Osun NUJ Chairman Highlights Media Practice Challenges as ACJ-OAU Inducts New Members

The Chairman of Osun State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ, Mr. Wasiu Ajadosu has Highlighted the challenges that undermine media practice in Nigeria.

Mr. Wasiu, who was represented by the secretary of the Union, Mr. Bukola Elufadejin while addressing the new inductees on Saturday, July 31 2021, described Ownership Control, Poor Remuneration for practitioners, Inconsistent and unfriendly policies, lack of funding to sustain the media houses, Professional Hazard has the challenges.

He furthered that the media has been instrumental in the struggle for democracy in Nigeria.

In his reaction, Adejumo Kabir, multiple award winning Investigative Journalist charged the student journalists to always uphold the ethics of the profession. He emphasized that the objective of a journalist is the public good and as such, loyalty must be to the public.

Also speaking at the program, Mr. Ismael Taiwo, publisher, Oduduanews, admonished Student Journalists to always ensure their reports have something that can substantiate them.

“You have discovered your innate ability, you have joined the Association of Campus Journalists, it is now left for you to nurture it.” He reiterated.

In his remarks, the president of ACJ-OAU, Titilola Babatunde Oladayo, tasked the inductees to show commitment as they are the next set to dominate the mainstream.

Makinde inspects on-going Akobo flyover, Lekan Salami Stadium, Ajia-Airport-Ife Expressway projects

…says govt ‘ll continue to improve sport facilities to empower youths, develop Oyo economy

Oyo State governor, ’Seyi Makinde, on Friday, inspected on-going infrastructure projects in Ibadan, including the Akobo-General Gas Flyover, the 21-kilometer Ajia-Airport-New Ife Expressway road, with spur to Amuloko and the Lekan Salami Sport Complex remodeling project.

The governor expressed satisfaction with the quality of the works being done by the contractors, saying that he was excited with the pace of work done so far.
He added that the scope of the projects has been well covered, while the schedule is being followed.

Speaking with newsmen at the Lekan Salami Sport Complex, Adamasingba, shortly after inspecting the projects, the governor said that his administration will continue to improve sport facilities in the state to empower youths and develop the economy.

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, indicated that the Lekan Salami Sport Complex has been upgraded to FIFA standard, with four world class Changing Rooms, capacity for 25 players and Wet Areas with capacity for 11 players at a time.

Others were the Doping Control Room, Clinic, Referee’s Room, Match Officials Room and a Youth Centre/Ball Boys Rooms.
The statement added that the stadium has also, in line with FIFA requirement, been equipped with state-of-the-art Studio, including CCTV facilities that can monitor five kilometre radius of the stadium and also the Ibadan Airport, as well as world class gadgets that will enable the linking of the stadium to a minimum of four stadia.

The statement also noted a new training pitch, a multipurpose hall for Basketball, Volleyball and Handball, a new Squash Hall and a 50 by 30 Metres Multipurpose Hall completed with a centre court, for gymnasium, boxing, judo, kickboxing will also be delivered at the facility.
In his speech, Governor Makinde said: “Well, I will say so far, so good, the scope is well covered and we have made quite some progress. Also, the schedule is being followed.
“I will say I am excited and I look forward to the official opening, which has now been pushed to the 1st of September. I also look forward to seeing our darling team, Shooting Stars, beat the foreign Team.

“When I was campaigning, people asked me questions about job opportunities for our youths and I said discovering sporting talents is one way of engaging our youths. And this is one of such projects that can enable us to achieve that.
“Also, we want to be on the map internationally by hosting international sporting events, not just football. We have seen the centre courts for the Tennis, Swimming Pool project and the facilities for volleyball, boxing, kick-boxing and the rest.”

The governor promised to utilise sports to develop the economy of the state, saying: “So, we want to utilise sports to also develop our economy. We want to keep coming here every week by God’s grace to watch Shooting Stars play in the National Premiership League and to also play competitions in Africa.
“We also want Shooting Stars to go on and play the World Club Cup competition, which I know is not beyond us.

“We have to bring development to our people, to our city and our state. That was why we were elected in the first place.
“Some of those projects should be nearing completion right now. We wanted to check and be sure that, indeed, what we have on ground matches the report I have been getting. And I can tell you that I am quite impressed with the contractor.”

LAUTECH Elevates 31 As Professors As 52 Lecturers Become Readers


The duo of Ganiy Diekola Ajenikoko of Electrical Engineering Department and Kehinde Ogunleye of Agricultural Extension Department, alongside 29 others have been recommended for promotion as professors by the Appointments and Promotions Committee for the Academic Staff of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso.


Also recommended for promotion as Readers were 52 other lecturers of the institution.
A statement issued at the end of the Committee’s meeting, held during the week and signed by the Registrar of the University who doubles as the Secretary to the Governing Council, Dr. Kayode Ogunleye, read that their promotion followed due process and thorough screening.

A breakdown of the figure shows that Faculty of Agricultural Sciences has 12 new professors while Faculty of Engineering and Technology has eight.

Others are Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences with six, faculties of Pure and Applied Sciences and Environmental Sciences have two professors each, while the Faculty of Clinical Sciences, has one.

Faculty of Engineering and Technology is leading in the production of Readers with 24, Agricultural Sciences, 11; Basic Medicals, nine; and Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences, five.

Others are two and one readers from Clinical Sciences and Environmental Sciences respectively.

BREAKING: Again, FG extends NIN-SIM verification deadline to October 31

The Federal Government has further extended the deadline for NIN-SIM data verification to October 31, 2021.

The Director, Public Affairs Nigerian Communications Commission, Ikechukwu Adinde; and the Head, Corporate Communications, Nigeria Identity Management Commission, Kayode Adegoke, made this known in a joint statement on Monday, titled ‘FG Extends NIN-SIM verification deadline to 31st October, 2021′.

Before now, FG had approved the extension of the deadline for NIN-SIM data verification to July 26, 2021.

The statement noted that the registration focus is now expected to shift to remote and hard-to-reach areas, schools and health centres.

The statement read, “The Federal Government has approved the extension of the deadline for NIN-SIM data verification to October 31, 2021.

“The decision to extend the deadline was made following a request by stakeholders to accommodate registration in hard-to-reach remote areas, foreigners and diplomatic missions, diaspora and address low enrolments in schools and hospitals, as evidenced by enrolment statistics.

“It also followed a review of the progress of the exercise which indicated significant progress hence the need to consolidate the gains of the enrolment and NIN-SIM verification process across the country.

“As of July 24th, 2021, there are over 5,500 enrolment systems within and outside the country and this would significantly ease the NIN enrolment process and subsequent linkage of NIN to SIM. The administration of His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, has approved the extension as part of efforts to make it easier for its citizens within and outside the country, and legal residents to obtain the NIN and it is important to take advantage of the extension.

“The NIN-SIM linkage also makes it easier for the security agencies to carry out their statutory duties and the relevant parastatals under the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy are supporting them as required.

“There are now a total of 59.8 million unique NIN enrolments, with an average of three to four SIMs per NIN. With the great number of enrolment centres within and outside the country, and many more coming up, every citizen, legal resident, and Nigerian citizens living in the diaspora should be able to obtain their NINs.”

The statement quoted the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, as commending the Kano State Government and other States that have made NINs a key requirement for school enrolments and access to other important services.

It added, “The Federal Government is also excited at the news that the use of NIN in the process of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board exam significantly reduced the challenge of exam malpractice.

“The Minister, on behalf of the Federal Government, appreciates Nigerians for their patience and compliance with the Federal Government’s directive on the NIN-SIM registration exercise”

Ibadan Prime Youths Forum (IPYF) appreciate CCII as President-General Appoints Member As Executive Assistant.

The President General of Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes, the next in hierarchy to Olubadan in Council and highest Indigenous socio-cultural group in Ibadan land, Chief Oluyemisi Adeaga has appointed a member of the youth annex of CCII – Ibadan Prime Youths Forum, Aare Oyeniyi Oyekunle as his Executive Assistant.

The leadership and members of Ibadan Prime Youths Forum (IPYF) appreciates the President General for appointing one of us for this sensitive position, and we can’t but show our sense of appreciation for this kind gesture.

At IPYF, we see this appointment as a timely one, and a well deserved one for Aare Oyeniyi, we have no doubt in his capacity and believe that he will deliver beyond our expectation. This is one of the fulfilment of the promise made by the new administration of CCII to encourage youth participation in CCII. This ample opportunity will bring the youths of Ibadan closer to the leadership of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII).

We also use this medium to Congratulate Aare Oyeniyi Oyekunle on this new journey, and pray for God’s wisdom in the discharge of his duty.

Aare Oyeniyi Oyekunle been an Agribusiness and Development Communication expert, he is a result driven individual with valuable experience in both corporate and government establishments. He had his first degree at the University of Ilorin, where he was the President of the Federation of Ibadan Students Union (FIBSU, UNILORIN), and later obtained Masters degree in Agriculture and Development Communication from the University of Ibadan.

Oyeniyi has worked as an Assistant on Communication and Policy Research at the Office of the Special Adviser to Oyo State Governor on Agriculture, and also as a Research Intern in International Development at the Data Research Institute, obtained a certification in Diplomacy from Open University, UK, among others. Oyeniyi Oyekunle is also a freelance writer and business intelligence analyst.

EID-EL KABIR: IPYF FELICITATE MUSLIMS, URGES YOUTHS TO LIVE PEACEFULLY AND LOVE ONE ANOTHER

Ibadan Prime Youth Forum (IPYF) Felicitate with Muslims (especially Muslim youths of Ibadanland) on this year Eid-Ei Kabir festival, and admonish them to emulate the teachings of Prophet Ibrahim who symbolizes love and patriotism.

Today, as we celebrate with our Muslim friends and Ibadan Youth, it’s important we remind us of the teachings that come with this period, and that’s total Submission to the will of Almighty Allah, and also living together in peace, love and looking after each other. On this note, we want to implore Ibadan Youths, Ibadan Indigenes and Muslims in the State to continue to extend helping hands to people beyond the festive period as this is the only way we can build a state free from insecurity or external threat.

‘Let the strong help the weak, that both life will be preserve’. This is one of our guiding principles at IPYF. This mantra emphasizes the importance of helping the less privileged or disadvantaged people by the successful ones for overall human development.

We can only build a better society when people are happy while their basic needs at met, the rich youths should not see the poor one’s as a ‘lazy’ people. In our different capacities, let’s do well by assisting the less privilege towards their personal development and of the overall development of Ibadanland as demonstrated by Prophet Muhammad (SAW) during his lifetime.

Yoruba Nation Agitator Sunday Igboho Arrested in Cotonou

Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo also known as Sunday Igboho, has been arrested in Cotonou, Benin Republic.

He was arrested at an airport in Cotonou on Monday night, a top source familiar with the matter told our correspondent.

Igboho was arrested by the security forces in Benin Republic about three weeks after the Department of State Services declared him wanted for allegedly stockpiling arms, an allegation he has since denied.

According to  The PUNCH, Igboho will be repatriated to Nigeria on Tuesday (today) from Benin Republic, one of Nigeria’s neighbouring countries in the West African sub region.

“He was arrested in Cotonou while he tried to travel out on Monday night. His destination was Germany. The security forces in Benin Republic should repatriate him to Nigeria on Tuesday,” the source said.

Bolaji Agoro’s Good Work Will Continue To Speak- Oorelope LG Chairman Pays Tribute

The Chairman of Oorelope Hon. Raheem Akeem on Sunday describes his late uncle as a role model who lived a purposeful life for the betterment of others. In a statement made available to OduduwaNews on Sunday reads as follows:


“It was sad to hear the news of the death of my Uncle, Barr. Bolaji Agoro of Agoro Compound, Modeke, Igboho. Saturday, 17th July, 2021 and in fact, this period, is a black moment for all of us from the compound, who grew up to know the deceased in person.


The devastating news came to me as a shock, and his death as left a vacuum that will be difficult to fill by anyone. Barr. Bolaji Agoro was an amiable person, an Omoluabi who never missed an opportunity to make an impact on others. He lived a life of purpose and service of his family, his immediate Community and humanity.
He is no longer with us in body and soul, but his good work, especially to his family, his friends, his Community members and all those who came across him, will continue to speak for him, and his memory will remain in our hearts for ever.


On behalf of myself and the good people of Oorelope Local Government, I identify with the family of the deceased and pray that the Almighty Allah will give the family the fortitude to bear the loss, and grant Barr. Bolaji Aljana Firdaous.”

IBADAN PRIME YOUTHS CELEBRATE CHIEF YEMI SOLADOYE, DESCRIBE HIM AS AN EXCELLENT ACHIEVER

Adopting Lilly Michael’s words “There are not words big enough. There is not a hug strong enough. There is not a smile wide enough. All we can offer is thank you, Sir. You are our hero.
You are in our thoughts. You are in our prayers. For all you’ve done, thank you, Sir.”

We see it as a point of duty to join our voice with other voices in celebrating our leader, a father, mentor, one who we can refer to as the father of Modern CCII, Chief Yemi Soladoye, a two term President-General of Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes, the highest Indigenous & socio-cultural group in Ibadan comprising of over 260 clubs.

It’s important we state this for public consumption that Chief Yemi Soladoye has written his name in the good side of history, and history will be kind to him, while in office, he built on the work of his predecessors and projected the image of Ibadan Land in international space.

Also, at IPYF, we appreciate the immediate past PG for giving the youths of Ibadan the opportunity to have a voice, by recognizing and approving the establishment of the youth wing of CCII, this is one of the many things that will live after you, as the youth forum will consolidate on your good work for the betterment of Ibadan land.

In the remark of the Coordinator of Ibadan Prime Youths Forum (IPYF), Dr. Oluwatunmise Adeagbo he said “Chief Yemi Soladoye is an achiever, a visionary leader, and a master planner, this is evident in the numerous successes of his administration, it should be on record that it was the Chief Yemi Soladoye that initiated the youth wing of CCII and subsequently sought the approval of CCII congress on the 5th of February 2021 which established the conception of the umbrella body of all youths of Ibadanland – Ibadan Prime Youths Forum, and he placed it directly under CCII as its youth wing. This is to show his love and Interest towards youth Inclusiveness in the affairs of Ibadan.”

Ibadan Prime Youths Forum (IPYF) employ this opportunity to appreciate the IPPG for the contribution of his administration in Education as many students received Scholarship and Education grants under his leadership, also, the increase of CCII registered groups from 198 to 260 under his watch is a monumental achievement.

Lastly, Chief Yemi Soladoye is a great asset to Ibadan land and nation as a whole, we do hope Federal and State governments can tap from his pool of experience and expertise for betterment of Ibadan Land and Nigeria as a whole.
