“These people have grown; they have their own minds to decide if they want to join me or not. They believed that I was the one to beat and they came to me. I won’t know whether Aregbesola gave them go-ahead or not, because I have not been talking to Aregbesola.”

Asked what was his reaction when Oyetola and Aregbesola fell out, the governor-elect said he thanked God for the development, while admitting that the conflict paved way for his victory.

“I said God is good. These (Aregbesola and Oyetola) are the people that colluded that time. They were together. Kolapo Alimi told me the truth that they robbed me. Even the president said it when he came over here that they won the election through remote control,” he said.

Folarin Faults Olaniyan’s Impeachment, Says Posterity Would Judge Oyo Assembly Members

The Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo state, Senator Teslim Kolawole Folarin has described the impeachment of the Deputy Governor of the state, Rauf Olaniyan as illegal and lack of respect for the rule of law.

He also appealed to members of APC in the state to remain calm, adding that the deputy governor, who has since defected to the major opposition party would appeal the impeachment in the Court of Appeal.

He said APC would not relent in providing alternative to unruly and undemocratic acts of the Peoples Democratic Party (APC) led administration in the state.

Folarin, who advised the Oyo State Assembly’s legislators to remember that posterity would judge whatever they do today, said the process, which they follow in removing the deputy governor contradicts the tenets of the Constitution.
The third term senator in a statement he personally signed in Ibadan on Monday, said the committee set up by the Chief Judge of the state to investigate the deputy governor also showed it lacks integrity.

He queried why the committee would give the deputy governor just 15 minutes to appear before it, adding that the chief judge breached his oath of office by ignoring the service of notice of appeal and application for injunction pending appeal when he proceeded to constitute the investigation committee.
According to Folarin, despite the intervention of the legal adviser to the deputy governor that he needed time to prepare himself for the allegations leveled against him, the Chief Judge set up committee to carry out his bidding.
He said the illegal impeachment does not stop the court of appeal and by extension the Supreme to do their job in days to come.

He also expressed reservation over the way the State’s Chief Judge set up a 7-man committee, there are more questions to be asked over the hurry behind the process.
Folarin harped his conviction on reasons the impeachment of Olaniyan would not just fail but that the consequences would, in the nearest future, hunt those orchestrating it on the fact that similar moves in some states failed.

He described the lawmakers action as a pure disregard to the laws of the country because a service of notice of appeal and application for injunction is pending when the Chief Judge proceeded to constitute the investigation committee.
Folarin assured Olaniyan that APC would stand by him in this period of his ordeal.

PDP Thugs Attacking Us, Destroying Our Properties – Osun Commissioner

The residence of Nathaniel Agunbiade, the Osun Commissioner for Lands and Physical Planning was attacked early on Monday.

It was learnt that the said hoodlums suspected to be political thugs launched the attack on the Erinmo Ijesa town and vandalised his properties and many cars.

It was also reported that several aides of the Commissioner were injured while attempting to resist the attackers.

A member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who preferred anonymity revealed that the attack on the commissioner might not be unconnected with the victory of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Saturday’s Osun gubernatorial election.

He also stated the hoodlums who were hitherto operating underground had suddenly surfaced and had taken to major towns in the state to destroy properties and attack members of the APC.

IGP Orders Probe Of Singer ‘Portable’ For Allegedly Creating Cult Group

The Inspector-General Of Police, Usman Baba, has ordered the probe of music star, Habeeb Okikiola, better known as Portable, over his alleged ties to One Million Boys, a notorious gang.

In a video, which went viral on Monday, Portable was heard saying he formed the gang and another notorious group known as Ajah Boys.

“Open your ears and hear me, Have you heard about Ajah Boys, One Million Boys, I’m their founder. Go and ask Sammy larry.”

The singer spoke Yoruba in the now-deleted video.
