Olumide Akpata has been declared the President elect of The Nigerian Bar Association NBA in its recent election held on Wednesday, July 29th of 2020. The result of the election goes thus: Julius Oladele SAN had 881 votes, Babatunde Ajibade 1049, Olumide Akpata 2319. Olumide Akpata having got the highest votes was declared the winner of the election.

Resumption of schools is ill-advised – NMA
It is no longer new that the South West Governors and the Federal Government recently had a virtual meeting where they concluded that students who are in exit classes should be allowed to resume on August 4 in order to allow them write their final examinations particularly WAEC which is slated to commence on August 17.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Medical Association has berated the level of preparedness of the Federal Government for ordering the schools to reopen for studies amid the surge in COVID-19 cases.
The NMA says the recent study has shown that schools’ closure had been linked to reduced COVID-19 infections and associated deaths in hard hit countries.
The NMA expressed worries over the recent decision of Federal Government to reopen the schools for the exit classes on August 4.
The NMA President, Prof. Innocent Ujah, said, “What is the level of compliance of the citizens in terms of regular hand-washing and other safety protocols?
“At the moment, many of the schools don’t even have water. Obviously, it becomes very difficult to say that schools should reopen because you have to wash your hands regularly.
“Again, I don’t know how the teachers would be teaching with face masks and all the pupils will wear face masks.
“If you are not used to face masks, you may not breathe well, particularly if the one you have is not standard,” Ujah said.

No fewer than 30 cocoa farmers on Wednesday benefited from the loan facilities provided by the Government of the State of Osun as part of fulfillment of its campaign promises to support farmers and promote agriculture in the State.
The loan, according to the government, was aimed at boosting cocoa production and increase the farmers’ yields for this year’s growing and harvesting season.
Addressing journalists shortly after the distribution of the soft loan in Osogbo, the General Manager, Osun Micro-Credit Agency, Mr. Dayo Babaranti, said similar gesture had recently been extended to cassava and tomatoes farmers in the State.
He said the agency was determined to support the economy of the State as it is ready to revive micro, small and medium scale enterprises.
“We are here this morning to distribute N5millon loan to 30 individual cocoa farmers in the four major cocoa growing councils in the State, namely Ilesa-West, Ilesa-East, Atakunmosa-West and Atakumosa-East respectively.
“This support is given to farmers for them to purchase chemicals and other things they need to spray and prevent cocoa from infections that usually to reduce their productions ahead of this year’s growing season.
“So, with this little support, our farmers can have access to some of the farm inputs to support their activities and increase their production,” he said.
Babaranti admonished the beneficiaries not to see the fund as free money but a support to advance their productions.
He further implored the beneficiaries to use the fund judiciously and apply it on what it was meant for.
“I urge the beneficiaries not to divert the funds but apply it on what it was meant for which is to support their farming activities,” he said.
Some of the beneficiaries who addressed the media after they received their cheques, lauded the state government for promoting agriculture sector in the state.
The Chairman, Agbewumi Cocoa Group, Mr. Ajibade Moshood, commended the commitment of the state government to revamp agriculture.
Moshood, who assured of the timely repayment of the loan, said, “We shall use the fund for the purpose it was meant for.”

The newly reviewed budget is to accommodate the latest financial reality of the nation and the State courtesy of the COVID-19 pandemic which has led to drastic drop in oil price, national revenue and subsequently reduction in federal allocation to States and revenue generation in Oyo State.
Ondo Election: Akeredolu Names Lucky Ayedatiwa Running Mate
Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, the governor of Ondo State has just announced Lucky Ayedatiwa, a former representative of the state on the Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) as his running mate for the October 10 election.
Oduduwa News confirmed that Mr Ayedatiwa’s name was sent to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Tuesday.
He is a native of Obe-Nla, an oil-bearing community in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State.
Confirming the development, Mr Akeredolu uploaded a graphic showing his name and Mr Ayedatiwa on Twitter on Wednesday.

The conflict of interest between the governments of Osun State and Oyo State on the administration of Ladoke Akintola University, Ogbomosho might be finally laid to rest with the decision of Oyo State Government to negotiate the sole ownership of the school.
Speaking on the desire of Oyo State to own Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, the Governor said Oyo is currently negotiating with Osun State. “The way LAUTECH has been running over the years is that from January to June, Oyo State would take up the responsibility of paying the subventions to the institution while Osun would pay from July to December. ” Since we expressed the desire to own the school, we don’t want any situation where the challenges that the school experienced in the past would continue and we have agreed that we would continue to pay subventions to the school.
Meanwhile, we have released their subvention for the month of July on the 25th of July. “This is a demonstration of our commitment to see that LAUTECH survives and I am very optimistic that at the end we will achieve the objective of sole ownership of LAUTECH very soon.”
