Why I Bowed to People’s Pressure to Contest- Sunday Adeleke Reveals

Hon. Sunday Adeleke, popularly known as Sung Gav, has revealed that after extended consultation with regards the leadership of the Ibadan South-West local government of various political associations, groups and personalities resulted in his submission to God’s will to contest as the people’s voices matter in the political decision of any democratic society.

Adeleke said this on Wednesday, when his intentions were made known to the members of People’s Democratic Party of Ward 8, Oke-Bola axis of the local government, that bowing to the people’s pressure is the motivating drive in this new political dispensation under the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde.

He said, “I never knew that my political contributions at the grassroots level are noted by some concerned citizens, and my escapades especially at the educational front remain my topmost priority. It is a custom to always secure JAMB forms for intending university students. Considering the unparalleled success of our governor in the educational sector, I would like to compliment the giant strides at the local government level as a need to change the narratives of our children for the 21st century requirement.

“When I was called upon by our leader, Dr Nureni Aderemi Adeniran, to evaluate my proficiency as a leader it was surprising when he mentioned the construction of the bridge I singlehandedly built at Apata without holding any political position.

He also noted that, “The local government comprises of twelve (12) wards, and my ward is just one (1) out of the majority but I can tell categorically that under this political atmosphere my spheres of influence cut across boards. I appreciate the people’s opinion about me, and based on this standard I have no choice to allow my antecedents to speak for me.

“It wasn’t my political choice to contest for any position, as I assumed that the time isn’t right now but I have no other choice than to bow to the demands of people with full assurance that Ibadan South West under the collective responsibilities of everyone must outshine all the thirty-three (33) local governments of the state”.

100-Level OAU student commits suicide

A 100 Level female student of the Department of Entrepreneur, Obafemi Awolowo University has been confirmed dead upon alleged successful suicidal attempt.

The deceased identified by name, as Salako Treasure Timileyin was said to have died after a dose of a lethal substance popularly known as snipper on Wednesday with her corpse and bottle of the pesticide found in an uncompleted building of the institution’s outside campus environment.

The University’s Students’ Union who confirmed the incident stated to be a devastating occurrence in the university community and also implored students to be their brother keepers.

WAEC Candidates Sent To Prison In Ibadan Over Exam Malpractices

A Federal High Court has remanded three WAEC candidates namely Peter Aniboro, Tunde Popoola and Seun Akinola in prison over alleged examination malpractices.

Ruling on the matter, Justice Uche Agomoh admitted each of them to N500,000 bail with two reliable sureties in like sum.

The judge said one of the sureties must be a civil servant, while the second must be a family member.

Mr Agomoh then adjourned the case until September 26 for the commencement of trial.

As of the time of compiling this report, the defendants have been unable to meet the bail conditions.

The prosecutor, CSP. Oluwafunke Fawole, had told the court that the defendants were arraigned on a three-count charge of stealing, cheating and examination malpractices.

Eruwa Poly Student Found Dead In Hostel With Eyes Plucked Out, Colleagues Cry Out For Justice

The students of Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic have called on security agencies to unravel the mystery behind the death of one of their colleagues, identified as Oyindamola said to have been killed at her Idibo Hostel in Eruwa.

According to a source who spoke to ODUDUWA NEWS and did not want her name on print said, her lifeless body was found yesterday in her room with her two eyes removed.

Another student who spoke to Oduduwa News identified as Adeola said, “we want Police to investigate the death of our colleague, the Yahoo boys might have used her for ritual, we also learnt that her eyes were plucked and her breasts removed”.

“The students are currently writing exams but there was a memo circulated that they would continue exams on Friday by declaring two days to mourn her”, said Adeola.

As at the time of filing this report, no official statement has been made by Oyo State Police Command on the incident.

Nigerian tallest man Afeez Agoro Oladimeji is dead after suffering from prolonged sickness

Afeez who is the second tallest human in West Africa had been ill for months,, he went for a hip surgery after he cried out for help on social media sometime in may. He was 48 years old.

According to a friend, he was rushed to Lagos University Teaching Hospital, LUTH, yesterday evening after he developed some complications.

“I reached out to check on him as usual yesterday only to be told by someone who picked his call that he had be rushed to LUTH due to complications.

“But unfortunately, this morning I was informed he died around 7:30pm last night,” Jide Ojo-Olusola mourned.

Gbajabiamila Resigns as House of Reps Member,

Femi Gbajabiamila has resigned his membership of the 10th house of representatives.

Tajudeen Abbas, speaker of the house, read Gbajabiamila’s letter of resignation during plenary on Wednesday.

Gbajabiamila said his resignation is to enable him assume the role of chief of staff to President Bola Tinubu.

Gbajabiamila in his resignation note was quoted as thus, “to the glory of God, I resigned my membership of the newly Inaugurated 10th House of Representatives today. I had the privilege to move the first motion in the new House which was on the need to prepare to avert the negative effects of the forecast of heavy flooding in some parts of the country. The House passed the resolutions accordingly. Thereafter, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas read my resignation letter and declared my seat vacant. An opportunity for the people of Surulere 1 Federal Constituency to elect my replacement.

“I have assumed my new office as the Chief of Staff to the President in readiness to work with Mr. President in delivering his Renewed Hope agenda for Nigeria”.

Breaking: Rt. Hon. Debo Ogundoyin Re-Elected As Speaker Of Oyo State House of Assembly

Rt. Hon. Debo Ogundoyin has just been re-elected for second term as the Speaker of Oyo State House of Assembly.

The nomination was declared today at the inauguration Plenary by Hon. Dele Adeola, member representing Iseyin/Itesiwaju State Constituency after he was recognized by the Clerk of the House of Assembly.

The motion to nominate Rt. Hon. Debo Ogundoyin was seconded by Hon. Gabriel Babajide of Ibadan North.

The Speaker re-elected unopposed after the whole House unanimously gave voice votes.

The inauguration which started today at exactly 11am had several guests in attendance which include the Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Barr. Bayo Lawal, the Chief Judge of Oyo State, Justice Iyabo Yerima, traditional rulers among several others.

Chef Dammy reaches 120 hours of marathon cooking

Ekiti State chef, Damilola Adeparusi, famously called Chef Dammy has finally reached the 120-hour landmark in the ongoing cook-a-thon.

This is coming barely a few hours after record holder for the longest hours in cooking (individual category), Chef Hilda Baci, who cooked on a stretch for 100 hours, was certified by the Guinness World Records.

It was earlier reported that 26-year-old Dammy, who is passionate about her ambition had cooked up to 111 hours on Tuesday, in Oye Local Government Area in Ekiti.

Meanwhile, she had been visited by the Vice Chancellor and management of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti.

As it stands, if confirmed by the GWR, Chef Dammy will become the new world record holder.

Gov Abiodun felicitates Akpabio, Abbas, describes new NASS leadership as round peg in round hole

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun on Tuesday congratulated former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio for emerging as the President of the Senate.

Akpabio, who was also a former governor of Akwa Ibom State was elected by his colleagues on Tuesday, while Barau Jibrin emerged as the Deputy President of the 10th senate.

The governor, who personally witnessed the elections both at the Senate and House of Representatives, also congratulated Hon. Tajudeen Abbas who emerged as the Speaker of the House of Representatives with Hon. Benjamin Kalu becoming the Deputy Speaker.

Abiodun, in a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information, Mr. Waheed Adesina, described the emergence of the new NASS leadership as the final fulfilment of the installation of transformational leadership in the country, which began with the election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The governor added that the emergence of both Akpabio and Abbas as the leaders of the 10th NASS was in line with the decision of the All Progressives Congress (APC), adding that it was a testament to the confidence reposed in them by the party and their colleagues to steer the ship of the legislative arm of government.

Describing the new leadership as a round peg in a round hole, Governor Abiodun said Akpabio has a wealth of knowledge to deploy in managing the affairs of the senate having been a governor and a minister.

Hon. Abbas, the governor added has garnered the requisite legislative knowledge for a smooth working relationship with the executive.

He said that the combination of Akpabio and Abbas will help President Tinubu in his transformation agenda for the country.

He urged the lawmakers to collaborate with the leadership in foisting on the nation, a vibrant legislature, while also calling for a harmonious relationship with the executive in the quest to reposition and transform Nigeria.
