Some youths, under the auspices of Afenifere Yoruba Youth Organisation of Nigeria, staged a protest in Akure, the Ondo State capital, on Tuesday, against the leadership of the acting leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political association, Afenifere, Pa Ayo Adebanjo.
The protesters, who stormed the residence of the National Leader of the group, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, in Akure, said they had passed a vote of no confidence in Adebanjo’s leadership.
They carried placards with various inscriptions, such as ‘Pa Fasoranti, pls revoke the mandate you gave Pa Adebanjo now;’ ‘Our vote of no confidence stands;’ ‘Afenifere must be restructured now;’ ‘Pa Fasoranti, please rescue Afenifere;’ ‘Ayo Adebanjo must go;’ ‘Pa Ayo Adebanjo: time to step aside from Afenifere.’
Speaking, the leader of the protesters, Eric Oluwole, said the group considered Fasoranti as the authentic national leader of the Afenifere and called on Adebanjo to immediately step down on his capacity as the acting leader.
The Oyo State Government has vowed to prosecute those it described as undesirable elements, who perpetrate recruitment scams with the sole intent of defrauding innocent public.
This is coming on the heels of a purported list circulating on social media claiming the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, OYOSUBEB, has started its recruitment process.
In a statement on Tuesday, the Executive Chairman, Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (OYOSUBEB), Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran, advised the public to be vigilant and never deal with scammers who pose as recruitment agents for the Board.
Adeniran said the management has also begun moves to identify those perpetrating these fraudulent activities, promising that when caught they will be handed over to appropriate quarters.
He also cautioned job-seekers saying, “please shun any purported list, circulating on the social media claiming we are recruiting”.
The statement added that OYOSUBEB would go through due and transparent process, in its recruitment exercise.
“On repeated occasions, we have cautioned the general public to be vigilant and circumspect not to deal with scammers who pose as recruitment agents or staff members of OYOSUBEB. They collect huge sums of money from unsuspecting victims with the promise to provide them employment at OYOSUBEB,” the statement reads.
“Today, we saw a list of names published by some fraudulent people, claiming those are the people invited for the OYOSUBEB job interview. On the list, their interview was scheduled for Tuesday, April 18 and Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at an unknown venue. We are on it and anyone caught disseminating this kind of information, will be dealt with, according to the law”, Adeniran said.
Therefore, Adeniran emphatically stated that OYOSUBEB is not conducting any recruitment at the moment, and importantly that it does not conduct recruitment exercises through back door channels.
“When OYOSUBEB plans to expand its workforce and seek to recruit competent hands to carry out the task of improving the State’s education sector, the public can be rest assured that we would follow appropriate channels and processes in doing so; including advertisements on public channels of communication, followed by rigorous screening, interviews and examination exercises”, Adeniran said.
The Executive Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke has expressed solidarity with his Adamawa state counterpart, Ahmadu Fintiri,
describing recent development in the state as ” a serious threat to our nascent democracy”
In a statement issued at Osogbo on Tuesday, Governor Adeleke expressed shock at the undemocratic drama and described the attempt to truncate collation of results and announce rightful winner as “a direct assault on electoral democracy” which should never be allowed to stand.
“I stand by democracy, rule of law and due process as stipulated by the constitution and the Electoral Act.
We oppose any shenanigans to tamper with the will of Adamawa people who have the inalienable rights to chose their leader.
“Democracy is premised on people’s choice freely expressed through the ballot.
That process has now being standardized and rig-proved with BVAS machines which further strengthened safety of voters’ choice. We stand by the Constitution and the Electoral Act”, Governor Adeleke affirmed.
He however commended the swift intervention of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) which nullified the illegal declaration of a winner before the conclusion of collation of votes.
“I hail INEC’s intervention. The Commission did well to have acted to save the day. I however call on the Commission to speed up the process of votes collation. Any further delay may strengthen the hand of those who want to suppress the will of the people.
“INEC should fast track the collation and announce the rightful winner. Only that route can salvage the serious challenges facing our democracy. We must join hands to stop erosion of democratic practices and values “, Governor Adeleke concluded.
The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has celebrated his daughter, Olajumoke, on her birthday.
Ooni of Ife shared a picture of his daughter via his verified Instagram page on Tuesday.

Operatives of Ondo State Police command have arrested two notorious hoodlums identified as Sodeeq Adegoke, 24 and Abubakar Ajibola, 24, for allegedly robbing a student, Yusuf Joseph, of the sum of N150,000.
During interrogation, one of the suspects narrated how they lured the victim to a deserted area where they threatened to break his head if he withholds the transfer from his bank account to them.
The suspects will be arraigned in court when investigations have been concluded.
Ondo Police Command said seven suspects have been arrested for stoning a 35-year-old driver to death on 10 April.
ODUDUWA NEWS recalls that the driver, Olorunfemi Tope, had in an accident killed one person and injured others along Ijoka road in Akure.
The driver, who was allegedly labelled a ‘Yahoo boy’ by an angry mob, was subsequently lynched to death and the video of the incident was shared on the internet.
Police spokesperson in the state, Olufunmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, told journalists on Monday in Akure that seven people were arrested in connection with the incident.
According to Mrs Odunlami-Omisanya, out of the seven, Amos Victor, Boboye Ismail, Olatunji Samuel and Farotimi Pelumi, are the principal suspects.
He said they were among those captured in the video attacking the deceased.
He said the suspects would be taken to court on charges of arson and murder, after the conclusion of the investigation.
“We have said it without number that jungle justice is illegal and against the law.
“When there is an accident our focus is how to rescue the victims by taking them to the nearest hospitals for first aid and never take laws into our hands.
“It’s wrong for anybody to sniff the life of anybody; we should allow the law to take its course because it’s not in anybody’s place to kill anyone,” the spokesperson said.
The remains of the Uber driver, Temitope Olorunfemi, who was beaten and stoned to death last week in Akure, the capital of Ondo State, have been buried.
His corpse was moved from a private morgue in Akure metropolis, the state capital, by his friends to Oda axis, where his body was interred.
While his body was lowered, his friends could not hide their feelings as they wailed all through the interment process.
Meanwhile, some commercial motorcyclists were attacked by the grieving friends while en route to the cemetery with his casket.
The deceased was beaten and stoned to death on Easter Monday after crushing some road users and injuring six others over alleged reckless driving.
His killers accused him of being an internet fraudster, commonly known as “Yahoo Boy.”
Earlier, some suspects who were alleged to be involved in the killing of the deceased, were paraded at the police headquarters in the state.
A 33-year-old woman, Olaide Adekunle, has been arrested by men of the Ogun State police command for allegedly selling off her 18-month-old baby to a yet-to-be-identified buyer at the rate of #600,000.
The suspect was arrested following a complain lodged at Sango divisional headquarters by the woman’s husband, Nureni Rasaq, who reported that his wife, Olaide Adekunle, left home to Lagos on the 15th of March 2023 with their baby girl by name Moridiat Rasaq, but returned home without the baby. He stated further that all efforts to know what happened to the baby proved abortive as the woman was unable to give any reasonable account of whereabout of the said baby.
Upon the report, the DPO Sango division, CSP Dahiru Saleh, detailed his detectives to go after the said woman, and she was promptly arrested. On interrogation, the suspect confessed that she has sold her baby to someone in Lagos at the rate of six hundred thousand naira (#600,000).
When asked the reason for her action, she stated that she borrowed money from a microfinance bank, and when she was unable to pay back the money, the bank agents started disturbing her and threatening to deal decisively with her. It was consequent upon this that she ran to Lagos and started hawking sachet water. She said it was while hawking that she met a man who introduced her to the woman that eventually bought the child in Lagos .
Confirming the arrest, the spokesperson of the state police command, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the acting Commissioner of Police, DCP Babakura Muhammed, has directed that the suspect be transferred to State Criminal Investigation Departments for further investigation and possible recovery of the baby. 0
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) said it has arrested a pregnant woman, Rabetu Abdulrasak, 24, and a cripple, Shehu Adams in possession of illicit drugs in Edo.
According to NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, over 14 kilogrammes of assorted illicit drugs were recovered from the two on Saturday in Agbede, Etsako West Local Government Area of the state.
Babafemi said in a statement on Sunday in Abuja that drugs recovered from them included cannabis, methamphetamine, tramadol and swinol.
He also announced the arrest of one Isoyo Iveren-Susan, a 22-year-old HND female student of Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro in Ogun.
The NDLEA spokesperson said Iveren-Susan was arrested on Saturday opposite 2nd Gate of the institution dealing in illicit drugs.
Babafemi said that 1,100ML of codeine-based cough syrup and 283grams of cannabis were recovered from her.
“This is just as operatives in Lagos arrested two suspects: Nonso Peter, 21, and Bright Chibike, 23, with 43.4 kilogrammes of cannabis at Ile-Epo, Abule Egba area of the state on Friday.
“Also, one Muhamadu Yusuf was equally arrested same day with 8,000 capsules of tramadol inside a commercial bus along Kano-Katsina road,” he said.
Babafemi added that NDLEA operatives in Kaduna State on Thursday raided a clandestine laboratory where mist potassium citrate was being produced in a residential apartment at 16, Sabon Gari, Zaria.
Babafemi said that the owner of the laboratory, Christopher Agodi was arrested and 102 cartons containing 2,448 bottles of the substance recovered.
He said that another suspect, Salisu Abdullahi, 25, was arrested along Abuja-Kaduna road with 11.7kg cannabis concealed in two jerrycans, which he was conveying from Port Harcourt to Kano.
“Similarly, anti-narcotic officers acting on a tip-off, arrested two suspects: Aminu Saudi, 45 and Abdullahi Sani, 35, at Ogbese, Ondo State, with 11 jumbo bags containing 211kg of cannabis concealed in rice chaffs.
“This was closely followed by the destruction of six hectares of cannabis farm in Uso forest in the state on Thursday, April 13,” he said.
The Ondo State High Court, sitting in Ondo town, has ordered the deposition of the Olu-Oke of Oke-Igbo in the Ile-Oluji/Oke-Igbo Local Government of the state, Oba Babajide Oluwole.
The court nullified the appointment of the traditional ruler, having admitted that Oba Oluwole, who was crowned as the monarch of the community in 2018, was not a member of the ruling house which turn was, to fill the then-vacant stool of the town.
Two princes from the Aare Kugbaigbe Ruling House, Rufus Adekanye and Temitope Adeoye, Head and Secretary of the House respectively, had approached the court to challenge the enthronement of Oba Oluwole by the state government.
The kingmakers were also joined in the suit.
According to the suit filed by their lawyer, Mr Sola Ebiseni, the claimants claimed that the defendant was not a member of the Aare Kugbaigbe Ruling House which turn it was to present a candidate to the throne, saying the stool is still vacant.
In a judgement delivered by Justice Ademola Enikuemehin, the court admitted that Oluwole was not a member of the ruling house which turn was to produce the king and also not qualified to be presented as the kingship candidate.
In the judgement, the judge ordered that “the Olu-Oke of Oke-Igbo Chieftaincy in the Ile-Oluji/Oke-Igbo Local Government Area of Ondo State is subject to the Declaration in Part two of Justice Adeloye Judicial Commission Of Inquiry On Chieftaincy Matters and the Chiefs Law CAP 27 Volume 1 Laws of Ondo State 2006.
