Osun Guber Tribunal: 8 SANs, 45 Counsels Assembled To Defend Adeleke, PDP

A total of eight Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN) have been hired by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Governor-elect, Sen. Ademola Adeleke, to defend them at the governorship election petition tribunal, sitting in Osogbo, capital of the State of Osun.

No fewer than 45 other lawyers are reportedly in the legal team of both the PDP and Adeleke who are second and third respondents in a petition filed by Governor Adegboyega Oyetola against Adeleke’s declaration as the winner of the July 16, 2022 governorship election in the state.

OSUN DEFENDER reliably gathered that the legal team of the PDP and Adeleke will be led by popular election legal experts like Alex Ezion, SAN; Dr. Onyechi Ikpeazu, SAN; Chief Nathaniel Oke, SAN; Mr Kehinde Ogunwumiju, SAN; Dr Paul. Ananaba, SAN; among others.

The Deputy Director of Adeleke Campaign Council, Barr. Kolapo Alimi, told the medium yesterday that the PDP has assembled his legal team to ‘thrash’ Oyetola’s petition.

According to Alimi, Oyetola’s petition at the tribunal is just a waste of the ‘precious time’ of the judiciary.

It would be recalled that the PDP had on Tuesday filed and submitted its defence to Oyetola’s petition at the tribunal, praying the court to dismiss the petition.

According to ODUDUWA NEWS, the PDP, the governor’s petition is frivolous and baseless.

The response was submitted to the tribunal by the Caretaker Committee Chairman of the PDP, Dr. Adekunle Akindele.

Akindele told the tribunal that Adeleke convincingly won the election and was duly declared the winner, stating that there was no over-voting in any of the polling units being challenged by Oyetola and the APC.

He asked the election tribunal to dismiss Oyetola’s petition, describing it as frivolous, baseless, and un-meritorious.

Maintaining that the election was free, fair and credible without any iota of non-compliance with the Electoral Act, 2022, Akindele said the allegations listed in Oyetola’s petition are lame and imaginary.

Akindele concluded that the petition filed by Oyetola and the APC is time-wasting and effort in futility, noting that Adeleke, the governor-elect, fulfilled all qualification criteria and conditions to run for the election.

Gunmen attack Fayose’s younger brother in Osun, kidnap people

According to ODUDUWA NEWS, Isaac Fayose, the younger brother of Ayo Fayose, the former governor of Ekiti State, was attacked by unidentified gunmen.

According to Fayose’s brother, the tragic incident happened in Osun State’s Gbongan Area.

Mr. Fayose detailed the interaction and mentioned that he was going from Lagos at the time on his Facebook Timeline.

Additionally, he claimed that gunmen kidnapped numerous persons in Gbongan.

Mr. Fayose displayed pictures of the gunmen-damaged version of his automobile.

He stated:

“Thank you, Lord, for life!

“No one perished.

Many people were abducted

“Kidnappers from Oyo state’s Gbogan region are traveling to Lagos.”

“Nigeria has no security at all.”

Lagos Park Boss, Akiru Shot In Cultist Clash

Mayhem erupted at Mile 12 area of Lagos on Sunday following the killing of a member of the parks and garages, Sulaimon Onaolapo, popularly known as Akiru.

His body was seen on the road, after he was reportedly shot by gunmen on Sunday. The incident led to pandemonium in the area as commercial activities were paralysed.

There were intermittent gun shots as rival cult groups engaged in supremacy battle following the killing of Ariku.

Traders hurriedly shut their shops and took off to avoid being caught in the mayhem that ensued.

Report indicated that the dispute occurred when a cult member named Akiru was hit by a rival cult member which subsequently led to complete mayhem.

The deceased was said to be the chairman of the Motor Park under the Mile 12 bridge, a position he was before the state government banned National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and handed over the affairs of commercial vehicles operators to a 25-man committee.

The report of the clash quickly spread on social media as users warned Lagosians to stay off the Mile 12 axis for now as there was mayhem in the area.

Kwankwaso is not stepping down for Tinubu– Jibrin on APC-NNPP merger

A former House of Representatives member, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has claimed that the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso, now controls the northern votes of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Jibrin stated this during an interview with Channels Television on Friday.

Recently, there have been speculations that Kwankwaso might ask his supporters to vote for Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the 2023 election.

Reacting to the speculation, Jibrin, who is the spokesperson of the Kwankwaso presidential campaign, said the former governor is not considering merging with the APC.

“We have debunked these lies over and over again. It is an attempt to give a wrong impression to the public for one or two parties to be able to raise their standing in public.

“Kwankwaso is a practical politician, we are serious-minded people. We are not in this race for anyone and I have said it over and over again.

“People should disregard all these rumours that ‘Kwankwaso is working for Asiwaju, We are going to merge with APC’.

“How will he do that? Somebody who is controlling the heart of the north. Somebody who is the beneficiary of the 12 million Buhari’s votes.

“Kwankwaso is the most popular person, most loved. He is the person who is going to control those votes. Now look at the dynamics of the election today, there is no sitting governor in the northern part of the country that is contesting for the presidency so every governor has its peculiar challenges in his State.

“What the governors are interested in is to deliver their States. They know it is dangerous for you within your States to say you are going against Kwankwaso because Kwankwaso has his own direct connection with the masses.

“In the entire northern part of the country, nobody is going to get the quantum of votes Kwankwaso is going to pull out,” Jibrin said.

Lagos loses 22,500 children to air pollution

The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency says that 22,500 children died from air pollution in the state in 2021.

It stated that the figure was 75 per cent of 30,000 people who died in 2021 in the state due to the bad environment.

The General Manager, LASEPA, Dr Dolapo Fasawe, disclosed this to newsmen on the sidelines of the official kick-off ceremony for the “EKO Clean Air” project on Saturday in Lagos.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the theme of the project is “Breathe Clean Air Now”.

Fasawe said that the figures were derived from a report which recorded the impact of air pollution on the health of residents.

The GM said that the administration of Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, had been very deliberate and proactive in its resolve to deliver clean air and sustainable environment to Lagos residents.

She noted that upon resumption, the governor prioritised health and the environment in the administration’s THEMES agenda “because there is no good health without a good environment.

“Eko for Clean Air is preaching prosperity, good health, increased GDP and increased productivity for the people of Lagos State.

“We are currently in the Itedo community and the response has been mind blowing.

“We did an Air Quality Study before this intervention and we also did something called the K-A-P: Knowledge, Attitude and Practices and we realised that a lot of people did not know the effects of air pollution on health.

“So, our coming here to preach clean energy and recycling, the people are excited and they are committed to partnering with the government on the project.”

Mother sells own baby for N600,000 in Ogun

A 23-year-old mother said to be a call girl, Mary Olatayo, had sold her three-week-old baby for N600,000, the Ogun State Police Command has said.

Olatayo was arrested by the police on August 18, following a complaint from the father of the baby, at Mowe Divisional Police Headquarters, Ogun State.

The father of the baby had told the police that he had a relationship with her, which led to pregnancy and the baby in question.

The man disclosed that when Mary got pregnant, he rented an apartment for her where she lived till she gave birth to a baby boy.

According to him, Olatayo suddenly disappeared with the baby from the rented apartment three weeks after delivery.

She was said to have relocated to a hotel, where she had gone for a ‘hook up’ with another man.

“All efforts to know where the baby is proved futile,” Ogun police spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, quoted the man as saying.

Oyeyemi informed that the DPO of Mowe Division, SP Folake Afeniforo, acting on the report, detailed detectives to the scene, and the suspect was arrested.

While being interrogated, Oyeyemi said Olatayo “confessed to the police that she has sold the baby to someone in Anambra State at the rate of six hundred thousand Naira. She confessed that it was her friend, Chioma Esther Ogbonna, who led her to the buyer in the state and that they both shared the money equally.”

Her confession, ODUDUWA NEWS learnt, led to the arrest of Chioma, who Oyeyemi said also corroborated Mary’s claims.

Police investigation, Oyeyemi hinted, had revealed that Olatayo a native of Omu-Aran in Kwara State “is a call girl who sees the baby as a disturbance to her business, hence she decided to do away with the baby.”

He added that Olatayo had an accomplice in Imo-born Chioma, “who quickly contacted the buyer in Anambra State.”

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, has ordered the transfer of the suspects to the anti-human trafficking and child labour unit of the State CIID for further investigation.

CP Bankole also directed that everything legal must be done to recover the sold baby.

Lifeless body found on Abeokuta roadside

A yet-to-be identified man has been found dead by the roadside in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

It was learnt that the lifeless body of the man was discovered Thursday morning beside AP filling station at Ijaiye, Abeokuta South Local Government of the State.

Nobody knows the cause of the man’s death, but many suspected that he must have been killed by a hit-and-run vehicle or ritualists.

It was, however, observed that no body part of the deceased man is missing.

As of Saturday afternoon, the already decomposing body is yet to be evacuated by the concerned authorities.

Locals said the stench oozing out of the corpse has become unbearable, begging those concerned to do the needful.

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said he was not aware of the situation.

However, he said, “We will contact the appropriate health workers and the necessary papers will be given to them to pack the remains.”

Also, the Commissioner for Environment, Ola Oresanya, said he would get across to the local government authorities in charge of the area.
