IBADAN – Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, on Saturday visited the pupils and teachers recently rescued after spending 56 days in captivity following their abduction in Oriire Local Government Area of the state.
The governor met with the victims and their families, expressing gratitude to God for the successful rescue operation and commending the efforts of the Nigerian Armed Forces, other security agencies, local authorities, and all stakeholders who worked tirelessly to secure their release.
All 39 abducted pupils were rescued alive, while five of the seven kidnapped teachers also regained their freedom. The governor described the outcome as a significant relief, although he acknowledged the pain of the lives lost during the ordeal.

Makinde assured residents that his administration would continue to strengthen security across the state and work closely with security agencies to prevent similar incidents. He reiterated his commitment to protecting lives and property and ensuring that criminal elements have no safe haven in Oyo State.
The governor also sympathised with the families of those who did not survive the tragic incident, praying that God grants them the strength to bear the irreparable loss.
“While we celebrate the safe return of the children and the surviving teachers, our hearts remain with the families of those who paid the ultimate price. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten,” he said.
The abduction, which occurred in Oriire Local Government Area, sparked widespread concern across Oyo State and the country, prompting sustained security operations that eventually led to the victims’ release after 56 days in captivity.

As the rescued victims begin their recovery and reunite with their loved ones, the state government has pledged to provide the necessary support to aid their rehabilitation.
May the souls of the departed rest in perfect peace.
