Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu Aketi , SAN, CON, has assented to the bill creating 33 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state.

The bill was presented to the Governor for assent by the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Oladiji Landmark Olamide , during a brief ceremony.

The Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Prince Abayomi Babatunde Akinruntan ; Majority Leader, Hon. Oluwole Emmanuel Ogunmolasuyi ; and the Parliamentary Secretary, Hon. Otunba Moyinolorun Ogunwumiju were also present.

With the Governor’s assent, the bill, which had already been passed by the state House of Assembly, now possesses the legal backing for the creation of the LCDAs in Ondo State.

The establishment of these LCDAs marks a substantial step towards fulfilling Governor Akeredolu’s campaign promises and addressing the aspirations of the people for enhanced grassroots development.

Moreover, this initiative underscores Governor Akeredolu’s unwavering commitment to improving public service delivery, as it aims at bringing governance closer to the people, ultimately resulting in more responsive and efficient services.

Governor Akeredolu remains dedicated to delivering impactful projects and innovative initiatives, just as he is poised to redouble his efforts in advancing the development of the Sunshine State.

The Police in Osun State say they have arrested the owner of Dog that attacked a woman and killed her baby in Ido-Osun area of the State.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mrs Yemisi Opalola gave the information during a telephone chat with Radio Nigeria in Osogbo.

Mrs Opalola who refused to disclose the details of the Dog owner maintained that he would be prosecuted after due investigation.

Recalled that residents of Zone E, Unity Estate, Halleluyah Area of Ido-Osun, Osun State, were on Wednesday thrown into mourning when a dog suddenly attacked a nursing mother, Nafisat Muhideen from behind and mauled her five months old baby to death.

The deceased baby, Maryam, was mauled to death by the dog, said to have been let loose in a house facing the road that Nafisat had passed in the afternoon.

Speaking with Journalists in Osogbo, the bereaved mother of the baby said she gave birth to the baby the she was told about the death of her elder brother five months.

She said she was on her way to buy drugs for the deceased who was suffering from catarrh when the dog attacked her.

Mrs Muhideen further explained the dog jumped on her from behind and forced out the baby, whom she strapped to her back before it mauled her till she died.

“My baby had catarrh earlier and I contracted the flu from her. I went out backing my baby to get drugs for her and get flu drugs for myself too, because I was feeling headache.

“When I was out to get drugs, I heard a sound from behind and by the time I turned around to check, a dog jumped me from behind.” she said.

“They dragged the baby off my back and were mauling her. I ran around calling for help but no one was around to help rescue her. I threw stones at the dog but it refused to leave the baby. It kept attacking her

“Later, some residents of the area showed up and attempted to get the baby from the dog but they could not. The dog did not leave her until it was killed. The remains of the baby facing the ground were retrieved from under the dog”

“What pain me most was that I gave birth to Maryam, the day I was informed about the death of my elder brother who died five months ago. It was a forced Labour”.

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has raised an alarm over the refusal of Governor Ademola Adeleke to disburse the N2 billion Federal Government fuel subsidy removal palliative for the vulnerable in the state.

The state chairman of the APC, Sooko Tajudeen Lawal, who expressed his concern for the delay in the distribution of the Federal Government intervention fund to Osun, in a statement issued by the party’s Director of Media and Information, Chief Kola Olabisi, in Osogbo, the Osun State capital today, stated that it was worrisome that when other states had since completed their process of disbursement, Adeleke is confused on what to do with the money.

Lawal explained that the delay in the disbursement of the N2 billion by Adeleke as and when due is a sheer act of wickedness and confirmation of lack of empathy by the PDP administration for the needy in the state.

He cautioned Governor Adeleke and his co-travellers to tread with caution if the news going around in the state is true that the state government has fixed in the bank the said N2 billion in order to take an undue advantage of the accrued interest.

The state APC chairman told Adeleke to effect the disbursement of the fund to the needy without further delay as he doesn’t need to wait for the people to die of hunger until something positive in that regard is done.

Lawal stated further that if the Adeleke administration is callous, insensitive and wicked enough not to activate its own arrangement to cushion the effects of the fuel subsidy removal for the people of the state, it should not be a stumbling block to share the ones provided by the Federal Government led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He recalled that Governor Adeleke did not share the rice palliative until he was revved and pressured by the main opposition party in the state and that the exercise was done in a shoddy manner targeted to benefit only the members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.

A 24-year-old man, identified as Arinze Igbonakwu, has allegedly set ablaze his 18-year-old ex-girlfriend, her newborn baby, and three others over paternity fraud in Ogun State.

The unfortunate incident which occurred on Tuesday morning, September 5, 2023 in Okun Owa, Odogbolu LGA of the state, has left everyone in shock.

The story goes that Esther and Arinze were dating when she fell pregnant. Arinze took care of her and bore all the financial responsibility until she gave birth sometime last month. It was gathered that Arinze paid all the hospital bills.

However, a few days after she was discharged from the hospital , another guy, named Seun, surfaced and laid claim to the child. While, they were trying to resolve the issue, Esther packed her bags and moved in with Seun. She also confirmed Seun is the biological father of her child.

According to reports, the Police waded into the matter. Arinze demanded the sum of N300k as compensation but Seun said he will only pay N150k and that he was going to pay it in installment, N20k monthly. But apparently, Arinze wasn’t happy with the arrangement. He started threatening to kill the girl.

It was further stated that Esther went to sleep at her neighbor’s room with the baby on Tuesday because Seun wasn’t home and she was scared that Arinze might break in to harm her.

Unkown to them, Arinze broke into the neighbor’s apartment and poured about 10 litres of petrol on Esther, the newborn baby, the neighbor and her two children and set them ablaze.

They were rushed to Babcock hospital in Iisan and later transferred to Gbobi hospital in Lagos.

The newborn baby died on the spot, while Esther died this morning at the hospital. The neighbor and her two children are currently battling for their lives. They are said to be in critical conditions while the suspect is currently on the run.

The Students’ Union of Federal University of Oye-Ekiti FOUYE has embarked on protest to demand for Justice for the murdered 200 level Nursing student, Atanda Modupe Deborah.

The protest was led today by the Vice President of the Students’ Union, Jimoh Adesope.

In a statement she made available to newsmen as read in part:

“Earlier today, there was a peaceful protest as regards the unfortunate incident that happened yesterday. We reiterated our demands with major emphasis on :

1) Justice for our beloved one

2) Eradication of “streams”

3) Sufficient lighting systems on all roads and classrooms (on both campuses)

4) Better security network amongst others

After this, I led members of the union to the Ekiti State CID where the case is currently being handled. We met with the Commissioner of Police and other concerned officers and we were informed about the arrests made and the immediate commencement of investigation. He revealed that even the IG of the police had rung them on the matter with immerse pressure to unearth the perpetrators. I will like to affirm that we won’t rest until we get to the root of the matter, God willing.

Kingmakers Install Ghandi Afolabi Laoye as Soun of Ogbomoso, Traditional rites to follow

Prince Afolabi Ghandi Laoye has been officially installed as the new Soun of Ogbomosoland. The esteemed kingmakers of the community performed the installation ceremony at Abata, with the Areago High Chief Sobalaje Otolorin leading the proceedings.

Ghandi, a respected pastor and successful international businessman, arrived in Ogbomoso early in the morning via a private chopper. The aircraft landed at Ogbomoso grammar school before he made his way to the palace.

The installation ceremony took place this morning, marking the beginning of Prince Afolabi Ghandi Laoye’s reign as the Soun of Ogbomoso. Despite rumors of a court injunction, the kingmakers confirmed that they had not received any legal order preventing them from carrying out the installation.

With the official installation complete, traditional rites are set to commence soon. The community eagerly awaits the next steps in ensuring a smooth transition and a prosperous future under the leadership of their new Soun.

Oyo state Governor Seyi Makinde has announced plans to commence recruitment exercises for primary school teachers in order to address shortage of manpower across public primary schools in the state.

The Governor disclosed this at a stakeholders consultative meeting for 2024 budget held recently in Ibadan.

The occasion is an annual town hall meeting, where Governor Seyi Makinde convenes with pertinent stakeholders within the state and the primary objective is to collaborate on shaping the framework for the state’s annual budget.

The gathering which had in attendance different interest groups and stakeholders is aims at ensuring an all inclusive and people oriented budget ahead of the 2024 fiscal year.

Governor Makinde believes education remains a top priority and pledged to allocate more funds to the sector to address the issue of infrastructure and recruitment of additional staff, in order to ease the strain on public primary schools.

The state’s Commissioner for Budget disclosed that they successfully secured a 75 percent budgetary success this year, and assured of further enhancements in the coming years.

The Alado of Ado Awaye Land, Oba Ademola Olugbile Folakanmi, Alado-in- Council and the entire people of Ado Awaye Kingdom home and diaspora have congratulated Chief Adebayo Adekola Adelabu, FCA, FCIB, OFR, the Aare Asoludero of Ado Awaye Kingdom on his recent appointment as the Minister of Power, Federal Republic of Nigeria by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.

The message advised Chief Adelabu to behold the appointment as a clarion call to serve humanity and his father land and concluded that the Almighty God would grant him all the wherewithal required to steer the affairs of the nation’s power ministry.

An Oyo State High Court sitting in Ogbomoso has restrained Governor Seyi Makinde, the Attorney General and the Commissioner of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters either by themselves, agents or officials from presenting any instrument of office in any form of ceremony or issuance of certificate of installation to Pastor Afolabi Ghandi Oladunni Olaoye as the new Soun of Ogbomoso land, pending the hearing and final determination of the mandatory injunction already filed before the court.

Justice K.A Adedokun gave the order on Thursday while ruling on a motion of ex-parte filed by one of the contenders for the Soun of Ogbomoso stool, Prince Muhammed Kabir Olaoye.
