Ogun Governorship Candidate, Prof. Bamgbose Dies 6 Days After Picking Form

The Ogun State governorship candidate of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Prof. David Bamgbose is dead.

Bamgbose, who was the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the 2015 election in Ogun state.

He emerged the governorship candidate of PRP last Saturday after dumping the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over an alleged injustice by the leadership of the party.

Bamgbose died at the Lantoro hospital after a brief illness on Friday morning at the age of 54.

Confirming his demise to journalists, his personal assistant and Asst. senior pastor of Peace and Love Church, Mr Oduntan Olayemi said he had complained of tiredness a day earlier, and was taken to hospital around Olomore, where be was referred to Federal Medical Central, (FMC), Abeokuta.

He was then admitted at Lantoro where he was given oxygen till today (Friday).

“He complained of tiredness on yesterday (Thursday) and we decided to take him to an hospital around Olomore. We were referred to FMC for further checks

“We opted for the state hospital, Lantoro because of the urgency and he was admitted at the emergency ward where he was administer oxygen till today (Friday).

“I got back to the hospital this morning and I met him breathing too fast and heavy. I was at where I went to get him some prescribed medication that he has passed on”, Olayemi narrated.

Prof. Bamgbose is survived by his wife, Mary Bamgbose and six children.

Ice Prince arrested for allegedly abducting, assaulting policeman in Lagos

Popular Nigerian rap and hip hop recording artist Panshak Henry Zamani popularly known as Ice Prince was today, at the early morning hours of 3am arrested.

The Oleku croner’s arrest was confirmed by SP Benjamin Hundeyin, Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Police Command.

According to a post made on Hundeyin’s verified Twitter account, the 37-year-old singer was stopped for driving without license plates. He agreed to be taken to the station and thereafter, abducted the police officer in his car, assaulted him and threatened to throw him in the river. He has been arrested and would be arraigned today.

Ice Prince Zamani rose to fame in 2010 when he released his hit singles titled Oleku, featuring Brymo.

Irele Obaship: I Ordered Arrest Of Ademola Oloworiyibi Because Of Impersonation – Gov. Akeredolu

Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu,SAN, has called for the arrest and prosecution of one Mr. Ademola Idowu Oloworiyibi for parading himself as the Olofun of Irele, in Irele Local Government Area Of the State.

In a letter addressed to the Commissioner of Police in the State and signed by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Chief Olugbenga Ale, the State Government noted that no person has been approved or appointed as the Olofun of Irele kingdom.

The Government described the activities of Oloworiyibi as overreaching and illegal, adding that it is capable of causing disaffection amongst the peace-loving people of the ancient town which consequences can be better imagined.

The letter reads:”Government has noted with deep concern, the activities of one Mr. Ademola Idowu Oloworiyibi, who has been parading himself as the Olofun of Irele kingdom, in Irele Local Government Area of Ondo State. This impostor has not only impersonated the Olofun of Irele kingdom, he has also arrogated to himself the powers to confer chieftaincy titles on unsuspecting beneficiaries and his lackeys/cohorts.

“The position of the State Government is that no person has been approved or appointed as the Olofun of Irele kingdom, hence the activities of Mr. Ademola Idowu Oloworiyibi are not only overreaching but illegal and capable of causing disaffection amongst the peace-loving people of the ancient town which consequences can be better imagined. It is in the light of the foregoing, amongst others, that the Ondo State Government is ordering the arrest and prosecution of Mr. Ademola Idowu Oloworiyibl.

“It is a known fact that the Ondo State Government, since the inception of our administration has maintained dignified neutrality in the selection of traditional rulers for towns and villages in the State and this is unarguably responsible for the peace the State is enjoying on chieftaincy matters.

“Consequently, the State Government will not fold it hands and watch any individual or group of Individuals disturb the peace of the State through needless and avoidable chieftaincy tussles. I attach hereto some photographs of Mr. Ademola Idowu Oloworiyibi and his activities.”

ODUDUWA NEWS has gathered that the owner of Mauve 21 Event Centre, Ring-Road, General Abdullah Muraina rtd. has been reportedly dead today.

Sources revealed that the serial entrepreneur and retired officer of the Nigerian Army died in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

The popular Mauve 21 Lounge is one of the many investments of the late retired general.

Two Kidnap Victims Regain Freedom In Oke-Ogun

ODUDUWA NEWS has just gathered that the two kidnap victims abducted in Babaode, Itesiwaju Local Government of Oke-Ogun have been released.

Recall, ODUDUWA NEWS had reported that the kidnappers had demanded N30m ransom for the release of the two victims identified as Mr. Alaba Afonja and Ezekiel.

Meanwhile, The kidpnap victims were said to have been released on Wednesday along Ilero Road after the payment of N10m ransom to the kidnappers.

It was learnt that three loaves of N500 bread, one pack of tin milk were also delivered to the abductors by a family representative.

PDP, APC Divide Students As NANS Election Rescheduled To Hold Tommorrow In Abuja

The National Association of Nigerian Students has today begun accreditation of Students’ Union Presidents of various tertiary institutions across Nigeria forming the senators that would vote for the next executive of the association as Asefon-led NANS President set to be dissolved tommorrow immediately after the convention.

Recall, the NANS election earlier scheduled to hold last week Thursday had been delayed till today, the new date later set for accreditation due to internal wranglings viz-a-viz permutations by the camp of Asefon believed to be loyal to ruling APC party and the other camp believed to have been rooting for the NANS-executive that would be aligning to the Peoples’ Democratic Party as the general elections come close.

ODUDUWA NEWS Correspondent in Abuja had earlier reported how several students had lamented how the current executive members of NANS had been using them to play political pranks in their various political camps they had pitched their tents with.

It was observed that election could have been held as scheduled but was rescheduled due to the disagreement and rancour that trailed the disqualification of some candidates believed to be marked down by Asefon, the incumbent president of the association.

Bab Tee from Ondo State was earlier screened out by the the Convention Planning Committee CPC on the grounds that he was a fresh undergraduate which according to the CPC was in violation to the constitution of NANS. However, some stakeholders in Southwest NANS had spoken to ODUDUWA NEWS on last week Thursday that they would rather disrupt the convention from holding if their candidate, BabTee was not allowed to contest.

Many student leaders who spoke to ODUDUWA NEWS in Abuja alleged Asefon to be working for APC in order to ensure that loyalists of the ruling party later emerge.

They have also confirmed to ODUDUWA NEWS that there would be factional executive members the way Asefon-led NANS is running the affairs of the convention as one man show. The student leaders believed that even if those disqualified were later allowed to contest, there would be a declaration of faction if they lose because the Convention Planning Committee CPC had shown partisanship since the beginning of the electioneeing process.

In the latest development, the Convention Planning Committee CPC had lifted embargo on all the disqualified candidates and hinged its decision on the grounds that ASUU strike action that had wasted academic calendar of the candidates necessitated the decision and should not be a basis for precedent in the nearest future.

Currently, the accreditation is going on but some student leaders hold the belief that the battle is between PDP and APC and who hold the mace at the final run will be determined at the convention.

NSCDC Condemns Attack On Yinka Ayefele, Launches Investigation Into Alleged Assault

The Nigeri Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has condemned alleged assault on popular musician and radio presenter, Yinka Ayefele.

The NSCDC vowed to launch an investigation into the matter in a statement made available to newsmen as read in part:

The attention of the management of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has been drawn to the news circulating in the media on a case of alleged physical assault on a popular Nigerian gospel singer, Yinka Ayefele by an operative of the Corps.

The incident occurred in Iloro Ekiti, where Ayefele entertained guests at an event and the officer in question allegedly attempted to take money from his car but when resisted, he punched the singer in the mouth and also threatened to shoot him for refusing to give them money.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps condemn in very strong terms such untoward attitude which is unbecoming of an officer of the law.

The Corps under the leadership of Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, has zero tolerance for corruption, indiscipline and any atrocious behaviour inimical to the safety and security of the citizens of this country.

We do not in anyway condone any act of recklessness, impudence or assault on any individual or group of persons nor Infringement on the fundamental human rights of citizens whether highly or lowly placed.

Consequently, the Commandant General has ordered that all concerned officers be identified and summoned immediately to the National Headquarters for necessary disciplinary action.

He has directed the Ekiti State Commandant to without delay commence full scale investigation into the incident to establish the veracity of the allegation and the level of involvement and culpability of all the officers fingered in the matter.

The Corps wishes to tender an unreserved apology to the renowned popular gospel singer, Yinka Ayefele, his followers, the Iloro Ekiti community and everyone affected by this condemnable and horrendous act which contradicts the Corps tenets, rules of engagement and standard operating procedure.

The Corps is a friendly force with “humility and integrity in service delivery” as its watchword.

We are firm in the implementation of our mandate but Civil in orientation.

The Corps respects the fundamental human rights of every Nigerian citizens and friends of the country residing within its geographical space.

We will continue to work closely with the good people of this great country to ensure that their safety and security is not compromised.

The Corps will therefore leave no stone unturned in making sure that justice is served in this matter and erring officers found culpable be decisively dealt with to serve as deterrent to others.

Seven Dead, Several Others Injured In Ekiti Road Auto Crash

ODUDUWA NEWS has gathered that no fewer than seven persons, lost their lives in a ghastly autocrash involving two vehicles in Ekiti State.

The accident, which occurred on Wednesday evening, along Iluomoba-Aisegba highway, claimed seven lives, involved an 18-passenger bus and a Toyota car, which had an head-on collision leading to the death of the casualties.

An eyewitness revealed to journalists in Ado Ekiti, on Friday, that one of the vehicles was about dodging a pothole and was said to have lost control, and collided with the oncoming vehicle traveling to Ado Ekiti. The news that first filtered into town was that, about 19 persons lost their lives during the accident, but this information was refuted by the Federal Road Safety Corps(FRSC).

Confirming the incident, the Sector Commander, FRSC in Ekiti State, Mr. Olusola Joseph, who refuted the claim that 19 persons had died , revealed that the number of passengers that occupied the two vehicles were 17. The Sector Commander clarified that seven passengers lost their lives and the victims had been deposited in the morgue.

The FRSC boss said: “Those who lost their lives had been deposited in the mortuary. They were all male passengers. They were occupants of the two vehicles. “The passengers that suffered varying degrees of injuries are presently being treated at the Afe Babalola Multisysstem hospital in Ado Ekiti”.

Sanwo-Olu Sets UP Autonomous Financing Channel For Lagos Tertiary Institutions

An autonomous funding mechanism that will keep all the three Lagos State’s tertiary institutions on the path of sustainability has just been initiated by the State Government.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Thursday, announced that the Government will be setting up Lagos State Tertiary Education Trust Fund, in a move that will creatively revolutionise the model for the funding of tertiary education in the country.

Sanwo-Olu made the announcement when he received members of the Visitation Panel to the Lagos State University (LASU) led by the former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Prof. Abdulrahman Bello, at the State House, Marina.

The panel, set up in November 2021, turned in a 322-page recommendations for the Governor’s implementation towards meeting the university’s contemporary needs in academic growth and physical development.
