Armed Robbers Invade Estate With POS in Ibadan, Cart Way Properties

A gang of armed robbers numbering about 20 on Sunday night invaded once peaceful Alaafia Estate in Orogun around 11 pm and operated till around 2 am on Monday dispossessing residents of valuables running into millions of naira.

The robbers who made first appearance at the Estate about two weeks ago when they robbed a Superintendent of Police and three flats were said to have mobilised more gang members in a more deadly robbery where they carted away money, laptops, mobile phones and ATM card after obtaining their Personal Identification Numbers (PIN) with the use of POS.

The robbers were said to have gained entry into the Estate through the recently dredged Carnal linking Barika, Agbowo, and Orogun.

Armed with machete, Guns and other dangerous weapons, the daredevil robbers divided themselves into the Estate and robbed concurrently in different houses.

According to sources, no fewer than twenty families were direct victims of the robbers with one person sustaining machete cuts on his left hand while his wife was said to have been beaten with a machete.

A resident said: “as they battle to break into the house, one of them was telling the new ones they recruited to join them this time around that somebody was peeping through the window from the house. They said we would see hell if they break into the house if we don’t willingly open the door”.

However, the Ojoo Police Division were alerted and mobilised to the Estate.

The robbers, on hearing the police sirens were said to have alerted one another saying, “big daddy (police) are here; won ti mbo, e ja ke lo” and they fled the scene.

The police were said to have recovered four machetes and a locally made pistol around the scene of the robbery.

Gov. Makinde Gives Approval To Recruitment of 2,000 Non-Teaching Staff, 500 Health Personnel

Oyo State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde has announced that an executive order has been signed for the recruitment of over 500 health personnel in Oyo state.

This is as the Governor said that an additional 2,000 non-teaching staff will be recruited to complement the 5,000 teaching staff recently employed by the state government.

The Governor announced this earlier today at the Second Year in Office Thanksgiving Service held at St Peter’s Anglican Cathedral Church, Aremo, Ibadan, the state capital city.

He said, “It has been 2 years. On May 29, 2019, I was sworn in as the Executive Governor of Oyo State.”

“The major thing that we promised the people of Oyo State was that we will tackle poverty in Oyo state’s society.”

“I am happy to report that, in our main objective to tackle poverty, we are making steady progress.”

“As regards our 4 main objectives which are education, health, economic development, and security, we have been making great progress.”

“On education, we promised the people free and more quality education for students and pupils. I’m happy to report that in the past 2 years, pupils and students in Oyo State do not pay a kobo as school fees. I’m also happy to report that despite the economic crisis in Nigeria, Oyo State employed 5,000 quality teachers for our children and we are in the process of recruiting an additional 2,000 non-teaching staff to join them.”

“Within these two years, the number of out-of-school children in Oyo State reduced by almost 54,000. These 54,000 children are back in classrooms.”

“I pledged that LAUTECH will become fully owned by Oyo state and right now LAUTECH belongs to Oyo State fully.”

“In the health sector, I said that in all the 351 wards in Oyo state, there must be a functional, well-equipped primary health care centre.”

“299 of them are under renovation and remodelling right now and the money to be used for this has been set aside.”

“Last week, I signed the executive order for the recruitment of over 500 health personnel in Oyo state.”

The Governor also spoke about the current insecurity plaguing the country and pledged to do more to combat insecurity in Oyo State. He urged Oyo State residents to report any suspicious activity in their communities to the appropriate authorities and also to dial the state’s toll-free line, 615.

He said, “The provost challenged me right now on the security challenges facing the state. He wants us to do more and we will.”

“But, here is a question I want us all to ruminate on and one which I keep posing to everyone, can we imagine Oyo state without Amotekun? Amotekun is a creation of this administration.”

“We will continue to do more in the area of security but we all have our parts to play in combating insecurity in Oyo State. Anyone that sees anything strange in their environment should report immediately using the toll-free number, 615. It is functional and response is immediate.”

“In the next two to three weeks, we will still provide more equipment to the security agencies to enable them to carry out their duties in a better and more efficient manner.”

Yoruba Can Actualize Oduduwa Republic Without War – Seun Kuti

Seun Kuti, son of Afrobeat legend, Fela Kuti, has suggested a way the Yoruba nation can actualize Oduduwa Republic.

Kuti said the Southwest can break away from Nigeria through a referendum.

The singer, who spoke during a live video on Instagram, insisted that Nigeria can be divided without killings and war.

According to Kuti: “England just left the EU recently; did they fight anyone before leaving? The Scottish are agitating to leave England. Why are they not saying they want to fight war before they can leave England? Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying these people don’t fight but understand the narrative.

“Referendums now put the decision in the hands of the people.

“If Nigeria truly wants to divide we must pose it in a referendum program, yes or no vote to all the people in this country so that we can make our argument for and against and the people would be carried along every step of the way because we will need them to make the final decision.

“If the Yoruba people want to leave Nigeria, it is not overnight. Anybody wey tell you say Yoruba people can leave Nigeria over a ten-year period, that person is trying to put you in another long jump. Our problem needs like fifty years of dedication to see front before everything balance.”

“Even before we do constitutional conferences, democratically in any country, before you do a constitutional review, you must put it to the people, the people will now decide a yes or no vote for the review before you carry your review forward.

“But when only a handful of people want to make decisions for hundreds of millions of people, this is what you now get. Everybody is only discussing one angle, one way of separating Nigeria which will kill millions of us in the name of separating Nigeria.”

Killing of Ahmed Gulak, a plot by enemies of Nigeria to instigate Northerners Against Igbo – Akeredolu

The news of the death of an APC chieftain and former Special Adviser on Political Matters in the last Administration, Ahmed Gulak, in Owerri, Imo State, this morning, is very shocking and disturbing. The details of the tragic incident remain sketchy. A press statement credited to the Imo State Police Command claimed that some bandits were responsible for the gruesome murder of a man who was a visitor to the State. This is unacceptable.

This is one murder too many. It is senseless and wicked. The perpetrators of this heinous act are enemies of this country. This contrivance is meant to mislead, confuse and destroy. It bears the unmistakable, despicable imprints of fifth columnists bent on setting the country on the path of conflagration. These criminals must not be allowed to succeed.

We want to use this medium to express our solidarity with our brother Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma. We admonish him and other Governors in the South Eastern States to brace up, and confront the current security challenge to put an end to the bloodbath in the land. The enemies of the people always employ the weapon of fear to create disaffection in the polity.

This cowardly act is calculated to instigate Nigerians against each other, particularly Northerners, against the Igbo living outside the South East. We must confront the enemies of the people with a view to neutralizing them. This is definitely not the time for political correctness. Banditry should not be allowed to subvert the legitimacy of the current Government at all levels.

We call on all security agencies to collaborate with a view to unveiling the criminal elements sponsoring and undertaking terrorist acts. they must be punished, severely.

May the soul of our departed brother, Ahmed Gulak rest in perfect peace.

Yoruba Nation Agitators Engage Customs In An Attempt To Forcefully Open Idi-Iroko Border

There was pandemonioum and chaos as agitators for the Yoruba Nation, on Saturday, forcefully reopened the Idi-Iroko land border in Ogun State, which had been closed by the Federal Government since 2019.

A video posted by self-acclaimed Yoruba freedom fighter, Sunday Igboho, on his personal blog, ‘Sunday Adeyemo Igboho TV,’ showed the agitators in their hundreds storming the Idi-Iroko area in Ipokia Local Government Area of the state and forcefully opened its land borders between Nigeria and Benin Republic, urging the people to begin doing their businesses.

Though the agitators were engaged by operatives of the Nigerian Customs Service (NSC), and men of the Immigration Service, who tried to repel them, the video also showed where a gun was snatched from an Immigration officer.

In the video clip, one of the agitators is seen shooting sporadically into the air while the crowd cheered him in admiration.

Different voices were also heard in the background calling on soldiers and other security agents to come out and engage them in a shootout, while others were seen destroying the gates at the border, while screaming:

“We have opened the border at Idi-Iroko. Come out and do your business!”

The Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun 1 Area Command, Hammed Oloyede, who confirmed the incident, however said his men successfully repelled the Yoruba Nation agitators while denying any attack on the officers.

“There was no attack on our patrol bases or checkpoints. Those guys were just doing their own. They tried to attack one patrol point, but it was repelled. The situation is under control. There is no problem,” Oloyede said.

While commending the ‘freedom fighters’ at the end of the video, Igboho said more of such actions are in the pipeline as his group is determined to break away from Nigeria.

Igboho also accused the Federal Government of shutting down the land borders in the South-West while those in the North were open.

Police Secondary School To Be Established in Lagos – Sanwo-Olu

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has promised to build a secondary school for the Police in the State.

He made the promise on Saturday while receiving delegation of the Police Wives Association of Nigeria (POWA) led by its President and Wife of the Inspector General of Police, Hajia Hajara Alkali, during a courtesy visit at the Lagos House, Marina.

The Governor who received Hajia Alkali and her entourage in the company of the Lagos State First Lady, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, said government will continue to support Lagos Police Command and officers’ wives in the State.

He said: “We will give Lagos Police Command more support. We will continue to lend all the infrastructure they need to them. We will continue to work with them. There are so many things we are going to support the Lagos Police Command with. And once the men can have all what they require to work well, certainly it will also affect their wives at home positively.

“We are doing so much and we are willing to double what we are currently doing. We usually have a special place for Police Officers wives; for widows and even those who are not widows. We want to encourage them and support them so that they can be very valuable supporters to their husbands.

“Not only will we be supporting them with empowerment, we will also deliberately look for ways to improve them in skills acquisition and empower them through the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation; Ministry of Wealth Creation and Ministry of the Sustainable Developments Goals.

“In respect to your request for a Police Secondary School in Lagos, we will try and not just give you land, we will give the land and also support you with the building. We will try and look for where is most adequate. Lagos is a small State, so land is always a challenge. But, wherever we find it, we will try and take it up so that it can accommodate a lot more students.”

Also speaking, Lagos First Lady said the incumbent administration is ready to do more for Police officers and their wives in the State, adding that government will continue to lift women up in Lagos State.

“I am happy that our score card is reading pass mark. We are happy to do more. Lagos State is here to encourage all the women. We know that quite a lot happened last year and quite a lot of our officers are a bit demoralised. But to God be the glory, 2021 is a better year.

“We are going to continue to lift each other up, encourage ourselves as women because we know we are the gateway to our families,” Dr. Sanwo-Olu said.

Speaking earlier, Hajia Alkali, who was excited by the hospitality she enjoyed during her first official visit to Lagos, applauded Governor Sanwo-Olu for all the great achievements of the administration in two years.

She specifically thanked Mr. Governor for supporting the widows of police officers killed in the wake of the unfortunate EndSARS protests.
