Osun LG Poll: No Threat Can Stop Legal Disbandment of Kangaroo Council- Osun PDP Boasts

The Pain State Chapter of Peoples Democratic Party PDP has maintained that illegality of Osun kangaroo local government election is a shared position of key stakeholders and threats of impeachment from a failed legal adviser can’t sustain or validate an illegally conducted election.

Reacting to a threat of impeachment if the Governor-elect dissolved the local government council, the State Caretaker Chairman of the PDP, Dr Akindele Adekunle said the councils would be legally disbanded as soon as the new administration takes over the state, asking what manner of a Legal Adviser will wrongly advised his party to toe the path of illegality.

” It is trite in law that you cannot attain legality with an illegal foundation. The state electoral commission violated its own laws alongside the Electoral Act 2022 in the conduct of the local government election. This reality is known across party lines and even many leaders within the ruling APC are opposed to the OSIEC’s action.

” Those supporting the illegal action like the legal adviser places personal greed above state interest or how do you justify somebody holding position of a State Legal Adviser, Local government party caretaker chairman and now elected council chairman for Irepodun council area. Because of his greed which has led to mass defection from APC to PDP, the so called Legal Adviser cannot rightly advised his party against committing illegality.

” Aside existing judicial action, we want to reaffirm that the illegally elected councils will not stand. The incoming administration will deploy all constitutional means to get rid of usurpers who wilfully breach the law for personal greed and avarice. We will also institute necessary legal action against those who knowingly breached the laws and caused the state loss to the tune of billions of naira”, the statement concluded.

Ogun 2023: Amosun will fall, fail again – Abiodun boasts

The Ogun State governor, Dapo Abiodun, has hit back at his predecessor in office, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, declaring that he would fail in his anti party politics aimed to scuttle his reelection bid in 2023.

Abiodun who flayed Amosun for playing “dirty politics” and openly declaring to work for the emergence of a governorship candidate of another party next year, said that the former governor would fall once again as he did in the 2019 governorship election.

The immediate past governor at an interview recently declared that he would work against Governor Abiodun and support Biyi Otegbeye, the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) come 2023.

But Abiodun during a meeting with members of the Nigeria Automobile Technicians Association (NATA), held at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Abeokuta, on Friday, dismissed the former governor’s outburst as an “empty threat of a falling man”, adding that “my second term is already ordained by God”.

The governor noted that it is a pity that the former governor has quickly forgotten how his adopted candidate lost woefully during the last general election, even when he was still in office as the governor.

Abiodun insisted that he is not perturbed by his predecessor’s empty threat, as similar threat in 2019 did not amount to anything,

“The same thing that person did in 2019 and failed woefully, even when he was still the governor in the state, he is now preparing to fail again and even fall down.

“We are waving good bye to him now, he is not even a candidate of any political party; he is nothing and he is saying he will stop a governor that God has ordained, he will definitely fail again by the grace of God,” Abiodun stated.

He noted further that being a governor is not anybody’s inheritance, adding that he is governor today because of the divine intervention of the Almighty God who ensured his victory in 2019.

“Being a governor is not a family inheritance. I am not a king, I am G
governor today because of your support, but, there are some people who are hell bent on fighting God. They fought us before the election, they even went to court from May to December, 2019, they still failed. The Almighty God who ensured my victory in 2019 is still on the throne,” Abiodun added.

The governor who described the automobile technicians as part of the economy who are responsible for looking after people’s vehicles, said that “if they are removed from the automobile value chain, we will be stuck, so, they are extremely important to the transportation value chain and by extension the state economy”

While noting that he will provide the Mechanic Villages with electricity transformers, also noted that the automobile technicians in the state would be provided with soft loans to help their business.

“As we bring investors here, as they come here to live, work and play, their vehicles will need servicing, we must support them to provide those services.

“I will provide you with transformers, I am going to ensure that we put together a scheme for them, like we have the Oko’owo Dapo for the women, these are people who have a means of income, at times, they need to stock on maybe motor parts or tools for their profession.

“So, we will provide some kind of soft loan that will allow them to generate money, transformers will be provided for them, we will visit their Mechanic Villages and grade them when the season is more stable and when the rain begins to subside,” he said.

The Governor also disclosed that his administration would also look at the possibility of giving land to the association for the siting of new mechanic villages.

Over 30 Million Will Access Digital Certificates – WAEC

The West African Examination Council, has said its digital certificate platform will enable over 30 million West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination holders to share the original copies of their certificates from anywhere in the world.

The Head, National office, WAEC, Mr Patrick Areghan, disclosed this in his address at the official launching of the WAEC digital certificate platform, on Thursday.

Areghan said, “The digital certificate platform, which is currently available to those who have taken the West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination as far back as 1999 till date, will enable over 30 million certificate holders to access and share the original copies of their certificates from anywhere in the world. Those of 1970 – 1998 will be attended to shortly.”

The WAEC head noted that the development of the new digital certificate platform was in line with the council’s continuous record of meeting global needs by using cutting-edge technology to improve candidates’ experiences as they seek to continue their education.

He said, “The West African Examinations Council is committed to its mission of encouraging academic and moral excellence, promoting sustainable human resource development and international cooperation. It is committed to prompt service delivery, and today, it has taken an important step further with the development of the digital certificate platform.

“We are evolving to meet the demands of a changing world. We have migrated from physical registration of candidates to online registration; online verification of results and online result printouts, and others.

“The development of the new digital certificate platform is in line with WAEC’s continuous record of meeting global needs by using cutting-edge technology to improve candidates’ experiences as they seek to continue their education.

President Buhari Mourns Ekiti Speaker, Calls Him Soldier Of Democracy

President Muhammadu Buhari has joined the Government and people of Ekiti State in mourning the passing of the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Funminiyi Afuye, who died on Wednesday in Ado-Ekiti, aged 66 years.

President Buhari said the late Speaker had distinguished himself as a key soldier for democracy and was widely admired as a humble grassroots political leader who relentlessly championed the interests of his people.

“He served the State and its people diligently and devoted his life to uplifting common good,” said the President.

He prayed for the repose of his soul and fortitude on the part of his family, friends, admirers and the entire people of the State in bearing the loss.

Ex-Lagos Attorney-General, Shasore Charged To Court For Alleged $100,000 Fraud

The Lagos Zonal Command of the EFCC, on Thursday, October 20, 2022, arraigned a former Attorney-General of Lagos State, Olasupo Shasore, SAN on a four-count charge bordering on money laundering to the tune of $100, 000(One Hundred Thousand Dollars) before Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos.

Olasupo Shasore, SAN, on or about the 18th day of November, 2014 in Lagos, allegedly induced one Olufolakemi Adelore to commit an offence to wit; accepting cash payment of the sum of US100, 000.00 (One Hundred Thousand United States Dollars) without going through a financial institution, which sum exceeded the amount authorized by Law.

The offence is contrary to Section 78(c) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011 (as amended) and punishable under section 16(6) of the same Act.

He pleaded “not guilty” to the charges.

Protest Rocks Poly Ibadan As Students’ Union Election Held Amid Tight Security

The Polytechnic Ibadan had yesterday conducted election to various elective posts of the students’ union.

According to ODUDUWA NEWS correspondent who monitored the election that was collated at the Assembly Hall, security men from Department of State Security Service, DSS, Nigerian Army, officials of Southwestern Security codenamed Amotekun as well as the school security were seen stationed at the school premises to forestall breakdown of laws.

The collation of the electronic voting was done at the Assembly Hall as read out by the Dean of Students Affairs.

Oloyede Okiki Joshua was declared the president-elect having polled 1,968 as against his counterparts; Oyeniyi Tunde Ibarahim, Adeosun Abiodun, Bello Taofeek who polled 1,902, 595, 401 respectively.

Meanwhile, the aftermath of the election has resulted into a protest rocking the school premises.

Oyo Lawmaker, Dele Adeola Holds Public Hearing On Land Control And Administration Bill 2020

The honourable member representing Iseyin/Itesiwaju State Constituency, Hon. Dele Adeola has held public hearing on the bill he sponsored at Oyo State House of Assembly titled: Land Administration and Control Bill, 2020 in order to guarantee that all land-related laws are consistent, updated and easily accessible to the people of the State.

The public hearing which was held at House of Chiefs, Oyo State Secretariat is usually called for whenever there is a need to incorporate opinions and views from members of the public on any legislative matter.

Speaking to the stakeholders, the Chairman Committee on Lands, Housing and Survey, Hon. Dele Adeola, averred that the land disputes have become a major problem in Oyo State and are now pervasive, adding that the House of Assembly has taken action to proactively to stop the menace.

According to ODUDUWA NEWS, he claimed that the “land is a major factor of productivity in which development of a nation is centred on, particularly in the aspect of human development. He opined that everybody’s wish is acquisition of expanse of land and this makes it a very important aspect that all stakeholders must look into.

The bill if enacted into law according to the honourable, he continued, will ensure that a Land Administration Committee is established in each of the local governmentareas in the state as well as at the federal level.

While addressing the Speaker, Debo Ogundoyin on the bill, he averred that the land disputes have been causing alot of economic disaster to the states as a result of people falling victims of fraudulent activities perpetrated by land grabbers and impersonators.

He further claimed that the citizens of the State have been oppressed for a long period of time in the hands of these land syndicates and that series of issues bothering on land disputes are currently before the courts, including land grabs, land ownership, boundaries, and acquisition collapsed buildings, among other issues.

“The House of Assembly enacted laws including the Real Properties Protection Law 2016, the Survey Law 2008, and the Public Land Acquisition Law 2000 in an effort to combat these threats.

“All of these laws are intended to address issues relating to land in the state as it is very crucial at this point in time to take drastic steps to curb growing trend of land disputes. After some time, the 9th Assembly realized that in order for the state’s current land-related laws to fulfill their intended functions, a new legislation is required. This influenced how a bill was presented here.

“The House plans to integrate all land-related legislation in the State to make them more easily accessible, including the Real Properties Protection Law of 2016, the Survey Law of 2008, the State Law of 2000, the Land Development (Road) of 2000, and others, for convenience of reference”, said Adeola.

Among the stakeholders who graced the ocassion to present their views and inputs at the event were the Ministry of Land, Housing and Survey, Oyo State Housing Corporation, Office of the Surveyor General, Nigeria Institution of Surveyor, Oyo State and other professional bodies and traditional rulers led by Onpetu of Ijeru, Oba Sunday Oyediran, Oba Jimoh Olajide Titiloye; Olu of Igbo-Ora, High Chief Yusuf Ayoola; Basorun of Oyo among others.

Also in attendance were the Speaker of Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Debo Ogundoyin, Hon Olatunde Kehinde (Akinyele II); Vice-Chairman of the Committee, Hon Sanjo Adedoyin; Majority leader, Hon Simeon Oyeleke, Hon Kazeem Olayanju, Hon Femi Julius, Hon Akintunde Olajide and other lawmakers.

Fake EFCC Operative Arrested In Lagos For Defrauding Belgium National €45,000

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have arrested a 29-year old Ume Ifechukwu Clinton for impersonation, computer related fraud, obtaining by false pretence and money laundering.

Clinton was arrested on October 18, 2022 at No 46 Atoke Gbadebo Street, Isheri, Lagos, by operatives of the EFCC, following a news story published by an online portal: foundation for investigative journalism narrating how Clinton defrauded Axelle Mahieu, an educator working as a caregiver in Brussels, Belgium.

The victim was surfing through her Facebook page in November 2021, when she saw that someone had sent her a message. The message was from Ume Ifechukwu Clinton, who introduced himself as “a friend of a friend”.

As they continued chatting in the following days, Clinton told Mahieu that he was an official of the EFCC, with a fake Identity Card and Nigerian Passport as proofs.

After several months of video calls and gaining Mathieu’s trust, Clinton allegedly proposed a cryptocurrency business to her, assuring her of huge profit and secured capital.

After convincing the Belgian, Clinton ended up defrauding her of €45,000.

Police Fires Tear Gas As Youths Display Coffins At #EndSARS Memorial Procession

ODUDUWA NEWS has just gathered that Police had fired tear gas at some youths who stormed Lekki Toll Gate early morning of today to embark on what they called the “remembrance of their fallen heroes”.

The youth participants at the second #EndSARS Memorial Procession showed up with dummy coffins, flowers and stained Nigerian flags.

Recall, the #EndSARS movement was led by Nigerian youths across the country to register their displeasure against brutality, Indscriminate arrest as well as extra judicial killings usually perpetrated by the disbanded unit of Nigeria Police Force, Special Anti-Robbery Squad SARS.

The procession passed through the Lekki Tollgate, the scene of the killings that took place on Tuesday, October 20, 2020.
