Former Vice Chancellor of Lagos State University, Prof. Lateef Akanni Hussein is dead. Prof. Hussein died after a brief illness in the evening of Sunday, 31st July, 2022 at the age of 75 years.

Prof. Hussein a professor of Physics was the 6th Substantive Vice Chancellor of Lagos State University; he served between 2005 and 2011.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, while confirming the news on Monday, expressed her deep shock at the passing away of her former boss, under whose leadership she served as the Deputy Vice Chancellor of the University.

The respected scholar will be buried today, Monday, 1st August, 2022 accoridng to Islamic rites at Atan Cemetery shortly after a Janazah prayer at LASUTH Central Mosque, Ikeja, Lagos.

NDLEA arrests Instagram slay queen with illicit drugs concealed inside Garri at Lagos Airport

Operatives of the National Dr#g Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a young lady, identified as Ms. Ebhodaghei Gloria Osenemeshen, with illicit dr#gs at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

She was arrested on Monday, July 25, during the outward clearance of travellers on Rwanda Air via Kigali to Dubai, UAE.

NDLEA’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, in a statement on Sunday, July 31, said sachets of Tramadol 225mg concealed inside garriwere discovered in her luggage.

“She however claimed that the bag was given to her by someone who she passed the night in his house before coming to the airport to help deliver to another person in Dubai,” he said.

DSS Nabs Boko Haram Fighter Disguised As A Security Guard In Ogun State

A top Boko Haram leader has been reportedly arrested by the Department of State Security (DSS) in Ogun State.
It was gathered that the suspected Boko Haram leader was arrested at Ijaye area of Abeokuta, the state capital.

According to reports, the terrorist leader came in from Katsina State and took up a security job to act as cover while coordinating kidnapping and terror attacks in Ogun State.

It was also learnt that the arrested man was setting up terrorist cells and gathering information for attacks.

Luck however ran out on him after security operatives got wind of his activities and stormed the Ijaye area to capture him.

A source quoted by Daily Trust on Sunday night said the Boko Haram leader put up a fight when the DSS operatives arrived in the area but eventually bowed to superior firepower and has since been arrested.

“It was not an easy ride. Intelligence and the grace of God were sufficient for the operatives. There are still many of them around, but we are on top of our game,” the source said.

The arrested suspect is currently in DSS custody, it was gathered.

When contacted by the platform for a confirmation of the story, the DSS Spokesman, Dr Peter Afunanya, simply replied “no comment,” to the inquiry.

On his part, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said he was not aware of any arrest.

Police On High Alert
The Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has said it is on alert to defend the commercial city from any form of attack from terrorists.

Lagos Reporters understands that the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said this while speaking during a webinar space over the weekend.

Hundeyin made the bold statement while reacting to reports that dreaded Boko Haram terrorists and its affiliate, the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) are planning to attack the state, as well as some parts of the country.

Reports had claimed that the two sects were planning to invade some parts of the North-West, North-Central and South-West.

The Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yoruba land, Iba Gani Adams, has raised the alarm on the plan by terrorists to attack some States in Southwest region of Nigeria.

In a statement, he signed personally and made available to the media by his Special Assistant on Media, Mr. Kehinde Aderemi, Adams claimed that the forests in the South-West have been infiltrated by terrorists.

He said “Now that Abuja has seemingly lost the battle to terrorists, the South-West region has been the next target of these destroyers of hope.

“But, we will never allow them to destroy our land. Therefore, we urge the six governors in the South-West states to hold an emergency security meeting with stakeholders across the region so as to address the impending implosion.

“We are aware of their plans to strike in Lagos, Ibadan, Oyo State and Abeokuta in Ogun State, however, I implore all the governors in the South-West to recruit local security service structure in their various local governments.”

Herbalist arrested for allegedly raping his client in Ogun

Men of Ogun State Police Command have arrested a herbalist identified as Samson Ogundele, a resident of Referefu area of Oja odan, for allegedly having unlawful carnal knowledge of a young girl (name withheld) who came to his house on consultation.

The suspect was arrested following a report lodged at Oja odan divisional headquarters by the victim, who reported that she is a hairdressing apprentice and that a sum of one thousand naira got missing in their shop which made all the nine apprentices in the shop consult the herbalist to know who stole the money amongst them.

On getting to the herbalist, he started calling them into a room one after the other after collecting N700 from them.

The complainant stated further that the first and second persons entered and came out, and when it was her turn, she entered and the herbalist tried to r@pe her.

Upon her complaint, the DPO Oja odan division, CSP Gabriel Ikechukwu, detailed his detectives to go after the suspect and he was arrested.

It was while interrogating him that one of the girls who is 17 years old confessed that the herbalist had already had carnal knowledge of her when she met him at the consulting room. She stated further that the herbalist threatened that she will died if she inform anybody.

The victim was immediately taken to General Hospital Oja Odan where the Doctor on duty confirmed that the girl has been defiled.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the state police command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the herbalist himself has confessed to the commission of the crime.

He added that the state Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole, has directed that the suspect be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Departments for further investigation and diligent prosecution.

2022 Commonwealth Games: Oyetola congratulates Osun-born Olarinoye for winning gold

Osun Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola has congratulated weightlifter, Adijat Olarinoye, for winning Nigeria’s first gold medal at the ongoing 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, United Kingdom.

Olarinoye, on Saturday night, emerged the overall best in the women’s 55kg category of the weightlifting event, after she lifted 92kg in the snatch, 111kg in clean and jerk, lifting 203kg in total to set a Games record for accumulated lifts.

4545 Students Sit For 2022 Science Schools Examination in Oyo State

Oyo State Government has conducted the 2022 Competitive Entrance Examination for about Four Thousand Five Hundred and Forty-five (4,545) candidates seeking admission into the Seven Science Schools and Igbo Elerin Grammar School in the State.

The Honourable Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Barr. Rahman Abiodun Abdu-Raheem, who monitored the exercise in the two Computer-Based Centres in Ibadan metropolis, namely: The Polytechnic Ibadan CBT Centre, and Yinbol College CBT Center, Orogun, Ibadan, described the exercise and the use of Information Communication Technology as highly commendable.

Speaking after the exercise today, he reiterated that the process was geared towards enhancing a qualitative educational system in the state, as emphasised in His Excellency, Engineer Seyi Makinde’s Education policy.

Abdu-Raheem explained that the registration of candidates for the examination was made free, in line with the Free Education Policy of the present administration.

The Honourable Commisioner confirmed that the Examination was hitch free in all the Computer-Based Test Centres in the State. He explained that the few teething problems experienced in the early hours were promptly addressed.

This, he said, was caused, majority by the inability of some candidates to use the computer properly.

However, the Commissioner emphasised the commitment of the government to promoting the use of Technology, in all levels of education in the State.

The Honourable Commisioner also expressed his happiness at the impressive turnout of candidates, while he equally commended the parents and guardians for their promptness.

Some parents who spoke with journalist expressed their delight over the exercise.

Retirement: Tegbe, Agboola, Ibarapa Kan, Others To Attend Ex-OYSCHST Provost, Siji Ganiyu’s Book Launch

As the stipulated date for the successful retirement celebration and book launch of Sanitarian Muritala Siji Ganiu, the immediate past Provost of Oyo State College of Health Science and Technology, Eleyele, Ibadan approaches, it was gathered that political bigwigs in Oyo State, successful businessmen and women, active and responsible civil servants are interested in attending the epoch-making program organized by the family and friends of Mr Ganiu Muritala in celebration of his meaningful years of active service with the Oyo State government.

Sanitarian Muritala Siji Ganiu retired as Provost of Oyo State College of Health Science and Technology Eleyele Ibadan. Prior to his retirement, he served in the Department of Disease Control and Department of Planning, Research, and Statistics meritoriously. In 2004, he was deployed to HIV/AIDS Programme Development Project (World Bank Assisted) as Monitoring and Evaluation Officer.

In 2008, Mr. Ganiyu was appointed the Project Manager, Oyo State HIV/AIDS Development Project (World Bank Assisted), the position he held till December 2013 when he was appointed Executive Secretary, Oyo State Agency for the Control of AIDS (SACA).

Having seen his meritorious achievements, he was redeployed back to the Ministry of Health as Executive Secretary, Health System Reform Programme, from where he was appointed the Acting Provost of Oyo State College of Health Science and Technology in 2015 and given substantive position of Provost in June 2018 for a tenure of four years, the position he held till last month when he retired from active service.

Dignitaries that are billed to grace the event include the PDP Senatorial Candidate for Oyo South, Mogaji Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe; former Commissioner for Local Government, Hon. Orisadeyi; including other invited guests.

Family and friends of Mr Ganiu Muritala are on their toes to keep everything in order towards the success of the program. The book is titled ‘The Vortex Of Fate (A Biography Of Siji Ganiu).’
