Olusegun Obasanjo, a former president, met with Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, and Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, on Thursday in London.
Although the meeting’s specifics were still hazy at the time this report was filed, it was discovered that it was a part of discussions for the 2023 presidential election.
Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Samuel Ortom of Benue State, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, Donald Duke, the former governor of Cross River State, and other friends of Wike attended the meeting.
Oyo State Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Dr. Wasiu Olatubosun on Thursday said Governor Seyi Makinde has fulfilled his campaign promises in the State.
Olatubosun, who stated this at the inauguration of GSM Market and Artisans Marine at Saki Town Hall, Saki, noted that the present administration has been transparent and accountable to the people.
He also reiterated Governor Seyi Makinde’s commitment to doing more for the zone, if re-elected in 2023.
Olatubosun enjoined the people of Saki-East, Saki-West and Atisbo to disregard any “falsehood” by the opposition, adding that Makinde has fulfilled his campaign promises to Oke-Ogun residents.
During the engagement with Traders and Artisans in Saki-East, Saki-West and Atisbo Local Governments, Dr. Olatubosun said the Governor’s foray into politics was for service delivery and not for personal gain or deception.
Olatubosun who also spoke on the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State, Alaga sub-station and Gravity FM Igboho, assured Traders and Artisans that the governor would consolidate on his administration’s achievements in the last three-and-half years if re-elected.
Olatubosun said the Free Education policy of the present administration has been a huge achievement of the Makinde’s administration.
On Free Healthcare, Olatubosun said the Governor has instructed that a Primary Health centre must be functioning in each of the Three Hundred and Fifty-one wards in the State.
He further hinted that Two-hundred and twenty health centres have been completed throughout the State, while the remaining are on the verge of completion.
Speaking on the Security architecture in Oyo State, Olatubosun praised Governor Makinde’s wisdom in ensuring Oyo State is secured, despite the little resources in the State.
“Governor Makinde has also donated patrol vans to security agencies to enable them to provide effective security in the state”, he said.
He added that the state government would provide more patrol vans to ensure that the needs of the security agencies are met in overcoming the security challenges affecting the state.
Dr. Olatubosun said, just recently, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State approved the recruitment of additional 500 corps into the State Western Nigeria Security Network (WNSN) codenamed Amotekun.
He said recruiting new corps would enhance Amotekun’s performance and further deepen the security architecture of the state.
Olatubosun said residents and indigenes of Saki, are enjoying the best of times, with the thoroughly revamped Oyo State Agricultural Development Programme (OYSADEP) which now bears Oyo State Agribusiness Development Agency (OYSADA), with its headquarters in Saki.
“The newly constructed Saki township road has given you a new lease on life. While the Ogbooro-Saki Township road is underway.
He said these, amongst many other things are part of the Governor’s policies on Expansion of economy through agribusiness pillar.
Olatubosun also enumerated the Governor’s commitment to the welfare of civil servants and retirees, pointing at the continuous payment of their entitlements.
Speaking at the event, the full time commissioner of teaching service Commision, Mudasir Awujoola lauded Seyi Makinde-led government for the lofty infrastructural development Saki town has enjoyed.
While the Chairman of Saki-West, Alhaji Omirinde who spoke through his Chief-of-staff, Alhaji Abdulahi, assured that the three Local Governments and the entirety of Saki Township would always support the Governor’s re-election bid.
He said Makinde’s policies have ameliorated the conditions of living of the people of Saki.
Also speaking, the Babaloja-General of Oyo State, Alh. Ismail Jimoh; the President Market Advisory council, Alh. Dauda Oladepo and the Babaloja of Oke-Ogun, Elesin Wahab Adebayo lauded Makinde’s Government, for inaugurating the first of its kind Market Advisory Council.
They said the Governor has shown unparalleled love for Traders, pledging their support for Governor Seyi Makinde-led administration.
The Traders’ Union leaders said that he had in the last three years shown purposeful leadership, especially by appointing one of them, Odunayo Kayode-Danjuma, as Special Adviser on Trade matters.
They therefore promised that members of the union would support the governor’s quest to ensure better service delivery to the people.
In his own remark, the People’s Democratic Party PDP chairman of Saki West who spoke on behalf of his colleagues at the federal constituency, Hon. Wasiu Ayenro urged residents of the towns to vote for Governor Seyi Makinde.
The President, Progressive Artisans, Alh. Salaudeen Quamorudeen and the President, Saki- West Artisans, Mr. Abdulraheem Ojolowo highlighted several developmental projects embarked upon by the State Governor, adding that the Governor has not reneged in his promises to residents of the State.
They therefore said all leaders of Associations had unanimously agreed to work for the present administration’s success.
Highlight of the Commissioner’s visit to the three Local Governments, was the inauguration of Saki-West, Saki-East, Atisbo GSM Market and Artisans Marine by the Honourable Commissioner.
The Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Olaonipekun Oyetunji has eulogised the National Youth Service Corps for the role it plays in training the graduate youths and instiling in them respect for other cultures and traditions through their deployment to States other than their State of Origin.

He said that the deployment of the members to regions and States other than theirs over the years is a clear indication that the Scheme has not lost its relevance and essence. According to him, matters of the Scheme therefore are of national importance and requires utmost diligence and attention.
Oba Jimoh said this when the State Coordinator, Mrs Olayinka Abdulwahab paid him a visit in his Palace in Osogbo on Wednesday.
Oba Jimoh appreciated the Director General of NYSC, Brig. Gen. MK Fadah and the NYSC members for the role played in the successful conduct of the Gubernatorial election in the State. He commended the NYSC members for comporting themselves in a dignified and patriotic manner as expected of them by the Scheme and INEC.
Oba Jimoh further appreciated Mrs Abdulwahab for deeming it fit to visit the Palace to relay the appreciation of the Director General and also to inform him of the Scheme’s challenges in the State. He assured the State Coordinator of his support and promised to look into the issue of the office space raised by her during the visit.
He agreed that the Scheme needs a bigger space to accommodate the teeming number of Corps Members deployed to the State and therefore said that he will meet with critical stakeholders in the State and also assured the State Coordinator and her team that the issue raised will be treated with utmost urgency.
Earlier, Mrs Olayinka Abdulwahab had appreciated Ọba Jimoh on behalf of the Director General of NYSC and Management of the Scheme for ensuring the security of Corps Members serving in the State capital and the State at large.
Abdulwahab hinted that her visit was to seek royal blessings upon the Scheme and its members and to also express the appreciation of the Scheme for the role played by the Royal Father in securing the lives and properties of Corps Members serving within Osogboland. She said that about half of the population of Corps Members are serving in the Capital and therefore, the Scheme cannot take for granted the role played by HRM in making the Capital a safe and conducive place for members of the Scheme to serve.
Abdulwahab further said that indeed the role of Royal fathers in the State cannot be overemphasised. According to her, the success of the service recorded over the years is all thanks to Almighty God, Royal fathers and other stakeholders of the Scheme in the State. She stated that the peaceful and conducive environment in the State makes it possible for Corps Members to discharge their duties well and impart upon their host communities.
Abdulwahab speaking further informed Ọba Jimoh of the Scheme’s major challenge which is that of having a befitting office space to accommodate the various Branches and Units and also spacious enough to attend to the influx of Corps Members especially during relocation.
“Kabiyesi, I wish to bring to your notice the Scheme’s pressing challenge of lack of a befitting office space to accommodate our number. Kabiyesi, like other parastatals have their headquarters in the Capital, I wish to sincerely appeal to you to help the Scheme retain its headquarters in the Capital.
“we have enough space at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede but we felt it would not be good enough for us to move the Scheme’s headquarters from the Capital to another place since majority of our Corps Members are in the Capital.
” I therefore wish to humbly request Kabiyesi to use his authority and connection to help the Scheme secure a better space for office accommodation within Osogbo”, she said.

Spokesman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential candidate, Senator Dino Melaye, has said his principal will floor Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State.
Tinubu has been in control of Lagos State since 1999 when he was elected governor. Although he left in 2007, he still wields a large influence in the state, determining who gets what as far as politics is concerned.
Speaking in an interview on Trust TV, Melaye said though Osun is the “ancestral home” of Tinubu, he was defeated by the PDP which removed his first cousin as governor.
“If election is conducted in Lagos today PDP will win the election, Atiku will defeat Tinubu, Atiku was in Lagos two days ago, and he was received everywhere he goes. The people want him and he is going to win the election,” he said.

Oyo Governor Seyi Makinde won’t be reelected in 2023, according to Ibadan-based priest Prophet Moses Olagunju.
Olagunju asserted that in 2009, he foretold Makinde’s triumph, which transpired ten years later.
Senator Hosea Agboola, the head of the Governor’s Advisory Council, and former Budget Commissioner, Niyi Farinto, according to him, are aware of the 2009 prophecy.

Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu,SAN, has reconstructed the Ondo State House of Assembly Complex after forty years of total neglect by successive governments.
The entire complex, built by the first Executive Governor of the state, late Pa. Michael Ajasin, was left in a sore-sight by past government before the Governor Akeredolu administration.
The Governor, who paid an unscheduled visit to the Assembly complex on Tuesday, expressed satisfaction with the level of work done at the Hallowed chamber.
He described the work done as the “reconstruction of the Hallowed chamber” adding that his administration has completely changed the face of the Assembly.
Governor Akeredolu and his entourage were received at the Assembly complex by members of the House led by the Speaker,Rt. Hon. Bamidele Oleyelogun, amidst pomp and pageantry.
Aside the reconstruction of the Assembly complex, the Hallowed chamber was also equipped with modern facilities and gadgets needed for the legislative functions of the lawmakers.
Addressing reporters at the Assembly, Governor Akeredolu said:This is not my first time of coming here. I am, undoubtedly very happy at the level of the reconstruction. Let me use that word. When you look at the materials that have been used here, they are solid materials that will last for long.”
He noted that since the complex was built over 40 years ago, no administration has ever deemed it fit to do a major renovation on the building until his government took the bold step.
“It will be a thing of pride to us, and I’m sure members of the House of Assembly will be very proud to carry out their functions in a more conducive and convenient environment. The quality of work is something that is up to the standard expected.
“Everything including their offices and the gallery has been put in a better shape, and one is certain that with this, the members of the 9th Assembly will be very proud and can beat their chest that this is done in their time.” Arakunrin Akeredolu added.
In his remarks, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Bamidele Oleyelogun, who spoke on behalf the Lawmakers, appreciated Governor Akeredolu for giving them a very conducive and befitting hallowed chamber.
“Mr Governor, we appreciate God for today and we appreciate God for your life. It is very easy for us now to bring our colleagues from other states to Ondo State. Before now, the hallowed chamber was nothing to write home about.” He stressed.
According to him, the new face of the hallowed chamber can compete favourably with the best in the country.
“This is one of the best. The quality of materials used here is superb, Mr Governor. This is my third term in this hallowed chamber, and sincerely in the past years we have been facing a lot of challenges in this hallowed chamber.
“Mr Governor, we will not forget you and history will not forget you. This is a special thing for us”, the Speaker added.
As part of measures to ensure safety in the markets across the state, Osun state government on Tuesday announced that it will no longer condone display of wares on the roads and pedestrian walkways.
The Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Funke Egbemode, who made this disclosure in a statement released on Tuesday after the State Executive Council meeting, said the ban became necessary because of growing traffic snarl and danger to everybody using the markets.
Egbemode stated in the release that: “Osun state government is worried about the increasing danger that roadside display of wares is posing to its residents and citizens. The State Executive Council today set up a Special Task Force to stop the trend. This team will pay unscheduled visits to the markets and arrest those obstructing traffic with their wares. The team will work with the Federal Road Safety Corps and other law enforcement agencies to ensure safety in our markets.
The state can no longer fold its arms while some traders in our markets, especially weekly markets take over the motorways and pedestrian walkways with their wares. The ugly and unsafe trend must stop.
“This directive has become pertinent in view of increasing bottlenecks and security breach along market corridors, with vehicular and pedestrian traffic now contending for space amid trading activities on the same spots.
“The government has immediately set up a Special Task Force that will ensure compliance with safe conducts in our markets and ensure the safety of road users. It is therefore calling on all traders and their patrons to comply with this directive as the Task Force team will operate without prior notice and those arrested will be prosecuted swiftly.
“Traders and artisans who have encroached on the main road and walkways with their wares are hereby directed to vacate such unauthorised trading spots with immediate effect.
“This move is in the interest of all residents, as the safety of Osun citizens remains a priority of the government. It is, therefore, necessary for all concerned to work with the government to end this unsafe practice.” The statement read.
The Nigeria Police Force have warned its personnel against checking people’s phone during stop and search operation on the road, adding that they have no right to do so.
Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Muyiwa Adejobi, reechoed the notice on Tuesday during an appearance on Sunrise Daily.
“Stop checking phones on the road. You can’t check somebody’s phone. It is his personal property. You cannot do it,” Adejobi said of an activity which Nigerians have repeatedly accused policemen of doing.
