Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has mourned the passing of his Senior Special Assistant on Tertiary Education, Youth and Student Affairs, Omotayo Sanyaolu, who died today (Friday).
Sanyaolu, who was the immediate past Youth Leader of the Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), died on Friday after his involvement in an auto crash in Lagos.
Governor Sanwo-Olu in a condolence message issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Gboyega Akosile on Friday, expressed his heartfelt sympathies to the family of Omotayo Sanyaolu, who he described as a “loyal, committed, hardworking and dedicated co-worker in the Greater Lagos agenda.”
The Governor said the death of Sanyaolu is a personal loss to him and the Lagos State Government, as well as the deceased family, friends, Lagos APC and tertiary institutions within the state.
He said: “the death of a loved one is usually painful as it is irreparable but we must thank God that Omotayo Sanyaolu made a positive impact during his short but eventful lifetime. He served our party, APC passionately and meritoriously as a Youth Leader and contributed to its victory in many elections.
“Tayo as my Special Assistant on Tertiary Education, Youth and Student Affairs was very instrumental to the Greater Lagos agenda. He contributed positively to issues affecting the youths and students in the state.
“I sympathise with his widow, children, siblings, friends and the entire family as well as Lagos State and the APC family. I pray that God will grant the late Omotayo Sanyaolu eternal rest and grant the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss. We will miss Tayo.”
It was a Black Friday as Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu lost his Senior Special Assistant on Tertiary Education, Youths and Students Affairs, Omotayo Sanyaolu, in a lone auto crash at Maryland area of the state.
According to reports, the unfortunate accident occurred in the early hours on Friday, at about 4.01 AM, within the vicinity of Army Cantonment, Maryland, Ikeja
Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority, LASEMA, Dr, Femi Oke-Osanyantolu, confirmed the sad accident.
According to Oke-Osanyintolu,”Upon arrival at the scene it was discovered that a black Toyota Camry with registration number LAGH 32, while on top speed rammed into the Keystone Bank ATM located close to the Army Cantonment, Ikeja.
“Unfortunately, an adult male, Sanyanolu, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle died on impact and his remains were immediately bagged upon arrival of emergency responders.
“These have been handed over to the cantonment officer on duty (Officer Musa)
The affected vehicle was recovered with the aid of LASEMA’s light towing vehicle to a layby.”

Describing the tragic death as “very sad”, the Special Adviser on Education, Barrister Tokunbo Wahab, Permanent Secretary, Office of the Special Adviser on Education, Management and the entire staff of Office of Special Adviser on Education, OSAE, regret to announce the sudden death of Sanyaolu.
“Mr. Sanyaolu and I worked till the late hours of yesterday, Thursday, July 28, before he was involved in a ghastly motor accident on his way home, which claimed his life. May his gentle soul rest in peace.”
APC mourns
Also, spokesman of the All Progressives Congress, APC,Lagos State chapter. Seye Oladejo, described the death as “painful.”
Oladejo, in a statement, read, “Lagos State APC regrets to announce the untimely passage of the former state youth leader, Omotayo Sanyaolu who was until his demise the Senior Special Assistant to the State Governor on tertiary education, youths and students affairs.
Tayo was a committed party youth leader who proved himself as a great mobiliser and excelled in all his assignments.
“He will be sorely missed especially at a time like this by the entire party, family, friends and well-wishers. May his soul Rest In Peace.”
Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu,SAN, on Thursday sworn-in six recently appointed Permanent Secretaries and Tutors-General in the state.
The newly appointed Accounting Officers who were sworn-in are: Mr. Olusegun Omojuwa, Permanent Secretary, Local Government Staff Loans Board; Mrs Adenike Ogunsola, Permanent Secretary, Local Government Service Commission; Mrs Toyin Oni, Permanent Secretary/Accountant-General and Mr Semiu Adigun, Permanent Secretary/Surveyor-General.
Others include: Mr Oni Morounfolu, Tutor-General, Teaching Service Commission (South) and Mr Farayola Akinyemi, Tutor-General, Teaching Service Commission (North).
Governor Akeredolu congratulated the new Accounting Officers, while charging them to be ready to discharge their responsibilities to the fullest.
The swearing-in ceremony, held at the Cocoa Conference Hall of the Governor’s Office, Alagbaka Akure, was graced by the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Bamidele Oleyelogun; President of Customary Court of Appeal, Justice Eunice Alade; members of the State Executive Council led by the Secretary to the Government, Princess Oladunni Odu; traditional rulers, serving Permanent Secretaries and other top government functionaries.
The Governor advised the Accounting Officer to see their appointment as a challenge to provide leadership and avoid any act of criminality.
He noted that the State can not afford to have any straggler on board, saying the government is contending with the issues of optimum service delivery amidst the myriad of challenges faced at present.
“The new appointees occupy very strategic positions in the public service. The Accountant-General and Permanent Secretary serves the State in a very special position.
“Prudent management of scarce resources of the State demands keen knowledge and management issues. Sobriety, continence and firmness are the virtues, among others, necessary for effective administration of the State at a time, such as this one. The office of the Accountant-General requires all these and even more.
“The Surveyor-General and Permanent Secretary has the onerous responsibility to ensure that the proper delineation of the State is maintained.
“In addition, this office must resist the relentless encroachment on government lands by unscrupulous speculators and those who connive with them from within. It is our expectation that this elevation will assist the new appointee in no small measure.
“The Tutors-General occupy a very important position in the teaching service. The importance of this office cannot be overemphasised. The oversight functions expected to be performed by a Tutor-General confers a special status on the holder of the office.
“The fact that the Tutors-General are expected to be in charge of their zones makes it mandatory for them to have an appreciable knowledge concerning placement and performance of teachers in these areas.
“They should be able to provide useful information on the challenges encountered by the schools and students, especially in the rural areas, to the Teaching Service Commission. No part of the State must be shortchanged with regard to availability of qualified teachers in the core subject areas.
“This appointment is a challenge to provide leadership. The recent discoveries, bordering on falsification of records, collection of multiple salaries, absence from duty post without approval, among other disgraceful acts, betray lack of strict supervision in the Teaching Service. There have also been some reported acts of criminality involving some teachers in some schools.
“It is our expectation that the relevant service regulations will be applied, rigorously. Any erring staff must be sanctioned. Any infraction requiring criminal prosecution will be pursued with tenacity until justice is delivered. No act of criminality will be condoned.
“The Oath of Allegiance administered is not only for this ceremony. It is a solemn pledge that any public officer, in whom the people repose immense trust, must discharge the onus of diligence, prudence, honesty and propriety expected of them, creditably. Any abuse of this sacred trust is gross and indecent. It will be sanctioned with proportionate severity.
“As this Administration proceeds on its journey in continued fulfilment of its electoral promises, we dare reiterate the fact that no one will be denied his/her due under our watch. We will continue to encourage workers in the best way which the current situation permits.”the Governor stressed.
Responding on behalf of his colleagues, Mr Olusegun Omojuwa, appreciated Governor Akeredolu for the elevation, while promising not to disappoint him.
He particularly lauded Governor Akeredolu for his unwavering commitment to security of lives and property of the poeple and improved workers’ welfare.
As members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and agents of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) clashed on Thursday, there was panic in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State.

In the gun trade that occurred between agents and the thugs, four people were hurt.
The conflict started when the NDLEA officers detained a bus driver who had been tracked to Osogbo for allegedly transporting drugs.
From beyond Osun State to Lagos Park, Old Garage, Osogbo, the commercial bus, according to information gathered, was followed.
Femi Babayemi told the NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy that during the arrest, thugs in the garage attacked his guys with bottles, cutlasses, and pistols during the arrest of a driver who was carrying the consignment.
He said, “There was intelligence that a particular vehicle is bringing drugs to Osogbo, so, today, they followed the vehicle to a particular garage, to see who the consignment will be delivered to. At one point, they tracked the vehicle to the garage and arrested the driver.
“So, at the time they arrested the driver, it raised alarm and the miscreants in the garage came out with bottles, cutlasses, and guns and our command was able to contact the CP for reinforcement, which was provided and in an attempt to withdraw from the scene, there was conflict.”
He confirmed that four persons were injured and have been taken to the hospital.
Multiple Bomb blast was reported yesterday in Owo, Ondo State, according to the information, it’s been said that terrorists invaded the town, attacking Folahanmi street where they fired gunshots
Many people were said to have been injured in the attack which took place Wednesday evening, at Folahami Junction, where a construction company called Craneburg Construction Company was located.
Eyewitness reports had it that the gunmen opened fire on those at the site.
According Ondo state Police command;
” Tonight, there was a shooting incident at Craneburg Construction Company Owo, Policemen are currently at the scene, victims have been taken to Hospital and they are in stable condition.
” We can not ascertain the casualty figure now and we also cannot say it was a terrorists’ attack with the use of explosives devices but tomorrow( Thursday ) morning , the EOD men of the command would go to the scene.”

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has detained well-known Ibadan Mogaji Jelili Adekunle Kareem, popularly known as Adanla for an alleged financial scam involving over 100 million Naira.
The Ibadan chief, who is also the Turaki Adini of Oyo state, was detained today and is presently the subject of an EFCC probe at Iyaganku.
According to information available to ODUDUWA NEWS, Saheed Osupa, a Fuji musician who serves as the brand ambassador for Afia Homes, the real estate development engaged in the financial swindle, is also likely to be invited for questioning.
It was also revealed that this Ibadan chief, who would be charged before the week, defrauded renowned sons and daughters of Oyo State of their hard-earned money.
The Oyo State Government has reinstated 129 public primary school teachers, unlawfully sacked by the previous administration.
The Executive Chairman, Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran stated this today, while congratulating the teachers.
He said the Executive Council of Oyo State has approved that a total of 129 officers wrongly dismissed by the Oyo State Government between 2011 and 2019 for reinstatement, subject to agreeing not to demand for arrears payment for the period they were away which the state converted to leave of absence.
Adeniran appreciated the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde for his kindness and selfless consideration in administrating the Pacesetter State.
He noted that the recent reinstatement of the state’s 129 school teachers who were fired by the previous administration, is a symbolic achievement that cannot be neglected.
“This is a plus for the education sector. Apart from being an addition to the dwindling number of teachers in the public primary sector, thousands of family dependents who have been subjected to untold economic hardship due to the layoff of their breadwinners will now have a new lease of life”, Adeniran said.
Adeniran therefore called on teachers in the state to reciprocate Makinde’s gesture, through commitment to duties and redoubling their dedication to work.
He also called on them to key into the Governor Seyi Makinde-led administration’s goal to change the narratives in the education sector of the state.
Scammers in Ado-Ekiti may now be finding it difficult to perform their scamming enterprise as security operatives are now hunting them.
Ado-Ekiti, lately, seemed to be the headquarters of the scammers in the state as the people in the heartless business have increased in number.

In July 23, one Odunayo Apejuwa was nabbed and taken to the headquarters of Amontekun in Ado-Ekiti. His style of the scamming game is to appear in the house or before his innocent victims and start to threaten them while demanding for money or their belongings.
According to one of his victims who craved anonymity, “He would claim to have come from the house of a popular Chief in Ado and threaten to unleash terror if his victims fail to make his demand available
“He would say he is a member of a secrete society and that he’s is well known by the people including the police.”
Recall that the ex-governor was attacked during the 2018 Ekiti state governorship election. He attended one of the rallies with a neck collar and wept saying he was in severe pains.
His brother, Isaac, who shared video and photos from his hospital bed, said the former governor has undergone two major surgical operations within five months, one on his neck which happened in February and another one for his back.
Isaac stated that the injuries were resulted to from the attack on him during the 2018 Ekiti governorship election.
Due to technological issues, the Cultural Creative Art and Arabic Language Subjects of the current Basic Education Certification Examination (BECE) have been canceled by the Oyo State Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology.
However, the Ministry declared that the previously written cultural creative art and Arabic language subjects would be revised.
The declaration was made on Tuesday while Barr Abdulraheem Abdulrahman, the Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, was observing the BECE in five local governments in the Ibadan Metropolitan Area.
Over 150,000 students are now taking the continuing BECE across the state, according to the Commissioner, who praised the compliance of the schools visited for adhering to the rules and regulations of the Final Examinations.
According to him, 178 Students were present in the examination hall at Orogun grammar School while at Isabatudeen Girls’ Grammar school, there were 125 students during the monitoring.
Barr Abdulrahman added that the state Ministry of Education will review the teaching patterns of teachers in Public schools across the state to improve the knowledge of the students.
The entourage also used the opportunity to monitor the ongoing National Examination Council Examination (NECO) in some Schools.
Other schools visited by the entourage include Islamic High School, Basorun and some private schools, all in Ibadan metropolis.
On the entourage of the state Commissioner for education was the Permanent Secretary Mrs Christiana Abioye and other senior staff of the state Ministry.
