Ondo Election: ZLP sets to nominate Ondo Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi as candidate

It will be recalled that Oduduwa News made it known to the public last week that the Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Agboola Ajayi has perfected his plan to move from PDP to Zenith Labour Party ZLP.

Today, the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) headquarters has cleared the Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Agboola Ajayi, to contest as the party’s candidate in the October 10 governorship election.

One of those who is said to have endorsed Mr Ajayi is a former governor of the state, Olusegun Mimiko, who gave him some conditions to be met.

Mr Mimiko told Mr Ajayi that he must be willing to complete some of his abandoned policies and also pick deputy governorship candidate from his camp.

ODUDUWA NEWS gathered that Mr Ajayi was cleared to contest by the ZLP national executive council last week.

Confirming the development, the deputy governor’s spokesperson, Tope Okeowo, said “he has been cleared and no going back on that again. He is ZLP candidate”

He also confirmed that a formal defection from the PDP would be done before the end of the week.

Mr Ajayi’s name would be used to replace the current governorship candidate of ZLP, Rotimi Benjamin, this newspaper learnt.

Such substitution is still allowed now based on the timetable released by the electoral commission, INEC.

Schools Reopening: JAMB Considers New Date For Admissions

School reopening: JAMB considers new date for admissions

Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), said that it is considering new date for the commencement of 2020 admission exercise due to recent changes in academic calendar for secondary students, particularly those in exiting classes.

JAMB said it had earlier announced August 22nd as the date for commencement of 2020 admission exercise, but will meet with stakeholders on Monday to brainstorm on the possibility of new date that would better accommodate the vagaries of the COVID-19 pandemic.

JAMB spokesman, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, in a statement released in Abuja, on Sunday, said that “as a responsive organisation whose mantra is equity and fairness, the Board desires that every aspiring candidate who had taken its 2020 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) be given equal opportunity to compete with peers for the available openings.

“This is the reason for another meeting with all the institutions with a view to amending the earlier and mutually-agreed date for the conduct of Post-UTME screening and other processes.

“As intellectuals, it is incumbent on JAMB and the various tertiary institutions to always provide practical solutions to perceived challenges for the smooth running of the sector without being prompted by the government. Such solutions, when arrived at, would then be forwarded to the relevant Ministries or Agencies for further inputs and necessary approvals.

“It’s in view of this that the Board is working to pre-empt any unpalatable situation that may arise if institutions conduct their admissions without accommodating the vast number of candidates that are about to take their O’level examinations.”

Fabian disclosed that, consequently, the Board would, at the meeting, be looking at the possibility of ensuring that the various institutions either delay or prolong their screening exercises to accommodate candidates who will be taking the 2020 O’level examinations.

Babajide Sanwo-olu vows to end Apapa gridlock

In a statement released via his Twitter handle which read thus:

“The unabating gridlock caused by the trucks in Apapa is very disturbing. On an inspection tour around projects today, we intend to engage with the Federal Government to allow the immediate use of the 700-truck capacity Lilypond Terminal to take the trailers off the road.

In addition to this, We are making available 30 hectares of land at Ijora to build an additional park for trucks. I also took time to personally inspect projects meant to improve traffic around Constain, Iganmu, Apapa and Mile 2 areas.

We are addressing the chaos created by the indiscriminate parking of trailers along the routes. We have to set out our activities in a methodical order and see how we can redevelop Apapa. There is already an extensive road construction project going on in Apapa.

Liverpool and Creek roads have already been completed. By October, all the road network leading in and out of the port area would be opened up for public use.

We have assessed the issues and a permanent solution will be achieved.”

Southern Kaduna Killings: Protesters troop out in Lagos

There has been growing concern on the mass killings going on in Southern Kaduna.

Some people have been protesting against the mass killings going on in in Kaduna State. Yesterday, some Nigerians troop out in Lagos, Abuja and Kaduna to protest against the mass killings that have been going on in Southern Kaduna without the intervention of security agencies to put a stop to the barbaric act.

It will be recalled that over two years, people living in Southern Kaduna have been subjected to terror from Fulani bandits who unleash terror on them.

Last week, more than 30 people were murdered in a broad day light in Southern Kaduna. Some Activists have been calling on FG to come to the aide of the people living in the Southern Kaduna because it seems the governor of the State cannot handle the security matter in the State.

Kashamu: Fayose tackles Obasanjo, says his end will soon come

The former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose has condemned the statement credited to the former President Olusegun Obasanjo on the death of Buruji Kashamu

Fayose said, “It is regrettable that Obasanjo could say what he said about Buruji Kashamu after his death and when he can no longer question him. Why didn’t he say that when Kashamu was alive?”

Kashamu, who also represented Ogun East Senatorial District between 2015 and 2019 at the National Assembly, will be buried on Sunday [today] in accordance with Islamic rites at his Ijebu-Igbo hometown.

The lawmaker had faced extradition to the United States for alleged drug trafficking until his death.

But in a message titled, ‘Letter of condolence,’ addressed to Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, Obasanjo, who condoled with the family of the deceased and the state as a whole, also alleged that Kashamu used the instruments of law and politics to evade justice.

“The life and history of the departed have lessons for those of us on this side of the veil.

“Senator Esho Jinadu (Buruji Kashamu) in his lifetime used the manoeuvre of law and politics to escape from facing justice on alleged criminal offence in Nigeria and outside Nigeria.

“But no legal, political, cultural, social or even medical manoeuver could stop the cold hand of death when the creator of all of us decides that the time is up,” the former military head of state said, while praying that Allah forgive Kashamu’s sins.

Opposition Plotting To Sponsor Smear Campaign Against Me – Akeredolu

In a statement released today by the Executive Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu via his official twitter handle read below:

A smear campaign aimed at discrediting the Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, SAN, is already at an advanced stage.

The plot is being sponsored, as usual, by a desperate politician whose next political leaning in readiness for the October 10 governorship election still remains shrouded in a web of conspiratorial intrigues.

Among others, this desperate politician has packaged lies and inciting thought lines in his own imagination to be planted as stories in about three national dailies beginning from tomorrow, Sunday, August 8, 2020.

Specifically, the story lines outlined for publication include but not limited to the following:

..that party chieftains are not happy with Governor Akeredolu, having allegedly reneged on some conditions after winning the party primary.

..that the governor allegedly dribbled party leaders by announcing Lucky Aiyedatiwa as his running mate.
It was said to have been agreed that the aggrieved members would choose the running mate.

…that such aggrieved members are demanding the dissolution of the current state executive and that a caretaker committee should be constituted to run the affairs of the party pending the time a fresh congress would be held.

…that civil Servants are also said to be angry with the Governor on the emergence of Mr. Dare Aragbaye as the Head of Service, having allegedly retired about nine Permanent Secretaries to appoint Mr. Aragbaye as HoS.

…that Mr. Aragbaye is holding the position of a Permanent Secretary, Director of Finance and Administration in the Governor’s Office after the retirement of Prince Ajibade Ogunoye, the present Olowo of Owo?

It is imperative to state that these tissues of lies are not unusual, especially in the light of the frustration that has persistently challenged the treacherous moves of such persons behind the lies and blackmail.

Governor Akeredolu is committed to the welfare of the people, especially civil servants whose lives were reduced to nothing prior to the advent of the current administration in the State. These civil servants cannot forget in a hurry the level of incurable poverty they were subjected before now.

It should be further noted that the post primary scenario within the APC has been that of harmony and cohesion. The leaders of the party, including very serious aspirants, are on the same page with the Governor to confront these political mercenaries who have chosen the path of perfidy.

Governor Akeredolu will not be distracted by the activities and antics of those who have become victims of their incurable desperation and lust for power with tainted integrity and demonstrated incompetence.
