Oil Exploration Activities Advance on Eba Island as Ogun Moves Closer to Oil-Producing Status

Oil exploration activities on Eba Island in Ogun Waterside Local Government Area have recorded significant progress following the grant of Frontier Exploration Status to Ogun State by the Federal Government through the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources.

As part of the ongoing exploration programme, key preliminary stages have been successfully completed, including the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), Bathymetric, Topographical and Geotechnical Surveys. The project has also secured all necessary statutory approvals from the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) and the Federal Ministry of Environment.

Further advancing the project, civil works have commenced on site, while well intervention and re-entry equipment have been mobilized, signaling the transition to the next phase of exploration activities.

The Ogun State Government said the initiative is aimed at unlocking the hydrocarbon potential within the state’s frontier acreage, creating employment opportunities, attracting investment, and generating additional revenue for economic growth and development.

The government reiterated its commitment to ensuring the successful execution of the project, noting that the exploration programme represents a major step towards positioning Ogun State as a key player in Nigeria’s energy sector.
