The former President of the federal republic of Nigeria, chief Olusegun Obasanjo drove a commercial tricycle, popularly known as Keke NAPEP, to pick intra-city passengers in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, on Saturday.
This was done in commemoration of his 85th birthday anniversary.
Obasanjo said that his action was informed by the desire to show the teeming youths that there were many opportunities to legitimately make a living in the country.
The former president added that his action was to further stress what he said earlier that with ‘Keke NAPEP’ business, which his government launched in November 2002, Nigerian youths could still be self-reliant.

He said the command was aware of the report of the yet-to-be-identified lady who might have been diabolically used for money ritual by a suspected internet fraudster otherwise called Yahoo boy.Oyeyemi said,
“The young lady in question was alleged to have been spiritually and diabolically used by a suspected yahoo boy, as a result of which she started barking like a dog.”
The General Manager of Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), Arc. Gbolahan Oki, has again decried the alarming rate of defective structures in different parts of Lagos Island, assuring that the agency is working hand in hand with other relevant stakeholders in the built sector to restore sanity to Lagos Island and other parts of the State.
Oki, who led an enforcement gang of the agency on an inspection of buildings in some parts of Lagos Island on Thursday, disclosed that the team had to issue abatement notices to some non-confirming structures in the areas visited.
He warned inhabitants of physically-distressed structures to desist from always asking for additional weeks and months before they can vacate affected buildings when the structure is already a disaster in waiting.
His words: “Our emphasis has always been that whenever we discover that a particular building is distressed, what is expected of you is to vacate such a building immediately without waiting for any prompting from government officials because a distressed building will not give warning before it collapses”.
The General Manager said although the demolition gang of the agency usually faced the challenge of accessing some areas with the demolition equipment, it will continue to explore other available options to ensure that all marked distressed structures are safely brought down.
He also disclosed that LASBCA had demolished over 20 distressed buildings in the last three months in different parts of the State and gave an assurance that others already marked for demolition would soon be pulled down by the Agency.
Listing locations of some defective structures identified during the enforcement exercise as 25 and 26 Koilo Street, as well as 26 Atiko along Koilo on Lagos Island, the General Manager maintained that the buildings are going to be demolished within the next two weeks because they constitute a danger to the occupiers in their present state.
Oki, who had earlier paid a visit to the Palace of Oba of Lagos, HRM, Oba Rilwanu Akiolu I, to seek the consent of the traditional ruler on the enforcement exercise, said the State Government will continue to identify and demolish property that poses risks to the lives of Lagosians.
Responding, Oba Akiolu pledged his support to the government and pleaded for a more holistic approach to building control activities by nipping substandard construction in the bud from the planning stage of construction works.
He charged LASBCA to increase its staff strength so that the entire nooks and crannies of the State can feel their presence such that non-conforming construction works going on in some parts of the State can be easily and quickly discovered by officers right from inception.
During the enforcement exercise, some buildings under construction as well as those at various stages of renovation were sealed by the Agency. The affected buildings are located at 45, Enuowa Street, 42, Ricca Street and Iga Idugaran Street, all on Lagos Island.
The Universal Basic Education Commission has commended the qualitative education pupils in Oyo State are enjoying under the Governor Seyi-Makinde led administration. The Commission has also called on the state government to recruit more teachers into primary schools.
The Executive Secretary, Universal Basic Education Commission, Dr. Hamid Bobboyi gave the charge today in Ibadan, as part of the 2022 National Personnel Audit team’s recommendation to the State Government.
Bobboyi said the need to recruit more teachers became manifest during the just concluded Personnel Audit Exercise in the state by the Commission in collaboration with OYOSUBEB.
He however commended the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board for cooperating with its Audit team in the conduct of the National Personnel Audit Exercise.
Speaking through the head of the team, Engr. Muhammed Bello, the ES said, “we urge the Oyo State Government to look into recruitment of teachers into the public primary schools in the State”.
He pledged the commitment of the commission to look into other areas to move basic education forward in Oyo State.
He added that the National Personnel Audit Exercise was a major activity in data gathering used in planning and development of education.
Bobboyi said that the commission discovered a lot of progress made, compared to the previous exercise.
According to him, “Though entry is still ongoing, we would give the Board updates on the list and give the State government accurate data in order to plan and develop basic education.”
He solicited the cooperation of other stakeholders in education in ensuring accurate data so as to know where every Nigerian child of school age was at any given time.
Responding, the Executive Chairman, Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran admitted the shortage of teachers in the State, saying the State Government is making efforts to look into fresh recruitment and replacement of seconded teachers in the state.
“We are aware of the shortage of teachers in our primary schools. The State Government under the leadership of our dear Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde is making efforts to ensure the problem is resolved in time”, Adeniran added.
He added that the State Government will continue to collaborate with the Federal Government and other relevant agencies to ensure the public education sector in the State thrives.
Adeniran also hinted that school owners and proprietors operating illegally in the State would be made to face the law.
He warned such schools to regularise their registration by visiting the ministry of Education, Ibadan.
Adeniran reiterated the Oyo State government’s commitment at revamping education in the state.
Dr. Adeniran commended the National Personnel Audit team’s report on data of schools in the State, adding that the update will help the State in planning its education in the forthcoming fiscal budget.

A 3-year-old boy identified as Faruq Saluhu, has been declared missing in Otto community, in Ebute-Meta area of Lagos State.
It was gathered that Faruq disappeared around 1pm on Tuesday, June 28, in the palace area of the community.
According to Punch, the latest incident happened a year after about seven children disappeared from the community.
Faruq’s mother, Selepha Saluhu, lamented that efforts by the family to find him had proved abortive.
“Faruq came back from school yesterday (Tuesday). I fed him and he went to his father’s shop nearby to play. I was told that he followed one of his friends who was asked to buy sachet water. The other boy returned, but my son never came back. When my husband did not see him after a while, he immediately told me that he was missing and carried out a search for him, but to no avail,” she narrated.
The 38-year-old housewife noted that her husband later reported the matter at the Iponri Police Station.
The Head of the Lagos Mainland Security Team, Ishola Agbodemu, who confirmed the incident said the disappearance of children in the community had become a serious cause for concern.
“The disappearance of Faruq onT uesday, makes him the 10th child to go missing in this community. We have made efforts by reporting to the police. This issue of children going missing has also been reported in the media, but there is no change.”
Agbodemu added that all the missing children were male.
