Oyo Govt Reads Riot Act Against Fraudsters, To Begin Accreditation Of Real Estate Developers

The Oyo State Government on Saturday, said it is set to regulate the activities of Real Estate Developers in the state, which is part of the second term is agenda for Sustainable Development.

The Commissioner for Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Mr. Williams Akin Funmilayo stated this in a meeting with Real Estate Developers held at Secretariat, Ibadan.

He stated that, the development is part of efforts to guard against bad eggs among the developers, adding that one of the components of the present administration, is to ensure the urbanization of the state.

He added that the Oyo State Government has been duly informed by several innocent victims, who have been duped by the bad eggs, among the developers.

Mr. Akin-Funmilayo stressed that, the Oyo State Government is taking the bull by the horn, by registering practitioners, and not letting dubious real estate developers take advantage of its people.

“They cannot be operating in the state without knowing them as a custodian of land in the state, which will equally protect their interest”.

He said, “it is essential for government to know who is who in real estate business in the state, we should work hand in hand to achieve same purpose with Govenor Seyi Makinde’s Agenda”.

“To protect the interest of innocent investors in the state, we have come up with modalities to accredit all real estate developers in the state, in other to have a robust relationship and curb excess of those that have polluted the industry”.

“To this end, they will know where we have designated for housing development not all land in the state are meant to be developed for housing estate, we will provide them with the government land information that is needed to be developed even outside Ibadan”.

“with this our people in the state cannot be duped and if they have a land to be develop into an housing estate they will apply to the state government and they will be profile properly. This will give our people in the diaspora an hope to come home and invest in the state”, he said.

In his remarks, one of the Real Estate Developers, and representative of Ark View Investment Limited, Peter Olutoyese applauded the laudable initiative.

He said, the advantage of free entry has been abused and the industry has been polluted, adding that the regulation will limit the pollution and it will also give credible developers more chance to thrive.

Nurse That Injected Mohbad Is A Quack Not Our Member – NNANIM

The National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), Lagos State Council has denounced membership of the arrested Nurse said to have injected later Hip Hop singer, Mohbad. The Association tagged the Nurse as a quack in the statement made available to newsmen as reproduced below:

NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA NURSES AND MIDWIVES (NANNM) RESPONDS TO MISREPORTING ON THE ARREST IN MOHBAD’S DEATH INVESTIGATION

Lagos, 22nd September 2023

The National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), Lagos State Council, expresses its deepest condolences to the family and associates of the late musician, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, during this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with them as we mourn his tragic passing.

We fully support the ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death and urge the relevant authorities to leave no stone unturned in the pursuit of justice for him.
However, we must stress the importance of professionalism in reporting and conducting this investigation. NANNM is closely monitoring the situation with keen interest.

Our preliminary investigations indicate that the individual reportedly taken into custody by the police for providing care to Mohbad is not a registered Nurse. We emphasize the critical need to verify the qualifications and professional status of individuals before labeling them as healthcare professionals.

It is regrettable that Nigeria’s healthcare system faces significant regulatory challenges, leading to the presence of unqualified individuals performing medical roles they are not trained for.

In Nigeria, to be recognized as a Nurse, one must complete a rigorous five-year Bachelor of Nursing Science program at a university, followed by an additional year of internship. Alternatively, one can undergo training at an accredited School/College of Nursing and become registered and licensed by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN).

We wish to clarify that the term ‘Auxiliary Nurse’ has no place within Nigeria’s healthcare system or its laws. An individual is either a qualified Nurse or an unqualified individual performing tasks beyond their competence.

Furthermore, we call on the investigating authorities and the media to exercise caution and accuracy in their reporting during this investigation. We will not tolerate any misrepresentation of Nurses and the Nursing profession. We demand that all media outlets that inaccurately reported the arrest of a Nurse take immediate corrective action to rectify their stories.

Once again, we extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and fans of Mohbad. We pray for the strength to endure this irreplaceable loss.

Mohbad: We Dispersed Youths Gathered At Lekki Tollgate At Night To Prevent Another #EndSARS – Police

The Lagos State Police Command on Friday gave its reasons for dispersing the youths who gathered at the Lekki Tollgate in Lagos State in light of the candlelight procession held in honour of the late Afrobeats artist Mohbad.

Following last Tuesday’s passing of the 27-year-old under controversial circumstances, there has been public outrage with calls for a “thorough” investigation.

The official candlelight procession in Mohbad’s honour was held at Muri Okunola Park in Victoria Island with federal authorities present.

However, several videos widely shared online showed several attendees scampering to safety as police officers shoot tear gas canisters at the unrelenting crowd.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement on Friday, explained that the Lagos State Police Command had an agreement with the organisers of the candlelight procession that the procession was to end by 8 pm at Muri Okunola.

“It was clearly stated for the avoidance of doubt that in the interest of all Lagosians and considering the heavy use of the Lekki-Epe Expressway, the Lekki Toll Gate would be a no-go area,” he said.

According to Hundeyin, procession-goers strayed from the agreed perimeters of the procession, shutting down movement on the Lekki-Epe highway.

“Therefore, in fulfilment of our mandate to protect life and property, maintain law and order and prevent crimes, we adopted the least harmful method of crowd dispersal, following the failure of verbal persuasion – the use of teargas,” the statement continued.

“Not a single live ammunition was fired! The police adopted crowd management best practices in engaging the unruly crowd. No life was lost neither was there any injury.”

The Police in its statement affirmed suspicious move by some youths who might turn the procession to a replica of the last #EndSARS movement which resulted to loss of lives and many properties destroyed.

Lagos generated N400 billion first half of 2023, says Economic Planning Commissioner

The Lagos State Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Ope George has revealed that the state government reported an Internally Generated Revenue of approximately N400 billion in the first half of the year.

George who made the disclosure at the 2024 Budget Consultative Forum, said he was confident that the IGR that will meet its end-of-the-year target.

The state government estimated an IGR of N924.805 billion to finance its N1.768 trillion 2023 budget.
George stressed the need to increase the 2024 target to provide more services. He highlighted the state’s strong credit rating and robust IGR, indicating the potential to attract investments and funding, including through public-private partnerships (PPPs).

He said, “We have a good credit rating and good IGR, which can help us attract the right set of investment and funding. So, we have to be very creative with our funding by ensuring it’s a mix of IGR and all the funding mechanisms. We’re looking at PPPs and being able to get nice concessions at the right rates.

“So I think we’re fortunate because we are going in the right direction and, hopefully, we can continue to build on that to attract the right investments and funding.”

DSS Arrests Ogun Lawmaker, Five Others Over Cult Killings

Operatives of the Department of State Security (DSS) have arrested a serving member of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Damilare Mohammed Bello, over alleged involvement in rival secret cult clashes in Sagamu town.

Nigerian Latest News reports that Bello is the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member representing Sagamu State Constituency 1 in the Ogun State House of Assembly.

He was arrested alongside five other suspected cultists, including “Debbo Animashaun, Bamidele Saheed, Ismaila Onitire, Adewale Otesanya and Tobi Owoade,” during a sting operation after a tip-off in the early hours of Thursday, within the residence of the lawmaker.

A statement issued by Lekan Adeniran, the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to Governor Dapo Abiodun, said the DSS had since Wednesday tracked the six suspected cultists to the official residence of the lawmaker, where he was allegedly providing shelter to the cultists.

Adeniran, in the statement, disclosed that the suspects are presently undergoing interrogation in DSS custody, adding that dangerous weapons, including guns, were recovered from them.

Earlier in February, Bello was arrested by the DSS for allegedly masterminding the violent protest that rocked Sagamu where irate youths vandalised about 10 banks and other public infrastructure over the naira redesign policy by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Palliative Distribution: Okada Rider Hit By Amotekun Vehicle, Dies In Iseyin

ODUDUWA NEWS has gathered that an Okada rider was hit by Amotekun vehicle and died immediately yesterday during the distribution of palliatives in Iseyin Local Government.

It was learnt that the man who hailed feom Okeho identified as Najeemu was ridding his okada in iseyin, and was struggling to get his own palliative before he was hit on head by Amotekun officers when they were distributing palliatives.

An eyewitness who spoke under the condition of anonymity said, it was a shocking moment when the man was hit by the vehicle of the security men as he was struggling for palliative in a crowd.

“The way the palliatives were distributed was not encouraging as it exposed community residents to risk of being stampeded or hit by the vehicles.

“All of a sudden, we saw a lifeless body and it was later discovered he was hit by the vehicle of the security men.

“This is a sad news and we want a justice on this matter with immidiate effect from the government”.

It was learnt that the man has since been buried according to Islamic rite.

Dapo Abiodun Directs Payment Of N1Billion Gratuity To Ogun Pensioners

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has directed the Bureau of State Pensions, to commence immediate payment of gratuity to pensioners in the State.

The N1b gratuity was released to ease and bring succour to the senior citizens, who have served the State and the Local Government diligently.

This was made known by the Permanent Secretary in the Bureau, Mr. Adesoji Adewuyi during an interview with journalists in his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

He stated that the gratuity would cater for pensioners who were scheduled for September and part of October 2014, adding that it would also take care of part payments of Basic, Rent, and Transports (BRT) allowances for January and February 2013 of the pensioners.

Mr. Adewuyi stated that some pensioners with urgent medical needs were also attended to from the gratuity released, and pleaded with those who were yet to receive theirs to be patient with the present administration, assuring that all pensioners would be paid accordingly.

The Permanent Secretary appreciated Prince Abiodun for the payment of a cash palliative of N10,000 for pensioners, to enable them to cope with the economic situation occasioned by the removal of the fuel subsidy for the period of three months with effect from July 2023.

Nurse Who Administered Injection To Mohbad Arrested, Interrogated As People Await Autopsy Report

ODUDUWA NEWS has gathered that the Nurse who administered injection to Ilerioluwa Mohbad has been finally arrested and currently being interrogated by the Nigeria Police Force.

Recall, Ilerioluwa popularly known as Mohbad died mysteriously last week and there have been series of controversies trailing his death.

Many Nigerians who believe the ex-signee of Naira Marley lost his life due to the threats and intimidations from the record label have been asking questions on the alleged role played by the said Nurse and those who took him to the hospital.

Meanwhile, the Police has revealed that the investigation is ongoing to unravel the mystery surrounding his death as his body has been exhumed for autopsy report.

“I stand by my action,” Obasanjo says, as he disowns his ‘wife’ who apologised to Oyo monarchs

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has denied Madam Taiwo Martins, who apologised on his behalf for commanding some monarchs in Oyo State to stand up for Governor Seyi Makinde.

Taiwo in a report titled, “Oyo Kings: A plea for forgiveness”, begged “for permanent and eternal forgiveness and pardon from all Yoruba sons and daughters worldwide, fathers and mothers, youths, teenagers and children, Christians, Muslims, traditional worshippers, all leaders in Yoruba land and the Council of Kings in Yoruba land.”

However, reacting to the apology, Obasanjo disowned the woman and insisted that he stands by his comments.

In a statement by his media aide, Kehinde Akinyemi, on Monday, September 18, Obasanjo said Taiwo is neither his wife nor a member of Obasanjo’s family but rather an impostor despite having two children with him.

“The attention of former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has been drawn to a statement purported to be issued by a wife of the President with the photograph of one Ms. Taiwo Martins as the author of the statement.

For the records, Ms. Martins has two children, Jonwo and Bunmi, for Chief Obasanjo but to say emphatically that she is not his wife nor a member of the Obasanjo family.

Her posturing as Chief Obasanjo’s wife is false and that of an impostor. Nobody makes statements on behalf of the Obasanjo family except Chief Obasanjo or people delegated by him to do so.

It must be noted that the state of health of Ms. Martins is known to all and sundry and whatever she says or does has nothing to do with Chief Obasanjo as an individual or the Obasanjo family as a whole.

However, the former President has affirmed that he stood firmly, unapologetically and uncompromisingly on the position that the governor of a state holds the highest office in the state.

By that position, the respect, protocol and dignity that must be given to the office by virtue of the constitution must not be denied. To do otherwise is to deride the office and the constitution,” the statement reads.

‘E Dide, E Joko’: Yoruba Obas insist Obasanjo must apologise publicly

Royal fathers in Yoruba land under the auspices of Yoruba Obas Forum (YOF), have insisted on a public apology from former President Olusegun Obasanjo for allegedly denigrating traditional rulers at an event in Iseyin, Oyo State, last Friday.

At the event, the ex-President had berated the monarchs for refusing to stand up to welcome the state Governor, Seyi Makinde, saying the action of the royal fathers was a disrespect for the office of the governor whom he said was above the monarchs.

In the heat of condemnation that has trailed the comments and the subsequent fallout, the YOF comprising of royal fathers from Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo, Ekiti, Kwara and Kogi States, in a statement on Tuesday, insists that Obasanjo must apologise publicly for insulting the Oyo monarchs.

In a statement jointly issued on Tuesday in Osogbo, Osun State, by its President, Oba Samuel Adeoye, who is the Molokun of Atijere in Ondo State, and the General Secretary, Oba Abdulrasaq Abioye, the Olukotun of Ikotun-Ile in Kwara State, the royal fathers said Obasanjo’s outburst was an “affront and an intentional desecration of revered traditional stools in Yorubaland.”

“On behalf of the entire Yoruba Obas, we are using this medium to call upon the former President of Nigeria (Obasanjo) to immediately apologise to monarchs from Oke-Ogun zone for his undeserved remarks over his claim that they failed to stand up when the governor (Makinde) and himself climbed the podium at the inauguration of LAUTECH’s College of Agricultural Science and Renewable Natural Resources, Iseyin,” the statement reads.

“The Forum also noted that even if the Obas at the occasion acted in breach of The Act of Precedence of 1999, Obasanjo should have noted it in his speech rather than scolding them like pupils or military recruits.

“We think respect should be earned, not demanded. An injury to one is an injury to all. Yoruba traditional institution is not like a military setup that anyone can command at will.

“We condemn this act by Obasanjo and we call for his public apology to all the disgraced Obas and the entire Yoruba people by extension without further delay,” the Obas said.
