How Benin Republic Stopped Plane Buhari Govt Sent To Extradite Sunday Igboho – Falana

Human right lawyer, Femi Falana has revealed how Benin Republic rejected President Muhammadu Buhari’s bid to have Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo popularly called Sunday Igboho put on a waiting plane and extradited to Nigeria after his arrest in the French-speaking country in July.

Falana stated that Benin Republic rejected the offer and insisted that due process must be followed if the freedom fighter is to be extradited to Nigeria.

The Senior Advocate stated this during an interview on BBC Yoruba on Tuesday.

AFRICAN REPORTERS recalls that Igboho and his wife, Ropo, were arrested at the Cardinal Bernardin International Airport, Cotonou on July 19 while trying to catch a flight to Germany.

The 63-year-old legal luminary noted that Benin Republic, however, informed the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government to understand that obeying the law is sacrosanct to them.

Falana said; “The Nigerian government asked the Benin Republic government to repatriate Sunday Igboho. In fact, we heard they had even sent an aircraft to be used to bring him down to Abuja.

“The Benin government made its Nigerian counterpart to understand that this is not a lawless society.”

The Yoruba nation agitator fled Nigeria to the Benin Republic after he was declared wanted by the Department of State Services, DSS.

The DSS operatives invaded Igboho’s residence in Ibadan following intelligence reports he was stockpiling arms.

Ogun State Police arrest herdsman in possession of AK-47 rifle

The suspect identified as “Mohammed” was arrested on August 10 in Iwoye Ketu in Imeko-Afon Local Government Area, according to police spokesperson Abimbola Oyeyemi.

Oyeyemi explained that Mohammed’s arrest followed information received by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Imeko Divisional Headquarters that two young herdsmen suspected to be of Fulani background were sighted at CAC Oha Forest in Iwoye Ketu town with the assault rifle.

Upon the information, the DPO quickly mobilised his men, hunters, vigilante operatives and men of the So Safe Corps and stormed the forest.

‘After hours of combing the forest, one Mohammed was seen hiding in the bush with one AK-47 rifle, and he was promptly arrested.

‘The arrested armed boy is strongly suspected to be a member of kidnap syndicates who has been terrorising the area for quite some time now.

‘Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Edward Awolowo Ajogun, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for discreet investigation.

‘The CP also directed that the entire forest be properly combed with the view to apprehending other members of his gang,’ the PPRO stated in the statement.

N26bn Flood Project: Oyo Govt Appeals To World Bank To Reverse Its Withdrawal Policy

The governor has appealed to the World Bank not to withdraw its conditional no objection for the Second Pool of Long Term Investments (PLTI2) BERs, and make available funding for the contracts.

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, indicated that the state also rejected insinuations that the World Bank had withdrawn its commitment to IUFMP due to display of undue interests by the governor.

The commitment of the governor and Oyo State Government “is coming at a time when World Bank, in its correspondence of July 30, 2021, to Governor Makinde, pointed out administrative issues and strengthening of the safeguard team.

“The Bank, nonetheless, expressed a recognition of Governor Makinde’s unwavering support to the important project.”

The statement noted that while a correspondence from the World Bank, signed by Mr. Shubham Chaudhuri, Country Director, Nigeria, Western and Central Africa Region, had conveyed the determination of the status of its support for the project, the said decision was not as a result of undue interference by Governor Makinde.

“The government of Oyo State remained committed to its letter of undertaking submitted to the Bank in May 2021,” the statement said.

The statement continued: “Already, Governor Makinde’s appeal has been forwarded to the World Bank with six strategic and critical progress milestones comprising Activities, Proactive Steps and Status.”

The statement further quoted the governor as drawing the attention of the World Bank to the “proactive steps already taken and the commitment of the Project (IUFMP) in the last two months,” while the governor also outlined areas of alignment with the observations made by the financial institution.

Indeed, the statement noted that of strategic importance is Governor Makinde’s revalidation of an earlier written undertaking that “the state will continue to fund and complete works post-June 2022 project completion date, should project works at all Lots extend beyond the end date.”

The statement further read: “Contrary to insinuations in some partisan quarters about interests and lack of continuity, only last week, IUFMP awarded dredging of forty-five (45) streams within and around Ibadan metropolis, as part of its palliative measures.

“The dredging exercise is ongoing, helping to provide instant relief to residents of flood-prone areas where structural interventions are yet to take place. Work on the long-term investments is on-going on the channels of Agodi, Kudeti, Ogbere, Orogun, etc. as earlier launched, barring the occasional drawbacks by the inclement weather.

“No where in the letter from the World Bank were issues of personal interest or insistence on some contractors mentioned.

What Are Some Ways to Prevent the Spread of COVID-19?

Good web design has visual weight, is optimized for various devices, and has content that is prioritized for the medium. The most important elements of a web page should have more visual weight to “naturally attract” a visitor’s attention.

Good design is making something intelligible and memorable. Great design is making something memorable and meaningful.

Dieter Rams

Most users search for something interesting (or useful) and clickable; as soon as some promising candidates are found, users click. If the new page doesn’t meet users’ expectations, the back button is clicked and the search process is continued.

A good website should be easy to navigate

Not all websites are made equal. Some websites are simple, logical, and easy to use. Others are a messy hodgepodge of pages and links.

How are innovations in robotics changing the way we perceive the world?

Without website navigation, your visitors can’t figure out how to find your blog, your email signup page, your product listings, pricing, contact information, or help docs.

Quick and easy access to the content they’re after is more important for your website users than a… visually-stunning design.

Creating visual rhythms in your layouts

In design, rhythm is created by simply repeating elements in predictable patterns. This repetition is a natural thing that occurs everywhere in our world. As people, we are driven everyday by predictable, timed events.

Why does Bluetooth use lossy rather than lossless compression

One of the best ways to use repetition and rhythm in web design is in the site’s navigation menu. A consistent, easy-to-follow pattern—in color, layout, etc. Gives users an intuitive roadmap to everything you want to share on your site.

  • Direct the Eye With Leading Lines
  • Balance Out Your Elements
  • Use Elements That Complement Each Other
  • Be clear about your “focal points” and where you place them

Diving into UX and UI design

UX and UI: Two terms that are often used interchangeably, but actually mean very different things. So what exactly is the difference?

Styles come and go. Good design is a language, not a style.

Massimo Vignelli

UX design refers to the term “user experience design”, while UI stands for “user interface design. Both elements are crucial to a product and work closely together. But despite their relationship, the roles themselves are quite different.

Breaking down the barriers

Design is not the end-all solution to all of the worlds problems — but with the right thinking and application, it can definitely be a good beginning to start tackling them.

Marry yourself if you a feminist, it won’t work if go into marriage – Bishop Oyedepo

Living Faith Church Worldwide aka Winners’ Chapel, Bishop David Oyedepo, has criticised women who identified themselves as feminists against getting married.

The clergyman, who gave the advice during a sermon to his congregation, specifically warned women against joining the feminist movement as he stated that feminism would lead to frustration and devastation.

He stated, “If feminist revolution is your vision, don’t attempt to get married, because it won’t work.”

Oyedepo lamented the alarming rate at which women nowadays ignored the Bible’s instruction to submit to their husbands because they regarded such instructions as outdated.

According to him, when the Bible says “submit yourself to your husband in everything,” women respond by saying, “No, not today, that was before. Right now, nobody can do that. We are co-heirs, male and female, no difference.”

Oyedepo continued, saying such women thought they were too smart for God to lead them.

He said when they were told that “This is the way to go,” they respond saying, “No, let me educate you, God. You didn’t go to school, did you?”

The clergyman continued, “Right now, there is a feminine revolution. Then you get into feminine frustration and destiny devastation.

“You know something; no book on earth will ever overtake the Bible in currency. It is the eternal truth. While the earth remains, the truth of scriptures remains in force, you either choose to follow or go your way.

“For we can do nothing against the truth – no matter what civilisation we are talking about – but for the truth at all times.

“If feminist revolution is your vision, don’t attempt to get married, because it won’t work.”

Yoruba Group Warns Obasanjo To Stay Clear Of Igboho’s Trial, Says He Should Be Prosecuted For Undermining Nigeria’s Unity

Socio-cultural group, Yoruba for One Nigeria Forum (YONF) have urged former President Olusegun Obasanjo to clear his name over purported media reports that he is lobbying the Benin Republic to shield Sunday Adeyemi popularly known as Igboho from facing prosecution.

The group in a statement titled, “Olusegun Obasanjo is the Greatest Beneficiary of Nigeria’s Unity” and signed by its National President, Seun Adebayo Lawal explained that the call became necessary in view of the significant benefits the former President and Yoruba nation as a whole have gained from one united Nigeria.

The statement reads: “The attention of our organisation has been drawn to media reports that former President Olusegun Obasanjo has embarked on a mission in Benin Republic to shield Sunday Adeyemi popularly known as Igboho, who is currently facing multiple criminal charges in the country and on DSS wanted list in Nigeria from being prosecuted. Recall that the self-styled violent agitator has been on the run following his invitation by the Department of State Services”, the group noted.

It further averred that Nigeria has not given Yoruba nation agitators a reason to pursue emancipation, stressing that Obasanjo should know this better than anyone else especially being a two-time President of a united Nigeria.

“While we hope that this unpatriotic move is not true, we expect the former President to issue a clear statement on the allegations to inform Nigerians of his position. This is important because of the imminent misconceptions his silence is generating on this matter. It is our position as a native Yoruba indigenous organisation that the alleged move by Obasanjo needs to be censored so as to set records straight for posterity and history.

“The Nigerian history, in its present form has recorded the Yoruba nation as the greatest beneficiaries of Nigeria’s unity since independence. Ironically former President Olusegun Obasanjo is a Yoruba man who has benefited the most from whatever gains Nigeria made of her unity. Obasanjo is the only Nigerian of pure Yoruba descent who has ever ruled this country under the military and civilian dispensations. What more could Nigeria have offered to him or the Yoruba nation? What dues were deserving of the Yoruba nation that Obasanjo could not make up during his time as Head of State and President? He does not need to be reminded of the role Nigeria’s unity played in his rise, both as a military and civilian President thus, the least he owes this nation is to preach peace, promote and advocate for a united and indissoluble Nigeria.

“If Obasanjo is desirous of creating a sustainable and one united Nigeria, he should utilise his international contacts in the overall benefit of the Nigerian State and its people. Any attempt by Obasanjo or any group to scuttle legitimate efforts by the Nigerian government to ensure that Igboho faces justice would not be forgiven by patriotic Nigerians. The resistance of such moves, no matter how clandestine will be equally resisted by the Nigerian people”, the statement noted.

Continuing, the group stressed that “…as a Yoruba indigenous group, we will not look the other way when those who have exploited the most of Nigeria’s unity turn to sabotage government peace efforts. We call on former President Olusegun Obasanjo to utilise his international privileges to champion the unity of this country. After all, he got those privileges from the benevolence of Nigeria’s unity.

“It is perhaps too late for any individual in the echelon of former President Olusegun Obasanjo to contemplate a divided Nigeria at this moment. We must therefore make this Clarion call to all Yoruba indigenous people to show solidarity with the Nigerian government to achieve the long-desired hope of one Nigeria built on unity, peace and progress”, the statement added.

Igboho: Yoruba Leaders Are Not Noisemakers, Afenifere Speaks On Obasanjo’s Intervention

Afenifere, the Pan-Yoruba group, has confirmed that the former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, met with the president of the Republic of Benin, Patrice Talon, to intervene on Sunday Igboho’s matter.

The meeting was confirmed on Saturday, August 7, by the special assistant on media to Obasanjo, Kehinde Akinyemi.

Afenifere said Obasanjo won’t want Yorubaland to be disgraced.

“Obasanjo was in the Benin Republic on Monday and he met with the President but nobody knew what they discussed.”

However, Afenifere, on Sunday, August 8, said Obasanjo waded into the Igboho matter because he did not want the Yoruba Nation agitator, who is currently detained in the Benin Republic, to be extradited to Nigeria.

According to Afenifere, Obasanjo does not believe Igboho will get justice if extradited to Nigeria from the Benin Republic.

The organising secretary of Afenifere, Apogun Kola Omololu, said: “Obasanjo is a Yoruba man first before becoming a president. Yoruba leaders are not noisemakers, they don’t make noise, they act. Look at the way we fought the NADECO battle, it was intellectually coordinated. According to the group, Yoruba monarchs and other prominent people will not allow Igboho to be extradited to Nigeria.
