The National Economic Council (NEC) has approved five billion Naira to each State of the Federation as palliative to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal.

This was made known at the Council’s meeting presided over by Vice President Kashim Shetima and attended by State Governors and other statutory members of NEC at the State House, Abuja.

It would be recalled that President Bola Tinubu had on May 29 in his inauguration address announced the end to fuel subsidy regime owing to inherent corruption in the scheme.

FG also announced to support each state including the FCT, with five trucks of rice as State Governors finalize plans to purchase 100,000 bags of rice and beans, 40,000 bags of maize and fertilizers to cushion the impact of subsidy removal

National Economic Council (NEC) also agreed that the frontier States bordering Niger Republic are to be assisted with more palliative materials than others, considering the influx of refugees into their domains from the beleaguered neighbouring country.

The Oyo State House of Assembly has announced names of members of all its 24 standing committees for the 10th Assembly.

The announcement was made on Thursday during plenary by the Speaker, Hon. adebo Ogundoyin.

The Speaker said with the composition of the House Standing Committees, the 10th Oyo State House of Assembly is poised to function in full force.

According to the list, the Finance, Appropriation and State Economic Planning Committee has Hon. Sunkanmi Babalola and Hon.Gbenga Oyekola as its Chairman and Vice Chairman respectively while other members are Hon. Salami, Hon. Waheed Akintayo, Hon. Michael, Hon. Olorunpoto Rahman and Hon. Modiu Akande.

Security and Strategy Committee has Hon. Olalere and Hon. Jimoh as Chairman and Vice Chairman respectively while other members include Hon. Oluwafowokanmi, Hon. Ogundare, Hon. Olorunpoto Rahman, Hon. Akintunde Olajide and Hon. Rasak Mabaje.

Hon. Akintunde Olajide is the Chairman of the House Standing Committee on Local Government, Chieftaincy Matters and State Honors and his Vice is Hon. Bamidele Adeola. Other members are Hon. Onaolapo, Hon. Owolabi, Hon. Rasak Mabaje, Hon. Oparinde and Hon. Peter Ojedokun.

The Committee on Solid Minerals Development is chaired by Hon. Ogunsola while Hon. Akande is the Vice Chairman. Hon. Salami, Hon. Gbenga Oyekola, Hon. Rilwanu Saminu, Hon. Shittu and Hon. Abiola are members of the Committee.

For the Committee on Special Duties, the deputy Speaker, Hon. Muhammed Fadeyi and Hon. Sanjo Onaolapo are the Chairman and Vice Chairman respectively. Other members are Hon. Gbenga Oyekola, Hon. Yusuf Adebisi, Hon. Babajide Gabriel, Hon. Peter Ojedokun and Hon. Kehinde.

The Chairman and Vice Chairman of Education(Basic&Secondary) Committee are Hon. Ogundele and Hon. Oluwafowokanmi respectively. Members are Hon. Sanjo Onaolapo, Hon. Gbenga Oyekola, Hon. Jimoh, Hon. Babalola and Hon. Omikunle.

Hon. Oluwafowokanmi is the Chairman of Tertiary Institutions, Science and Technology Standing Committee while Hon. Rasak Mabaje is the Vice Chairman of the Committee. Hon. Sanjo Onaolapo, Hon. Abiola, Hon. Waheed Akintayo, Hon. Akande and Hon. Olorunpoto Rahman are members of the Committee.

For the Women Affairs and Community Development Standing Committee, Hon. Mrs. Olajide is the Chairman while the Vice Chairman is Hon. Rilwanu Saminu. Members of the Committee are Hon. Michael, Hon. Shittu, Hon. Azeez, Hon. Akintunde Olajide and Hon. Olalere.

The Speaker announced Hon. Ogundare and Hon. Olorunpoto Rahman as the Chairman and Vice Chairman respectively for Public Petitions, Justice and Judiciary Standing Committee. Members include Hon. Sunkanmi Babalola, Hon. Olusola Owolabi, Hon. Bamidele Adeola, Hon. Ogunsola and Hon. Jimoh.

Public Works Standing Committee has Hon. Kehinde as Chairman and Hon. Mrs. Michael as Vice Chairman. Its members are Hon. Salami, Hon. Gbenga Oyekola, Hon. Akande, Hon. Babajide Adebayo and Hon. Oluwafowokanmi.

The Chairman of Culture and Tourism Committtee is Hon. Mrs. Michael while Hon. Waheed Akintayo is the Vice Chairman of the Committee. Members are Hon. Mrs. Olajide, Hon. Oparinde, Hon. Shittu, Hon. Azeez and Hon. Rilwanu Saminu.

Hon. Peter Ojedokun chairs Agriculture and Rural Development Committee while Hon. Ogundare is the Vice Chairman. Hon. Jimoh, Hon. Yusuf Adebisi, Hon. Mrs. Olajide, Hon. Olalere and Hon. Rilwanu Saminu are members of the Committee.

For Commerce and Cooperatives, Hon. Rasak Mabaje and Hon. Mrs. Olajide are Chairman and Vice Chairman respectively. Others are Hon. Sanjo Onaolapo, Hon. Abiola, Hon. Azeez, Hon. Owolabi and Hon. Ogundele.

Youth and Sports Standing Committee is headed by Hon. Yusuf Adebisi while Hon. Shittu is his Vice. The remaining members are Hon. Babalola, Hon. Oparinde, Hon. Akande, Hon. Abiola and Hon. Babalola.

Hon. Rilwanu Saminu chairs Health Standing Committee while Hon. Babalola is the Vice Chairman. Hon. Olalere, Hon. Mrs. Olajide, Hon. Ogundare, Hon. Omikunle and Hon. Ogunsola are members.

The Committee on Environment, Water Resources and Ecology is headed by Hon. Owolabi, the Vice Chairman is Hon. Ogunsola while other members are Hon. Babalola, Hon. Gbenga Oyekola, Hon. Babalola, Hon.Babajide Adebayo and Hon. Abiola.

For the Public, Private Pratneship and Investment Monitoring Committee, Hon. Omikunle and Babajide Adebayo are the Chairman and Vice Chairman respectively while Hon. Olajide, Hon. Bamidele Adeola, Hon. Owolabi, Hon. Kehinde and Hon. Akande are members.

Establishment,Training and Poverty Alleviation Standing Committee is headed by Hon. Abiola while Hon. Azeez is the Vice Chairman. Members are Hon. Jimoh, Hon. Ojedokun, Hon. Bamidele Adeola, Hon. Olalere and Hon. Oluwafowokanmi.

Hon. Akande is the Chairman of the House Standing Cimmitttee on Foreign Relations and his colleague Hon. Waheed Akintayo is the Vice Chairman. The members include Hon. Yusuf Adebisi, Hon. Jimoh, Hon. Mrs. Olajide, Hon. Mrs. Michael and Hon. Babalola.

Energy Committee is headed by Hon. Oparinde while he has Hon. Babajide Adebayo as his Vice. Hon. Yusuf Adebisi, Hon. Akintayo, Hon. Azeez. Hon. Ogundare and Hon. Shittu are members of the Committee.

The Chairman of Transport Committee is Hon. Babalola while his Vice is Hon. Yusuf Adebisi. Members include Hon. Babajide Adebayo, Hon. Kehinde, Hon. Rasak Mabaje, Hon. Olorunpoto Rahman and Hon. Ogunsola.

The Ogun Area 1 Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has intercepted 1,245 live ammunition ingeniously concealed in 203 Bags of foreign rice abandoned in a bush path at Tombolo Junction, near Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State.

Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Bamidele Makinde, who briefed newsmen on Monday, 14 August 2023, at tCustoms House in Abeokuta, the Ogun State Capital, said the duty paid value of the seized ammunition and rice is N17.638 million Naira.

“During examination of the seized vehicles and the item, about 1,245 rounds of 70mm (2¾) live ammunition of Lion, Trust, Supreme and Redstar branded cartridges were found to have been ingeniously concealed in 20 bags of the intercepted foreign rice. While considering the potential danger of ammunition of such magnitude if successfully smuggled in, we redouble our efforts to ensure they do not find their way into the country. It is a threat to safety of the border communities and national security. We are committed to ensuring maximum security of our border lines with all sense of patriotism.” He said.

According to him, the drivers, who were suspected to have been hinted at the movement of Customs’ operatives, escaped through the bush path to evade arrest.

Speaking further, the Customs Boss said investigation is ongoing to unravel the cartel responsible for the attempted smuggling with a plea to residents to afford the Command timely and valuable information.

While commending the Officers who led the interception, the Customs Boss said the Nigeria Customs Service is committed to rewarding deserving Officers who performed exceptionally.

The Council of Ulama (Islamic clerics) in Kwara State has warned those planning to celebrate the traditional festival in Ilorin, the state capital, to take it away from the metropolis in the interest of peace.

Speaking with journalists today the executive secretary of the council, Justice Salihu Mohammed, who is a retired grand Khadi of the state and flanked by imams from the 16 local government areas of the state, made the position of the council known at the residence of the chairman of the Council of Ulama and Chief Imam of Ilorin, Sheikh Mohammed Bashir Salihu.

Justice Mohammed said the council needs to make it abundantly clear that they are not against the celebration of the Isese festival, but what is important to let the whole world know is that the people of Ilorin, have absolutely nothing to do with it.

He said that the insistence of the youth wing of the International Council for Ifa Religion to hold their festival in Ilorin on August 20, 2023, posed a danger to the security of lives and property across the state, warning that the Ifa festival, under any guise, would not be allowed in any part of the five local governments that made up the Ilorin emirate.

While appealing to Muslim youths and other stakeholders to exercise patience, Mohammed appealed to Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq “to direct all the security agencies in the state to take note of this threat to the peace and security of the state.

Nigerian street singer, Habeeb Okikiola better known as Portable has finally opened up on his alleged affair with the Late Alaafin of Oyo’s, wife, Queen Dami.

There had been news that the former Alaafin’s wife is in a relationship with Portable who recently got married to an actress.

Controversial blogger Gist Lover also alleged that the mother of one is in a relationship with Portable by sharing screenshots of their comments.

The comments were captured at different times when they exchange endearing words such as my king and queen, also using love emojis.

Finally speaking on their relationship in an interview on the Honest Bunch Podcast, Portable hinted at being in a relationship with her.

The father of five debunked reports that he is the father of her child, stating that Queen Dami, was only a fan before the death of her husband, the King.

The Oyo State House of Assembly has decried the deplorable condition of 3.5km Wofun-Kute-Jenriyin road in Lagelu Local Government area of Ibadan and other such unmotorable roads across the State and appealed to the State Government for urgent intervention.

The House made the call Tuesday while discussing a motion brought before it by member representing Lagelu State Constituency, Hon Akintunde Olajide.

The motion was titled “Need to eulogize His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde for infrastructural development strides under Omituntun 1.0 and make a passionate appeal for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of Wofun-Kute-Jenriyin road in Lagelu Local Government and other deplorable roads in the State”

The House noted that such deplorable roads across Oyo State have crippled socio-economic activities of the people.

Hon Akinjide Olajide in the motion said “The deplorable situation of Wofun-Kute-Jenriyin road in Lagelu LG requires urgent and adequate Government intervention. The condition of this road up to Kute/Jenriyin from Wofun junction which is about 3.5km calls for serious concern and immediate rehabilitation. The economic importance of this road to the residents of the area cannot be underestimated . The road serves not less than 17 communities and it leads to Olorunda-Abaa and to Yawiri, in Akobo.

” The road is presently in a terrible condition and has become almost impassable. All the box curverts have been overflowed with no sign of drainage on both sides of the road. The road is ruined completely to the extent that no one can say specifically the number of lives of Okada riders with their passengers that had been lost on this road “

Hon Olajide added that the road usually becomes completely impassable during heavy downpour, stressing that it is always a death trap whenever it rains.

The House in its resolution equally appealed to the Governor to empower the Local Government to enable them rehabilitate and reconstruct trunk ‘C’ roads at the grassroots level for delivery of more dividends of democracy to the people.

In their contributions, Hon. Olasunkanmi Owolabi (Ibadan North East 2) and Hon Babajide Gabriel (Ibadan North 2) commended Governor Seyi Makinde for his outstanding road projects during Omituntun 1.0.

They however urged the State Governor through the State Ministry of Public Works and Transport and the Oyo State Road Maintainance Agency, Oystroma to put measures in place for the reconstruction of bad roads across Oyo State.

Following the hardship currently faced by Nigerians occasioned by the removal of the fuel subsidy, the premier university, the University of Ibadan (UI), has temporarily adjusted its work schedule, allowing members of staff to come to the office three days a week.

The development was contained in a statement released by the varsity through its Senate registrar and secretary to the Senate council G. O. Saliu on Monday, August 15, which ODUDUWA NEWS sighted on its website.

UI said the decision became necessary because “the removal of subsidy by the Federal Government has imposed huge economic difficulties on the generality of Nigerians.”

It also emphasised that “given the attendant hike in the transport fare and cost of living,” staff will now work three days in rotation per week.

“The astronomical increase in the fuel pump price occasioned by the removal of subsidy by the Federal Government has imposed huge economic difficulties on the generality of Nigerians. Salary earners who have to commute to work every working day are faced with an aggravation of the condition, given the attendant hike in the transport fare and cost of living.

“After a careful consideration of the situation, the University Management recommended a temporary work schedule adjustment for members of staff, which Senate at its meeting of Thursday, 03 August, 2023 considered and approved. Accordingly, members of staff are now expected to work on site for three (3) days in rotation per week, with effect from Monday, 14 August, 2023. It should, however, be noted that those on essential duties are exempted from this adjustment,” part of the statement read.

While directing the deans, directors and heads of departments to enforce the new work policy, the university said the management will review the new work schedule “as the situation improves.”

“It should be further noted that Management will review the arrangement as the situation improves. Meanwhile, members of staff are to maintain commitment, open communication and cooperation towards ensuring a free workflow, including working from home where and when necessary.

“In light of the foregoing, Management seeks the understanding of all Deans, Directors, Heads of Departments and Units towards a smooth implementation of the intervention.“
