Nigerians Will Be At A Disadvantage If The Country Breaks Up, Says Osinbajo

Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo has stated that Nigerians will be at a disadvantaged if the country breaks up.

This was stated on Monday by the vice-president when he received the national executive of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), at the presidential villa in Abuja.

The NUJ national executive was led to the presidential villa by Chris Isiguzo, president of the union.

Osinbajo in a statement released by his media aide, Laolu Akande said there is a need to promote the message of unity in the country, and advised journalists to be professional in the discharge of their duties.

“This country is ours, whether we are press, politicians or religious people. The country is ours, and we must do everything to ensure that the country remains safe, secure, and united, and this so important,” he was quoted as saying.

“I thank you for your civic vigilance, for the very kind words you have spoken about Nigeria, and for remaining steadfast in your belief for the rule of law and press freedom in the country.

“As I keep saying, the elite in our country, those of us who have had the benefit of education, positions and all of that, we owe millions of our people who are poor, who have no access and have no voice, a duty to ensure that we don’t let things become worse for them.

“There are so many countries faced with a national challenge and where you have people who are prepared to subvert the entire republic, the press works actively with government to ensure that the information space is protected in such a way that people who want to subvert the republic are not allowed to do so.

“But I think it is important, because your voices as respected members of the fourth estate of the realm, your voices are very important in moderating the kinds of views that we hear constantly which in the end, (if care is not taken) subverts the polity.

“It is important for us to continue to emphasise that the unity of this country is crucial, because if this country breaks up in any way or becomes the subject of what some people will like it to be, all of us will lose out. Obviously, the elite will survive in any way but the vast majority of our people will not.

“So, I will urge that we should as much as possible do whatever we can in our spaces that we occupy to keep emphasising that we cannot afford a situation where the national unity of this country is compromised, or where the country is made the theater of conflict and all sorts of insurgencies and crimes.”

According to Akande, Isiguzo, in his remarks, condemned the spread of fake news, and urged the media to always verify information.

He also urged the federal government to support the media industry with “bailout fund”, in order to prevent job losses.

Eruwa Poly SUG Lauds Governing Council Chairman, Ogundiran’s Devt Strides

The Students’ Union Government of Adeseun Ogundoyin Eruwa Polytechnic has thrown its weight behind the Governing Council Chairman, Prof. Ogundiran Samuel.

This was contained in a statement signed and sent to Oduduwa News today by the SUG executive as read in part:

“The Students’ Union Government of Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic Eruwa hereby write to Your Excellency in reaction to a purported move of some digruntled elements in the state planning that a Vote of No Confidence be passed on the Governing Council Chairman of Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic Eruwa, Professor Samuel Ogunwale Ogundiran.

“Since your assumption in office as the governor of the state Sir, there has been a deliberate to ask to transform education which has led you into searching for people of wisdom, integrity and intellect which you succeeded in by appointing Governing Councils to various state owned tertiary institutions on the 7th of July 2020, Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic Eruwa is not an exception.

“Even though, he is not a newbie in the system as he was the Chairman in the previous administration, Professor Samuel Ogundiran impacts in the institution in the last 13 months cannot be overemphasized.

“Knowing full well that there have been problems arising of non accreditation of courses in the school limiting the number of programs offered, he was able to use his influence to fast track the accreditation process. The NBTE team led by Mallam G.M Nalado conducted it’s visitation to the school from 29th November to 2nd December, this resulted into the approval of more programs.

“The accreditation of some programmes was also the reason why some graduates of the 2016/2017 session have not yet been mobilized for the National Youth Service Corps. This has grievously caused a setback in some people’s lives especially if the NYSC certificate is made a prerequisite for job employment. He had to put it upon himself to go to the NYSC secretariat in Abuja to resolve the mobilisation crisis.

“Being an academician that knows the value of additional certifications in the modern world, he has been able to use his initiative to introduce affliated ICT programs into the school. CISCO and Microsoft certificates are now being awarded to students of Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic Eruwa.

“He holds the matters of students so dearly to his heart as a father and quick to look into agitations of the management. You would agree with us Sir, that Professor Samuel Ogundiran is a visionary and charismatic leader, he believes in development and career building also a man with an impeccable character.

“The Students’ Union being a key stakeholder in the school has deemed it fit to write to you as a matter of urgency to discard the false allegations that have een written against the Chairman who is worthy of the appointment.

“Your Excellency Sir, we ask in your office  that you discountenance whatever anybody has brought to you against the man of progressive ideology”.

Ondo Gov, Akeredolu Decries Importation of Gas In Nigeria

Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, has decried importation of glass into the country despite the huge availability of the needed raw materials for its production in the Sunshine state.

The Governor recalled that when the Moribund Oluwa Glass was functional, it was supplying the then Peugeot glasses for windscreen and mirror as part of the production of the vehicles.

Governor Akeredolu spoke in his office on Thursday while receiving investors from the Horn Glass Industries from Germany led by the Chief Executive Officer, Mr Stephan Meindl.

The CEO/Chairman, ZMP Industries Limited, Mr Rotimi Ogunsanmi, was also on the investors entourage.

The Ondo State Government had signed a Public Private Partnership agreement with the ZMP Industrial Limited for the establishment of 600 Tonnes per day capacity float glass factory in Igbokoda, Ilaje Local Government Area of the state.

The technical partner for the project, Horn Glass Industries, built Oluwa Glass over 35 years ago.

Receiving the investors in his office, Governor Akeredolu said there is no better company to establish glass factory in the state than the Horn Glass Industries having been involved with the establishment of the Oluwa Glass over three decades ago.

He said: “You are involved with Oluwa Glass and you are the one that built it. I don’t think there is a better company to start a new state-of-the-art Glass Company than you.

“Importation of glass into this country is unfortunate. Oluwa Glass was the one supplying Peugeot windscreen and glass. But government involvement in Oluwa Glass killed it.

“But today, we have equity participation. We are not going to stiffen anyone who is interest in developing the state. Our participation will be minimal so as to make it effective.”

Governor Akeredolu charged the investors to be time conscious, adding that time is of the essence.

“Time is of essence. We are running against time. Please start now. Undoubtedly, we are waiting. The state will be glad to have a glass factory back after 35years,” he noted.

Horn Glass Industries Chief Executive Officer, Mr Stephan Meindl, said his firm is ready to establish the glass factory with modern technology and unwavering commitment.

The Secretary, Ondo State Development and Investment Promotion Agency, Emmanuel Omomowo, who explained the process and terms of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed, said the Sunshine state is endowed with Silica Sands which has a the raw material needed for the glass production.

“We need to bring in high-net-worth investors to actually collaborate with the state to develop our silica resource and the value of this investment is over 250 Million Euros and when it is converted to Naira, it is over 162 Billion Naira.

“The State Government in this project is having the stake of over 20% while the investor, ZMP Industrial Ltd. has 80% and ZMP Industrial Ltd. is also working in collaboration with a renowned technical partner called Horn Glass Industries.

“That the technical partner, Horn Glass Industries was the one that built Oluwa Glass and now they are coming now to build a new green field glass factory and because it is a joint venture and we have an SPV, Special Purpose Vehicle to drive it.

“It will create a lot of employment, we can talk of investment value that is worth over 160billion that is coming to the State. It will also have other multiplier effects within the State, it is going to enhance our economy, it is going to create job employment, expand our revenue business.

“It is a great deal that is actually coming to the State. And going through their profiles, they have the technical expertise. That is why we are talking of project reference that Oluwa Glass developed over 30 years ago which is going to be built again with newer technology, with a better approach. So, it is a good deal for the State,” he said.
