Breaking: Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, Joins Ancestors At 91

The Awujale and spiritual leader of Ijebuland, Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Kayode Adetona, has passed away at the age of 91.

The highly respected monarch, who ruled for over 60 years, reportedly d+ed on Sunday, July 13, 2025—just hours after news broke of the death of his close friend, former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Oba Adetona ascended the throne in 1960 and went on to become one of Nigeria’s longest-reigning and most revered traditional rulers. Celebrated for his cultural influence, political insight, and unwavering integrity, his passing marks the close of a historic chapter in the Ijebu kingdom and traditional leadership across the nation.

While official statements from the Ogun State Government and the Awujale’s palace were still pending at the time of this report, sources close to the royal family confirmed that the monarch d+ed peacefully at a private hospital in Lagos.
