Lagos Declares Work-Free Day For Civil Servants To Register, Collect PVC

The Lagos State Government has declared four work-free days to different categories of public servants to encourage state workers to register or collect their Permanent Voters Card ahead of the 2023 general elections.

In a statement signed by the state’s Head of Service, Hakeem Muri-Okunola, he said this move by the state government is to ensure that workers are encouraged to perform their civil rights.

Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission recently disclosed that only seven million of the over fifteen million Lagos residents have registered for PVC.

Staff in grade levels 01, 03, 07 and 15 will take off Tuesday, 26th July while grade level 02, 04, 08 and 13 will register on Wednesday 27th July.

Thursday 28th July is reserved for staff in grade level 05, 09, 12 and 17 while staff in level 06, 10, 14 and 16 will register on Friday, July 29th.

“Consequently, it is notified for general information that all public servants who are yet to register or collect their Permanent Voters Card (PVC) from designated INEC Centers are advised to do so before the deadline date of 30th July, 2022.

“To this end, Mr. Governor has graciously approved a work-free day for public servants to enable them process/collect their PVC from their respective Local Governments/Local Council Development Areas. Officers are expected to return to work with their Voters Card after this exercise,” the statement reads.

Illegal Fees: Oyo Govt. Sanctions Head-teachers for Denying Pupils Access to Exam Hall

The Oyo State Government has sanctioned some Head-teachers for collecting illegal fees and denying pupils access to examination halls during the ongoing Public Primary Schools Unified Examination.

The Executive Chairman, Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran disclosed this today while monitoring the Exams in Ibadan.

Dr. Nureni Adeniran said five Head-teachers of Methodist Basic School, (School 1-5), Gan-gansi were found culpable in the alleged illegal collection of fees, spearheaded by the School-Based Management Committee of the school, who chased the pupils home.

Adeniran, who said the present administration has abolished collection of any development Levy in all schools across the state, frowned at the School authority’s role in compelling parents to contribute the said fee.

“No doubt SBMCs, PTAs can contribute to the development of their local schools. But, it must not in any way affect the education of pupils”, he added.

“No child should be discriminated against, in the State Education sector”, Adeniran insisted.

According to him, some parents had reported to the Board that Headteachers of the school denied their children access to Examination hall for failure to pay N100 development levy charged by the School’s management and SBMC, through a popular radio station in Ibadan.

Adeniran said the present administration, under Governor Seyi Makinde’s leadership would not fold its arms and allow saboteurs to ridicule its efforts in mandating free education.

He added that the ongoing education reforms of the present administration in the State, has yielded huge results that must not be sabotaged.

Dr. Adeniran therefore directed that the affected Head-teachers should be given queries to serve as a deterrent to others who may be collecting such illegal fees.

“For denying Governor Seyi Makinde’s Pupils access to write exams, queries have been issued to Head-teachers of Methodist Basic School, 1-5”, he said.

The SUBEB boss also directed that all learners should be allowed to sit for exams without any form of hindrance.

He urged Teachers in all public schools to adhere strictly to the State Government’s policies and directives on Education.

Some of the schools visited include, IMG, Ibuko Ibadan South East LGA; Ratibi Muslim school, Molete, South-West; IMG Basic School, Idi-Iroko, Molete.

Adeniran, who led a team of officials from SUBEB also visited Islamic Mission School 1, Bode, Ibadan; Methodist Basic School 1-5, Gan-gansi and Community Primary School, Awotunde, Ona-ara LGA and a host of others.

He said the monitoring exercise continues in the course of the week, which will also be extended to other zones of the State, including Ogbomoso, Oyo, Oke-Ogun and Ibarapa.

Osun: Reps Leader, Ado-Doguwa Knocks Buhari, Gbajabiamila, For Congratulating Adeleke

The Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Alhassan Ado-Doguwa, has faulted the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila and President Muhammadu Buhari for congratulating the Osun State governor-elect, Ademola Adeleke.
The Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate had defeated the incumbent Governor and candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Gboyega Oyetola.

Ado-Doguwa, in his reaction, said President Buhari and Gbajabiamila are on their own as they did not congratulate the opposition party on behalf of APC.

The lawmaker noted that the ruling party will challenge the eligibility of Adeleke to contest in the 16th July governorship election.

Ado-Doguwa, while speaking on the outcome of the election, said, “My attention has drawn to a video going viral with my voice saying no to the PDP’s victory in the last Osun State gubernatorial election. Although it could be seen as our usual jokes on the floor I am constrained to say yes, I meant what I said. After all, I am entitled to my opinion. Details of my personal reasons will follow and I want them covered.

“Yes, I can not in any way congratulate the opposition for winning my (APC) state in an election that was marred by irregularities, reneging from votes buying, forced voting, election violence and most importantly, we are going to court to challenge even the illegibility of the two candidates.

“I cannot be hypocritical. If the Speaker or Mr President feels they want to felicitate with PDP, fine they can go ahead but that was not in the name of our party. I repeat: they are on their own. I stand bold to say that I cannot congratulate the PDP on a fraudulent election Victory.

“Just like the Speaker and the President have the right to congratulate them, I also have my democratic right not to congratulate them.”

Aseyin Lived An Exemplary Life, Oyo Lawmaker, Dele Adeola Mourns

The honourable member representing Iseyin/ Itesiwaju State Constituency, Hon. Dele Adeola has condoled with the family of His Royal Highness, Aseyin of Iseyin, Oba (Dr) Salawudeen Jimoh Ajinese II on the demise of the highly revered traditional ruler earlier on Sunday.

The lawmaker commiserates with entire people of Iseyin Community, Oke-Ogun and Oyo State in general on the demise of the traditional ruler whose reign reinforced the town as a land of peace, accommodating and a bastion of history and tradition.

Inspector Killed As Unknown Gunmen Attack Police Station In Akure

Unknown gunmen, this morning, attacked a police station in Akure, the Ondo state capital, killing a police inspector, Temenu Boluwaji.

Several other police men on duty reportedly sustained injuries during the heavy shoot out between the policemen and the gunmen

ODUDUWA NEWS gathered that the Okuta Ekerinla police station situated in the heart of the town, was invaded by the gunmen at about 1 am.

Their mission remained unknown as at press time.

The victim, was hit by bullet during a shootout and later died on his way to the state hospital.

But the spokesperson for the state police command, Funmi Odunlami confirmed the attack.

Odunlami said in a terse statement that
“On the 25th July, 2022 around 0100 am, hoodlums attacked Okuta Elerinla Division, in Akure.

“Policemen who were at alert and alive to their duty repelled them accordingly and the miscreants were unable to gain entrance into the station.

“During the cross fire, one of our gallant station guards AP.207538 0INSPR. Temwnu Boluwaji was hit by a bullet, he later died on his way to the hospital.

“The Commissioner of Police CP Oyeyemi Oyediran, has ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case and ensure the perpetrators are arrested.

Meanwhile, the police Commissioner has appealed to ” the people of the state to go about their lawful duty without fear, as the days of these criminals are numbered.

Ogun declares Tuesday work-free for PVC registration

As the deadline for registration of voters for 2023 General Elections comes to a close on Sunday, 31st of July, the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, MFR has declared Tuesday, 26th July, 2022 as a work-free day in the State.

In a Statement issued in Abeokuta on Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Kunle Somorin, the Governor said the “one-day public holiday is to provide a window for all workers in the state, who have either lost their cards, not registered or who might need to travel to their wards, local government areas and constituencies to perfect their Permanent Voters Registration or transfer their cards, where necessary, to enable them participate in the next general elections”.

“As an inclusive, participatory and accountable government, the role of PVCs to the citizens cannot be overemphasised,” the statement added.

The Governor, therefore, urged all eligible adults to seize the opportunity of the holiday to go home to their different wards and constituencies to search for their Registered Voter Cards (PVCs), fill the claims and objections forms and transfer the PVCs where necessary, the statement concluded.

“Arole Oduduwa Olofin Adimula,Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, the Ooni of Ife has received the news announcing the demise of late Aseyin of Iseyin Kingdom in Oyo state Oba AbdulGaniy Adekunle Salawudeen who he is reported to have joined his ancestors yesterday Sunday 24th July 2022 with an unimaginable rude shock” Olafare said.

Describing the late Iseyin’s traditional ruler as an unforgettable close ally who was strongly convinced about the unity of the Oodua people and who selflessly joined in his peace and unification agenda, Ooni Ogunwusi recalled how the Aseyin made his entourage to several local and international peace and unity trips

“Kabiyesi Aseyin will be greatly missed as a close ally of the Ooni with whom he traveled many times alongside other Yoruba kings to meet their teaming subjects in countries like UK, Ghana, USA & Brazil. Death of Aseyin of Iseyin Shocking, Painful, Makinde Mourns

Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo State, on Sunday, described the death of the Aseyin of Iseyin, His Royal Majesty, Oba Dr. Abdulganiyu Adekunle Salau, Ajinese Ologunebi I, as shocking and painful.

The governor maintained that the death of Oba Salau is a huge loss to the state, as the late monarch was an exemplary leader and a true believer in the progress and development of Oyo State.

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, indicated that the Governor commiserated with the Aseyin-in-Council and the entire Iseyin community as well as the traditional council in the state.

Makinde, who described the late Aseyin as a great royal achiever, said he went about the business of developing Iseyin with the positive aggression of a change agent, who would stop at nothing to achieve his vision.

“I have been informed of the passage of the Aseyin of Iseyinland, His Royal Majesty, Oba Abdulganiyu Adekunle Salau.

“His death is another great loss among the ranks of leading traditional rulers in our dear state. This death is painful and shocking, but we can only submit to the will of the Almighty God, who alone has the power over life and death.

“Again, Oyo State has lost an exemplary royal father and a true believer in the progress and development of Oyo State.

“Oba Salau worked with the vigour and aggression of a change agent, who would stop at nothing to achieve a positive turnaround of his society. He made the business of developing and repositioning Iseyin his passionate goal and he achieved same in his close to two decades of royal leadership.

Breaking: Aseyin of Iseyin Joins Ancestors

ODUDUWA NEWS has just gathered that one of the foremost traditional rulers in Oyo State, the Aseyin of Iseyin, Oba Salawudeen Adekunle, Ajinese 1, has just recently passed away, according to ODUDUWA NEWS.

According to credible source, the monarch passed away on Sunday, but the traditional council yet to make official statement on his death.

Prior to his death, the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Jimoh Ajagungbade Oyewumi, passed away in December 2021. He was followed by the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji, and the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, who died in January and April of the following year, respectively.

Recall, how this newspaper had reported that the traditional ruler has been battling with undisclosed ailment before he later joined his ancestors.
