The political landscape in Ogun State witnessed a significant shift as Governor Dapo Abiodun officially announced Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as the consensus governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 election.
The announcement was made during a high-level stakeholders’ meeting of the party held on Monday, where key leaders and stakeholders reportedly aligned on the need for unity and continuity ahead of the next electoral cycle. Governor Abiodun emphasized the importance of a seamless transition, noting that the party had reached a strategic decision on its preferred flagbearer.

Senator Adeola, who currently represents Ogun West Senatorial District at the National Assembly, is widely regarded as a strong political figure with grassroots support across the state. His emergence as the APC consensus candidate is seen by many analysts as a move to consolidate the party’s dominance and ensure stability after the end of Abiodun’s second term in office.
The development comes amid growing interest in the Ogun 2027 governorship race, with several aspirants within the APC already declaring intentions to contest. Despite earlier claims by some party figures that no consensus candidate had been agreed upon, the governor’s pronouncement appears to have set a new direction for the ruling party’s succession plan.
Political observers note that the endorsement of Adeola may reshape the dynamics of the race, particularly within the APC, where multiple aspirants had been jostling for the ticket. As the countdown to 2027 intensifies, attention is now focused on how other contenders and stakeholders will respond to the party’s consensus arrangement.
