Ogun Governor, Dapo Abiodun Implores Motorists To Be Safety Conscious

The Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun has implored motorists plying Sagamu-Interchange-Abeokuta Road to be safety conscious.

This was contained in a statement signed and released today by the Governor via his official twitter handle, “it has become necessary, as a precautionary move, for me to urge the motoring public using the Sagamu-Interchange-Abeokuta Road as well as others currently being constructed by our Administration, to drive carefully on these roads.

“Engineers working on these roads would usually seal off one of two dualised lanes, so that as work continues on one, traffic flow may be managed on the other. This warrants a strict “no parking” policy on the open lane on which motorists are strongly advised not to overtake other vehicles. Also, that engineers are working on the closed lane does not preclude the need to obey instructions on speeding, diversions, and careful driving around construction vehicles and equipment.

“Our Administration is keen on delivering these many road projects in target time, but I must plead with the good people of Ogun State to bear with us as we ensure they are completed and in the best form”.

“Just like yesterday!
Hmm! Yesterday, today or tomorrow
Yesterday is gone!
Today is what we are celebrating
Is it true that yesterday has gone…
Yesterday, when mama screamed
Screaming in anticipation
Anticipation! Only God knew
The All-knower knew what will be the outcome
The screaming continued…
Screaming as requested by the Obstetrician
Obstetrician, following his laid down theories
Only God knew the powers beyond theories
God, looking at the Obstetrician,
Having known His intention
whether to prove the theories wrong or not
Suddenly! Mama heard the baby crying
crying to be welcomed to the world…
The world filled with ups and downs
Wow! what a successful job
Exclaimed the Obstetrician!
God in His abode, looking at the Obstetrician!
who did not know the powers that go beyond science
The crying continued….
Oh! She is a female
Thanks to Almighty God, coming out from Mama’s mouth
Hmmm! A bouncing baby girl
just came to the world,
the family of Agberemi
giving Mama hope of joy
Mama continued looking
Looking for the hope
hope in the shining and beautiful
bouncing baby girl
Yesterday has gone!
Mama continued staring at the baby girl
Looking what tomorrow will be
tomorrow when the baby grows
growing to fulfill mama’s hope
Wow! the hope has come
Today has brought Mama’s long yearning tomorrow
Today is the D-Day
The celebration of a jewel
The glorious day
in the glorious week,
the glorious month
in the glorious year
Today is your birthday
And u feel pretty good
Your body’s still working
You should touch wood
Your wrinkles few and far between
You may not look 18 anymore
Still you get pimples like a teen
I’m glad you feel as fresh as ever
Today is fulfilling your tomorrow
tomorrow filled with joy cum happiness
Oh! The sky is moon and sun,
The river is water
The fragrance is rose flower
The joy, happiness, funfilled life and prosperity
shall be the hope of Mama’s tomorrow”.

The vote of thanks was given by one of the members of the NGO, Omotolani Lolade and thereafter the programme was brought to an end.

Lagos Set to Dislodge Illegal Slabs – Agric Commissioner

Lagos State Government is set to embark on the dislodgement of illegal slabs, as well as the monitoring of all veterinary premises across the State, from Tuesday, 1st September 2020 in furtherance of the sanitisation and reform of the red meat value chain.

The State Acting Commissioner for Agriculture, Ms. Abisola Olusanya, who made this known over the weekend at the re-inauguration of the Monitoring, Enforcement and Compliance (MEC) Team of the Ministry, noted that the exercise would also involve the monitoring of meat transportation and enforce stray animal control.

She added that the dislodgement is necessary, especially as the State remains particular about producing wholesome and healthy meat for its residents while simultaneously ensuring that the streets are free of stray animals.

Olusanya recalled that even though the dislodgement of illegal slaughterhouses had been on-going in the past three years, the need to strictly enforce meat transportation using only the designated vehicles as well as stray animals control, which had lately become more rampant, cannot be overemphasised.

The Acting Commissioner noted that the team would monitor and effect zero-tolerance for illegal slaughter slabs and ensure proper regulation of veterinary activities Statewide in conjunction with Lagos State Private Veterinary Premises Registration Authority.

She pointed out that the menace of stray animals on major roads and streets were also on the high, adding that such animals destroy various ornamental plants, shrubs and trees of aesthetic value within the metropolis, thereby increasing the risk of accidents and environmental degradation as well as the prevalence of the outbreak of zoonotic diseases that pose major threats to human health.

Olusanya also disclosed that all stakeholders including members of the Lagos State Butchers Association, Abattoir Concessionaire Forum, Lagos State Sheep and Goat Association, Lagos State Ram and Goat Sellers Association, Eko Refrigerated Meat Van, Eko Live Animal Transport and the Lagos State chapter of the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association among others had been well informed and carried along to allow for the smooth operation of the MEC unit.

The Chairman, Lagos State Butchers Association, Mr. Bamidele Kazeem pledged the association’s full support for the State Government’s latest initiative to sanitise the red meat value chain.

Alabi assured that registered abattoirs and meat markets are already in compliance with all the laws of the State government concerning the reform of the red meat value chain, maintaining that there is no fear on their part of being affected by the activities of the Monitoring, Enforcement and Compliance Team.

In the same vein, the Secretary of the Lagos State Abattoir Concessionaires Forum, Mr. Hamzat Kareem, observed that the re-inauguration of the Monitoring, Enforcement and Compliance Team would curb the menace of illegal abattoirs as they pose a huge threat to legal abattoir operations.
