Folarin, Adelabu Are Comedians, They Are No Match For Makinde — Oyo PDP

According to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chapter for Oyo State, none of the candidates running for governor of the state in 2023 has the ability to unseat Governor “Seyi Makinde” given his track record of successful leadership.

The Publicity Secretary of the PDP in Oyo State, Engr. Akeem Olatunji, stated this in an interview on Wednesday.

The current governor, according to the ruling party, would easily defeat the candidates for governor of the Accord Party and the All Progressives Congress, Senator Teslim Folarin and Bayo Adelabu.

He said that because Governor Makinde had put in such a lot of effort on behalf of the state’s citizens, they would thank him by electing him to another four-year term at the polls.

“Adelabu and Folarin are comedians. They are only on the stage to entertain the people of Oyo State. They are not strong contenders and this is what you can get if you go round the state. They are no match for Governor ‘Seyi Makinde.

“The massive infrastructure which the administration has given the people of Oke–Ogun will speak for Governor ‘Seyi Makinde. This will transform into votes. The LAUTECH crisis which the governor was able to resolve after so many years will make the people vote for him again. The APC governors could not resolve it even when their current presidential candidate, ( Asiwaju Bola Tinubu) was the chancellor of the university, they could not resolve it, but Governor Makinde did it. Students wasted about three years at home because of the crisis.

“In Ibadan, many developmental projects have been done and many are still going on. Those ones will count for him when it is election time.

“Apart from those ones, salaries and pensions are paid regularly because their welfare is uppermost in the mind of the governor. Our pensioners are no more dying of hunger. You will discover that about N12 billion is being injected into the economy of the state.

APC Chieftain Knocks Tinubu, Says He Is Claiming Fashola, Ambode’s Achievements In Lagos

A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Tunde Bank-Anthony, says the presidential candidate of the ruling party for the 2023 elections, Bola Tinubu, cannot claim glory for the successes recorded by the administrations of former governors Babatunde Fashola (also known as BRF) and Akinwunmi Ambode.

“The people that succeeded Asiwaju (Tinubu), BRF succeeded him and his eight years was more visible than Bola Tinubu’s eight years…He (Tinubu) cannot claim glory for what they did; it’s not possible,” Bank-Anthony said on Wednesday when he featured as a guest on Channels Television’s breakfast programme, Sunrise Daily.

According to him, Ambode was a performing governor who was yanked off and disallowed to return to office for second term.

Since Nigeria’s return to democracy in 1999, Ambode is the only former governor of the state who was in office for a single term. Tinubu was governor between 1999 and 2007 before he handed over to Fashola who was in office from 2007 to 2015.

Ambode took over in 2015 but lost his re-election at the primary level in the 2019 electioneering process due to intra-party squabbles as APC strongman in Lagos (Tinubu) was reported to have favoured the incumbent governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, over Ambode.

Sanwo-Olu, who clinched the party’s ticket and won the 2019 governorship election, has again secured APC’s ticket for his re-election in the 2023 polls.

In his interview with Channels Television, Bank-Anthony, who is also a spokesperson for Concerned Lagosians, said Tinubu is not the founder of modern Lagos and his men should not trivialise the contributions of Ambode and Fashola in Lagos or make them inferior to Tinubu’s.

He said, “I read something not too long ago, the chairman of the party in Lagos said Ambode did not follow the blueprint of Lagos. What is the blueprint of Lagos? It should be online for people to see.”

On why Ambode could not get the party’s ticket for re-election, the APC chieftain said, “The primary was held in Lagos, Clement Ebri was in Lagos and he said it loud and clear that there was no primary but he later turned around and said, ‘Okay, let’s accept it like that’.

“Ambode was a loyal party man and he stood by it and accepted it. And he has never made a comment about it since that day but people are insinuating so many things about him.”

Since he ended his single term in 2019, Ambode has not been seen at political or social functions with his predecessors – Tinubu and Fashola. He has also not been seen at events with the incumbent governor.

The Oyo State government has raised alarm and warned residents of Ijaye, Ido, Olowo-Igbo, Iseyin and Ibarapa against drinking water from contaminated streams in their communities.

Waterfiled Luxury Hotel, Akobo Ibadan

Abiodun Oni, commissioner for environment and natural resources, issued the warning on Wednesday in Ibadan. He claimed that a truck carrying chemicals dumped its load into a drainage system, which was then flushed into the streams that run through the five communities.

According to Oni, the truck was transporting materials thought to be chemicals for creating soap when it was involved in a collision on the Iroko-Oyo expressway.

The chemicals said to be used for soap making got leaked into the drainage which eventually contaminated the streams that flow through the five settlements, lowering the water’s quality and making it dangerous to both humans and the ecosystem as a whole.

The Statement further revealed that farmers who planted their cash crops within the affected areas as well as fishermen should suspend every activity within the vicinity until the waters have been tested and considered safe for consumption.

The statement further added that the government is on top of the situation as the Ministry has dispatched some of their staff to the affected areas to continue to monitor the situation while also conducting a water sampling until the water can be ascertained safe for consumption.

“The State government will continue to ensure that the ecosystem is protected in the state” he added

Consequently, the statement charged citizens to also take responsibility by properly handling and disposing of chemical substances and other biodegradable items and ensuring that they do not end up in the streams.

“Furthermore, they should jettison the bad culture of dumping wastes into drainages as they eventually find their ways into streams and rivers and eventually make up their way in the food chain process as such posing threats to all humans”, the statement concluded.
