The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the release of the kidnapped former deputy vice-chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Prof. Adigun Agbaje.

Recall, that Agbaje and other travellers, including two female students of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, were kidnapped by gunmen in military uniform around Dominica University on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Friday night.

The abductors had reportedly contacted Agbaje’s family, demanding a ransom of N50 million for his release, while they demanded N10 million each to release the two students.

However, confirming Agbaje’s release on Monday in a statement, the police said the former DVC was undergoing debriefing.

The Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Osifeso Adewale confirmed the release to newsmen, said, “He has been released. Currently, I am in a management meeting I just came to pick up your call.” He, however, did not provide further details but promised to answer further questions later.

It was gathered that two students of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, identified as Olayemi Adejare and Oluwatobi Orekoya and Agbaje, were picked up on Sunday night at a location near Sat Guru Maharaji area on Ibadan-Lagos Expressway.

Meanwhile, ODUDUWA NEWS could not independently ascertain whether a ransom was paid as details of Agbaje’s release were still sketchy.
