Ogogo Battles Stage-Four Cancer, Daughters Cry Out for Urgent Medical Help

Veteran Nollywood actor and filmmaker Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, is battling stage-four cancer, according to emotional appeals made by his daughters.

The development became public on Monday after members of the actor’s family took to social media to seek urgent medical assistance for the veteran actor.

One of his daughters, Lima Taiwo, said the family’s situation had become critical, alleging that hospitals had declined to continue treating her father. She appealed to medical professionals, hospitals and well-meaning Nigerians who could help the family find appropriate care for the actor.

Another daughter, Kira Taiwo, also disclosed that her father had been diagnosed with stage-four cancer and appealed for assistance in finding specialists capable of managing his condition. The family stressed that their immediate need was medical intervention and expert guidance rather than financial donations.

According to the family, they only became aware of the seriousness of the actor’s condition about three weeks ago. His daughters said his outward appearance had not initially suggested the severity of the illness, making the discovery particularly distressing for the family.

The specific type of cancer affecting Taiwo Hassan has not been publicly disclosed, and neither the hospital involved nor his management has, as of the latest reports, released a detailed independent statement on his diagnosis and treatment.

Meanwhile, a medical doctor, Olusina Ajidahun, has offered clarification regarding the family’s claim that hospitals were refusing to treat the actor. He suggested that the situation may relate to palliative care and the limits of certain treatment options at an advanced stage of cancer, cautioning against interpreting the situation simply as hospitals abandoning a patient.

The news has triggered an outpouring of concern from colleagues, fans and members of the Nigerian entertainment industry. Actor Femi Adebayo has also appealed for medical assistance and specialist connections to help the veteran actor’s family explore available treatment options.

Taiwo Hassan, one of the most recognisable figures in Yoruba-language Nollywood, has enjoyed a long career as an actor, producer and filmmaker. His recent appearance at the 2026 Ojude Oba Festival in Ijebu-Ode, where he appeared energetic and in good spirits, has also resurfaced following the revelation about his health.

The family is now appealing to medical experts and healthcare facilities with experience in advanced cancer care to assist them in identifying appropriate options for the actor.

At the time of this report, there has been no credible report of Taiwo Hassan’s death. The reports concern his serious illness and his family’s appeal for urgent medical assistance.
