New VC: Movement Restricted As Ife Indigenes Embark On Protest, Block OAU Main Gate

Following the recent announcement of the new Vice-Chancellor of the University, it has been confirmed to ODUDUWA NEWS some indigenes of Ile-Ife have barricaded the campus gate of the University to protest against the appointment of Prof. Simeon Bamire of the Department of Agricultural Economics.

It was learnt that the indigenes embarked on protest when they learnt that the recently announced Vice Chancellor is not an indigene of Ile-Ife. This has led to the closure of the University’s main gate and restriction of movement in and out of the University campus.

It should be recalled that the Indigenes of Ile Ife had earlier appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to allow a competent son of the soil to be appointed as the next substantive Vice-Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University.

As at the time of filing this report is that the University main gate has been reopened for movement.
