Those illegally employed by former Governor Gboyega Oyetola are no longer in the employment of the state government and no amount of blackmail can change that reality, the State Government has announced.
Reacting to the pocket of demonstration by members of the All Progressives Congress(APC) employed towards the tail end of the last government, the State Government in a statement by the Special Assistant, Community Communications to Governor Ademola Adeleke, Mr Tunde Busari, noted that Mr Oyetola deliberately padded the state payroll with APC members to create stage for deeper financial crisis, conflict and disharmony.
” Those engaging in demonstrations are APC members smuggled into the state payroll by former Governor Oyetola. By virtue of the Executive Order issued by Mr Governor, those illegally employed remain sacked and are no longer staff of the state government. No amount of demonstration and blackmail can change that reality.
” We have the details of plan by APC to deploy its disengaged members for demonstration. However, the people of Osun state are in the know of the whole situation especially the several warnings by the PDP while in opposition. We warned against colluding with Mr Oyetola during those last days when the former Governor was issuing employment letter despite the State’s inability to pay staff salaries.
” Those APC members are now playing the script. They have failed from the beginning as this administration will not bow to unjustified demands from those who collaborated to deepen Osun financial woes”, the statement noted.
An Ondo State Magistrates’ Court sitting in Akure has remanded a man, Funmilayo Asojo, in a custodial centre for allegedly killing a peacemaker, Bamiduro Adewole, with a stone.
It was gathered that the victim was killed while settling a rift between the defendant and a man who owed him (Asojo) N700 on December 28, 2022, at Ute town, in the Owo Local Government Area of the state.
The 59-year-old, who was a security guard in a public primary school, was allegedly hit with a stone in the head by the defendant.
He was later rushed to a hospital where he died two days after.
According to the prosecution, the offence contravenes sections 319 and 355 of the Criminal Code Law, Cap. 37 Vol. II Laws of Ondo State, 2006.
The police prosecutor, Augustine Omhenemhen, urged the court to remand the defendant in the Olokuta Custodial Centre pending the outcome of advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.
In his ruling, the Magistrate, R.O. Yakubu, ordered the defendant to be remanded in prison and adjourned the case till March 19, 2023, for mention.
Nollywood actress, Wumi Toriola, has finally reacted to rumours concerning her marriage, confirming that she has separated from her husband.
She addressed allegations that she was violent during her marriage, stating that such allegations were false.
Toriola wrote, “There has been a lot of media attention on me lately regarding my marriage.
“Yes, it is true the marriage is over. We have gone out separate ways for over a year now. It didn’t work out. There was no need for drama, hence my reason for not letting my fans know.”
The Osun Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has announced Friday, January 27, 2023, for delivery of judgment in the appeal filed by former Osun governor, Adegboyega Oyetola.
The announcement, contained in a court paper dated, January 24, 2023, and signed by the tribunal secretariat, was obtained by DAILY POST on Tuesday in Osogbo.
Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress, APC, had challenged the victory of Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the July 16, 2022 governorship election in the state.
INEC had declared Adeleke the winner of the election, having polled 403, 271 votes against 375,027 polled by Oyetola.
Oyetola and the Osun APC, ODUDUWA NEWS recalls had on August 5, 2022, petitioned the tribunal against the outcome of the election conducted by INEC.
Oyetola and the APC were challenging the election results from 749 polling units across 10 local government areas of the state for various alleged electoral malpractice, especially over-voting.
The local governments challenged were from the Osun West senatorial district of the state.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate Bola Tinubu was key to the transformation of Lagos State, according to Kashim Shettima.
“When Asiwaju became the governor of Lagos, you and I know that the fear of Lagos for the average northerner was the beginning of wisdom,” the APC vice presidential candidate said during a Lagos State banquet for President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday.
“Lagos was a super slum but because of the quality of this man’s ideas, Lagos is now the third-largest economy in Africa. From N600m, Lagos government is now generating N61b every month as the internally generated revenue, and Lagos is now projected to be the third-largest economy by the end of the decade.”
The former Borno State governor, who says Tinubu can bring his wealth of experience to bear if elected as Nigeria’s president next month, called on voters to queue behind the APC flagbearer.
‘Debt of Gratitude’
According to him, Tinubu deserves applause from the northern region. He said the former Lagos governor gave shelter to politicians from the area when they were facing political witch hunt.
Shettima listed such persons as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and an ex-chief of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Nuhu Ribadu. Asides from them, the APC vice presidential candidate said Tinubu’s backing of Buhari in the 2015 and 2019 elections is something the region won’t forget.
“Those of us from the north owe him a debt of gratitude for supporting our leader President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2015 and 2019 general elections,” he added
A pop singer, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as ‘Portable’ has released an album entitled ‘Kuku Do Ritual’. Meanwhile an Islamic human rights organisation, the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), has condemned the album for having the potential to encourage ritual killing and misleading Nigerian youth.
MURIC’s statement was released on Monday, 23rd January, 2023 by its director, Professor Ishaq Akintola.
The statement reads :
“Popular pop singer, Habeeb Okikiola, has released a new album under the title ‘Kuku Do Ritual’ in which part of the lyrics say, ‘Kuku do ritual. If you do ritual you go die. If you no do ritual you go die. Kuku do ritual’.
“We find this song disgusting, detestable and egregious. It is a brazen assault on Nigerian and African values. Portable’s latest song has reduced human life to the level of ordinary ants that can be stamped out under human feet without qualms and without consequences. It is an open invitation to criminality. It makes mockery of law and order. It is an open disrespect for human life.
“This song has the capacity to influence our young ones in a negative manner. It is also capable of destroying the future of the youth. Something must be done urgently. Already, there are several reports of young ones engaging in the shameful act for the purpose of getting rich in their tender ages.
“Three teenagers were caught attempting to kill a 13 year old girl for money ritual in Bayelsa State in January 2022.
“Four teenagers living in Abeokuta, Ogun State, killed the girlfriend of one of them for money ritual. In fact there is a plethora of ritual killings among young Yahoo practioners in the country.
“MURIC calls on all men of goodwill, all mothers in Nigeria, Muslim and Christian leaders to rise against the madness called Yahoo Yahoo and ritual killings among young ones whose ambassador has just released this horrendous song in their praise. ‘Kuku Do Ritual’ is nothing but a eulogy to glorify and elevate the names of ritual killers to high heaven.
“This album calls for immediate action from Nigeria’s traditional rulers. They are the custodians of our tradition. We therefore take our cry for help to these royal fathers to speak up on this sacriledgious song released by ‘Portable’. They must put pressure on the authorities to stop the circulation and broadcast of this album on any radio or television station and through any medium whatsoever.
“We invite the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), the Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) and the Performing Musicians’ Association of Nigeria (PMAN) to take necessary action with military dispatch.
“We see no reason why the security agencies should not investigate the author of this most embarrassing and irrational song to explain the number of rituals in which he has indulged. A scape goat must be made of this album and its artist before the trend escalates.
“Nobody should hide behind artistic priviledge, poetic licence or freedom of expression to launch such barbaric offensive on our culture, our norms and our values. This is beyond free speech. It is criminal speech. It is incitement to commit murder. It is instigation to criminality. It is a bestial invasion on decency and good manners. It is Bohemian.”
Respected Islamic scholar and author, Sheikh Najeemdeen Adegbite Binuyo is dead.
Sheikh Binuyo, a renowned author, scholar, and well-respected broadcast journalist died a few hours into Tuesday, 24 January 2023. He was aged 96.
Sheikh Binuyo’s death was announced by the Lagos Mainland Muslim Community with details of his burial scheduled for Tuesday, 24 January 2023.
Sheikh Binuyo is survived by his highly devoted wife, Alhaja Sidiquat Binuyo, and children one of whom is the former Deputy Chief of Staff to the erstwhile Governor of Osun State, Adegboyega Oyetola, Prince Abdullahi Adeyanju Binuyo.
The mandatory Islamic funeral prayers will be performed on his corpse at the Lagos State Secretariat Central Mosque, Tuesday, 24 January 2023 after the afternoon prayer, Salatul Zuhr while burial holds at the Lagos Mainland Muslim Community Cemetery at Ofada, Ogun State.

President Muhammadu Buhari has arrived Lagos State to commission some projects.
The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu had earlier notified the public of the invitation extended to the president to come to Lagos for the commissioning of Deep Seaport, the Lagos Rice Mill, Imota, 18.75killometers Eleko-Epe rigid pavement six lane Expressway, First Phase of the Blue Light Rail from Mile Two to Marina and the John Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture and History.
According to the governor, the president will be on a two-day working visit and his first port of call was the Lekki Deep Seaport.
Buhari had commissioned one of the project, Lekki Deep Seaport after inspecting the guard of honour at the parade ground.
It was gathered that the other projects shall be commissioned by the President before his departure.
The Senate has summoned the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode Adebowale, over an alleged assault, conspiracy and victimisation of a senior female lecturer, Dr Adenike Ogunshe, of the Department of Microbiology.
The Senate, through its Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, issued the directive during a panel hearing in Abuja.
The Chairman of the committee, Senator Ayo Akinyelure, noted that Ogunshe had written a petition to the Senate, asking for reinstatement after her appointment was terminated by the institution about seven years ago.
Ogunshe, in the petition, pleaded with the Senate to compel the University authorities, to obey a court judgment that had directed that she should be reinstated.
The lecturer claimed that the termination of her appointment had deprived her of the opportunity of becoming the first female professor of microbiology in Nigeria.
She, therefore, urged the Senate to invite the Vice Chancellor and the Registrar of the University for questioning.
The committee chairman at the last panel sitting read part of her petition where it noted that Ogunshe alleged that there was a grand conspiracy against her.
Akinyelure said, “This woman alleged that there was a grand conspiracy by the University against her person; her career; her existence and human rights due to the controversial appointment of one Dr Onilude as Acting Head of the Department between 2005 and 2006.
“She requested that the Senate should look into the matter and among other things, urge the University to stop further victimization, dehumanisation, and physical assault, against her.
“She also urged us to investigate the controversial appointment of Dr Onilude as Professor at the University of Ibadan, which remains contestable. Dr Adenike A.O. Ogunshe and the authorities of the University of Ibadan were invited to appear before the Committee on December 7, 2021.
“Dr. Ogunshe appeared and made a presentation while a representative of UI, Barr. Adegoke Adekunle told the Committee that he came to request another date to enable the University to make a presentation.”
Akinyelure lamented that several invitations extended to the authorities of the University to appear before his panel had yielded no positive results.
He said the Senate might take appropriate sanctions against the Vice Chancellor if he fails to appear in person before the panel at the next panel.
The Senator added, “We are warning the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan to respect the Nigerian Senate as a critical democratic institution. This woman would have been the first professor of Microbiology in the whole of Nigeria but she was denied.
“If the authorities of the University of Ibadan fail to appear before the Senate this week and explain why this woman should not be reinstated, we would recommend sanctions against the institution.
“The woman went to court to challenge her termination of appointment and the Court voided the action of the University.
“The authorities did not appeal against the verdict or apply for a stay of execution five months after the verdict was delivered.
“The VC should respect the laws of the land by obeying the judgment of the court and reinstating the woman. Failure to do so would amount to contravening the Nigerian constitution.”
Akinyelure further explained that the sanction on the institution would include withholding of funds to the premier university.
He said, “The Senate might not hesitate to direct the Federal Ministry of Finance to stop releasing money to the authorities of the University of Ibadan to fund its 2023 budget if they fail to obey the laws of the land.
“On this note therefore, the Senate is inviting the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan to come and throw light on the actions being taken to reinstate the woman that would be the first professor of microbiology in Nigeria.”
“They used politics against her and unceremoniously, threw her out of office.
“She has been sacked now for the past seven years,” Akinyelure added.
Barely few days the Peoples Democratic Party PDP has suspended son of the former governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose and other notable members of the party over allegations of anti-party, the caretaker committee has been constituted.
The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has, on behalf of the National Executive Committee (NEC), pursuant to Sections 29(2)(b) and 31(2)(e) of the Constitution of the party (as amended in 2017), approved the composition of the Ekiti State PDP Caretaker Committee to run the affairs of the Ekiti State Chapter of the Party for a period not exceeding 90 days (3 months).
