The Ekiti State Police Command has reportedly arrested 11 suspects in connection with an attack on Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), in Ado-Ekiti.

The arrests followed an incident that attracted public attention and raised concerns about the safety of political activists and the freedom to participate in political activities without fear of violence.

The development comes as political activities gradually intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, with renewed calls for security agencies to protect political actors and ensure peaceful political engagement.

The police investigation is expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged attack, determine the roles of the suspects and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice.
