His Imperial Majesty, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja 11, Ooni of Ife has signified his readiness to lead all Yoruba indigenous Obas and Stakeholders to canvass support for APC Presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
Recall, the traditional rulers in Yoruba had played host to Bola Tinubu on Thursday at University of Ibadan International Conference Centre when he came to Ibadan for his Presidential Campaign.
According to Ooni of Ife who led the other traditional rulers, “this remains eternally important to the growth and development of the Yoruba heritage for all leading Obas in Yoruba Land to stand in unity behind their son ahead of the 2023 Presidential Election.
Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu while talking said he was indeed grateful to all the Royal Father particularly to the Ooni of Ife for his fatherly role in building peace and unity in Yoruba Land, which is more needed at this trying times to build one Nigeria of our dream predicated on his renewed hope Agenda 23.
The Osun State Chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a strong warning to Senator Ajibola Bashiru, the All Progressive Congress (APC) Senatorial candidate for Osun Central Senatorial district and his thuggish supporters to bring to an immediate halt, the current wave of violence and attacks against innocent citizens who have decided not to support his elusive re-election bid owing largely to his underwhelming outing in his rather forgotten first term tenure as a Senator representing Osun Central senatorial district.
This latest call by the Caretaker Committee Chairman of the PDP, Dr Akindele Adekunle becomes necessary after the attack on the lives of innocent citizens of ward 14, Oke baale community in Osogbo LG of Osun State today 17th February, 2023 leaving so many casualties with varying degrees of injuries and gunshot wounds.
Describing the incident as one attack too many by the irrepressible and increasingly untamable Senator Bashiru, who continue to display high level of democratic intolerance necessary in the 21st century modern world by deploying his might against whoever dare enough to oppose his rather unfortunate second term ambition, Dr Akindele insists that no amount of violence can save Senator Bashiru from the impending defeat from the upcoming election.
“We are tired of this incessant attacks on the members of the public by Senator Bashiru’s operatives, election is not a do or die affair and to attempt to represent the people against their wish is not only undemocratic but also a prelude to a state of anarchy. Senator Ajibola after exhausting the goodwill freely given to him by the people of Osun central some 4 years ago cannot force his way into their heart again”. He stated.
This is coming on the back of Senator Ajibola’s visit to ward 4 Okebaale Osogbo this evening for his re-election campaign where he was unsurprisingly welcome with an uninspiring and scanty audience of uninterested citizens, having experienced his rather unfortunate disaster called a 4 years tenure. Rather than accept the will of the people as it’s the tenet of democracy, Senator Ajibola after being ignored by the people got angry and unleashed his thugs against the innocent citizens who are under no obligation whatsoever to welcome him against their wish.
“The people refused to welcome him into their midst, as a Senator of the federal republic and a lawmaker, he should have respected the wish of the people instead of ordering his thugs to deal with them. The violence he ordered has left several people injured and these are the same people he swore to represent their interest”
He however warned that the silence of the ruling party PDP is not of a coward but one that comes with great respect for constitutional authorities and respect for the rule of law, warning that the PDP as a party have shown immense leadership by trusting the security agencies for maintaining law and order during this period of electioneering campaign and insisting that the PDP should not be pushed to fight back under no condition.
“We have remained calm and continue to rein in on our people to remain peaceful, but the security agencies must ensure that no one is above the law. They should ensure proper investigation, arrest and prosecution of hoodlums threatening the peaceful conduct of the forthcoming elections. We are law abiding and want to continue to show this no matter the level of provocation”, he concluded.
Three people on Friday died in a well at a construction site in the Owode area of Ede, Osun State.
The deceased, a cleric, Adebayo Oluwasina, 46; Lateef Adediran, 22; and Waliu Adediran, 31; met their death while attempting to recover a bucket that fell into a well.
A resident of Alaro Onigbin community in Owode Ede, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Waliu and Lateef were bricklayers engaged by Adebayo at his construction site.
He said at the commencement of the day’s work, a bucket being used to draw water fell into the well within the construction site and one of the two bricklayers went in search of it but got trapped.
“The younger of the two bricklayers was the one fetching water when the bucket fell inside the well. The boy entered the well to recover it, but did not come out. After some minutes, his elder brother, Waliu, went into the well to rescue him, but also got trapped inside.
“The owner of the site, Pastor Shina, also went into the well in a bid to rescue the two persons who earlier got trapped, but he also could not come out.
“The incident threw our community into panic and firemen from the Osun State Fire Service were called to the scene. They were eventually recovered from the well by the fire service men, but not alive.”
The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo has disagreed with the position of President Muhammadu Buhari on the naira redesign policy.
Speaking on Friday during a live interview appearance on Channels Television, Keyamo who is also the Official Spokesperson for All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council said Buhari was wrongly advised to disobey the Supreme Court order on the validity of the old naira notes.
He argued that the action taken by Buhari contradicts the order of the Supreme Court and that nobody should be above the law.
ODUDUWA NEWS recalls President Buhari had on Thursday in a nationwide broadcast, approved the continuous usage of the old 200 naira notes as a legal tender until the 10th of April.
The president stated that the old 200 naira notes will be distributed back into circulation by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
He however added that the old N500 and N1,000 are no longer legal tenders.
This is contrary to an earlier order of the Supreme Court on the matter which had directed that all the old notes should remain legal tenders until a final judgment is given in the matter before the apex court.
The development had generated mixed rections and in attempting to absolve himself of the blame, Keyamo during his interview on Friday said he wasn’t part of those who advised Buhari on the matter but if it had been up to him, he would have told the President to fully obey the Supreme Court order and allow the old naira notes remain in circulation beyond February 10 pending a final determination of the suit before the apex court.
There was palpable tension along the Isheri-Igando area of Lagos Stare on Friday as protesters barricaded the road over the rejection of old naira notes by commercial transport workers.
The protest, which started in Igando in the early hours of Friday and was later put to an end by policemen and other security operatives from Igando PYO Peshawar Division.
Another protest however erupted at the Oko Filling end of the road, as the protesters set bonfire on the road, preventing commercial bus drivers from working.
Soldiers and Policemen have been mobilized to various places in Lagos to maintain laws and order.
The Osun State Government has dissolved the Osun Youth Empowerment Scheme (O-YES), creating the scheme under a new name “Imole Youth Corps”.
In a circular issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Teslim Igbalaye, the State Government said the decision was taken to reposition the Youth empowerment programme inherited from the previous government for effective functionality, sustainability and dignity of labour.
The step according to the circular was to fulfill one of the electoral promises of Governor Ademola Adeleke in ensuring meaningful and proper youth Engagement in the state.
It added that application forms is now available for prospective youths in all the 30 LGs including Ife East Area Office of the State, FREE of charge beginning from today Friday, 17th February, 2023.
The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu refused to give a speech to the gathering of the party faithfuls who waited endlessly today for his arrival.
It was learnt that the presidential candidate of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu had a meeting with the executive Governor of the State, Engr. Seyi Makinde.
Many people had thought he would address the supporters who had assembled at Mapo Hall as early as 9am.
However, unlike previous campaigns of recent, Tinubu made a brief appearance in Ibadan and he failed to deliver a speech.
As early as 7am on Thursday, a crowd of party faithfuls had thronged the venue of the campaign awaiting Tinubu’s arrival. Shortly after his arrival, there were cheers from the crowd.
On mounting the podium, the presidential candidate, Asiwaju Tinubu immediately raised the hands of the gubernatorial candidate of the party, Senator Teslim Folarin and left immediately without uttering a word. This action left many party faithfuls perplexed as some opined that he should have addressed the supporters who had shelved their economic activities for today for the purpose of receiving him at the rally.
.The APC candidate thereafter returned to his seat, a situation that made the Master of Ceremony announce the end of the campaign in Oyo State. The whole scenario played out within seven minutes.
ODUDUWA NEWS has gathered that the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has been received by the Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde at the government house.
The supporters of the APC have assembled at Mapo Hall in waiting for the arrival of the presidential candidate.
Many supporters who spoke to ODUDUWA NEWS Correspondent under the condition of anonymity at the venue of the campaign expressed their displeasure on the inability of the presidential candidate to arrive at Mapo Hall, venue of the campaign as scheduled.
As many people await his arrival, some of the supporters were seen leaving the campaign venue angrily.
The National Examinations Council, NECO, has announced the release of the result of the November/December 2022 Senior School Certificate Examination, SSCE.
Registrar of NECO, Prof Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, who made the announcement in Minna, Niger State, on Thursday, said, 59,124 candidates sat for the examination, with 31,316 males, representing 52.96 per cent, while 27,808, representing 47.03 per cent were female.
“Also 46,825 candidates, representing 79.20% got five Credits and above irrespective of English Language and Mathematics.”
Candidates are therefore advised to start checking their results.
Femi Gbajabiamila, the speaker of the House of Representatives, has attributed the current hardship occasioned by fuel and naira scarcity to “elements” bent on scuttling APC presidential candidate Bola Tinubu’s victory at the February 25 poll.
Mr Gbajabiamila stated this in Lagos on Tuesday during the launching of the second phase of a transport initiative called ‘Gbaja Ride’ for his Surulere constituents. The 35 low-fare buses will ply different routes in Surulere and its environs.
“As your representative and speaker, I have a good understanding of the current hardships and discomfort being faced by many Nigerians, without exception to my constituents,” Mr Gbajabiamila explained. “The lower legislative chamber under my leadership has been on the side of the people, working tirelessly to rescue them from these difficulties. I am glad that the judiciary has also confirmed our position on the implementation of the policy of naira redesign.”
He explained that the new naira banknotes policy was a well-thought-out one, which had unfortunately been hijacked and politicised, alleging that some elements created a crisis around the policy to stop Mr Tinubu from becoming the next president.
Mr Gbajabiamila said the plot seemed to be failing as Nigerians still keep faith with the APC and Mr Tinubu despite the chaos following the naira scarcity.
“Nobody can convince me that it is not a plot to stop Asiwaju from becoming the president of this country. But I am glad that our God is a wonderful being as the plot these people sat together to hatch, he has intervened,” said Mr Gbajabiamila.
He added, “I have followed the campaign team to the East, North and everywhere with Asiwaju, and I doff my hat for Nigerians”.
