Old students of Loyola College, Ibadan, 1968/1972 set, on Saturday handed over an expansive and magnificent hall to the school management for the use of the college and the Old Boys Association.

Loyola College, Ibadan, is Governor Akeredolu alma-mater.

The Governor and his former School mates of 1968/1972 set donated the hall to the college to mark their 50 years of leaving the school and as part of their resolve to give back to their alma mater.

The magnificent Hall, named after Governor Akeredolu, was commissioned by the Ekiti State Governor and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Dr. John Kayode Fayemi.

The Set, known as VERITA “6872”, also remodeled the frontal school fence which was commissioned by the Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde.

Wife of the Governor, Chief Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, graced the event as well as family and friends of the Governor.

The edifice was blessed and unveiled by His Grace, Most Rev. Dr. Gabriel Abegunrin, the Catholic Archbishop of Ibadan Diocese.

Speaking at the event, Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, who appreciated his school mates for the honour done him, equally called on the association to sustain the good work and fellowship.

“This is my alma-mater, the school that moulded me, the school that I have all the pride in. Loyola College is everything to me. My mates and all of us sat together and decided to build this hall. And in their own wisdom, they chose to name it after me. I felt honoured. They have done so well for me and I thank them. So, today is my happiest day and I’m so happy about it,” Governor Akeredolu said.

He said without the college he would not have been something in life, describing Loyola as the best in nurturing future leaders.

The Governor also challenged students of the college to be ready to do better than the Old students.

In his welcome address, the President, Loyola College Old Boys Association (LOCOBA) 68/72 Set, Dr. Segun Oshin, said the school has produced accomplished and successful individuals across professions.

He added that the project was part of their contributions to their Alma mater and the development of education in the state.

He advised the school authority to put the edifice to good use to serve its purpose.

The President also called on the Oyo State Government to return the College to the original owners.

He added that management committee will be put in place for effective and sustainable management of the new facility.

In their separate goodwill messages, Dr Fayemi and Engr. Makinde expressed delight over the kind gesture of the Old Boys, adding that they have helped the school, the Catholic Church and the people of Oyo State at large.

Governor Fayemi appreciated the Old Boys, particularly Governor Akeredolu, for giving back to their Alma mater, urging others to emulate the gesture and play critical role in the development of education in the country.

On his part, Governor Makinde, who noted that Loyola College has always been there for him, appreciated the 68/72 Set for donating the edifice, even as he called for more assistance from old students, philanthropists and other organizations or associations to develop education.

On the return of the College to the original owners, Governor Makinde encouraged LOCOBA and the state Commissioner for Education to start the process, promising his government would do the needful.

He equally promised to fix the entrance road to the college to improve the infrastructure in the school.

The Nation President, Loyola College Old Boys’ Association, Prof Femi Ogunbiyi; the Catholic Archbishop of Ibadan Diocese, His Grace, Most Rev. Dr. Gabriel Abegunrin, and other speakers lauded the school for its giant strides.

The seventh day special prayer for the repose of the soul of the late Aseyin of Iseyin, Oba Dr. Abdulganiy Salawudeen Adekunle Oloogunebi Ajinese 1, by the Traditional Worshippers Association of Nigeria (TWAN), Iseyin Chapter, will hold on Sunday at Aseyin’s palace, Oja Oba, Iseyin.

A statement signed by the head of TWAN Iseyin Chapter, who is also the Oluwo Aseyin of Iseyin, Chief Ifasoji Oluwo, indicated that the seventh day ‘Ije Rites’ will involve sacrifices and prayers, which will culminate into a night curfew for further spiritual appeasements.

Oluwo Aseyin is the traditional Chief that oversees the rites of installation of a new king and burial of the one that joins his ancestors.

He said in the statement that at the departure of the monarch, it is essential to appease the land and fore-bearers of the community for the sake having a smooth succession process and a prosperous community and people.

“The seventh day ‘Ije Rites’ is for paving the way for our late Kabiyesi to have smooth transition to meet his ancestors, it is also for our community to continue to prosper as well as its people.”

The statement also hinted that residents are to adhere to a curfew for the night, as Oro masquerades will be out from Sunday evening till early the following day.

Oba Dr. Abdulganiy Salawudeen Adekunle Oloogunebi Ajinese 1, joined his ancestors on Sunday 24th, July 2022 at the age of 62 after ruling for fifteen years and was buried at the ‘Igbo Itan’ (Itan Royal Cemetery) on Monday.

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has mourned the passing of his Senior Special Assistant on Tertiary Education, Youth and Student Affairs, Omotayo Sanyaolu, who died today (Friday).

Sanyaolu, who was the immediate past Youth Leader of the Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), died on Friday after his involvement in an auto crash in Lagos.

Governor Sanwo-Olu in a condolence message issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Gboyega Akosile on Friday, expressed his heartfelt sympathies to the family of Omotayo Sanyaolu, who he described as a “loyal, committed, hardworking and dedicated co-worker in the Greater Lagos agenda.”

The Governor said the death of Sanyaolu is a personal loss to him and the Lagos State Government, as well as the deceased family, friends, Lagos APC and tertiary institutions within the state.

He said: “the death of a loved one is usually painful as it is irreparable but we must thank God that Omotayo Sanyaolu made a positive impact during his short but eventful lifetime. He served our party, APC passionately and meritoriously as a Youth Leader and contributed to its victory in many elections.

“Tayo as my Special Assistant on Tertiary Education, Youth and Student Affairs was very instrumental to the Greater Lagos agenda. He contributed positively to issues affecting the youths and students in the state.

“I sympathise with his widow, children, siblings, friends and the entire family as well as Lagos State and the APC family. I pray that God will grant the late Omotayo Sanyaolu eternal rest and grant the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss. We will miss Tayo.”

It was a Black Friday as Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu lost his Senior Special Assistant on Tertiary Education, Youths and Students Affairs, Omotayo Sanyaolu, in a lone auto crash at Maryland area of the state.

According to reports, the unfortunate accident occurred in the early hours on Friday, at about 4.01 AM, within the vicinity of Army Cantonment, Maryland, Ikeja

Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority, LASEMA, Dr, Femi Oke-Osanyantolu, confirmed the sad accident.

According to Oke-Osanyintolu,”Upon arrival at the scene it was discovered that a black Toyota Camry with registration number LAGH 32, while on top speed rammed into the Keystone Bank ATM located close to the Army Cantonment, Ikeja.

“Unfortunately, an adult male, Sanyanolu, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle died on impact and his remains were immediately bagged upon arrival of emergency responders.

“These have been handed over to the cantonment officer on duty (Officer Musa)

The affected vehicle was recovered with the aid of LASEMA’s light towing vehicle to a layby.”

My last moment with Sanyanolu- Special Adviser on Education, Wahab

Describing the tragic death as “very sad”, the Special Adviser on Education, Barrister Tokunbo Wahab, Permanent Secretary, Office of the Special Adviser on Education, Management and the entire staff of Office of Special Adviser on Education, OSAE, regret to announce the sudden death of Sanyaolu.

“Mr. Sanyaolu and I worked till the late hours of yesterday, Thursday, July 28, before he was involved in a ghastly motor accident on his way home, which claimed his life. May his gentle soul rest in peace.”

APC mourns

Also, spokesman of the All Progressives Congress, APC,Lagos State chapter. Seye Oladejo, described the death as “painful.”

Oladejo, in a statement, read, “Lagos State APC regrets to announce the untimely passage of the former state youth leader, Omotayo Sanyaolu who was until his demise the Senior Special Assistant to the State Governor on tertiary education, youths and students affairs.

Tayo was a committed party youth leader who proved himself as a great mobiliser and excelled in all his assignments.

“He will be sorely missed especially at a time like this by the entire party, family, friends and well-wishers. May his soul Rest In Peace.”
