Gunmen, suspected to be kidnappers, struck yesterday in Ondo State, kidnapping Alhaji Bodunde Oyinlade, the Chief Imam of the Uso Community in Owo Local Council Area of the state in the process.
The Chief Imam was kidnapped on his farm by unknown gunmen within the community, situated along the Owo-Akure highway.
According to sources in the community, Alhaji Oyinlade, 67, had left for the farm in the afternoon when his abductors trailed him and attacked him.
A family member confirmed that the kidnappers had contacted the family but had yet to demand ransom as of the time of filing this report.
The situation had thrown the community into a state of tension, with local vigilantes already mobilized to comb the forest and rescue the Chief Imam.
Three persons were confirmed dead and two others injured on Saturday in an accident involving a Rio car and a Sino truck on the Abeokuta-Sagamu expressway in Ogun.
Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi, the Spokesperson of Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), confirmed the incident to newsmen in Abeokuta.
Akinbiyi explained that the accident occurred at 9:44 a.m and was caused by excessive speed and loss of control on the part of the Rio car driver.
He said that the accident occurred near Day Waterman College and involved a black Rio car marked AKD 827 DV and a white Sino truck with registration number WDL 466 XA.
He said that the car with four church officials was coming from Oke-Aragbiji in Osun.
According to him, eyewitnesses said the driver lost control due to excessive speed, ran over the median, and hit and uprooted the street light before colliding head-on with the truck loaded with cement.
“The truck was coming to outbound Abeokuta.
“Instantly, the three men of God died due to the impact of the collision while the driver and the passenger in front were injured,” he said.
Akinbiyi added that the injured victims were evacuated to Ijaye General Hospital in Abeokuta for treatment and the deceased were deposited at the hospital morgue.
He stated that the two vehicles had been taken to Owode-Egba Divisional Police Command for investigation.
The TRACE spokesperson commiserated with the deceased families, calling on motorists to eschew excessive speed and always take adequate rest before embarking on a journey.
No fewer than four people were on Saturday confirmed dead with many injured when an 18- passenger white Toyota Hummer bus with registration number JJJ 941 XA (Lagos) somersaulted along Ibadan/Oyo expressway.
The accident, according to Atiba Unit Commander Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC), DCC Bayode Olugbesan, was caused by over speeding and overloading.
He said 20 people were involved in the accident but only four were confirmed dead at State Hospital, Oyo.
He said four people who died in the accident had been taken to the mortuary.
“All the victims are male and their destination is North, the cause of the crash was over speeding and overloading, the bus was supposed to carry 14 passenger but was loaded with 20 passengers,” he stressed.
He however appealed to road users to be careful while driving, avoid over speeding, overloading and night travelling.

Nigerian chef, Damilola Adeparusi, popularly known as Chef Dammy, has disclosed plans to go on another 150-hour marathon cooking marathon to replace Hilda Baci as the world record holder for the longest cooking marathon by an individual.
Chef Dammy, who recently concluded a 120-hour marathon cooking on Wednesday morning, made this known in a statement shared on her Twitter handle on Saturday.
She stated that the completed 120-hour marathon cook was not registered with Guinness World Records and that she intends to embark on another 150-hour cook-a-thon that will be registered with Guinness World Records.
The statement partly read, “I know there have been many speculations about me not registering this just-concluded cooking, but my team and I have decided to embark on this new challenge next month.
“After the support that I have received from fans, well-wishers, and many highly notable individuals in society. I, Adeparusi Damilola popularly known as Chef Dammy and my team has decided to hold another cook-a-thon programme next month.
“This time, it will be held for a 150-hour, and it will be duly registered with Guinness World Records. Chef Dammy is coming back!”

The Lagos State Government on Friday began the process toward removal of distressed buildings in the Alaba International Market in Ojo Local Government of the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the enforcement team of the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) and the Lagos State Task Force embarked on the joint exercise.
The team which went round to re-seal several buildings that had been marked with previous multiple quit seal notices by LASBCA, said the measure was to prevent disaster.
They advised occupants on the need to move out of the structurally defective buildings which they said had become too dangerous for habitation.
A NAN correspondent on the delegation observed that some of the buildings undergoing reconstruction were tilted.
Conducting journalists round, the enforcement director pointed out some storey buildings that were already sinking but being extended with additional floors.
The front row of shops of one of the sinking plazas was beautifully adorned with tiles and other materials while the back was tilted on marshy land.
Some of the traders who spoke with journalists alleged that they had made some payments toward obtaining building approvals before embarking on renovations.
Responding to the situation, the General Manager, Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), Mr Gbolahan Oki, told journalists that the government was going to demolish it to save lives.
Oki said he usually panicked every time it rained because of the likelihood of any such buildings collapsing to cause mayhem.
He said the government valued the lives of residents which were more precious than the cost of any property.
According to him, the government was taking a proactive step and will demolish about 17 of the buildings which were not part of the 349 widely publicised for demolition.
Oki said the occupants had been served a series of notices since 2016 to carry out some necessary actions but they had been adamant and resorted to harassment of enforcement officials.
He added that the agency had to seek the help of the Lagos State Task Force because the occupants constantly used thugs to assault LASBCA officials whenever they embarked on enforcement.
The general manager said he had suddenly developed a phobia for rain because of the constant fear of defective buildings collapsing hence the proactive step to save lives.
“All those buildings are going to go down between now and Monday. LASBCA has given them enough notice.
“Everybody that lives in Lagos State, their lives are worth more than the cost of any building or the cost anybody is going to make on it .
“This is because when a building is going to come down, it is not going to give you a notice that I am coming down,” he said.
Oki ,however, said all the identified buildings were beyond redemption while listing attributes of distressed buildings to include those already tilting at very bad angles as well as those with different kinds of cracks.
He stated that the government had made the process of obtaining building approvals easy by establishing LASBCA district offices across all divisions.
He advised Lagos residents with valid land documents and building plan approvals to visit or write LASBCA offices for authorisation to commence construction.
Oki said this would ensure effective monitoring and supervision.
Dr Ramon Adedoyin, the owner of Hilton Hotels in Ile-Ife, Osun State, along with two of his staff members who were convicted for the murder of ex-Masters student Timothy Adegoke from Obafemi Awolowo University, have lodged an appeal against the verdict in a higher court.
Previously, Osun State Chief Judge Adepele Ojo had presided over the case and sentenced Adedoyin and his two staff members, Adeniyi Aderogba and Oyetunde Kazeem, to death by hanging for their involvement in the evacuation of the deceased from the hotel.
Justice Ojo also ruled that the hotel where the incident occurred should be forfeited to the state government, and the education of Adegoke’s children should be funded until they complete tertiary education using the assets of the convicts.
Three other hotel staff members, namely Magdalene Chiefuna, Oluwole Lawrence, and Adebayo Kunle, were acquitted of the charges. The seventh defendant, Adesola Adedeji, who was the receptionist on duty when Adegoke arrived at the hotel, received a two-year prison sentence starting from the day of her arrest.
One of the lawyers representing Adedoyin in the case, Mr Muhydeen Adeoye, confirmed that the convicts have appealed the judgment of the Osun State High Court.
He stated in an interview with a correspondent, “We have filed an appeal against the judgment of Osun State High Court. The appeal was filed before the Court of Appeal in Akure.
ODUDUWA NEWS has gathered that a SAKI Microfinance Bank Manager, aged 41 has committed suicide over unpaid loan.
The Bank Manager, identified as Ogedengbe Sola, indigene of Omu Aran was a Manager of SEAP Micro-Finance Bank at Saki was found dead in his Iseyin home on Wednesday evening.
Sola Ogungbe, a married man was reported to have given loan facilities to some of his customers who failed to pay back to the company’s account.
It was gathered that Sola’s wife was called on Wednesday afternoon by a staff of the company because the former manager had not been reporting at his place of work over the loan default crisis and on getting home to report the call to her husband, met his corpse.
A close friend of the deceased who requested anonymity said that Sola made mistake by taking his life as he supposed to have discussed his problem with his friends.
”The issue of suicide is becoming alarming, Sola made a great mistake by taking his own life because of debt, if he had shared this issue with his friends, maybe somebody would have come to his aid.
”Everyone is going through one thing or the other but our survival is anchored upon a communal living and friendship, tell people about your issues, you don’t even know who can help you,” the friend asserted.

Damilola Adeparusi popularly called Chef Dammy, has finally spoken out about her just-concluded 120-hour cook-a-thon.
Dammy, a student at the University of Oye-Ekiti, told BBC News Yoruba that she did not participate in the cook-a-thon because she wants to be a Guinness World Records holder for the longest hours spent cooking by an individual or compete with Hilda Baci, who cooked on a stretch for 100 hours.
She went on to say that she participated in the cook-a-thon because she enjoys cooking and wants others to see a young girl cook.
Speaking in the interview, she said, “About the Guinness Book of Record or competing with Hilda Baci, I only did the cook-a-thon because I love cooking. I didn’t do the 120 hours cook-a-thon for Guinness World Records to know me, I only did it for people that will wants to watch a little girl cooking.”
Chef Dammy began her 120-hour cooking marathon in Oye Local Government Area in Ekiti State on Friday, June 9, and completed the 120-hour on Wednesday morning.
