The Executive Chairman of Saki West Local Government, Honourable Sharafadeen Omirinde, has just been suspended by Oyo State House of Assembly.
The petition was brought to the House by members of the Local Government legislature and signed by over two-third of the Councilors in Saki West LG.
Omirinde was accused of illegally diverting the sum of 63 Million Naira belonging to the Local Government into a private purse, religious bigotry, anti-party activities Amon others.
The House declared Omirinde suspended on Tuesday during its plenary sitting.
The House also directed the vice chairman of the local government to take over while Omirinde steps aside to allow for proper investigation by concerned committee of the house.
ODUDUWA NEWS has gathered that a lecturer of University of Ibadan, identified as Professor Opeyemi Ajewole popularly known as Iroko was killed by unknown gunmen
It was gathered that the lecturer was killed at his residence at Orogun area, Akinyele Local Government of Oyo State.
The incident which occurred last night.
According to a family source who revealed to ODUDUWA NEWS, Professor Opeyemi Ajewole of University of Ibadan was killed by suspected “hire killers” at his residence in Orogun area of Ibadan.
He was said to have been shot dead while returning home after leaving University of Ibadan.
The assailants took his car away after killing him but the car was later found along Ibadan-Oyo road.
Until his death, Opeyemi Ajewole was a Professor of Social and Environmental Forestry at the University of Ibadan.
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has suspended its planned strike over the hike in fuel price as a result of subsidy removal.
Nigerian government delegation again summoned the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC to a meeting at the Presidential Villa Abuja over the grievances emanating from the fuel subsidy removal.
At the end of the meeting, NLC announced that some measures had been put in place and an agreement was reached for the strike not to go on as planned.
“Consequently, the parties agreed as follows: A. The NLC to suspend the strike forthwith to enable further consultations…The Labour Centres and the Federal Government to meet in June 19 to agree on an implementation framework,” a new communique issued by the NLC partly read.
The NLC, led by its President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, had arrived at the Presidential Villa at about 5:45 pm on Monday.
Nolywood actress, Iyabo Ojo, has publicly criticized Governor Sanwo Olu and the entire Lagos state government for the exorbitant tax bill sent to her.
Iyabo Ojo took to her Instagram page to share photos of the bill and expressed her dismay, saying, “@jidesanwoolu @lagosstategovt, how do you come up with these outrageous personal income taxes that you send on a daily basis? After paying various taxes for my businesses, house, and more, you still present me with this enormous amount and give me a mere 7 days to pay up. It’s quite amusing.”
She further highlighted her previous encounter with the government “Last time, you asked me to come to your office, explain my earnings, and declare them, which I did. But disappointingly, you didn’t respond to my letter. Instead, you expect me to pay an exorbitant sum that I simply do not possess. Should I resort to stealing? I ask again, how do you come up with such outrageous bills?”
Expressing her dissatisfaction, Iyabo Ojo emphasized that the government has not offered her any support or assistance, despite her self-reliance in raising her children and others. She stated, “What have you ever done for me as a government? Absolutely nothing! I have single-handedly provided for my children, many others, and myself without any form of assistance from the government. Yet, you feel entitled to harvest over 100% from where you haven’t sown.”
In her impassioned message, Iyabo Ojo pointed out the challenges of surviving in the country without government support, while the authorities continuously generate unreasonable bills.
She concluded, “Nothing seems to be functioning properly in this country, yet you insist on taking from where you haven’t contributed. So, if you insist, go ahead and shut down my business, arrest me, imprison me, or even take my life. We will all d!e someday, and I will never fear the inevitable. I cannot give what I do not possess.”
Lagos state government has told Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo to pay a total sum of N18,640,092.00 as personal income tax within seven days.
According to Lagos government, Iyabo Ojo has a tax liability of N7,376,000.00 for the year 2022 and an outstanding liability of N11,264,092 for 2021 income year.
The actress was given a 7-days ultimatum to pay up or face consequences.
Responding to the letter, Iyabo Ojo faulted the process at which the tax amount was reached.
Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, CON, has described the 5th June, 2022 terror attack in Owo as a devastating tragedy that struck the government and people of the state.
The Governor said the state will always remember the tragedy that befell Owo Kingdom following the attack on innocent worshippers at St. Francis Catholic Church, Owo.
“It’s been one year since the massacre that occurred at St. Francis Catholic Church, Owo. Forty-one persons were killed, while several others were injured. Workers of iniquity invaded our land and terminated the lives of our people. It was a black Sunday.
“One year after, we are still nursing our pain. The scars of the heavy blow dealt to us will always remind us of our losses and the pain we endured. The horrific attack was a dagger drawn into our hearts. It was the most dastardly act that could happen in any society.
“The Church of God was desecrated. A place of worship, considered safe, was turned into a slaughter slab. Our people were mindlessly killed by cowards and mass murderers. It was a tale of pain, sorrow, and fear. We are still grappling with the shock from the attack.
“So far, the Donation Management Committee on Owo Attack, led by the Commissioner for Finance, Mr Wale Akinterinwa, has reached out to the dependants of the victims and the injured. We have provided financial and medical assistance to the dependants and the injured.
“We understand that no amount of money can fill the void left by our loved ones. Our efforts are geared toward easing the burden created by the death of breadwinners in the families.
“We are constructing a fitting Memorial Park in honour of the deceased. The Memorial Park, situated opposite the Palace of Olowo of Owo, is part of our commitment to immortalise the victims of the attack.
“We once again extend our heartfelt condolences to all those who lost their loved ones in the horrific attack. We also sympathize with the injured and their families. Equally, we offer our condolences to the Catholic Church of Owo and the entire people of Owo,” the Governor said.
Governor Akeredolu expressed appreciation to the people of Nigeria for standing up for Owo and Ondo State in general during these trying times.
He particularly thanked former President Muhammadu Buhari and former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo as well as other members of the Buhari led administration for their roles and supports after the attack.
Governor Akeredolu also appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his brother Governors under the platform of Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) for their kind donations and assistance.
“We note with deep gratitude the concerns and support of all Nigerians for Owo and the state. From the North to the South, Nigerians stood with us. Your support and solidarity were a comforting balm for us in the state. We thank you.
“We thank all our security agencies. Your dedication and commitment led to the arrest of the perpetrators of this dastardly act. We are grateful to you for not letting our people die in vain. Thank you.
“We express our gratitude to all countries of the world. We use the United States as a point of contact to appreciate the international community for identifying with us and condemning the attacks.
“To everyone who made donations that were used to support the dependants of the victims and the injured, we are immensely grateful.
“Ondo State is a land of indomitable people. We are bold and brave. Nothing can deter us from the path we have chosen. Our determination to protect our land and people is unwavering. We will continue to rise above this challenge.”
“Our prayers and hopes will remain with the families of the deceased and injured. We pray that God, in His mercy, will grant the dead eternal rest. Amen.”
On Monday, Justice Olufunke Anuwe issued a restraining order barring the NLC and all of its affiliates from continuing the strike scheduled to begin on June 7 until the hearing and resolution of the main lawsuit.
The court also mandated that the NLC be served with the initial summons and motion on notice prior to the next adjourned date of June 19.
The court’s directives came as a result of an ex parte application by the federation’s attorney general’s office and minister of justice to halt the strike.
Less than 48 hours to the commencement of the proposed nationwide strike by labor Unions across the country, Oyo state governor, Seyi Makinde has moved to review salaries of civil servants in the state as part of efforts to cushion the effect of the oil subsidy removal.
Consequently, Governor Makinde has set up a committee comprising both representatives of the labor Unions and the state government. They include; the Service HOS, Permanent Secretary, Service Matters, Permanent Secretary, Establishment, Director Service Matters, Director ,Establishment, Accountant General of the state, and Permanent Secretary, Finance.
ODUDUWA NEWS reports that stakeholders present at the meeting from the side of the organised labor are ; the Nigeria Labor Congress NLC, Nigeria Union of Teachers NUT, Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees NULGE, Nigeria Union of Pensioners NUP, Joint Health Sector Union JOHESU, and Joint Negotiating Council JNC and the Chairman, Association of Senior Staff.
The governor while meeting with leadership of the unions in the state at the executive council chambers on Monday gave the Committee eight weeks to come up with a workable minimum wage.”
For this administration, with all sincerity, we think it’s time to engage and ensure that we are proactive irrespective of what is happening or coming at the national level, we already prepared for it here and we can run our programme.
“If you all remembered I said there is nothing stopping Oyo state from paying more than the national minimum wage if we had the resources, if we can expand our economy to that extent and I still believe we can do it.
“We can pay in Oyo state beyond the national minimum wage and we have to expand our economy and ensure that the relationship between the leadership of the labor unions and government remain cordial and we focus on the single objective, how to make life better for the people of Oyo state.” he said.
Governor Makinde who maintained that that there was no trust deficit between government and the labour in the state said his administration is poised to increase the Internally generated revenue IGR of the state to give the state leverage to do better in terms of meeting the needs of the people.
Earlier, Chairman Nigeria Labour Congress in the state Mr Kayode Martins who led the organised labour said the review of the new wage is long overdue lamenting the hardship being experienced by Nigeria workers since fuel subsidy was halted in last one week.
Mr Martins, however , appealed to federal government to thread with caution in handling the issue of subsidy removal.
The meeting had in attendance, the Deputy governor of the state , Barrister Bayo Lawal, , Head of Service, Olubunmi Oni, the Chief of Staff , Otunba Segun Ogunwuyi and the National Vice Chairman of the People’s Democratic party PDP, Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja.
Others are , Senator Gbenga Babalola, Senator Monsurat Sunmonu, Dr Saka Balogun, Alhaji Omokunmi Mustapha , Alhaja Mutiat Ladoja, Chief Sunday Ogunlade, Comrade Titilola Sodo and some traditional rulers in the state.
Adegoke’s Widow Makes Stunning Revelation About Being Bribed to Withdraw Case Against Husband’s Killers Bolatito, the widow of the Master’s student of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile – Ife, Timothy Adegoke, who was murdered at Hilton Hotel in Ile-Ife, Osun State, has revealed how much she was offered to withdraw the case.
The young widow said she was offered N71 million to withdraw the case against her husband’s murderer, but she rejected it. Bolatito disclosed this during an interview with The Nation newspaper on Saturday, June 3. “I was once offered a bribe of N71 million to withdraw the case against Adedoyin, but I rejected it. They offered the same to my husband’s elder brother, which he rejected.
They started threatening him, but God took all the glory. “The person that was sent to us said the money was for us to forget the case. He promised to get us a shop so that I would be selling goods. I told the person that I was not interested in the money but justice for my late husband.”
Hope in the judiciary has been rekindled, Reacting to the judgement, Bolatito said the outcome of the case had rekindled her hope in the Nigerian judiciary. Recall that Rahmon Adedoyin, the owner of the hotel, and two members of his staff were sentenced to death last week by Osun state Chief Judge, Oyebola Ojo.
Bolatito added: “Yes, my hope in the judiciary with this case has been rekindled. Some people are casting doubt that he (Adedoyin) might be replaced in prison, but I told them that God, who started His work, would finish it. I don’t have any problem with that. My confidence is in God. He stood by me, fought for me and vindicated me.
“I was inside a church praying when I was informed about the judgment. Although I wept, I give thanks to God. He showed himself strong in this matter. He backed me to get justice. I would have been happier if my husband had come back to life after the judgment.
Leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, yesterday, shunned a scheduled meeting with government officials over the removal of subsidy and subsequent over 200 per cent hike in the pump price of petrol until fuel price is returned to status quo.
Following President Bola Tinubu’s removal of the subsidy during his inauguration speech on May 29, scarcity of the product hit the citizenry nationwide as marketers hoarded and hiked the price of fuel.
A meeting between government officials and labour leaders last Wednesday, ended in a deadlock, as a result of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited, NNPCL’s release of a petrol pump price template pegging pump price of petrol at between N488 and N557 per litre.
The meeting was scheduled to continue yesterday but one of the leaders of the NLC told Vanguard that “officials of government have been calling us and we have bluntly told them that we will no longer hold any meeting with them until the pump price of petrol is returned to pre-May 29 price.
“In other words, the pump price of petrol has to return to status quo to give room for negotiation and way forward.’’
However, leaders of the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, TUC, yesterday met with government officials but the meeting was inconclusive as both parties resolved to continue talks on the issue tomorrow. They also demanded a pay rise to cushion the effects of the subsidy removal.
