Butcher To Be Arraigned For Stabbing Okada Rider Over Alleged Affairs With Wife

Oduduwa News reports that the Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps has arrested a butcher and farmer, Ibrahim Ogunrinde, for stealing a motorcycle after stabbing the rider.

This was disclosed in a press release issued on Friday by Soji Ganzallo of the office of the state commander of the corps through its spokesperson, Moruf Yusuf.

According to Mr Yusuf, the 46-year-old suspect and resident of Adu Town, Ajebo Road, Mile 6, Abeokuta, was nabbed at Ijaye Garage, Abeokuta, on Thursday, June 6, 2024, at about 2:40 p.m.

He said the suspect “pretended to be a passenger and asked the victim, Kosu Daniel (aka “Jeje”), to take him to Olubo Town on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at noon.”

Mr Yusuf said Mr Ogunrinde allegedly stabbed Mr Daniel in the neck and arm, after which he escaped with the rider’s motorcycle.

“The suspect confessed that he was motivated by a desire to eliminate the victim, who he believed had an affair with his wife two months prior.

“He believed he had succeeded in killing the victim, not knowing that Kosu Daniel was rushed to the hospital and is currently receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta.

“The suspect and the recovered motorbike have been transferred to the Nigeria Police Force, SWAT, Magbon, for further investigation and likely prosecution,” he added.

Commending officers for arresting the suspect, Mr Yusuf stated that it would serve as a deterrent to other criminals in society.

Olubadan Stool: Ibadan Begs Makinde to Temper Law with Culture and Tradition – Maroof Asudemade

At the final funeral ceremony of the late Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Senator Lekan Balogun, Allí-Okunmade II, Governor Seyi Makinde, who was the chief host, while making his speech, was quoted to have said that the Olubadan-designate, Oba Owolabi Olakuleyin Akinloyè, would be coronated when he is strong enough. Governor Makinde made the statement against the now public knowledge that Oba Owolabi Olakuleyin is coping with some ailment that affects his strength. Since yesterday that Governor Makinde was said to have made the statement, mostly negative reactions have trailed the Governor’s pronouncement. Some concerned Ibadan natives have been calling on Governor Makinde to rescind his decision and allow Oba Owolabi Olakuleyin to be coronated as soon as possible. Some other people reacting saw Governor Makinde’s action in delaying the coronation of the new Olubadan as an attempt to desecrate Olúbàdàn stool. Someone even wrote to say that Governor Makinde was attempting to put Ibadan on a warpath.

However, this writer seeks to put the issue in a correct perspective. Governor Seyi Makinde did not err by his statement that Oba Owolabi Olakuleyin would only be coronated when he is strong. A section of Oyo Chiefs Law states unequivocally that the reigning Governor’s approval is needed before any Olubadan can be coronated. After having sent the name of the next person to ascend Olubadan throne to the Governor for approval, certain conditions are stipulated that the person ascending the throne must meet before the approval is given. Parts of the conditions include: that the Olubadan-designate must not have criminal records or be an ex-convict; that he must be HALE and HEARTY; must not be incapacitated, to mention a few of the conditions. Without sentiments, Governor Makinde appears to have hinged his pronouncement to delay the coronation on the conditions of Hale and Hearty and a perceived partial incapacitation of the Olubadan-designate. By this pronouncement, Governor Makinde has only acted true to what the Oyo Chiefs Law says, a law he wasn’t a party to when constitued, apart from the little amendment made to the law a few months ago by the State Assembly and assented to by Governor Makinde.

That said, this writer appeals to Governor Seyi Makinde, himself a Yoruba man, who understands the place of culture and tradition in resolving knotty issues in Yorubaland, to reconsider his stance and ensure that a befitting coronation of Oba Owolabi Olakuleyin as the new Olubadan of Ibadanland is quickly done so that Ibadan can move forward from the stalemate occasioned by the death of Oba Lekan Balogun in March this year.

There were precedents in Ibadan where the coronation of new Olubadan is concerned. From the late Oba Yesufu Oloyede Aṣanike, to late Oba Emmanuel Adegboyega Adeyemo, to late Oba Yinusa Ogundipe Arapasowu, to late Oba Odulana Odugade, to late Oba Saliu Adetunji, to the recently late Oba Lekan Balogun, there were issues of health challenges that they all had before ascending Olubadan throne. But without paying lip service to the provisions of Oyo Chiefs Law, culture and tradition were considered in each instance of the times the late Olubadans were enthroned. Almost all of the late Olubadans mentioned earlier spent an average of tens years or a little less on the throne despite the glaring health challenges they had. This writer has written in the past, in the thick of the recent Ibadan chieftancy imbroglio, how the late Olubadans battled various ailments before they were coronated.

Ibadan has been without its revered king since the last three months or thereabouts. Ibadan has missed the guidance, the wisdom and the directives of its Olubadan. With vacancy in Olubadan palace, Ibadan feels culturally and traditionally naked. These reasons and more are why Governor Makinde has to revisit the issue and approve a speedy coronation of Oba Owolabi Olakuleyin Akinloyè as the new Olubadan of Ibadanland.

Viral Video: EFCC Denies Brutalizing Two Ladies During Akure Sting Operation

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has denied brutalizing two ladies during its recent operation in Akure.

The statement of denial was contained in a press release made available today by the Commission via its official Twitter handle as read in part:

“Arising from the misinformation and distortion of facts about the arrest of 127 suspected internet fraudsters by operatives of the Ibadan Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Saturday, June 8, 2024, it becomes imperative to clearly present the true facts of the operation.

“The Operatives executed a classical sting operation at two Clubs simultaneously in Akure based on credible intelligence, leading to the arrest of the suspected fraudsters. The operation, in line with the established ground norm for such engagement, was devoid of any incident as the Operatives conducted themselves professionally.

“It was therefore shocking to be confronted with narratives particularly from the social media about brutalisation, including a trending video of two ladies showing bodies lacerated by whips. The Commission wants the public to discountenance this video as it may have been stage managed to achieve motives that are unclear. The Commission will subject this video to forensic analysis to establish its falsehood and prepare a case against purveyors of this distasteful stunt.

“The Commission wishes to state that no suspect was assaulted, brutalised or subjected to any dehumanising treatment during the Saturday operation. It is also false that tear gas was fired at the crime scene. Those familiar with the Commission’s operations know that EFCC personnel do not use tear gas during sting operation. The officers that carried out the arrests neither came to the scene of crime with canister of tear gas nor whips, to inflict bodily injuries on suspects.

“It is also important to state that no damage was done to the CCTV facility at the scene of the arrest. The device was removed by a staff of the Club at the instance of operatives of the Commission to preserve the footages for further analysis of the role of each of the arrested suspects in the alleged crime. Specifically, one of the arrested suspects, the manager of the Club, who confessed to the crime and directed the removal of the CCTV device for further investigative works by the Commission, is in the custody of the EFCC with the CCTV. He is assisting in the investigation of the crime.

“It is needful to state, for the umpteenth time, that the Standard Operating Procedure of the EFCC foreclose the use of brute force or unprofessional conduct in the course of any operation. The EFCC is a civilized law enforcement agency with optimal respect for human dignity and the rule of law.

“Meanwhile, profiling of suspects arrested at the scene of the crime has been completed. They will be prosecuted accordingly”.
