Mass Resignations in Makinde’s Administration Not a Surprise, Says Oyo Information Commissioner

The Oyo State Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, has said the resignation of the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Barrister Ayobami Ojo, from Governor Seyi Makinde’s cabinet did not come as a surprise.

Oyelade stated this while reacting to Ojo’s departure from the state executive council, noting that while some supporters of the governor might feel betrayed by the development, Makinde himself has a sense of déjà vu.

In a statement, the Information Commissioner praised Makinde for what he described as his ability to remain firm in his convictions despite sustained intimidation and pressure, even when some of his colleagues allegedly capitulated against their personal will.

“Never in the annals of this country has a Governor stood his ground, maintained his composure and conviction under simmering and unfettered intimidation even while his colleagues capitulated against their personal will,” Oyelade said.

He added that Makinde was sending a clear message about the importance of conscience and truth in public leadership.

“The clear message that Governor Seyi Makinde is sending to all of us is that conscience is an open wound and only truth can heal it,” the commissioner stated.

Oyelade further said the governor was reassuring Nigerians, particularly residents of Oyo State, that courage and honesty were necessary at a time when, according to him, political victory built on lies, empty promises, cajoling and deceit was approaching its end.

The resignation has added a new dimension to developments within the Makinde administration, with attention likely to focus on the circumstances surrounding Ojo’s departure and its potential political implications.
