Gov. Oyetola tasks Osun residents, citizens on justice, equity

… says peace, security achievable only in just society

The Governor, State of Osun, Adegboyega Oyetola, on Sunday tasked citizens and residents on the need to deal justly with one another as this would help Osun sustain its status as the most peaceful State in Nigeria.

The Governor maintained that peace and security are hundred percent achievable in a society where people deal justly and with fear of God among one another.

Oyetola, who gave this admonition in an address declaring open a one-day seminar for members of the Sharia Panel held at the Muslim Secretariat in Osogbo, lauded the leaders of the Muslim community for cooperating with his Administration and for supporting its efforts at sustaining the most peaceful status of the State.

The Governor, who was represented by his Deputy Chief of Staff, Prince Abdullahi Binuyo, also lauded the leadership of the Muslim community in the State for organising the seminar which he described as important as it would serve as a reminder on the need for all, particularly the participants, to adjudicate with fear of Allah.

He said the Administration has put measures in place to ensure efficient justice system in the State just as he urged members of the Sharia Panel to join the government in the promotion of justice, fairplay and equal opportunity for all the people in the State.

“As believing Muslims, it is obligatory for us to actively uphold and protect values such as justice and equity. The Holy Quran (16:90) says: ‘God commands justice and fair dealing…’. In this verse, Allah directly commands Muslims to be just and deal fairly. As believers, we must consistently be aware that these values are integral parts of our faith.

“In the same vein, Quran (4:58) says, ‘Indeed, Allah commands you to render trusts to whom they are due and when you judge between people to judge with justice. Excellent is that which Allah instructs you. Indeed, Allah is ever Hearing and Seeing.’ By this, Allah (SWT) reminds us that even if it is against our own parents, we must stand firm in establishing and believing in justice.

“In a society where there is justice, there is bound to be peace. I am happy to see this level of committed and responsible leadership we enjoy within the Muslim Community in the State of Osun.

“The State boasts of highly responsible Muslim leaders who are not only promoting the image of Islam as a religion of peace but also cooperating with the government and supportive of our administration’s efforts at maintaining the status of Osun as the most peaceful State in the country,” Oyetola added.

In his remarks, the President of the Osun Muslim Community, Alhaji Mustapha Olawuyi, thanked Governor Oyetola for creating an enabling environment for peaceful coexistence among different religious groups which has continued to engender peace and tranquility in the State of Osun.

PERSONALITY INTERVIEW: YOUTH IN AGRIC BUSINESS

OduduwaNews: Can we meet you sir.

Onifade Dolapo: I’m Dolapo Onifade Shakirullah by name, I’m a farmer, copywriter and business consultant.
I’m a student of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.

OduduwaNews: The popular phrase in town since the last recession is “Youth in Agriculture” What’s Youth in Agric, from your own perspective?

Onifade Dolapo: Youth in Agric, to me, means a lot of things.
This approach is telling us that we need more youth in Agriculture sector, that youth must think creativity and innovation to solve a lot of problem in agriculture sector.
Youth are the only ones, who can think creatively and bring more changes to how people do think about agriculture.
Youth in Agriculture, will be able to solve more unemployment in our country.
There are lots of aspects in Agriculture, that really need more youth to tap into.
Our fathers, don’t really have strength to tap into it.

OduduwaNews: “Youth Agric, will it be able to solve more unemployment in our country” Has there been any positive progress?

Is there any motivating factor to encourage more youth participation?

Onifade Dolapo: Yes, there is positive progress from individual.
To be candid, more youth are now going into agriculture everyday, they have seen the prosperity, that we can’t do without it.
They have seen it that, if Agriculture sector goes wrong, every other secrets will not be able to work well.
But, in other for it to be more positive progress, we need our government to train and finance, those youth who are really ready to be active in Agriculture sector.
Onifade Dolapo: “Is there any motivating factor to encourage more youth participation”
If we really want to motivate and encourage more youth in agriculture, we have to show them, how they can make money in Agriculture.
Agriculture is a business, we have to show them, how to do the business successful.
Nothing really motivates more in business, than making good money from it.

OduduwaNews: This leads us to government contribution
Aside the media noise from our government, are they making concerted effort to make Agric business thrive?

Onifade Dolapo

Onifade Dolapo: They are trying in their own way, but, this thing is not getting to the real farmers.
If you’re not into politics, you might not get anything from government to help you succeed in your agriculture business.
Apart from general polices, like closing our boarders, reducing some tariffs on Agricultural equipment and the likes, that’s only contribution, that’s getting to everyone of us.
But, distribution of agricultural equipment, finance etc, they are merging politics with it.

OduduwaNews: Wow. What has been your own personal experience getting support, Grant and Agric aids?

Onifade Dolapo: To be sincere, I haven’t gotten any personal support, grant and Agric aids from government.
I have applied for all those things before, I even spent money to get forms and the likes, at the end, they use politics to share those benefits.
I have been using my own personal money to finance my farm projects.

OduduwaNews: What advice do you have for those youths who are indecisive in joining the Agric business?

Onifade Dolapo: They should seek for knowledge first, before they invest in any aspect of agriculture, they should see it as a business and have passion for it.

OduduwaNews: Any message for the Nigerian government on the Insecurity of farmers?

Onifade Dolapo: My message for them is that, they should provide means for those Fulani to be rearing their cows, they should stop open grazing and there should be enforcement of existing laws to punish all recalcitrant Fulanis, that usually use cows to eat farmers crops.

OduduwaNews: Is there any other thing you want us to know?

Onifade Dolapo: The only thing, I still want you to know is that, any youth that’s going into farming, he should not rely on rain for his crops, climate has changed, so many farmers lost millions of naira last year due to climate change.
They should think of, irrigation system for their crops.

OduduwaNews: Thank you for your time sir.

Olujimi-led factional PDP drags Fayose’s PDP camp to Court over irregularities at ward congresses

The Ekiti State Peoples Democratic Party faction loyal to Senator Biodun Olujimi on Saturday resolved to approach the Supreme Court over the ward congresses of the party which held in March 2020.

The faction, rising from a meeting in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, stated that “after extensive deliberation, considering the pros and cons, the appellate court judgment on the matter should be appealed at the Supreme Court, where it is believed that justice will be manifestly done.”

In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting and signed by the state factional Publicity Secretary, Sanya Adesua, the party praised its members “for their steadfastness and belief in the eventual triumph of justice over injustice and truth over falsehood”.

The communiqué was titled, ‘The resolutions of the Ekiti State PDP under the chairmanship of Hon Kehinde Odebunmi.”

The Appeal Court had on Wednesday upheld the lower court’s judgment that the matter was an internal affair of the party and by implication, approved the congresses conducted by the pro-Ayodele Fayose faction of the party.

The pro-Olujimi group is seeking an order of the court restraining the PDP National Working Committee from announcing, publishing, and recognising any list as a result of election of the ward executives and three ad-hoc delegates held on March 7, 2020.

They had also sought an order of the court restraining the party from acting on, or making use of the names of winners of the congresses for the purpose of the local government, state and zonal congresses.

The group, at the Saturday meeting, resolved that “the State Working Committee under the leadership of Hon Kehinde Odebunmi should be sustained and encouraged to go ahead with the running of the party in Ekiti.”

“All governorship aspirants are encouraged to go ahead with their consultation and mobilisation of the generality of Ekiti people, who are anxiously waiting for a PDP governor in 2022. However, such sensitisation must be devoid of rancour,” the communique stated.

But the chairman of the Ekiti State PDP loyal to Fayose, Bisi Kolawole, said although the pro-Olujimi group had the right to appeal, “the peace process is on and nothing will disrupt it. We are confident the peace process will yield fruit”.

Task Force arrests 40 for violating environmental laws in Oyo

The environmental task force operatives in oyo state had apprehended about 40 persons, 75 motorbikes and 50 vehicles for failing to comply with monthly sanitation directive of the state government.

There had been widespread announcement about the exercise in order to enhance maximum compliance

The enforcement team was led by the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Dr. Abdulateef Idowu Oyeleke who led the enforcement team alongside the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Bashir Olanrewaju, Chairman Environmental Task Force, ACP Francis Ojomo, Special Assistant to the Governor on Environment, Engr. Ademola Aderinto, Director of Environmental Health Services, Security operatives, among others during the monthly sanitation exercise along Bodija Secretariat road in Ibadan.

The Commissioner said it is worrisome, the extent at which people go about their businesses during sanitation exercise despite the campaign against the scourge of filthy environment and the adoption of ‘clean and green initiative’ to rid the State of epidemic.

“Today being the last saturday of the month, people are expected to observe the monthly sanitation exercise by taking care of their surroundings, it is a nationwide exercise whereby each state adopts their own policy.

“Here in Oyo State, the exercise is between the hours of 6:00am and 9:00am and of course, there is restrictions of vehicular as human movement and anyone found on the road not on an essential service would be made to face the law as appropriate sanction would be given for disobeying the law of the land.

“This is to let the people know that nobody is above the law of the land and people should be made to be a respecter of the law of the land, those apprehended will serve as deterrent to others that might want to do same next time.”
Dr. Oyeleke however appealed to citizens to take the exercise as a matter of obligation in order to make the State safer and healthier for people to live in and for smooth conduct of their commercial activities.

In the same vein, the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry, Dr. Bashir Olanrewaju, stressed that a lot of residents were found, disregarding the exercise despite the effort of the state government to sensitize the public using all forms of the media.

He however opined that people would get accustomed to the routine as time goes on, especially as the State is combining enforcement with sensitization and advocacy, which he said would have positive effect on the people.

“We have so many communicable diseases, Covid-19 is just one of them, Cholera, Lassa fever are still killing people, these things are caused by filthy environment, it will also lead to unemployment as no investor would want to invest his business in a filthy environment.”
In his remark, the Chairman, Oyo State Environmental Task Force, ACP Francis Ojomo stated that it is unfortunate that there could still be large number of people that were apprehended despite the publicity given for the preparation for the sanitation.

The Special Assistant to the Governor on Environment, Engr. Ademola Aderinto appealed to residents to adjust to the new sanitation system of the State and as well embrace the culture of clean and green environment.
