Ask Yourself What Went Wrong, Fayose Tells Ex-Deputy As He Withdraws From Senate Race

Former Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose, has challenged his former deputy, Prof Kolapo Olusola-Eleka, to search his soul for what went wrong in their political relationship rather than coming to public to disparage him.

Fayose, who took exception to Olusola-Eleka’s choice of words that described him as ‘deceitful and arrogant,’ stated, “As a professor of repute, I feel you should not forget history that soon by allowing yourself to be taken over by emotions such that you will speak ill of a man you once called your greatest political leader.”

Olusola-Eleka, had last week, in a letter indicating his withdrawal from the contest for the Peoples Democratic Party ticket for Ekiti South Senatorial District, said, “Fayose, who openly endorsed my candidacy for Senate in my town, discreetly aided another person from the same constituency to pick the same senatorial form. That left me with no choice but to consider his endorsement as a facade and decoy.

“Having consulted widely on the foregoing with my teeming supporters across the 16 local government areas, I have decided not to dwell where there is no sincerity of purpose, but an arrogant display of deception and hence, pull out from the contest.”

But Fayose, in a letter to Olusola-Eleka, titled, “Re: Notification of withdrawal from senatorial contest; I wasn’t deceitful and arrogant in 2014 and 2018 when I chose you as deputy, guber candidate”, considered the former deputy governor’s remark as price for leadership on his (Fayose’s) part with all necessary lessons learnt.

The former governor said the public which Olusola-Eleka had attempted “to get their sympathy against me cannot be fooled. They certainly have a sense of history. Eleka, as I always call you, I think it is time you do a soul searching and ask yourself what went wrong.

“Have you forgotten that you were in the classroom when I brought you to be my deputy in 2014 without being part of my emergence as a PDP candidate? This is aside the fact that you were unknown to anyone in the party then. Then, I was not deceitful and arrogant, but the best if I may quote you rightly.

“Recall it was a condition precedent that we will leave office together in 2018. Rather than leaving with you, I endorsed you as PDP governorship candidate and by the grace of God, you emerged the candidate against all odds and interests. I became the enemy of those who were opposed to your emergence as a candidate without being tagged as deceitful and arrogant.

“I also worked tirelessly for your election as governor, and you know that you are not the governor of Ekiti State today, not because we lost the election. Then, I was to you, the greatest among leaders.

“Unfortunately in 2022, for reasons best known to you, you missed the privilege of being endorsed as I did in 2018; part of what earned me your new title of deceitful and arrogant. I have become a man you openly disparage, forgetting that every day is not Christmas.”

Indications have emerged that President Muhammadu Buhari is set to meet with presidential aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the party’s primaries.
It was gathered that Buhari will use the opportunity of the meeting to help reduce the number of presidential hopefuls.

He is expected to ask them to accept the outcome of the primary as was done during the APC presidential primary in 2014.

“The President will meet with the aspirants a few days to the primary with a view to ensuring that there is unity and harmony. He will also meet with the governors separately. The date is not fixed yet, but it should be this week if INEC doesn’t extend the deadline for the primary as we are all hoping,” an APC chieftain who wished to remain anonymous revealed.

“The President has a candidate. How to present the idea to the likes of Tinubu will be the challenge,” he added.

When contacted on the telephone, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said he was not aware of such a meeting.

“I am not aware of any meeting as of now,” he said.

According to The PUNCH, some major aspirants have started approaching the less popular aspirant to drop their ambition and support theirs with promises to refund the N100 million used to purchase the party’s form or promises of they will be given juicy appointments.

Blasphemy: Wole Soyinka demands sacking of National Mosque Imam

Following the recent riot in Sokoto State over alleged blasphemy, Nobel laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, on Saturday called for the sacking of the Imam, National Mosque, Abuja, Professor Ibrahim Maqari, over a comment on the killing of Deborah Samuel.

Recall that Deborah, a 200-level student of the Shehu Shagari College of Education in Sokoto was killed by Muslim men who accused her of blasphemy against the Prophet Muhammad.

Reacting to the unfortunate incident, Mr Maqari stressed that the Muslims have some red lines which must not be crossed, saying if issues of blasphemy against the prophet are not addressed, the Muslims would address it themselves.

Speaking in Abuja on Saturday during the one-year remembrance of the late former Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, Soyinka accused the Imam of directing followers to take laws into their hands.

Soyinka said, “Professor Maqari, however, insists, with a handful of others, including vocal serving policemen quite recently, that there is no remorse involved in the torture and lynching of a young student on this earth.

“Maqari has implicitly directed his followers to take the law into their own hands in the name of religion, and innovation. That is the message of a supposedly holy man to a nation embroiled in his madness of multiple incidences.”

I joined PDP To Assist Makinde In Achieving His Dreams For Oyo State – Olasupo

Hon. Abiodun Olasupo, a former member of the House of Representatives who represented Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Kajola and Iwajowa, explained on Sunday why he decided to join the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Waterfield Luxury Hotel, Akobo, Ibadan.

The Iseyin-born politician revealed that his close relationship with Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, when he was a lawmaker until now, his enthusiasm for a better Oke-Ogun and overall development of Oyo State, and Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State’s outstanding performance drove him to join the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

While answering questions from journalists in Abuja, Olasupo said that his closeness to Governor Makinde’s Chief of Staff, Hon. Segun Ogunwuyi, who was also a member of the House of Representatives between 2015 and 2019, was another strong factor in his decision.

Abiodun further hinted that he had left the All Progressive Congress (APC) since 2018 and has never looked back despite that he has individuals he respected and can work for their candidacy in the party. He went further to say that political system in Nigeria gave no room for strict party loyalty but loyalty to the people that politicians represent as situations gave birth to parties coalition and other permutations, especially to win election. “People have been asking for my reason for joining PDP, their enquiries are genuine and I have to tell them that the current Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri is a friend from our days in the House of Representatives till today and he is influential to my joining the PDP. My working relationship with gov Seyi Makinde during the last election, his developmental projects in Oke-Ogun and my relationship with the chief of staff to the governor Hon Ogunwuyi are also factors.

“Apart from all these, remember that I once predicted that APC as a party was molded in the figure of President Muhammad Buhari and May go into oblivion immediately after his tenure of office, that is gradually happening, just watch out. “I don’t know why some people are still tagging me to APC, on three occasions, APC oyo released the list of its statutory delegates and on all occasions my name was missing, that should reveal the fact APC is aware of my continued exit from the party since 2018. “In Nigeria, a conscientious individual in politics cannot leave the will and aspirations of his people and follow party dogmas, what is the essence of joining party in the first place, is it not to better the condition of your people? “I don’t think anybody should be talking about why people joined PDP in Oyo State anymore because the Governor has performed”.

Oke-Ogun Lokan: Confusion As Shina Peller, Fatai Buhari’s Loyalists Clash Over Choice Of Meeting Venue In Saki

The battle of who will clinch the APC Senatorial ticket of Oyo North Senatorial District between the duo of the member representing Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Iwajowa/Kajola Federal Constituency, Hon. Shina Peller and the serving Senator of the zone, Senator Fatai Buhari who is currently jostling to return to the upper chamber for the third term has taken a new dimension as loyalists believed to be supporting his third term agenda gathered yesterday in Saki Town Hall where a solidarity support was held to publicly announce their vote of confidence for him.

ODUDUWA NEWS gathered that a group of people under the aegis of Oke-Ogun Indigenous Youth Solidarity Forum also assembled in Saki where they held a summit to kick against what they termed as injustice to the zone should Ogbomosho indigene returns to the Senatorial seat for third term.

This newspaper reliably confirmed that the two camps almost clashed over the choice of venue of their meetings as Saki City Hall was chosen for the two different meetings. It was also learnt that the hotel accommodation booked by the loyalists of Shina Peller was also booked by Fatai Buhari camp and it led to disagreement.

It was learnt that Shina Peller had earlier made payment to the hotel to accommodate his people but loyalists of Fatai Buhari having had premonition on what the gathering of Shina Peller’s camp was all about made a swift move to foil their plan by booking the same hotel accommodation booked by the loyalists of his rival in the zone.

In the meeting held yesterday, the former Commissioner for Works, Alh. Wasiu Azuzu believed to be the arrowhead, championing the third term agenda of Fatai Buhari among several other APC leaders declared their vote of confidence and solidarity support for the return of Fatai Buhari for the third term.

In the meantime, the group of people under the aegis of Oke-Ogun Indigenous Youth Solidarity Forum in their summit held simultaneously with the declaration of support by Fatai Buhari’s group kicked against third term agenda of Senator Fatai Buhari and vowed that they would mobilize against any candidate vying for the Senatorial seat outside Oke-Ogun region. The group invited all Oke-Ogun indigenes contesting in the zone for meeting and had in attendance, the two leading senatorial aspirants under the platform of APC in attendance, Saheed Alaran and Shina Peller. They however called on all stakeholders in Oke-Ogun to ensure that the zone is not marginalized politically as it would be a total injustice should Ogbomosho with three local government councils lord themselves over a region with ten local government areas.
