The Popular Ibadan man known for witty Yoruba proverbs, Kolapo Oriogbade’s daughter has today been enrolled by the management of one private school in Ibadan.
The Management also upgraded his shop to container shop with the promise that the shop will be filled with supplies.
Recall ODUDUWA NEWS had earlier reported how Mr. Oriogbade has been trending on social media for his witty Yoruba proverbs.
In a statement made available today by the Management of the school and shared on social media as read in part:
“Today, we enrolled Mr Kolapo (Oriogbade) daughter at Faith Kiddies Nursery and Primary School, Ibadan.
“The management offered the child a Tution free education from Primary to Secondary level.
“While efforts are being made to fill his shop with supplies this week, we have upgraded his shop from this to that for better security”.
The honourable member representing Iseyin/Itesiwaju State Constituency, Hon. Dele Adeola has congratulated Iseyin-born legal icon, Barr. Ahmed Raji SAN on his recent appointment as the President of Oke-Ogun Development Consultative Forum ODCF.
Adeola in a statement made available to newsmen today said he has no doubt that with resounding achievements and track records of the legal luminary, the Oke-Ogun dream would be greatly achieved.
“Barr. Ahmed Raji SAN has been a great father and has contributed immensely to the development of Iseyin and Oke-Ogun at large. His appointment comes at a time Oke-Ogun needs someone of his calibre who will be able to pull the string and use his great influence towards the development of our dear region”, said Adeola.
He commended the past president of the forum Dr. Segun Ajuwon OON for its resilient efforts at promoting Oke-Ogun project.
He however charged the entire team to always ensure that fostering of unity and love are always at the forefront of their struggle.

Five yet-to-be-identified ladies who were trapped when a storey building in the Maryland area of Lagos State, sunk due to rainfall, have been rescued on Monday.
The Lagos Territorial Coordinator, National Emergency Management Agency, Ibrahim Farinloye, confirmed the development in a statement.
The sinking building is located at 47 Akinwunmi street, Akinwunmi North Estate, Mende, Maryland, Ikeja.
Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, will on Thursday, September 15th, 2022, commission some projects completed by the Governor Seyi Makinde led administration.
A statement by the Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, Dr. Wasiu Olatubosun indicated this on Monday.
Dr. Olatubosun said some of the projects billed to be commissioned by Gov. Fayemi during his visit include the Idi-Ape-Odogbo Barrack Road (7.2km) and General Gas Flyover completed by Governor Seyi Makinde.
The statement further revealed that the commissioning ceremony will take place at Isabatudeen Girls Grammar School, Orita Basorun, Ibadan.
Olatubosun also disclosed that the commissioning of the projects is part of the Governor’s efforts at realising the four pillars to accelerated development of Oyo State.
The ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo state has cautioned the All Progressives Congress (APC) against making baseless and frivolous allegations against Governor Seyi Makinde in order to remain relevant in political events ahead of the forthcoming 2023 general elections.
This was as the ruling party explained that only the nation’s electoral umpire, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has the constitutional right and power to relocate or transfer polling unit(s) not Governor Seyi Makinde or any elected public office holder for that matter.
Consequently, the party warns that raising false alarm, spreading lies and mischiefs as political tools during political campaign season is old fashioned as the people have become more politically conscious and sophisticated to be swayed by cheap propaganda and as such APC in Oyo state should desist from what it called self destructive adventure.
The ruling party in Oyo state in a statement made available to newsmen on Monday morning (today) by its Spokesman, Akeem Olatunji, debunked any interference or connivance with INEC as the constitutionally empowered electoral umpire on any of its works stressing that the APC in Oyo state was merely exposing itself in terms of what it is capable of doing out of desperation and perceiving the PDP in such distasteful light
The Oyo state chapter of the APC on Sunday (yesterday) had alleged that it had purportedly uncovered a plot about Governor Makinde and the PDP conniving with INEC to change some polling units tagged as strongholds of the opposition party with a view to frustrating voters come 2023.
According to the Oyo state PDP, the entire content of the said allegation by the APC was laughable describing an example of a dog claiming to have a territory in a kingdom controlled by a Lion saying “you know it is either such dog was high on something or making taking itself to the Lion as a meal.”
The ruling party in the state said INEC in its wisdom to improve on Nigeria’s electoral system created no fewer than 56, 872 new polling units across the country in year 2021 taking the total number of polling units in Nigeria to 176, 974.
The party added that prior to the recently held governorship election in Osun state, the INEC announced and relocated some polling units to deepen the credibility of the process in its wisdom. The party added that INEC in exercising its constitutional powers had also relocated some polling units from churches, mosques, palaces and other areas for several reasons.
The Oyo state PDP described the APC’s allegation as mere blackmail aimed at portraying INEC, the ruling party and the Governor in bad light stressing that a political party that told brazen lies unremorsefully to get to power would boldly tell more and worse lies to retain power noting that the opposition party still grapples with the reality of its rejection by Nigerians at all levels.
The ruling party however, stated that the opposition party was defeated hands down where it described as its stronghold in the 2019 governorship and more of its acclaimed strongholds have succumbed to the PDP on account of good governance, qualitative and purposeful political leadership under Governor Makinde maintaining that 2023 victory will be greater and monumental as it would culminate into the final burial of the APC in Oyo state.
“The allegation levelled against INEC, PDP and the wonderfully performing Governor, Seyi Makinde by the APC in Oyo state was nothing more than attention seeking move that would pass for a baby crying to get mother’s attention to be fed with breast milk.
“As an informed stakeholder if they truly are, and as a political party that was at least once in government in the state, they should know that INEC as the nation’s electoral umpire has the powers to relocate or change polling units so long as such move is presumably good to deepen the electoral process.
“For Heaven’s sake, the entire nation is preparing for next year’s general elections not some ward or local government elections and the APC was busy crying foul and rasing false alarm just to be seen as still existing. At least if you want to noticed as a party engage in meaningful venture that’ll be of public interest.
“This is particularly so, because when you tell lies brazenly and unremorsefully just to lie your way to power, you will tell more horrendous and mouthwatering lies to keep such office and then we ask, how long are we going to allow these set of charlatans and political neophytes drag us backwards by at least 10 years every time we make landmark success of moving forward in just 3 years?
“It is sad that APC is yet to learn anything from our political development in the state and it is even more worrisome that the opposition party has continued to deny itself the obvious reality which is that Nigerians at all levels have publicly and openly rejected the APC as a calamitous party. This obviously occasioned why they’re incapable of engendering peace in their hearts as politicians other than sheer hate and consistent propagation of falsehood.
“Unfortunately for them, the good people of Oyo state have grown more politically conscious, sophisticated and are more participating more inclusively now than ever before therefore, the APC should wake up from its self inflicted delusion of thinking the good people of Oyo state could still fall for such cheap lies and political blackmail as political tools aimed at dissuading unsuspecting members of the public.
“Even their acclaimed stronghold, wherever that means to them is now firmly under PDP because in Oyo state, it is not just about political parties and politicking, it is primarily about delivery of good governance under a purposeful leadership and that leadership is what the PDP has provided and will continue to provide which is why the people passionately love Governor Makinde and the PDP. They should continue in their self destructive adventure while we continue to bring more happiness to our people.” The PDP stated.
Without feigning ignorance, pretence or exhibiting ego, it is practically impossible for an average Nigerian to live without borrowing. Aside joblessness, the salary of most of the working class is equally insignificant in the face of high cost of items in the market. Arguably, most of the working class spent their salary before pay day. Many even went ahead to borrow money to balance the backlog of debt .That is the orchestrated precarious and messy economy we have found ourselves. The salary has no more value and consequently, majority depend on loans to make the ends meet. It is pathetic, worrisome and disgusting. The take home cannot take workers home.
Stemming from the above, it has become an order for people to borrow money to meet their needs. From my little knowledge of survival, people borrow money from cooperative societies or banks.There are also some individuals who have turned lenders. They lend money and in return, receive both the principal and the interest which most often than not, are outrageous. In the absence of alternative, the “helpless needies” reluctantly accepted the humongous interest. Beggars may have no choice. And for how long are those in need would wait for the biblical manna !
A friend of mine once enlightened me about the HARAM nature of collecting loans that attract interest. I earnestly enjoyed his sermon but the feasibility of loan without interest is better left for a future discussion. Some loans are so urgent that waiting for procedure may spell doom. The issue of overdraft from banks is another nauseating factor. How many people have access to overdraft ?!
Based on these bereaucracy and in a bid to prevent insults from friends and relations, people now prefer the digital lenders. And, truly, it is working. Jocularly and logically, nobody wants to eat any meal prepared by his enemies for fear of poison but what do we do when the friends we trust had nothing to prepare and offer us! Except one wants to embark on hunger strike but that is perilous. Starvation distorts rational thinking. In a situation of economic malady, abnormality could be circumstantially normalized. One can eat pork in the absence of any other alternative. Ask the adherents of the religious sects that see pork as abomination and forbidden food.
Technology has made borrowing easier and digital lending has become an alternative option to bank loans. All you have got to do is to acquire a phone and you will be amazed about the number of loan adverts. Loaning has been categorized by the online lenders, depending on your financial status which would be verified through your bank details. Your worth and credibility is determined within a twinkle of an eye. Alert enters within minute and instantly, one is relieved; having secured the weapon to settle immediate needs.There is nothing like principle when your family is hungry. The situation is terribly bad to the extent that people have become chronic debtors in order to be responsible and responsive to their families. So, survival depends on loans. The good thing about loan is if it is invested in lucrative businesses but here we are, what business can one invest in while the stomach infrastructure is nil !
It is a metaphor that people collect loans with so much zeal but refund with reluctance while some default. Really, every business is a risk and this brings to fore, the issue of trust and fraud.
From the knowledge of logic, a prospective borrower who willingly avails the lenders with his correct data may not have any sinister motive to defraud. Requisite to loaning, the bio-data so presented are verified to ascertain its’veracity. It could be concluded therefore that the mindset to default is not predetermined. However, lending companies need to get back their money. Thus, the need to employ minimal force and certain tactics. Before I dwell into that, permit to dwell swiftly on internal sabotage.
From the explanation of a friend, the staff of most of these lenders are fraudsters. They carry out their nefarious acts because they have access to your account details. Once you applied for loans, your account details – name, bank, number, BVN , expiry date of your ATM and the three figure security number at the back of your ATM are no more safe. In this case, they can message one to pay your loan into certain unverified personal accounts; having privy to your loan amount and the time frame and data. The case becomes more worrisome with different staff attending to you at different times. That makes it impossible to identify any particular staff whom one must have paid into his account. This repayment into the personal accounts of the staff is at the detriment of the companies. The staff bombard one with different messages at midnight between 11pm and 3am; apparently, nocturnal. One common features of online lenders is the influx of scammers. In all honesty, it is difficult for someone who is not privy to your data to scam. But the case is different as soon as one opted for online loans. Therefore, the staff of these online companies who have an unhindered access to your details do scam and usually use young girls who have sweet and seductive voices.
However, in an attempt to enforce loan repayment, most of the lenders try to auto-debit the ATM linked to the profile while some resort to blackmailing, derogatory messages to the public and threat. This attitude calls to question, the privacy of the borrowers and the audacity of the lenders to bring the personality of the borrower into disrepute and public ridicule. The emanating questions at this juncture is the legality of reporting the defaulters to the world.
Does this amount to breach of customers’ privacy ? What is the position of regulatory agency? Does the term of agreement entered into during the process of online application of loan binding in a court of law ? Can the customers institute any legal action against the lending firms for broadcasting them to the World ? Does the social media have the right to provide a platform where customers details are beamed to the world by the lenders? Does the interest attached to the loan not too much? Is it right for the loan agency to deduct interest upfront ? Will a defaulter whose image has been battered, referred to thief and fraudster pay the loan again? Was he informed that the data he provided would be used to malign his integrity despite the confidentiality promised?
Through interaction with the public, I was able to deduce the fact that borrowers default owing to humongous interest. How do you expect a person who collected three thousand naira loan to pay five thousand naira back within seven days! The interest is almost the double of the principal. No commercial bank in Nigeria gets that. Meanwhile, people are compelled by circumstance to agree with the terms of agreement on abstract but with a reality of zero. I understand the Central Bank Of Nigeria, CBN has a regulation for the operation of these lenders but what mechanism did CBN put in place to stop the extortion in term of this humongous interest?
From my researches, any company that wishes to carry on the business of digital lending must obtain a Money Lending License in any of the 36 states of Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory. A license obtained under the Money Lending Law of a state permits money lending activities only within that state. That shows that there are regulations. The Financial Services Regulation and Coordinating Committee (FSRCC) is a non-statutory body that was set up to provide top level forum through which the five statutory regulators meet quarterly with a view to preventing regulatory arbitrage. These regulatory institutions are – Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)Nigerian Insurance Commission (NAICOM)National Pension Commission (PenCom)Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC). The Investment and Securities Tribunal, Nigerian Stock Exchange, Debt Management Office, Chartered Institute of Bankers, Association of Issuing Houses and Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers also provide additional regulatory support and assist in enforcing market discipline.
Dwelling on market discipline, it is absolutely wrong for the lenders to subject the defaulter to pubic ridicule. I agree that recovery of loan is not easy especially where collateral and minimum documentation are absent. However, that is not a license to send messages that usually describe defaulters in a very strong negative terms and curses. That is a violation of right of privacy as enshrined under section 37 of 1999 constitution as well as Nigeria Data Protection Agency, NDPR(2019). Such policy of recovery and harassment is an abberation, defamation invasion and barbaric.
In my opinion, Government, through the various agencies need to act on this menace to stop the fragrant abuse. Similarly, the social media like face book, messenger and watzap need to be cautioned about providing platform for hate speech and derogatory messages.

A 46 years old man, Olusegun Oluwole has been apprehended by men of Ogun state Police Command for allegedly forcefully having carnal knowledge of his 17 years old daughter (name withheld).
The suspect was arrested following a complaint lodged at Ibara police station by the victim, who came in the company of some so safe corps men and reported that while she was sleeping in their one-room apartment at Amolaso area of Abeokuta at about 11:30 pm, her father having observed that others are fast asleep suddenly grabbed her and forcefully had s€x with her with a threat to kill her if she refused to allow him.Â
Upon the report, the DPO Ibara division, CSP Bernard Egbondiya, quickly detailed his detectives to the scene, where the suspect was promptly arrested.
On interrogation, the father of six, who confessed to the crime pleaded for forgiveness, claiming not knowing what came over him when he committed the crime.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole has ordered the transfer of the suspect to state Criminal investigation Departments for further investigation and possible prosecution, while the victim was taken to general hospital for medical treatment.
The Federal Government has dragged the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, to the National Industrial Court over the lingering strike.
This is contained in a letter from the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige dated 8th September, 2023.
The letter is titled ‘Forwarding of a Referral Instrument in the trade dispute between the Federal government and ASUU’.
Chris Ngige said the referral was raised in line with the power vested in him by the Trade dispute resolution mechanism and the provision of Section 17 of the Trade Dispute Act of 2004.
ASUU began an indefinite strike on the 14th of February and the many negotiations between it and the government have been unable to end the industrial action.
As at the time of filing this report, ASUU President, Emmanuel Osodeke, has not reacted to the government’s action but a top Union Leader said the lecturers await the court’s decision on the matter.
