Iseyin College Congratulates Aseyin, Says Educational Advancement Will Develop Community

The management staff and students of the College of Hygiene and Health Technology as well as the College of Education, Iseyin have congratulated the Aseyin of Iseyin, Oba Sefiu Olawale Oyebola, Adeyeri 111 on his coronation celebration.

Oba Olawale was on Thursday presented with staff of office by the Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde at the Iseyin District Grammar School (IDGS), Iseyin, in the presence of dignitaries from all walks of life.

In a statement signed by the proprietor of the two colleges, Mr Adewale Owoseeni and made available to newsmen on Friday, he said the ascension of Oba Oyebola would hasten the progress of the Iseyin community as the monarch has shown his love for educational advancement.

“Since Oba Olawale became Aseyin, he has shown so much passion for education in the community like the recent scholarship programme he gave to indigent residents of Iseyin, the free medical outreach program and other developmental programmes are also parts of his endeavors.

“Look at any developed community in the world, you will see them doing everything to achieve advancement in education, research and innovations, Iseyin has been lucky to have monarchs that are upward looking and Oba Sefiu is not an exception.”

The institution prayed for long life and a prosperous reign for Oba Adeyeri 111 and urged the residents of Iseyin to cooperate with the new monarch.

Tenant Abducts Landlord, Neighbour’s Sons Days After Renting Apartment

A yet-to-be-identified woman has allegedly kidnapped two minors who are children of her landlord and neighbour in the Sango Ota area of Ogun State.

The woman was said to have disappeared with the two kids three days after she moved into the apartment.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident to VOA News on Wednesday.

Odutola told our correspondent that the landlord, Johnson Oshinowo, reported that a woman whom he rented his apartment to on December 7, 2023 abducted his son and another neighbour’s son, who were both four years old.

He claimed that the woman who had just spent three days at the apartment has no known identity as the landlord and the house agent did not conduct a profile check before renting the apartment to her.

She said, “On December 12, 2023, at about 0835hrs, a landlord informed the police that he rented a room apartment to a woman on December, 7 and on December 11, the woman abducted his son and his neighbour’s son without any trace of their destination.

“Immediately the report was received, detectives swung into action and visited the scene to conduct preliminary inquiries.

“From the preliminary investigation, it was gathered by the detectives that the woman had only spent three days in the rented house without any known background information. It was also gathered that the landlord and house agent have no profile of the suspect.”

She disclosed further that the Commissioner of Police, CP Abiodun Alamutu, has directed a discrete investigation into the abduction to ensure that the suspect was tracked down.

“The CP has directed a discrete investigation and urged operatives to intensify their efforts to track down the suspect and rescue the children,” Odutola concluded.

Baale Ilua, 5 Others Remanded In Abolongo Prison

Chief Kilani Azeez Ajani, Baale of Ilua, along with five others, have been remanded in Abolongo Correctional Facility in Oyo town.

This comes after they were alleged, accused, and subsequently charged with assaulting and maltreating a lawyer, Barr Waheed Lawal, on November 13, 2023.

The case was determined on Thursday, December 14, 2023 at the Magistrate Court of Oyo State, situated in the Saki Magisterial District.

The charges against Baale and his associates include conspiring to commit felony with assault, causing harm to Barr. Waheed Lawal, and unlawfully assaulting and beating him with fists.

Despite being granted bail at #100,000 each with a surety, the Baale of Ilua and the five others failed to meet the bail conditions. As a result, they find themselves remanded at Abolongo prison, awaiting further legal proceedings.

Iseyin town received several signatories from all walks of life as the cronation ceremony of Aseyin of Iseyin, Oba Sefiu Olawale Oyebola Adeyeri III is currently holding. The Governor of Oyo State flanked by many political functionaries just arrived the venue of the event.

The governor arrived at the event venue in a black bus at exactly 2:10 pm on Thursday, December 14, flanked by top state officials and security personnel.

With the governor is Honorable Shina Peller, a former honourable member of the House of Representatives representing Iseyin, Kajola Iwajowa and Itesiwaju.

The governor was welcomed with encomium by the teeming people at the venue of the event before making his way into the major hub of the event.

Governor Makinde is expected to present the staff of office to the monarch, signalling the symbol of authority to rule on his subject.

Many traditional rulers such Oluwo of Iwoland, Olubadan of Ibadan among several others were in attendance.

Mohbad: Naira Marley Sues Iyabo Ojo, Demands N500 Million For Defamation

Popular Nigerian singer and rapper, Afeez Fashola, professionally known as Naira Marley has sued Nigerian actress, Iyabo Ojo.

Oduduwa News learnt that Naira Marley through his lawyer accused the actress of publishing false and malicious content about his client on her Instagram account.

It was stated in a letter forwarded to Iyabo Ojo that in a post in September 2023, she accused Naira Marley of dealing with the late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad spiritually and physically.

The lawyer, also claimed that the actress accused his client of destroying Mohbad whom he described as a brother mentally.

The counsel to the singer is requesting for the sum of N500 million from Iyabo Ojo if she fails to apologise for the accusations levelled against Naira Marley.

Naira Marley’s lawyer asked that she publish an apology statement on her official Instagram account, adding that the apology should also be published on a national daily.

According to Naira Marley’s lawyer, failure to adhere to the condition placed before her would force their hand to file a lawsuit against her.

Dapo Abiodun Constitutes Committee For The Establishment Of Naval Base In Ogun

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has constituted an Evaluation Committee for the establishment of a Naval Base in the state.

Speaking while receiving the Naval team from the Naval Headquarters in his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, Governor Abiodun noted with delight the zeal exhibited by the Chief of Naval Staff in setting up the team, saying the establishment of a Naval Base would help to further secure the state.

“A few weeks ago, I held a meeting with the new Flag Officer Commanding, Western Naval Command and in that meeting, I shared a vision of Ogun State Multi-modal Transportation Master Plan made up of road, rail and Water transportation.

“We have implemented that of road and rail except that of water transportation. It is important that ahead of the implementation of the water transportation of our Multi-modal Transportation Master Plan, we have a feasible presence of the Nigerian Navy beyond the Navy school that have been here for many years.

“I want to assure you that the benefits will be mutual. We will complement this Committee with people from our state who are competent and will adds value to the Committee,” the governor noted.

He said the the state in the past had been longing to have a dry port and airport until his administration succeeded in building the airport, adding that the seaport, which has been in the drawing board for long, would also see the light of the day.

The governor said though operations have not started at the Gateway Agro-Cargo International Airport, many institutions and corporate bodies have indicated interest to take over and run the airport.

He said: “We have succeeded in building one of the best airport in Nigeria. Even though operations have not started, many renowned corporate bodies have indicated interest to take over and run it in line with global best practices.

“The same zeal we use for the airport will be the same we will use for the seaport which will be Nigeria’s biggest seaport and this will call for serious Naval presence.”

Governor Abiodun reiterated that he had discussions with the Benin Republic President of his intension to be feasible on theTongeji Island, assuring that the Beninoise have been cooperating on issues that would bring development to both countries.

The governor appreciated the Navy for cooperating and collaborating with other security agencies to keep the peace in the state, saying the state would appreciate the posting of OP. WASE component of the Navy to beef up security in the state.

Speaking earlier, the Flag Officer Commanding, Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Mustapha Hassan, expressed the need to beef security in the state as the result of a slight increase in crime rate in recent times.

He said the visit was to follow up on the discussion he had with the governor to set up a Naval Base in the state.

Head of the Committee, Rear Admiral M. Oamen thanked the state government for the support the Navy has received in the past 25 years, emphasizing that the Chief of Naval Staff and members of the Committee are committed to the success of the project.

Ogun Govt Takes Over Education Of Late Director of Finance Children, Provides New Accommodation To Family

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has approved the takeover of the education of the children of the deceased Director of Finance and Administration in the office of the governor, Mr. Taiwo Oyekanmi.

The governor also directed the immediate payment of the gratuity of the slain director to cushion the effects of his death on the family he left behind.

He has also instructed the Ministry of Housing to provide the wife and children of late Oyekanmi with one of the affordable homes built by his administration.

Governor Abiodun made these known at Ibara Baptist Church on Wednesday, during the memorial service held in honour of the late Oyekanmi.

“I also promised when I came to see you, Mrs Oyekanmi, that we will not leave you; that we will stand by you. The Almighty God himself will be with you. But we will stand by you, with you, we will support you and your family.

“We can not replace Taiwo, but we will do everything to cushion the effect of his departure.

“I have since signed up on some of that support immediately. So this is not a promise that you have to come to us to request that we fulfil.

“Your children, the state will be taking over the responsibility of their education. I have instructed the payment of your husband’s gratuity immediately.

“I also have instructed the Ministry of Housing to provide you with one of our affordable homes.

“I know you have a home of your own, but in my opinion, I thought perhaps you may decide to commercialize that so that will give you a sense of income to cushion the effect of your departed husband,” he said.

Governor Abiodun also called on the family of the deceased to support the wife and the children he left behind, adding that all the supports to be given to her are for her exclusively.

“Now, I will plead with the members of the family. I know how our tradition works. Please, bear with this woman. Yes, Taiwo is your brother, nephew, cousin, but Taiwo is this woman’s husband, she has lost her husband, the children has lost their father.

“All these supports that are due to be given to her are for her exclusively. The Head of Service is under my instruction to ensure that he provides the necessary oversight to ensure that she enjoys this support exclusively, and I want to thank you for understanding,” he disclosed.

Abiodun reiterated his promise that his administration would do all within its power to bring the perpetrators of the crime to book.

He said that it was in line with that promise that a reward of N50 million was announced for anyone with useful information that could lead to the arrest of those responsible for the crime.

Governor Abiodun described Oyekanmi as humble, diligent, dedicated, and extremely hardworking, adding that he was very reliable and dependable.

Responding on behalf of the family, Mr. Lanre Oyekanmi, who described the death of their brother as a loss not only to the family but to the whole Ifoyintedo community, said that the family would support the wife and children of their brother.

Oyo Govt moves to resolve Oorelope, Saki East LGs’ boundary dispute

The Oyo State Government launched new efforts on Wednesday to resolve the longstanding boundary issue between Oorelope local government and Saki East Local Government.

The Government, who summoned a meeting between representatives of the two communities at the western hall, secretariat, Ibadan, also had in attendance Nigerian Police representative and other security agencies for a lasting solution into the persistence crisis.

During the meeting, the deputy governor of Oyo state, Barrister Abdul-Raheem Adebayo Lawal, who doubles as the chairman of the boundary commission, commended the leaders of the two communities for not taking law into their hands.

He said by reporting whatever intrusion they encountered from neighboring communities showed that the two parties were ready for peace.

While commending the state’s Nigerian police for treating the matter with great seriousness, he noted that the boundary dispute has been in existence since 1960.

He added that inter-state boundary dispute and inter boundary dispute needed to be solved amicably as every responsible government would always want to avoid bloodshed.

The deputy governor, who noted that he had once addressed the issue recently, however said that the two communities are contagious as no one can really demarcate lands between the two communities.

According to him, my attention was recently drawned to the issue of demarcation and the office of the deputy governor has been handling the issue very carefully to prevent bloodshed.

While urging the two communities to maintain the spirit of living peacefully with one another as the matter was before government for a lasting solution, he reiterated that Oyo government will not be a party to boundary disputes in court.

He said: “It is a pleasure for me to welcome you all to this very important meeting with a view to putting heads together for further appropriate action in resolving the boundary disputes between Oorelope Local Government and Saki East Local Government.

“My attention was recently drawned to the issue of demarcation and the office of deputy governor has been handling the issue carefully to prevent bloodshed.

“So, on behalf of His Excellency, Seyi Makinde, I can assure you that we are doing everything possible towards the demarcation exercise, hence the need for you to exercise more patience on the task before us.

“Government would mobilize the office of surveyor general to carry out the land boundary demarcation exercise.

“Whoever between the two communities have documentary evidence to assist the surveyor general in respect to survey should make presentation.

“Finally, traditional leaders need to understand that the deputy governor’s office handles issues between two local governments, not within a local government.

Earlier in his remarks, the representative of Oyo Commissioner of Police, SP Olaolu Adedokun, who appreciated the deputy governor for calling the peace meeting, stated that the meeting will strongly indicate to other communities that the Oyo state government, led by Governor Seyi Makinde, is deeply concerned for the well-being of its people.

He added that the the Makinde-led administration has provided the Nigerian police with great support in their efforts to ensure that the good people of Oyo state live in peace, in addition to intervening in the out-of-court settlement of the boundary dispute between Saki East local government and Oorelope local government.

Adedokun equally commended the traditional leaders for calling their youths into order while pledging that the Nigeria police will keep playing its part to make sure that residents of Oyo State live in peace.

Breaking: EFCC declares ex-power minister, Olu Agunloye, wanted over alleged $6b fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared a former minister of power and steel, Olu Agunloye, wanted over alleged $6 billion fraud.

The minister, who served under former President Olusegun Obasanjo between 1999 and 2003, was declared wanted by the anti-graft agency over an alleged case of corruption and forgery on Tuesday, December 12.

Ayedatiwa takes over as acting Ondo Gov as Akeredolu flown out to Germany, begins medical leave

Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State will commence his medical leave on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, as a follow-up to his medical treatment.

The Chief Press Secretary to Akeredolu, who disclosed this in a statement signed by him, said the vacation would give the governor the opportunity to prioritize his health and ensure a full recovery before resuming his official duties.

He mentioned that a formal letter regarding the medical leave and a notice formally transferring power in line with the Nigerian Constitution would be transmitted to the House of Assembly.

In the absence of Governor Akeredolu, the Deputy Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, will assume the responsibilities of the Governor in an acting capacity.

He stated, “Governor Akeredolu expresses his gratitude for the unwavering support and affection of the people of Ondo State. He assures them that his administration remains committed to the path of progress and prosperity for the people.
