2027 Presidency: Akpabio Kickstarts Tinubu’s 2nd Term Bid Barely 11 Months In Office

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has begun drumming support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election barely months into the president’s first term.

Addressing a gathering of state governors and federal lawmakers that paid Sallah homage to Tinubu at his residence in Lagos on Friday, Akpabio expressed confidence in the president’s leadership, going as far as praying for Tinubu’s victory in the 2027 general elections.

“As you coast home to victory for a second term, may all the governors seated here also coast home to a second term victory in their states,” Akpabio proclaimed, setting the tone for an early push for Tinubu’s re-election bid.

Barely 11 months into Tinubu’s first term, Akpabio appears to be eager to secure Tinubu’s political future despite the administration having not marked its first anniversary.

Akpabio spoke at the Sallah homage that brought together 27 state governors, the leadership of the National Assembly, and some former governors.

“Let us unite, rally around our leader, and catapult this nation to a greater pedestal,” said Shettima, speaking on behalf of the president.

“By December, I hope we will have cause to celebrate. Let us coalesce to take the nation to a greater pedestal.”

Shettima expressed confidence in Nigeria’s economic resurgence, noting that the gathering of 27 governors in Lagos, along with the legislative leadership, was a testament to Tinubu’s unifying leadership that transcends ethnic and religious lines.

“The future of the black man rests on Nigeria to make or mar. Our economy has turned the corner. By the coming months, the economy will roar back to glory,” Shettima declared.

Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who also chairs the Nigeria Governors Forum, praised the President’s efforts in stabilizing the economy and improving living conditions.

“We commend your efforts because the ship is gradually turning. We have seen how the exchange rate of the naira against the dollar is coming down. The cost of food is coming down. The dry season harvest is commencing soon. Things are getting better, and there is light at the end of the tunnel,” the Governor said.

He urged President Tinubu to persevere in his efforts towards achieving economic stability.

AbdulRazaq expressed gratitude for the support provided by the Federal Government to states, particularly in distributing grains to alleviate food shortages.

”We are here to support you, and we also thank you for the support that you are giving to the sub-nationals. Trucks are wheeling up across the nation, distributing grains. I have received, and most of the states have.

”Because of what you are doing, those who are hoarding food items are releasing them, and that is why the prices of food are coming down,” he said.

April 12 Town Hall: Our Deepest Gratitude To Critical Stakeholders; Traditional Rulers, Community Organizers Within And Around Lagelu West ~ Hon. Mudashiru Kamorudeen

It’s been a most fulfilling day, both politically and socially. We joined His Royal Highness, the Ololorunda of Olorunda-Aba, Oba wa, Samuel Oludele Abiodun Folarin, JP in a well appointed town hall meeting with Traditional Rulers, Market leaders, Women Farmers, and members of Olorunda Development Association (ODA).

It was all part of our engagement with critical stakeholders and organizers in the local communities.

At the core of our engagement, we offered thoughts about how we can reframe our debate on the delivery of governance in reaffirming our commitment to democratic values through a close and constant engagement with communities, in our own local clime. This is all that the April 12th Town Hall meeting was about. It was an affirmation of our shared, unyielding belief that Yes Together We Can!

Our most sincerest appreciation to the Ololorunda of Olorunda-Aba, Oba wa, Samuel Oludele Folarin, JP, the entire traditional rulers within and around Lagelu West, the Agba-Akin of Olorunda, Oloye Benedict Akika, members of Olorunda Development Association (ODA), the Women Farmers Association, and market leaders— for playing host to us, and for gathering together an equally impressive group of thinkers and community organizers for discourse on important factors that can help bring confidence in our government and in our local democracy, and that’s the widespread sense of community engagement, by which, we believed, the people can be an important part of their own government.

It’s truly remarkable to reflect on the historic significance of the town hall, today- and the sense of hope it instilled. Thank you all for sharing your thoughts and experiences.

I’m Disappointed That Obasanjo, Jonathan Are Watching PDP Bleed – Sowunmi

A Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Segun Sowunmi, says he is disappointed that some of the founding fathers of the party are watching on while the party bleeds.

Sowunmi, who was a guest on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme on Tuesday, said he expects former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan to have stepped in and resolved the protracted conflict that has plagued the party before the 2023 elections.

Recently, certain members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) within the House of Representatives have demanded the resignation of the party’s National Chairman, Umar Damagum, alleging his allegiance to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Spearheaded by Ikenga UgoChinyere and comprising around “60 lawmakers,” they questioned the party leadership’s silence on the political developments in Rivers State, particularly criticizing their inaction while President Bola Tinubu intervened.

Sowunmi attributed the agitation for Damagum’s resignation and other internal discord within the party leadership to what he referred to as the “Wike problem.”

The ex-Ogun PDP governorship aspirant lamented that the PDP had previously dealt with the challenges posed by the then Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, before the last general elections, yet similar issues persist even a year after the polls.

Expressing regret, the PDP stalwart noted that the internal conflicts within the party have endured beyond the 2023 presidential election.

Sowunmi emphasized that it’s crucial for the founding fathers of the party to intervene and facilitate reconciliation among conflicting party members to strengthen and solidify the achievements of the party.

“A 25-year-old institution is supposed to be one of the legacies that one of the most populous black nations will tell the world that we can also run this thing,” he said.

“I’m disappointed that the founding fathers, the Jonathans of this world, the Obasanjos of this world and co, I am disappointed that they are looking at the platform that gave them the opportunity to lead, I am disappointed that they are looking it bleed.”

Makinde Condemns Assault On OYRTMA Officers By Immigration Personnel

Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde has condemned, in its totality, the alleged assault on the officers of the Oyo State Road Transport Management Agency, OYRTMA, who were arrested and detained for apprehending an immigration personnel who violated traffic rules.

The Governor expressed this, during his courtesy visits to the victims, Mr Nurudeen Abiola, resident at Binukonu Olunloyo Area and Mr Taiwo Adeagbo, resident at Oke-‘Badan area as well as the Nigeria Immigration Service, Oyo State Command on Monday.

Governor Makinde described the incident as an unfortunate one that should never have happened, noting that Oyo State wants to be known for upholding the rule of law and everyone must obey traffic rules, irrespective of their status.

He assured the victims that his government would take necessary action and bring the culprits to book.

“The fact that you work for a federal agency does not mean you are superior. So, I have asked the Honourable Attorney-General to ensure we follow this through.

“We will write to the Immigration authorities and prosecute the people involved, as this is not acceptable in Oyo State,” he added.

Also speaking at the office of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Agodi Gate, Ibadan, where he was received by Comptroller Abdulrasheed Ademola, Governor Makinde advocated a better intra and inter-agency cooperation among security agencies in the state.

He equally declared that there must not be a recurrence of such incident, saying: “Oyo State is known for inter- and intra-agency cooperation. So, the incident is very unfortunate.

“I have asked the State’s Comptroller of Immigration that they should cooperate with us. Yes, they said this thing happened at the zonal level. There is an ACG in charge of the zone, who we plan to reach out to.

“I have been assured by the Nigerian Immigration Service, Oyo State Command, and also the zone, that they will cooperate with us to get to the bottom of this matter and ensure that this does not happen again.”

DNA: ‘If My Wife Cheat On Me, Gets Pregnant, I Will Accept The Child’ – Nollywood Actor, Baba Tee

Nollywood actor cum comedian, Babatunde Bernard Tayo, better known as Baba Tee, has expressed different opinions on the DNA test controversy rocking social media.

reports that for some weeks now, Nigerians have been divided over the need for couples to take DNA tests for their children, given recent cases of paternity fraud.

Speaking in a recent interview with TVC, Baba Tee said women should learn to walk out of a marriage they aren’t comfortable with instead of using domestic violence or infidelity as an excuse for paternity fraud.

The movie star noted there is a high rate of paternity fraud in the country due to several issues, including upbringing and lack of sexual satisfaction.

He, however, said he can accept a child that isn’t his if his partner is remorseful for cheating.

He said: “Women can’t use domestic violence or infidelity on the part of their spouses as an excuse for paternity fraud. If a man is not treating you well, walk out of the marriage.

“When it comes to paternity fraud, the woman is always at fault. You can’t shift the blame to the man because men don’t conceive. As a woman, if you know you can’t tolerate your husband’s maltreatment or infidelity, leave the marriage.

Personally, there is nothing I can’t keep for a woman who is good to me. If a woman cheats on me and a child comes out of it and I find out, I will forgive her if she is remorseful. I will take the child as my own.”
