2023: PDP Chieftain And Business Mogul, Raymond Dokpesi Vows To Back Tinubu For President

Dokpesi said he was canvassing for the national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu for President in 2023 because they had been childhood friends.

He said, “Let me tell you that Bola Ahmed Tinubu, before he became governor, when he was still in Mobil, you know the Headquarters of Mobil is just directly in front of my house in Lagos.

As young men we ate and drank together; we were close friends before he became governor.

He is a philanthropist; he is kind-hearted.

He is supportive of the ordinary person available, and he has brought about bringing hope to people.

For 2023, I wish him the very best in whatever he puts his hands on.

So, it has nothing to do with politics; it is a matter of the good relationship we have always had and I cherish it and I want to keep it.”

#EndSARS: Lagos Police Vows To Stop Planned Memorial Protest

Credible intelligence at the disposal of the Command has revealed clandestine plans by some youths, individuals or groups to embark on protest today in commemoration of one year anniversary of ENDSARS.

Lagosian and indeed Nigerians cannot afford to relive the distasteful experience of last year protest which caused pain, anguish, needless loss of lives and wanton destruction of public and private property.

In view of the volatility of the present situations in the country, and the breakdown of law and order which the planned protest might cause, the Lagos State Police Command sternly warns against any form of protest today.

The Command wishes to use this medium to warn the youths, groups, or associations planning such protest to jettison the idea forthwith. The police in the state will not fold their arms and allow some misguided elements disrupt the peace and serenity currently being enjoyed in the state.

To forestall breakdown of law and order, the police will use all legitimate means within their constitutional powers to suppress the planned protest.

Therefore, parents and guardians are advised to warn their children against participating in the planned protest. Individuals or groups sponsoring such protest are also warned in their own interest to desist from such unpatriotic plan or face the full weight or wrath of the law.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem Odumosu assures all law-abiding residents of the state to go about their legitimate businesses without fear of harassment or intimidation. Adequate, additional security measures have been put in place to ensure protection of their lives and property today and even beyond.

Only God can take my life, Tinubu reacts to death rumours

The National Leader of All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, says only God can take his life.

Tinubu stated this on Sunday at a welcome-back event held in his honour at the State House in Marina, Lagos.

The event was attended by House of Representatives Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila; Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and his deputy, Femi Hamzat; Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, amongst other APC chieftains in Lagos.

“I’m a little emotional now but I’m happy. God is the Giver of life and the only One who can take life. And He (God) says; if I grant you power and the privilege in this life; I am the only One who can take it from you if you don’t use it in the way and manner that promotes humanity. God can give power to anyone he wills.

“It is the same God that has spared us till today and has given us the privilege. I give glory to God, because I’m standing before you hale, hearty and well. Today is a day of joy for me, having fixed today for this great event. We are here giving praises to God. May God bless all of you in attendance. I am grateful. I cannot say more than that today. Thank you all,” Tinubu announced to his political protégés at the event.

This is according to a video posted on Facebook by one of Sanwo-Olu’s media aides, Jubril Gawat.

Also addressing the gathering, Sanwo-Olu said, “We have countless reasons to be grateful to God for bringing Asiwaju back home, fully rejuvenated…We give glory to God who brought you (Tinubu) back with sound health and stronger vigour.”

The governor also thanked God that “the intention of evil-minded people who spread malicious rumour against our leader did not materialise”.

This newspaper had reported that Tinubu returned to Nigeria on Friday after spending over three months in London where he underwent knee surgery and physiotherapy.

Back in July while he was in the United Kingdom, Tinubu’s health had generated controversy and his Media Adviser, Tunde Rahman, had a hectic time debunking death rumours.

“Who really is afraid of Asiwaju Tinubu? Those wishing Asiwaju Tinubu evil or dead should be careful. They should know the matter of life and death is in the hand of only God Almighty,” Rahman had furiously said in a statement on July 31.

To further dispel the death rumours, at least over 30 politicians had visited Tinubu while he was in London. The photos of the visits had been splashed on social media for doubting Thomases.

Notably amongst the politicians who visited Tinubu include Sanwo-Olu; the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.); Governors Umar Ganduje (Kano), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti), and Rotimi Akeredolu (Ondo).

Tinubu, who celebrated his 69th birthday in March 2021, commands an arguably large following of political loyalists.

Though Tinubu has yet to declare his intention to contest any office in 2023, there have been reports and veiled indications that he might be interested in the presidential seat.

While in London, members of the House of Representatives from the north led by Deputy Speaker, Ahmed Wase, had also visited the former Lagos governor and endorsed his candidacy for the 2023 presidency.

A day before his arrival in Nigeria on Friday, Sanwo-Olu and other party chieftains in Lagos had inaugurated the South-West Agenda 2023, a political movement mobilising support for Tinubu to contest the 2023 presidential election.

2023: APC Endorses Pro-Osinbajo Support Group

Supporters of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, under the aegis of the Progressives Consolidation Group, have received the approval of the All Progressives Congress to canvass support for his emergence as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 presidential election.

The approval was contained in a letter titled, ‘Letter of Recognition as a Support Group,’ dated October 4, 2021, and signed by the Director of Administration of the APC, Alhaji Abubakar Suleiman.

The letter, which was addressed to the PCG, read in part, “We write to inform you that the National Chairman, His Excellency, Mai Mala Buni, has approved your recognition as a support group of the party.”

Addressing reporters on the recognition, the head of the Progressive Civil Society Group, one of the sub-groups in the PCG, Mr Bala Gide, said with this development, the PCG had been given the rare privilege of becoming the first to be so recognised.

Gide said, “While we laud President Muhammadu Buhari’s forthright leadership and its populist direction which we expect an Osinbajo presidency to energetically sustain after 2023, we also applaud the focused forthrightness of the APC leadership ably led by Governor Buni.

“We deeply appreciate the widening mobilisation and deepening support that PCG and all associated groups working towards an Osinbajo presidency, all our grassroots and national leaders, as well as current governors, federal and state lawmakers along with various labour and professional groups will have further significant roles to play post-2023.

The group, however, appealed to the Vice President to yield to the public demand to declare his interest in the election.

It also promised that members would conduct themselves with decorum and respect all other aspirants who may wish to fly the APC flag in the presidential race.

Gani Adams Urges Benin Republic To Release Igboho Unconditionally As He Clocks 49 In Custody

Aareonakakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Abiodun Ige Adams has congratulated Chief Sunday Adeyemo popularly called Igboho on his 49th birthday anniversary.

Adams urged the Benin Republic government to release the Yoruba nation agitator from detention unconditionally.

Adams, in a statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Aderemi, said for Igboho to have reached 49 years old in life is a milestone and sign of maturity, adding that the best way to appreciate God in the life of the Yoruba nation agitator is to continue to live for humanity.
He, however, urged the Nigerian and the Benin Republic Government to release the activist, from the Benin Republic detention where he is currently on trial.

The Yoruba generalissimo stated further that with the present situation in the country, there’s no doubt that the struggle for the liberation of Yoruba race is still ongoing and Yoruba nation agitators both home or abroad will never relent in seeking justice and total freedom from the bondage of bad leadership.

“Whether Sunday Igboho is with us now or in Republic of Benin, I think we owe him a duty to celebrate him on the special occasion of his 50th birthday anniversary.

“The struggle for the liberation of our race is one struggle that cannot die, and no matter the threats or injustice meted out to each and every one of us by the Federal Government, we remain unshaken that the struggle for a just society where life is meaningful is a dream that can only become a reality in a Yorubaland.

“So, I am using this opportunity to urge all the six governors in the southwest to press on the Federal Government to release Igboho unconditionally. That is the only thing they can do to justify their positions and strengths as true ambassadors of the region.

“I once celebrated one of my birthdays in detention and in those trying moments, I felt the urge never to look back but look up to God and that actually raised my spirit that whether now or later justice will triumph.
“I will be set free from the bondage of injustice. And it all came to pass Unfortunately, this same experience is playing out in the case of Igboho as he turns 50 today, but I am sure that he will surely be set free because the activist is not fighting a wrong cause but a cause for the liberation of our race.

25 Million Nigerians Risk Job Losses Over Poultry Industry Crisis – PAN

The Poultry Association of Nigeria (PAN) has said that the current feed challenges facing the multi-billion naira poultry industry may take almost 20 to 25 million Nigerians out of jobs, if immediate interventions were not provided.

PAN National President, Ezekiel Ibrahim, who stated this in Abuja on Saturday during the World Egg Day celebration appealed to the federal government to come up with policies that would assist the farmers and save the industry from total collapse.

The association noted that the industry employs millions of Nigerians directly and indirectly, stressing that the entire value chain of poultry crop alone takes almost 4.5 metric tons of maize and 1.5 metric tons of soya beans annually.

Ibrahim, who was represented by the Director General of the Association, Onallo Akpa, said the collapse of Nigeria’s poultry industry would create a big market for other parts of the world who are into poultry production.

He said: “The poultry industry is about to collapse and if that happens, there are so many negative consequences that would affect the people.

“We are being challenged by maize scarcity and high exchange rate. People producing in other parts of the world are waiting to see the poultry industry in Nigeria collapse.

“If that happens, it is a big market for them because we have the population which will create a big market for them.

“We need the government to help look into some of the policies, we need their support to help grow the industry and, without their support, no matter the money we have to invest, we can’t really achieve much”.

While appealing to the federal government to intensify the school feeding program where an egg a day per child can be meaningfully implemented in the country, he urged them to make eggs part of Prisons feeding programme.

He further appealed to the federal government to consider eggs as a priority food product that could be supplied to displaced people at various locations throughout the country.

In his remarks, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) PAN chairman, Pius Aminu, said the poultry sector should be taken more seriously by the government than any other sector.

Aminu said the poultry business had been good and very encouraging for people in FCT, but with the advent of COVID-19, a lot of setbacks have met the business.

While noting that some poultry farmers have been kidnapped in recent times, he said the industry is also faced with obstacles which hinder them from moving their produce from the farm to the city center.

“In the last six months, over 2000 people have been thrown into the labour market as a result of some of the challenges the poultry farmers are facing.

“No sector in Nigeria is employing people like the poultry industry, an average farm with a population of 2000 birds needs nothing less than 10 workers” he added.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the association gave out packs of eggs to residents in the FCT to mark the celebration of World Egg Day 2021.(NAN)

Pandora Papers: Oyetola Denies Engaging In Any Wrongdoing, Says He Has No Link With Aluko

The Governor of Osun, Adegboyega Oyetola, has described as unfounded and untrue, the report linking him to the purchase of a property in London, United Kingdom.

He said that he resigned from the company, ‘Aranda Overseas Corporation’, that was allegedly used to buy the said property in 2011 upon his appointment as the Chief of Staff to the then Osun Governor, Rauf Aregbesola.

The Governor also said that he had no relationship whatsoever with Kolawole Aluko, the alleged owner of the said property let alone have any business transaction with him.

In a statement issued in Osogbo on Saturday and signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Ismail Omipidan, Oyetola revealed that he had not broken any law of the land as he also resigned his Directorship of Global Investments Offshore Limited upon his appointment, in 2011.

He thanked family, friends and associates who have shown concern through phone calls, visits and text messages over the development, assuring them that there is nothing to worry about on the matter.

The statement reads in parts: “We have seen reports in some online media platforms concerning the PANDORA PAPERS’ allegations. This is, therefore, to set the record straight.

“Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola, Governor of Osun State, resigned his directorship of Aranda Overseas Corporation in 2011, when he took up political appointment. He also surrendered his shareholding of the same company.

“Since 2011 till date, he has had no association, dealings and business transactions with the said company, as he is neither a director nor shareholder of the said company.

“He, therefore, could not have acquired the said property in 2017 either directly or through the said company as being alleged.

“As a matter of fact, Oyetola has no relationship or link with the alleged owner of the property, Mr Kolawole Aluko, let alone go into a business dealing or transaction with him.

“He also complied fully with the law of the land by exiting Global Investments Offshore Limited, as a Director in 2011, upon his appointment as the Chief of Staff to the immediate past governor of Osun, Rauf Aregbesola.

“While we appreciate family members, friends, associates and well-wishers for their show of concern over the development, we assure them that there is nothing to worry about. Mr. Oyetola has always shown that he is a man who knows and respects the law in his corporate and political endeavours.

“The God that has brought us thus far will never forsake us.”
